Here we go girls - Amie, Kiwi, Dixia, Flannelettepyjamas, we can start comparing motherhood notes on this one and wait for the others to arrive one by one. Although I suspect the other thread will be our home until there's critical mass. To those of you still waiting to join the post-natal people - get a move on!!

Kitty - get some Lansinoh on your nips, it is superb stuff

LunarSea · 11/04/2007 17:10

Kitty - I second the Lansinoh - and also if you've got/can get them some Nipple shields. They're sold to use for actual feeding, but I just popped them on inside a bra in between feeds to stop any rubbing and let the air get to them a bit in between times.

kittyhas6 · 11/04/2007 18:05

Where do you get the lansinoh?

TheBlonde · 11/04/2007 18:12

Boots and Mothercare sell it
NCT online sales also I think
It's a tenner but well worth it imho

Piffle · 11/04/2007 19:20

I feel so lucky never to have suffered cracked nips, bf is enough of a thing to get through the first few weeks without all the agony or sore nips, thrush and mastitis, really feeling for you lasses and RESPECT that you keep going

Well Finn is doing good, 2 hrs feeding during the day - he is a heck of a size already, popping out of clothes, newborn nappies not looking too comfy round his podgy little thighs either!!! We're well into the next size up and beyond clothes wise...

He has been a little grumpy today between feeds so have been racing around with him in baby carrier and hoovering, which he seems to like... He pukes if he feeds more than 2 hrly but is a sucky baby... thumb sucker in the womb and confusion until he is coordinated enough to find his thumb means he likes to sit on my nork frequently, with such massive oversupply and fast let down poor little guy gets mighty pissed off with me! He refuses flatly a dummy (which is annoying as it worked for his sucky big sister until she found her thumb)

So much to HV's shock I sleep him on his tummy where he is always near his hands

Result = Very easy to settle to bed!!!! He goes down awake and gets himself off to sleep
Hooray!

only ever going maximum of 3 hrs at night, but joy he does not poo at night so nap changes are only every 2nd feed... 10 minutes feeding and I'm done so feeling QUITE lucky!

My issue "down below" with the erm ahh boils has gone!!! Still annoyed with how much I'm bleeding - 3 wks tomorrow and thought it had stopped only to reappear today

weight falling off me presume thats cos Finn is voracious feeder? Am supplemeting with Haagen Das in
order to keep up the calories

Right he's up must dash

Just added myself to the list here

I feel for you, Kitty - my nips are also already cracked and bleeding. the lansinoh is just about holding them in one piece, but it feels like i'm sticking needles into them when Oliver feeds. And don't mention the suture pain when I try to wee...I could go on and on...

On a positive note, I'm looking forward to mossie joining us here soon.

Runningal, have you tried leaning right forward or squatting when you wee?
I have always done that before when I've torn and have found that it stops the wee going back on to the tear.

The nipples are annoying but it will pass. I think my pelvis is in a state because I was made to push him out much faster than I wanted too. I must try and ask the midwive what was going on. She seemed in an awful hurry to get him out.

Still no news from Mossie?

sazzybee · 11/04/2007 20:53

Hello all

Sorry I went AWOL for a bit - my mum stayed with me for about 2 weeks after the birth and then kidnapped me. I've only just come home and managed to convince her I'm going to be fine. Well I hope so.

Been a real struggle though - ended up having to have a cs (shall I still put something on the announcements thread or have I missed the boat?), then my hip decided that not being pregnant was worse than being pg and I couldn't walk. Then I got one cracked nipple and a blocked duct on the other one AND an infection in my cs scar. That would have been okay but add those to a baby who is really windy, feeds for hours on end, doesn't sleep and can cry and cry and it's all been a bit fraught. Remarkably, with lots of cuddles and a last minute feed, he's gone to sleep - I've been trying for 3 hours though.

Elliot is gorgeous but I've been in tears I've been so tired. I've been trying to get him into a routine but with variable success.

Scanning this thread through quickly, I'm relieved to see that some of you are also having an occasionally rough time - makes me feel less rubbish. Sometimes I feel too bloody incompetent to be able to care for him on my own. I tried to bath him for the first time today and nearly drowned him which was utterly terrifying.

I'm hoping that being on my own will give me a bit more confidence. And that I manage not to kill him.

I'm so glad we're all out the other side though. Even though this is pretty bloody at times, it's lots better than being so vastly pregnant!

Love to you all xxx

Leoladyofleisure · 11/04/2007 21:06

Runninggirl - I missed your birth anouncement, so a belated congratulations!
Are you really a runner? Me too (although before pregnant with ds1 I got into triathlons), I can't wait to start running again but my body is currently in no fit state!

Jay, I skim read yesterday (so not sure how much this has been discussed) and really sympathise with you. It must be really tough coping with a just turned 1 year old and a demanding baby. I have loads of help with ds1, would completely crack up if I was alone wiht him and the dts for more than an hour or two at a time.
I don't have any suggestions to help with the wind problem, having difficulties myself, but I do think that a baby will bring up wind if they can (unless lying flat), and if it isn't going to come up no amount of patting and massaging will help. The wind problem should pass after 3 months, could it be something you are eating that is making it worse? People keep telling me that too much dairy can cause the baby problems, also the Swiss believe in fennel tea to help the baby (they give it to the baby and it has been suggested by midwife, hv, doctor...). We are also trying cranial osteopathy - I'll let you know if the results are good (ok, just seen you've tried it!).
As for the frequent feeding I have heard that the very small and very large babies tend to be frequent feeders. Hang in there, it can only get easier!

Piffle, I always found that ds1 settled to sleep better on his front and slept him like that during the day, I also sometimes sleep Toby on his front during the day as he tends to sleep with his head on the same side and his head is going a bit flat there.

As for weight, when I came out of hospital I was almost my pre-preg weight, now despite bfeeding 2 babies I am gaining weight!!!! Can you imagine how much chocolate I am eating !

Lots of love to everyone else... one day I will manage to keep up with you all

sazzybee · 11/04/2007 21:24

Re wind - infacol has been a godsend to me (although a bit pricey). Also I found something recommended on here I call the rotating baby - do a search - basically it's sort of swivelling him around on your lap.

The bf counsellor I saw today about my cracked nipple also recommended fennel tea leo and said I should avoid carbonated drinks. And I do drink a lot of decaff diet coke

muppethasakitten · 11/04/2007 21:32

Welcome back Sazzy... was asking where you were the other day

Yes, we've all had our fair share of concerns I reckon... mine today has been that Samuel was awake for 13 hours straight - with maybe 15 - 30 mins of sleep in total - and seemed to want to constantly feed! I really feel now that the bar has run dry! He's finally asleep so hope they can re-charge for a couple of hours! He truly is a greedy gannet!

How is Elliot getting on with his tongue-tie... did you come to any decisions?

Leo - we're doing the cranial osteopathy too! We had the first session yesterday and now I'm concerned it's turned him into the incredible non-sleeping baby!

foxcub · 11/04/2007 21:43

hiya - a quick one handed visit...

my cracked nips suddenly stopped hurting on week 4 - lanisoh is supposed to be brilliant

monti is a star - feeds 11pm, 4pm, 7am, then i nap until 9.30am

he gave me his first smile today, looking in my eyes and i am so in love - he's so cutey

he squirted poo all over me yesterday though

my back is killing me ...

foxcub · 11/04/2007 21:54

runningal - oliver is delicious btw

runningal · 11/04/2007 21:58

Kitty - thanks for the tip - i just tried to wee leaning forward and it was much better

Leoladyofleisure - I used to do triathlons too! I gave them up after pregnancy with ds1, and have just run to keep fit for the past 2 years, hence my name here. I miss tris though, and will get back to them one day.

Still no word on Mossie - can't wait to hear from her.

Take care all x

TheBlonde · 11/04/2007 22:11

runningal - the other option is to pour water over your bits as you pee - bit of a faff but it works

Piffle · 11/04/2007 22:13

see the AN thread
Bertie is here Mossy did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Piffle · 11/04/2007 22:15

oh top tip no 2 of the day for stitches/grazes sore bits and piles
distilled witchhazel - get i cheap as from Boots with lots of cotton pleats, big wad soak in witchhazel and apply as you pee, or as a releif afterwards or BOTH!
Tis grand stuff

eidsvold · 12/04/2007 00:28

another vote for lansinoh cream - brilliant. My nipples were in a right state when dd3 was first feeding and it helps so much.

She is a dream so far - she feeds, sleeps and watches her sisters. Unlike dd2 who went from asleep to FEED ME NOW mode in about 2 seconds - dd3 snuffles and makes little noises so I get some warning before she starts to cry. She feeds so nicely. I think the fact my milk came in so much sooner this time than last time with dd2.

As to night times - she feeds around 10pm and then goes until around 2 or 3 am and then goes until 5am - but sleeps through til about 9am then. Makes it easier to care for the other two when you get some relatively decent sleep. Will need to change the 9 am feed as that is drop off time for kindy and school!!

I can sympathise with those of you having hassles - dd2 was a nightmare and so demanding - she was also a much bigger baby too - am sure that makes the difference. With dd2 it took about 6 weeks for my milk to come in properly and for both dd2 and I to get the hang of breastfeeding - I came so close to giving up and spent a lot of time in tears over it. I also had bouts of thrush and blocked ducts.

Rosylily · 12/04/2007 07:05

Had a lovely time gallavanting but I was starting to twitch, without mumsnet

And how fantastic to read about all the happy new arrivals!

Pictures are lovely, laidvack when I looked at yours I thought look at laidback, she has an amazing childlike beauty, she looks about 10.... hey its been a long week or two! I've lost my voice!

Makes me realise that I usually never shutup and it's so frustrating to be unable to speak! I've been a bit grumpy but also...

(standing up) my name is rosylily and I am a chocoholic.

I have to stopit, my bump is growing back. Hasan must be getting pure cocoa from me honestly and all the reduced easter eggs isn't helping....sigh

Hasan is a dream baby. It seems so easy this time. Last time I was having a nightmare at this stage with no sleep whatsoever, I feel so gratefull because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to cope.

He is covered in spots though, we are calling him pizzaface.

Anyway prattling about self alot..... Still not on top of everyones news.

eidsvold · 12/04/2007 07:14

rosy - dd2 had a spotty face for a while - it was terrible - just cleared up on its own.

Rosylily · 12/04/2007 07:19

Ooh I hope his clears up soon too Eidsvold. I have a lovely friend who had her baby two months before me and her baby is like a doll and my baby is like a pizza and ironically his name means handsome
