And huge respect to EaH, without whose efforts we never would have had a list

(And yes, I am one of those sad people who finds things like temperature sensors in cars really interesting. Nerd.)

Laughalot I had to have my LOs hips checked as well and he is absolutely fine, I'm sure yours will be too! It seems to be a very common thing for them to check these days.

I was up at 5:30 this morning too Rgee! Not by choice I have to say. After a brilliant night last night freddie obvuously decided he couldn't let me off that easily and has been very restless and whingy and not sleeping since about 4 this morning!!

Just been reading the Baby Whisperer, finding it quite interesting so far. I think i should have read it 3 months ago, but I guess beter late than never! Only problem now is she suggests a 3 hour routine and I've just been working on getting freddie to go 3.5-4 hours bewteen feeds, so don't really want to go back to feeding every 3...

laughalot, my friend's baby had clicky hip, it's quite common and she is now toddling around quite the thing with no problems. Can't believev your gp didn't give you any more info tho .

muckypup, I had a very similar night to you and was up about 5 times through the night. I thought we'd cracked it the night before when he slept for 5 hours, bu guess this must be the 6 week growth spurt starting. Hopefully it won't go on for too long!!

Thanks, muckypup, I've just been to the docs and he says it will take a long time to clear without anitibiotics if I haven't got a breast pump to drain them, but I'd still prefer to avoid if possible. I have a cabbage so will try the bath/compress/cabbage thing and see if it helps, at least I have the tablets if it worsens as it's the weekend now..

I haven't heard of the baby whisperer, shimmer, how does she recommend getting a baby to go three hours when they like to be fed 2-3, or even 1-2 some days! thinking of sore side again..

trixymalixy · 09/03/2007 11:46

shimmer, I kind of follow the baby whisperer EASY routine. I don't follow it particularly strictly as it says somewhere that until babies are 4 months they will vary from the 3 hour routine quit a lot. At 4 months they then move onto a four hour routine so guess there must be a gradual transition?

Carrotcake, I think Lizz used phytollaca when she had mastitis for the second time and recommended it.

trixymalixy · 09/03/2007 11:49

Carrotcake, can you not express by hand if you don't have a breast pump? Some people seem to think it's better than using a pump.

Report
carrotcake · 09/03/2007 12:03

I've never been able to get much out by hand, or even that much with a pump to be honest, I tried expressing with dd but it was very laborious. I'm going to run a bath and have a go though, thanks.

there is one near the school actually, will try and pop in there later. Standing in the playground is the last thing I feel like at the moment.

Where's Lizz and LTH? They've not been on for a while...

Report
Galmum · 09/03/2007 13:32

Maybe LOs are keeping them busy - it amazes me that LTH finds anytime for anything with 4 boys to look after!

Meant to say Dragonhart & Laughalot - good luck with the check ups - everyone tends to err on the side of caution with little people (as they should) so it's much more likely that everything's ok - try not to worry too much.

Hope the mastitis improves soon Carrotcake.

I'm of talk about 3 and 4 hour routines. My lo is a treasure in the night and is in bed from 7pm - 8am with a 2.30 ish and 5.30 ish feed, but during the day she is so unpredictable. It's been every 1 1/2 - 2 hours today, and she's a bit grumpy. Serves me right for scaring her by hoovering this morning (I'm ashamed to say it's the first time the hoover has been out this year . And we have two hairy cats]

I've been roughly following the baby whisperer but I was only managing 2 hours as he needed to feed on the dot like an alarm but recently he stretched some of the cycles e.g. the lunchtime one to 3. In the evening I break the routine as I try to get him to eat as much as possible before bedtime and of course at night I skip the Activity bit as I want him to go straight back to sleep.

The best advice in the book is about getting them to bed as soon as they are tired. I found that if I let DS get very tired he found it impossible to get to sleep and cried all the time. Now if I put him in his basket as soon as he looks a bit sleepy he goes off to sleep much more easily at nap times.

But when he's been having a growth spurt I've sometimes had to feed him twice before he'll sleep so it doesn't always work with a brestfed baby.

Hi everyone hope you are all well, I feel better today as I googled the hips thing and got a few answers and so long as its picked up early enough it can all be treated. Well I am very lucky at night usually lauren goes to bed about 9 pm and wakes once for a feed in the night and she usually then wakes again between 6am and 7am, the only thing is she will not settle on her own I have to cuddle her untill she goes to sleep the hv dident seem to keen on that idea is anyone else the same ? I am going to start the hungry baby milk tonight in the bottle before bed so we shall see if that has any effects. Where is eah and lth they havent posted for a bit. I think my children dont get the effects of calpol lauren was no different to normal last night even though she had calpol my ds used to be the same I think iv got hard children

muckypup, my DS is the same, goes 2-3 hours ish.

laughalot,I've bee trying the baby whisperer shush pat method of trying to get DS back to sleep. Except I pat his shoulder while he islying on his back. He always wriggles around for a bit and then calms down and then his eyes close.

Gives me a sore throat shushung for so long tho.

I'm here - been to the pub for a quick pint! Just got home and realised my Tommie Tipee nappy bin thing liner has run out. Cannot be bothered to go out again today! I am a scummy mummy...with a wiffy poo bin!

Pub...pint... I am soo . Unfortunately I've developed a mild reaction to alcohol - face goes bright red etc. It does go (had it after my son was born) but I have to work on it and build up gradually!!

My LO only settles when cuddled the majority of the time - I have the Baby Wisperer but not read it much...will dig it out and read the sleep section. I'm not that bothered as LO is doing so well at nightbut maybe I should start to encourage her to settle herself more.

Has anyone moved LO to own room??.....DD has done 3 nights in there and seems to like it. It's right next to our room so I don't need a monitor. She's also outgrown her Moses basket , which is so pretty and we have a sheepskin in it....she's 12lbs 11oz at 8 weeks and she's really long..must measure her soon. Have put a sheepskin in her cot to make it comfy and cosy as well. Maybe that's the secret to her good sleeping???

Galmum - I've always had the red face thing with alcohol. Apparently its an allergic reaction. Whatever! I get it on my neck & chest thing too.
I've not moved LO to nursery yet....DP is still in there, he has been banned due to excessive snoring!

Galmum - I moved Jacob into his own room at about 4 weeks and he settled so much better than in our room. Do have a monitor though, even though it is next to our bedroom, just makes me feel more secure

Lizz - very that you have been to the pub for a pint. Mind you, I had a Southern Comfort last night (such a devil!).

I live opposite about 4 pubs.
Its easy to pop across to a beer garden - & cheaper than starbucks! Plus, I have made flapjack, done the laundry, washed the kitchen floor, and am doing the ironing now.
Now wonder I'm a bit tiered! x

at getting out to the pub!!

DS has definitely got a growth spurt going on. Have been on an hourly feeding cycle today, so haven't managed to move off the couch at all today.

Have also nearly polished off a whole tub of IKEA ginger biscuits .

evening all!
well today went from bad to worse - don't know what was up with Zac today but he has been whingeing on and off all day! he didn't have a nap at all except for half an hour on his tummy under the baby gym! went to the baby cafe this morning and he pretty much grizzled all the way through it, although i found the baby massage tips interesting! one of the helpers there gave me a baby wrap, which is nice, so i had him in that for an hour or so which seemed to settle him a bit. he's been very windy, so perhaps that was the matter!

Trixy - yesterday i ate 2 mini egg cakes, felt slightly sick after that. i used to love ginger biscuits but went slightly mad on them when i was pg and haven't really had them since. same with chocolate bourbons!!

wilkie thanks for my creme egg first one this year yummy!!

Had Hattie weighed yesterday 10lb11oz at 9 weeks so shes saller than ellie but really seems to have filled out in the last week as shes finally grown into her knees (family joke as she has loads of spare skin on her knees and no fat!)

Went to ikea today was going to take ellie as mum was having hattie for a few hours but when I dropped hattie off mum said she might as well have them both and I could go shopping as well. Went to lakeside ikea and then into lakeside got my outfit for hatties christening but felt very bizarre not to have at least one child with me!

My next door neighbour was 10 days overdue today and text me at lunchtime to say she was contracting (her lo was coming to ours for tea as she is a similar age to ellie but obviously we cancelled that. dh forgot his door keys and didnt realise till he was home from work and I was at my mums so he knocked on their door to get the spare key at 5.30pm and she was walking about and coping quite well but she asked to borrow ellies ready bed as her dd who's 3 was going to her mums (she had home births for her 1st dd and was having another one for this one) anyway i got home at 6.15 and heard her yelling (bedroom window was open) so thought it must be close and after getting dd's in went back outside to get shopping in from car when her dh came out in tears saying its another girl (we knew that as they'd found out) but what really impressed me was as he wa telling me she text me from upstairs!!! all went really well started contracting around 12 and had her 6 and a quarter hours later so welcome to chloe louise who can be hatties new friend as both of their big sisters get on so well aaargh its made me broody help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am the same as you eah me and dh decided no more children after lauren was born we are very lucky one of each however even if I had another boy it would have stopped at 2 and when lauren was crying the first week and you are up every hour I was happy to think never again but now I am very sad at the thought of not having another baby or being pg again. I always remember when I first had aidan and I was saving all of his clothes I knew I wanted another so it dident feel to bad but now im sorting laurens and im thinking there is no point in me saving them because there wont be anymore . I am actually very happy with 2 I always just wanted 2 and they are the love of my life I am just a little sad I will never do it again.

Wilkie southern comfort my favourite if I ever come to lincoln with work I shall pop over and have a glass with you the travel agents I work for have a branch your neck of the woods.

UD - sorry you had another bad day. Hope that means you're in for a good night.

Lizz - I'm you live opposite not one, but four pubs!

Wilkie / Galmum - did you have any trouble moving lo to their own room? I'm aiming to do that at the end of next week. Did you put their moses basket in the cot first, or just straight in to the cot?

Laughalot - it must be sad packing everything up. Dh has said he doesn't want any more, but that was during the hellish first 4 weeks, so he may change his mind. I never expected to love the lo so much, dh laughs that I always look through her photos (a ridiculous number of them) once I've put her to bed!

Jodie - have you caught up with all the messages yet? We're past 100 on this thread already!
