Here we go girls - Amie, Kiwi, Dixia, Flannelettepyjamas, we can start comparing motherhood notes on this one and wait for the others to arrive one by one. Although I suspect the other thread will be our home until there's critical mass. To those of you still waiting to join the post-natal people - get a move on!!

Sponge - it's just a MIL/women of that generation thing I think. I remember with ds1 (can't get used to calling him that!) my MIL was at the door the morning afer I'd come home from hospital with him, telling me that she'd come to give him his 10 o'clock bottle. And that despite her having been told already that ds1 was being breastfed on demand. I wasn't amused!

And this time she's announced that she's got another name for Toby - Josiah! (I think she's perhaps going deaf and mishead Tobias). I'm sure she means well though, and your MIL probably just thinks she's helping and doesn't see how it will look/feel to you.

Fox, i am very envious of your feeding pattern at the mo, i am lucky of i get 2 hrs inbetween feeds, and thats both night and day.......how on earth can i stretch them out? he wakes and is screaming to be fed almost straight away, its the only thiing that will shut him up. He feeds well most of the time, for about 5-10 mins, then has the most awful time bringing up any wind, even with all the moves/infacol/side tipping/patting/stroking that i do. So all the while hes squirming in agony and his face is going red and hes getting hot and botered, then he brings up a little tiny burp, and gets hiccups, then he takes in more air with each hiccup....then he wants to feed and starts rooting but because he now has hiccups AND more wind, hes on and off the boob like a yoyo...god its driving me crazy it really is! I thought when he came off the AB he would settel down a bit, nope nothing has changed (although his bum is finally better with no redness at all)

So anyway, i am not complaining, ok ok ok i AM complaining, why cant i have a placid baby, i had a wingy one the first time round, i dont want another - anyone else having this kind of trouble? Oh an he wont sleep well in the daytime either, just to add to matters, its like hes got to know whats going on, he yawns and his eyes get heavy, then they close then, bang, two mins later hes wide awake.....just like whats happened here, while i have been typing...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....off to sort him out, will catch up on thread in a bit, if i ever GET THE CHANCE....

Happt Easter to everyone BTW XXXX

foxcub · 09/04/2007 13:26

Jay - that reminds me of my DS1!! I remember spending evening after evening with him constantly attached to my boob - so I used to eat my meals with a cloth draped over him and my plate on top.

I think I'm really lucky that Monti likes a dummy - so I use that to space out feeds a bit. The problem I have with Monti is he falls asleep within 2 minutes of going to the breast so I am constantly removing him, sitting him up, undressing him etc to wake him then starting again. So a 40 minute feed only actually involves 15-20 minutes of sucking - the rest is me trying to wake him !!!

He sleeps most of the time but I'm sure that will change very soon

BTW Monti's bum wqas getting very sore and the skin was starting to break but I tried the vaseline and its really cleared up

kiwibella · 09/04/2007 15:48

oh dear Jay... it doesn't sound like a happy time atm. Kate can be just the same with her sleeping - it has taken all day to get her down today. Each time she did fall asleep (on someone) she would be awake minutes later. I would like a balance tho 'cause yesterday she slept ALL DAY and only woke for feeding!!! It could have been the fresh air and sunshine since we were out in it all day??? Who knows.

Off to read the rest of your posts and hopefully catch up how everyone is doing.

divastrop · 09/04/2007 15:51

jay-Elsie wakes up screaming for a feed straight away.atm shes going 2.5-3 hours during the day and about 5 hours at night, and thats on a bottle!she is also whingy and is always full of wind, she never seems to settle and when shes awake shes squirming around or crying.actually, shes been farting like a trooper today so im hoping for a bit of peace at some point.

when we went to visit dp's gran, she offered to wind Elsie for me when she saw i was struggling(note 'offered' rather than 'insisted' like a mil would),and she rubbed her tummy gently and she let out a huge burp !now i try that every time if rubbing her back doesnt work.

i just keep reminding myself that ds2 was an angelic, perfect baby, who just rooted around when he was hungry rather than screaming, and would happily sit in his bouncy chair looking around him when he was awake.from about 8 weeks old he only woke for one feed a night at about 1am when i went to bed,and he would happily go to anybody.
now he is a total PITA who gets up at 6am most days and never stops running around+shouting at the top of his voice, and never listens to a word i sayi do adore him,but i cant wait for him to go to school, although i think boot camp would be more appropriate

kiwibella · 09/04/2007 16:09

at your ds Diva!! Fingers crossed that our bubbas are working things out now and not going to become busy big kids.

My friend does the belly thing with Kate too - she did say the motion should be in a clockwise direction. I think it's something to do with circulation???? Maybe I'm just talking crap!?! The other thing she showed me is slowly pushing Kate's legs up to her belly... kind of like working them back and forth. I don't know if this gives her any relief but, often if she is crying, it calms her.

kiwibella · 09/04/2007 16:11

I tried gripe water the other day too - she spewed it back up.

LunarSea · 09/04/2007 18:54

A weird coincidence - the mum of one of ds's best friends at school was expecting a baby 3 weeks after I was. Turns out she had hers the same day as I did, and both of them are called Tobias, but will be known as Toby! So much for picking an unusual enough name that he should in theory have been the only one in the class - they're not only going to have the same name, and the same birthday, but they both have surnames starting with the same letter too!

If anyone's interested in the relative popularity of different names, this is a good link - it reckons Tobias is no 471 in popularity for 2007 so far, so the chance of another one on the same day, living within about 200m of us is pretty remote!

shanks313 · 09/04/2007 20:00

HI

Deanna is doing well.I still think shes a little hungry after feeds so Im going to up it a tiny bit.Shes only going 3 hours between.
Still waiting for her first smile
I cant believe shes 6 weeks on Thursday,I have to book my post natal check, can anyone tell me what to expect? Thanks

Jaysecond · 09/04/2007 20:03

ohh very strange Lunar!!

thanks for you posts ladies, i was really at my wits end last night, and to be honest i was today also, he has done nothing but cry and squirm and whinge and howl today, when hes feeding he gulps my milk down, dont think it helps that i have a fast let down, i am trying to express a little b4 i feed, but sometimes it just doesnt work. I am also getting into the habbit of giving infacol, and i think it does really help, but you have to remember to give it before EVERY feed and sometimes i forget so have to pull him off and give it to him, which he hates! Anyway, hes finally off to sleep now in his basket after his bath, which, he actually loves and he was quiet when he had it, although hes still not properly settled, he 'fusses' in his sleep and hes such a light sleeper, he will wake at anything...sorry i am going on again, might have to see if i can have a quick snooze while hes quiet.

Oh and i was thinking shouldnt we have a list made up of everyone stats, you know birthday, weight, names etc, bit like our due date list, - that way i can keep track i hate forgeting things!!

Here i will start it offperhaps we could add to it?

shanks-from what i remember, they will check your uterus is the right size, weigh you, check your blood pressure, talk to you about contraception and get you to fill in the 'edinburgh scale'(if thats what its called???)to see if you have any signs of post-natal depression.

getting some sleep - dd3 seems to feed almost every hour until about 10pm and then she sleeps through - anywhere from 2 - 4 hours on average although the other night - she went 6 hours. Thankfully unlike dd2 - she starts snuffling etc and I stir. Last night she woke at 2am and then around 6ish.

Dd2 would go from fast asleep to full on cry in about 2 seconds when she was hungry - such a shock after dd1 who slept through from the minute she got home.

muppethasakitten · 10/04/2007 10:05

Jay - Jensen sounds like Samuel - so as i mentioned b4 I'm off to the cranial osteopath this arvo. Will let you know how i get on - but i think you said that Jensen had already been visited by one - so prolly not much help there...

MIL's!!! Didn't have to see mine this weekend praise the lard, would have prolly thumped her if i had too - she's really got my goat at the mo!

Off to read about Kitty's birth!

muppethasakitten · 10/04/2007 10:06

Praise the "lord" ... although it would be interesting to praise the lard... god knows i'm still a long way off fitting into my jeans!

Hello all

Still feel a bit stunned and all that.

I'll get round to posting up birth story at some point.

Ronnie's more settled, only feeding every hour now day and night .

I can't work out how he's over 8lb, he looks like a skinny snake to me . At the moment he's swaddled and sleeping in a laundery basket . He seems to like it there!!

Hope you and your little ones are fine and dandy. x x

foxcub · 10/04/2007 11:08

Kitty - laundry basket My gran slept in a drawer for months (she was prem)!!

reminds me of the orang utan babies in the orphanage on TV

Monti slept 5 hours in a row agan last night so woke at 3.3.0am with concrete boobs

Kiwi - that massage thing is good (I use it on myself when constipated) as it gently pushes the poo and wind along the bowels to the exit.

Muppet - "Praise the Lard" PMSL!!
