2nded - flease liners to keep skin dry & microfibre dish cloth booster to hold much wee( 4 for £1 from pound land). extra rinse very 2 or 3 washes and only using half the recomened ammount of soap powder ( we have VERY soft water down here so I do that for all washes not just nappies).
Bumble and bumble (terry) booster is good for 3 or 4 hours , unboosted only 1-2 hours. MEOS with microfibre booster 3 hours ish. Night time I use little lamb or nappy nation unboosted OR bumble and bumble booster, but now hes sleeping through they hold just fine. We are using ME large wraps, the mediums were not quite big enough and terry was peeping out the legs if he wriggled to much.
I hate the smell of pampers when full of wee, not keen on huggies smell either, but have been gifted a load of huggies from SiL as her kids have out grown them and she bulk bought. tend to use nature baby when I buy dizzys, but am crap at putting dizzys on, never seem to get teh tension right.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to post info for me.
Am v surprised bout Wilkos and Poundland-they actually sell proper boosters? Or do you buy cloth from them that you fold/adapt and use as boosters???? Sorry, but confused as never seen any nappy related stuff in any wilkos stores, other than the usual pampers disposables etc.

So I'm looking for microfibre/hemp boosters and fleece liners? We use biodegradable liners to catch number twos but I don't like to flush them (something else that the sewage works will have to fish out later) so we put in bin. We do have some fleece liners but only used them briefly-never really liked cleaning them up so use biodeg ones instead (that's the short cut that we made as a concession with washables!)

Does the fleece fabric help to wick away the wee?

It's nice to have some peole who can advise me on all of this. Only wish I'd spoken to you all sooner (before we started using disp's alot more).

We use Bamboozels (tos bots)washables;size 2 nippas-bought them to use birth to potty (folded top over to make size smaller when DS was little). They fit him ok but wraps are a bit on the snug side(tots bots size 2). They cover the nappy but you have to be careful to get it on just right so that no nappy is exposed, around leg mainly. I'm not saying that his clothes necessarily get wet after 2 hours, just that after two hours the nappy itself is soaked and so he obviously needs changing by then. Reckon the boosters must be inefficient, having read your posts. I will get some microfibre/hemp boosters and use the fleece liners I have and see if it helps. I must say that we have and do stray onto nature babies a fair bit, but that's cos 2hourly changes are very demanding-I never imagined I could get 3/4 hours out of a washable!!! That would be HEAVEN! I would certainly only use disp's in dire emergencies if I can extend the wear that much. Wow!

How much do your little ones drink? Wondering if that's a cause? DS has suffered badly with constipation and was on lactulose for ages-which makes you take in more fluids. He loves his drinks but I wonder if I am pushing too much fluid down him cos I am used to him drinking lots with lactulose? He only just accepted a beaker/cup and still uses bottle. I'd say he has 3 full bottles of water a day (10oz ish per bottle) plus 2 or 3 6oz bottles formula (he refused bf once my periods returned ) Just wondering what is a normal fluid intake and how am I supposed to know if I've got it right?
Right, off now. Getting late. Hope nobody minds my huge posts.
Oh, M for M- Are you taking partners or going with just children? Would like to come but don't see much of DH during the week.....

Astrophe · 05/05/2007 08:28

Fleece liners - just buy a metre of fleec from a fabric shop and cut to size.
Microfibre cloths - they are cleaning cloths but you just fold them for boosters.
Hemp Fleece - just buy a metre and shrink (wash) then cut to size.

We get about 3-4 hours from our washables, which are 6 layers of either hemp or microfibre (we use Weenees - sort of like a pre-fold/stuffables. Sometimes we get a surprise and get leakage after 1 1/2 hours, I think because he has a drinking binge!

DSs has 3 BFs a day, plus maybe a cup of water and a cup of cows milk? I don't really keep track of it TBH!

MfM - I am not bringing DH as he will be away for the day, but otherwise I would have!

Sorry for the non-chatty email, I need to get the kids their breaky!

laundrylover · 05/05/2007 10:38

Smiley, I think that your DS drinks a lot of water so no wonder his nappies are sopping wet!!! Kiah bfing on demand when with me plus bedtime and 6am (on a good night!). Other than that she has a drinker cuo of freash juice/water mix or just water a couple of times a day. She probably only drinks about half a cup, more when it's hot and I do notice her nappies are wetter. I use 2 or three prefolds a day and a boosted bamboo at night which will go hrough brekkie if just wee in it.

I think you need cheap cleaning cloth boosters as Astro/Uni say and the next size wraps. Also totsbots are not the best wraps as I find they 'crack'in the wash. I use Motherease which have leg inserts and I never get leaks. I have a couple of Wacky wraps which I use at noght but really they should be on show 'cos they're lovely.

Kids screaming and I'm meant to be working so will go and give DP a hand. Catch up later.

SmileyC · 05/05/2007 15:09

Thanks ladies. Off to town so will look for the cloths! Gotta go-in a rush!

UniSarah · 06/05/2007 19:58

Happy experimenting with your new nappy supplies Smiley. Flease wicks teh wee away from skin. I use bio flushable liners as well with some nappies as it makes pooh to loo easier ( bath room down stairs, boys room and change table upstairs. I wash ones that have just been weed in and the do OK for a 2nd use, experiment showed that after 2 washes they get holey tho. I have a bot of a thing about pooh going in loo NOT bin, IMO human excrement does not belong in landfill or being crushed and squidged in a refuse truck.

Loud congratulations my way please... I finished a 5km race yesterday in only 32 mins. HUrrah. I'm chuffed, I wanted to do it in under 35, thought I'd done 33/34 but the results are now on line and show I came 46th with 32.10. It was teh grest west 5k, part of teh great west run weekend. This morning I wasin teh middle of teh city helping with a water stataion for the half marathon, I had teh glam task of colecting up used plastic cups just after teh water station . It was quite fun to be involved and our club got lots of shouts from the comentators.

laundrylover · 07/05/2007 10:42

Uni, well done on the race - great time there. Keep it up!

Well, we've had a disater at chez Laundry. My laptop went wrong and in trying to fix it DP wiped the hard drive. He is mortified and for the first time in 13 years he shed a tear. Due to our crap record in backing up we've lost all the digital pics of the girls, all my work (inc the bid that I was doing, so have to start again), our accounts and stuff like the write ups of my births etc. I do have some old stuff backed up somewhere but the photos were always too big to fit on. Luckily I will be able to retreive all the ones we've ever emailled and even if they are low res, they are better than nothing. We went out and bought a new pc yesterday which I am on now and the laptop is sitting sulking in the corner. Anyway I've got to start downloading documents again and filling in that bloody bid from scratch so better get on.

Def up for the Mile for Maude so could Friz or Astro send me details of when and where we are meeting please? You have my email methinks.

Astrophe · 07/05/2007 12:55

Oh no LL! The photos...oh no

Friz knows the MfM times - I'm not sure. Is it 11am or thereabouts?

laundrylover · 07/05/2007 13:02

I know Astro, I've got myself into a real mess here. I can't use the new versions of excel etc on the Office that we've installed. Just sitting crying instead of doing any constructive work. Everything is taking ages, like even opening files when it's all new.
DP did save 100 pics a while back for printing which will be the best ones and also (thank God!) he'd sent my bro his wedding pics on a disc too.

You know it's a hard way to learn about backing up often - going to order an external hard drive to do it from now on but of course we have nothing to back up yet!

I'm going to have to ask my clients to send me copies of my invoices back or it'll be interesting doing the tax return.

Astrophe · 07/05/2007 13:09

Oh dear. I would cry too. Poor you

Must get off here really - taking the DCs out for the arvo, despite the rain. Was just popping on hoping for news of poor madeleine

Well Friz, let us know a place/time

laundrylover · 07/05/2007 13:14

Yes, it's awful about the little girl. It does put it all into perspective really. Is there no more news?

Have a nice afti and don't get too wet.

Astrophe · 07/05/2007 13:15

no more news

Thanks, we will be wearing all our waterproofs, going to Wollaton Park in Notts.

Chat later

SmileyC · 07/05/2007 15:12

Hi
Just popped on to say hello in a break from my bathroom tiling.
Sad about that little girl. My neighbour's sister has just gone over there for a hol and is staying in same block of apartments. That would not be very nice for her.

Uni-Well done re race. That's fab. You ought to be v proud. DH did Gt N run last year and this year is doing Gt N and S! He has been suffering on/off with shin splints since last year's run. Any advice to help?

LL- OMG. Poor you re laptop/pics. It's so easily done though. Our PC is a few years old and has almost been filled completely with our dig pics. We just got an external hd a few weeks ago, but we now have no room left on pc, so any pics that now go onto external are originals rather than backups. We need to get external DVD writer to make backups of all pics/videos cos they can hold more than a CD. I hope you can retrieve alot.

Better go get on.
Still not sure about MfM. Is abyone else taking their DH? Want to spend time with him this w/e (we have had little family time with the 3 of us lately)but also would like to meet/do MfM.
Right......TILING!

laundrylover · 07/05/2007 16:17

Tiling sounds very positive Smiley!

Just asked DP if he was coming on Saturday but think he is going to have a day doing housey stuff which I can only encourage. Why don't you come along and bring DH anyway? We won't bite.

Well, we've bought some software online that is currently scanning the laptop and finding lots of jpeg files....can't tell what state they are in yet though as it's a very slow process. I'm really hoping that my bid will be in there as I'm not gettig very far with starting it again.

Smiley - get a DVD burner and get backing up or buy some more memory and then you can use your external HD as back up. Listen to me with the benefit of hindsight as I can you exactly how you would feel if you lost it all!

Frizbe · 08/05/2007 17:09

Hello, I'm back, been away working for the weekend again, ya know how it goes
just on quick for now, I'll get on proper computer and post upstairs in a bit, and will link you all to the maude thread which has all the update info on it!! hurrah!
Its fine to donate direct LL, not a prob at all. I have both dd's being jabbed on Sat afternoon, so won't be sticking around much after 2pm so's you know. It starts at 11am, so 3 hours of me should do you all anyway
Closet LL, I didn't realise I was closet its not my fault I had the cute baby for the real nappy week photos or come to think of it the only baby there!!

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2007 17:12

I'm here... dunno why!! FRIZBE??

I am guessing something nappy related

laundrylover · 08/05/2007 17:39

Hi Flame nice of you to drop by! Did Friz grass us up for going all nappy talk while she was away??? You should post a link to your site for SmileyC and her wee, wee machine!

BTW I was looking at your website yesterday (work avoidance) and it's looking good. My friend is due in Nov so I'll get working on her....leave the bamboo nappies out when they come for dinner etc.....

Well, we're managing to save lots of photos from the laptop with some software that we bought online, but none of my work. It's sooo slow, has been running all night and day.

Friz, welcome back woman. I only think of you as a closet user as you are a bit of a greenie really. Reckon you'd enjoy hanging nappies out!

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2007 17:55

Be rude not to

Will scroll to see what smiley is actually saying

Thank you LL - its hard work but it is gradually all coming together. I'll have to send you a teeny newborn swaddlebees - it is enough to melt any pregnant woman's heart

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2007 18:01

Right - have read all.

Agree that more boostering sounds needed (assuming you aren't using any softner with your nappy wash Smiley). Either the microfibre cloths folded in 3, or bamboo boosters - the bambineo ones have 3 layers of bamboo, which you can then fold in half to put in over his boy bits so it has 6 extra layers in a direct hit iysiwm.

Motherease airflows would probably help you to get a better fit with the wraps as they adjust with the waist and thighs seperately.

Its good having a nosey at a different PN thread

laundrylover · 08/05/2007 19:54

Don't send me any little nappies Flame, I'm broody enough as it is!!

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2007 20:06

I'm having that problem each time I see them!!!

Frizbe · 08/05/2007 21:25

Yay you found it ok, with that damn laptop missing the \ I wasn't sure you would!!
I am a bit of a greenie admittedly, but then I kinda did a lot of my degree in it, Human Geography don'tcha know I did a particularly nice project on sewage disposal
Astro I'm off to get that link for you now.

Frizbe · 08/05/2007 21:26

milederby

SmileyC · 08/05/2007 22:21

Hi ladies!
Thanks for the advice Flame. Do you run the site on the link? I don't use softener, just white wine vinegar to soften, though not convinced it does much I bought the microfibre cloths from Wilko (think I got the right things. Were £1.99 for 3 pack-green,pink and lavender colours I think???) Folded into 8ths. I have also eased off on the fluid intake for DS a bit cos sounds like he was drinking plenty. The microfibre just seemed to wick the wet through into nappy rather than absorb and hold the wee. The fleece was fab and wicked away and was nice and soft next to his bum. The nappy itself was nice and wet. So it's getting alot better but unsure about whether microfibre should wick or absorb?????

Anyway, enough about nappies for now....
Had a lovely day-met with some friends from another bg (Huddersfield/Wakefield/Barnsley) in the morning. DS had a great time and loved the ball pit. PM-went to neighbour's 1st b'day party. Got DS all dressed up all smart. He looked so adorable and had a lovely time there too. Was so tired by time he got to bed-bless!
Bathroom tiling is coming along-two widths and one length of bath left to tile. Did not get back to it the other day-DS woke as I was about to resume
Better go-want to cuddle up on sofa before bed.
If I come to MfM, it will be so last minute that I doubt I will have time to organise sponsorship, or not alot at any rate. Would that be ok? Sorry to be so dithery about it all. Think I will prob come in some form, whether alone or with DH.

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2007 22:47

Yup, the site is all me

The microfibre absorbs, but it does it in such a way that it doesn't feel very wet.
