Here we go girls - Amie, Kiwi, Dixia, Flannelettepyjamas, we can start comparing motherhood notes on this one and wait for the others to arrive one by one. Although I suspect the other thread will be our home until there's critical mass. To those of you still waiting to join the post-natal people - get a move on!!

Apologies for the hijack, just waddling in from the due in April thread to say

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

to TheBlonde, hope everything went well. What does ds make of it all?

liath · 25/03/2007 08:05

And congratulations to all the other March ladies of course!

divastrop · 25/03/2007 12:21

congrats to piffle and eids

theblonde-i have been led to believe that playing computer games is an essential part of life and i am totally unreasonable for suggesting there are better things one could be doing with a new baby in the house

dp's computer has been unwell so ive been keeping out of the way in the evenings and gazing longingly at Elsie instead.after fox etc saying they are making the most of the last time they have thier own newborn i thought that was a good point, plus i didnt get to enjoy this stage with dd2.she was used to not being held and would happily sit or lay there for ages as long as she could see somebody,so having a baby who wants to be cuddled is quite hard work,i often have to just put her in the chair and ignore her,so i like having an hour or two with her in the evening when its quiet.

dd2 has now learnt to climb onto the setee, but hasnt yet learnt to get down safely.

the ab's cleared up my sore throat really quickly,i think my woman bits are getting better cos the bleeding has calmed down again.

kiwi-yes i meant 'adult' excersise.i keep looking at dp like and having the same feelings as when we first met,its strange!after having ds and dd1,and ds2,i remember looking at xp/xh and wondering why the hell i was still with them and what i'd ever seen in them.i turn into an emotional wreck who is clingy and needy when pregnant then start seeing thigs as they really are after the birth.so my dp is obviously really a sex god and i wasnt delusional after all

ds2 wants me to do a 'cross' face

hope everybody has a good sunday

muppethasakitten · 25/03/2007 13:04

Diva - so impressed you can be having such lovely thoughts about your dp...

... don't get me wrong... love my dh to bits... but as for the sort of "exercising" you're talking about... ye gads!! Where do you get the energy???

foxcub · 25/03/2007 13:38

No excercising going on here - apart from moving a mouse or remote control around.

foxcub · 25/03/2007 13:45

Monti is going about 3.5 hours between feeds now. But only 3hrs at night LOL! He went from 9lb 3oz, to 10lb 2oz, then down to 8lb 14 oz.

He's so cute

We took him to church today for the first time and he spent the whole time just gazing around with a very surprised look on his face

bethoo · 25/03/2007 15:19

diva - i know where you are coming from. i found my dp absolutley gorgeous and everytime i looked at him i wanted to ravage him. during the pregnancy he was distant and i too was hormonal and therefore an emotional wreck. and i could not leave him even though he was a complete s*. but now i am back to normal (ice maiden!!!) i still find him irresistable but the next time he misbehaves i will be gone and now i am strong again he is being great, cant fault him really. but though he is great does that justify the way he treated me when i am pregnant? so it is just a wait and see really.

i ma having conflicting views on the whole bf as a preventative to conceiving again! midwife said that as only bf i was very unlikely to conceive and my HV said unless feeding every two hours (feels like i am!) then i might get pregnant. so i think i may be on another another ante natal thread soon!!!

hope everyone is well, just going to look through the posts now.

divastrop · 25/03/2007 16:23

i am still all over the place emotionally,im finding it really hard work relartionship-wise cos of previous experiences, and i dont know if im coming or going.

i havent actually got any further than thinking about excersising yet,i have to wait till ive finished the abs then have swabs done before i can have the IUS fitted.im not taking any chances before that.

bethoo-i stopped bf ds1 at 6 weeks and got caught preg with dd1 2 weeks later.condoms were being used at the time!

shanks313 · 25/03/2007 18:22

Hi

We had a not very restful night with Deanna last night, she was unsettled because she had the runs.Although when she did settle she slept for 5 hours.
Shes usually quite good in the night and sleeps for 5-6 hours.
Deannas having 140ml of milk now which seems alot for a tiny baby but thats how much she wants.
Gong to take her to docs tomorrow as she has a slight rash on her forehead, has anybody got any idea what this could be? We dont know if its normal in a newborn and I dont want to go to the GP and make a fool of myself lol.

Glad to see some more faces on this thread

foxcub · 25/03/2007 18:41

Shanks - wow your LO has an appetite!!

Sorry to hear she had the runs and hope its cleared up now. Its best to let GP see rash, but my DD had huge red rash on forehead for weeks and Monti now has a funny red mark just above his nose - think its just general newborn blotchiness

Those of you who are Bfing - how long do your babies feed for?

I'm taking 40 minutes each feed which seems ages, but keep popping Monti back on again and again to check he's had enouh IYSWIM. Anyone else spending this long on each feed? I do have a tendency to neurosis so could be overdoing it a bit...

foxcub · 25/03/2007 18:42

ps also keep having to wake him during feeds as he always nods off...

muppethasakitten · 25/03/2007 18:48

Wow foxy - 40 mins! Samuel only goes at it for 20 mins max... perhaps that's why he's suddenly only lasting 2 - 3 hours at night...

bethoo - i know several women who got pg again whilst bfing - watch it girl!!!

diva have you had the IUS b4?

foxcub · 25/03/2007 19:20

Muppet - perhaps I am over doing it LOL!!

He kind of feeds, drops off, I wake him, burp him etc sometimes change his nappy then I pop him back on again until he's full to the brim!

CallieNewMum · 25/03/2007 19:43

Shanks, last night, I fed Jordi at 11 - took 120/30, then changed him. He wouldn't settle and was stil rooting so gave him 30 more. Still crying and mouthing - I was getting desperate so made up another 60 - he finished the lot!!! 210ml (over 2 hours) that is allowing for the fact that he brought up some of it. I was getting quite worried - and tired. can i just ask those with experience, if babies are making mouth movements in your experience does that always mean they're hungry even if they've just been fed or can it be something else? I dont want him to comfort eat but i also don't want him to be hungry.

shanks313 · 25/03/2007 20:00

foxcub- sounds very much like what Deanna has-a rash on her forehead, maybe i will wait to see the health visitor-shes coming this week to take the hearing test again.

callie-Deanna does the moving her mouth thing too and she often likes cooled boiled water in between feeds. This always seems to stop it.
Wow hes got an appetite,I know Deanna would sometimes like more but I feel shes already having enough.

divastrop · 25/03/2007 20:13

muppet-ive had 3 IUD's before but i had such heavy periods with the last one i had it removed,so the family planning clinic reckon i should try the IUS this time.

callie/shanks-if Elsie does the mouth thing between feeds i stick her dummy in,though she is now screaming so i think she may be hungry.shes been going 5 hours between feeds at night and 3 hours during the day.sofar.

fox-Elsie takes at least half an hour to drink a bottle and also faffs about, falling asleep halfway through etc.all my girls have been like that, plus she will only drink very hot milk, she refuses point blank to suck if its not the right temperature.my boys would drink cold milk and took about 5 minutes to finish a feed.dp reckons the girls take after me with their fussiness(cos i have an obsession with only drinking coffee out of the right cups).

Rosylily · 25/03/2007 20:14

well here I am breast feeding while typing. Not for 40 mins though! more like 5 or 10.

Today I was in the bath with dd and ds2 trying to 'help'. I was contemplating my rolls of tummy and muttering 'must get this tummy flat again' dd was incredulous and said 'Why?' and then 'oh you want to be english, do ya?' No idea why she thinks english people have flat tummys!

dh should be appearing tomorrow, must look at him and see if I fancy him still I probably would in theory. No room for him in my bed though, it's full of children every night at the moment

Rosylily · 25/03/2007 20:18

oh I've managed to put up a picture, though my cheap kiddies digital camera isn't great and had to take a picture with it plugged into computer, I couldn't make it transfer the earlier pictures that are on the camera

foxcub · 25/03/2007 20:22

English people have flat tummies do they? LOL!! So much for obesity

Talking of which, maybe I'm overplaying it on the BF front -

Diva - LOL at the milk thing. I always gave DD her formula at room temperature - she never experienced warm milk from a bottle! Glad its not just Monti who plays around during feeds though. DD was always very efficient but both my boys have tended to try and have a snooze during feeds. He only waked up when he needs to burp!! Bless

foxcub · 25/03/2007 20:28

Callie - I think if Monti is actively rooting (i.e. bumping head on me, turning head to side and generally sniffing around for milk) he's hungry, but after a feed, he often just wants to suck for comfort so I stick the dummy in his mouth.

I remember DS1 used to dream about feeding and pretend to suckle in his sleep

muppethasakitten · 25/03/2007 20:55

Diva - lol at Elsie only having milk at a certain temp!!! Still, sounds like she's easy going at night... 5 hours! wow!

The heavy periods are what is putting me off iuds - interested to see how you get on with ius.

Foxy - i'm sure you're not overdoing it... at least it sounds like monti is going longer between feeds so it must all be doing him good!! When you were on abs for mastitis - did his poos go green? Samuels have gone green a couple of times lately and i wonder if its the abs... i don't think i'm overfeeding...

Callie - all my dc's have been different but i remember dd was a real fusspot for rooting on me... sometimes i knew i couldn't pick her up because she would become hysterical as soon as she smelt milk etc... and yet was calm as you like when others took her. She was a real comfort feeder and would have happily had bottle/boob/dummy in mouth all day... however, as soon as she discovered her thumb... that was it... she's only just weaned herself off that aged 9 lol!

Rosy - Hassan looks very deep in thought!!!

Piffle · 25/03/2007 21:16

Finn likes to linger at some feeds, some do go over 30 mins. He tends to have 3-4 good feeds over a 2 hr period of being awake ish, the conk out for 3 hours- cannot fault the lad at night, he feeds/changes/feeds resettles perfectly... Still is only day 4 after all
Milk in today, nuff said have these funky freezer or heat gel pads to stick in my bra to ease the engorgement.
Tis bliss when he feeds and they feel normal for an hour at least afterwards!

Anyone else get bad ankle swelling post delivery?

Mine are hideous and I had NO swelling in pregnancy, what's better exercise or rest? legs up or down. buggered if I know.

kiwibella · 25/03/2007 22:32

oh no for the ankles, Piffle... mine have finally gone down after pg but not my hands. I just want to be able to wear my wedding ring again .

Kate usually feeds for around 20 minutes although she can go for longer. During the night her feeds are like quick top ups of about 10 minutes. It's funny that there are some fussy babies already with their quirks!! I also get the rooting and am doing my best to distinguish between when she is hungry or what she is on about.

Any time soon, hubs will be boarding a plane in Oz to make his way home to us. I can't wait and will definately be looking at him with lusting eyes . I dream about falling pg again so am hoping that bf doesn't hold us back!!

kiwibella · 25/03/2007 22:34

lovely lad Rosy!! He does have long fingers - and their pose makes it seem like he is deep in though. Gorgeous

bethoo · 25/03/2007 22:55

foxcub - hayden usually has one long feed (usually when i am getting ready or tea is on the table!) a day then just has - minutes the rest of the day though he does seem to be permanantly on my boobs!

does anyone find tht when feeding the other nipple feels like it is burning? quite painful. is it normal. i completly drench the breast pad and end up soaking through his babygro so he is going through so many a day!
