Ivor · 09/03/2007 21:23

Sorry if I confussed anyone over the clocks going forward thing. Sure the good old beeb will let you know when it's time to adjust yours
DS has just managed to roll the length of the living room rug He's very impressed with himself, not so the sleeping cat he just rolled into

homemama · 09/03/2007 21:43

Just popping in to say hi to everyone. I'm sorry I don't get round to posting regularly but I just can't find the time and I'm always exhausted.
Hope you are all doing well and that the Sept brood are thriving. I think the house move really messed up Lizzie's routine and sleep as she now wakes 3 times a night! Oh well, on the plus side she's happy and developing well

Norms, so sorry you've been put in this situation. To recognise you is one thing but to then gossip about it is quite another. I've never seen you post anything particularly controversial so can only imagine the conversation goes something like, 'Did you hear that Norm's DS didn't sleep through last night !!!'

Potty training here at the moment. Going ok although he has decided no nappy for nap or bed so I have to force it on him (it's still wet on waking so he does need it)

Gosh, is it really this w/e the clocks go back? I thought it was the last Sat in march/oct that we moved them. Must remember that.

homemama · 09/03/2007 21:58

Glad the clocks thing was cleared up!

Bristols, we caught first mth with James but took much longer with Lizzie. Pregnancy much more difficult second time but that's probably just me. I soooooooo want another one (esp since having an early m/c recently) but DH not keen mainly because we'd need a 7 seater car as 3 carseats don't fit across the back of most cars. Also at the wrong end of 35 now so time is against us

bristols · 09/03/2007 22:03

Phew, glad the clocks don't change yet. And that I didn't get confused. Would have been very if I'd have got there an hour early!

fairysnuff · 09/03/2007 23:26

I thought it would have been clairemow!!
And I know, in light of that thread, I kept asking DH, do you think I am doing the right thing?
Roll of eyes!!

I have been thinking of the next pg for a while now have been taking the pill so I don't have to worry for now ( we managed real quick the first time, so I am not taking risks!!) But I am already thinking, only 3 more months of pills, then let myself settle for a few and start trying in September. I am ridiculousy organised, soo not like me! But I figure it will mean a nice summer baby next time. But if we take a while then they will be two years apart which, I agree Bristols, would be a good gap.

Bit worried about it though. One is good, will two be a much harder job? But I figure that it will be a fun one!!
Lets see if we can get a DS so DH has a son and DD a brother.
DH is convinced that we will have two girls though? Time will tell.
Can't wait

I was asking DH about the clocks too, was a bit confused for a bit there!

Coriander73 · 10/03/2007 08:44

bristols, with DD fell & didn't realise - i.e the first time in 8 years that we used the withdrawal method & bingo...I mean I know that can happen but we really didn't think it could...stupid I know!!! With DS, 2 months ........I feel quite broody but then I am constantly reminded that I'm really sick for 4 months, hate being pg & then because of the two emergency sections would probably need a third & I really dont fancy that.......

Myrtle1 · 10/03/2007 08:53

Cori - I didn't mean to make you cry!!! It was just strange being back at work and not seeing DS all day. I know I'm being irrational in thinking his feelings for me will lessen, I'm sure they won't. I was talking to DH about it and he pointed out that whenever DS is a bit upset he wants a cuddle from me and that I should always remember that
I have been really engorged by the time I get home from work these last few days because I had been giving DS a feed at 4:30pm and forgot to drop it before going back to work. Anyway, it seems to be levelling off now but have had a few days of lumpy armpits and discomfort.

Compo - my DS is called Edward

calvemjoe · 10/03/2007 19:43

I'm back!
Aneamia, internet problems, mother in hospital, computer stolen, 2 children and a lazy husband means that I haven't had a second to myself for the last few months, however, I'm back at work today and have managed to catch up and post

Cori, there is no way we're getting pg yet! A contraception malfunction a few weeks ago has put me of bding, I couldn't cope with 3 right now.

Clairemow, try Aveeno cream for eczema, we had fab results with ds, it was the first time he ever had babysoft skin.

dd is nearly 24 weeks, can roll from tummy to back but not back to tummy, eats one solid meal a day, has one tooth and a swollen red gum, and is a wonderful little girl (I gush about her constantly). She's had it a bit rough with colds, viruses and chicken pox, but that's big brothers for you!

Any advice on exploding nappies? Elizabeth is unable to keep poo in her nappies, I go through 3 outfits a day for her at least and I'm fed up.

I hope to be back as a regular poster, I've missed everyone and it has been nice to read through and see how all of your lo's are getting on x

Ivor · 10/03/2007 22:32

I'm really sorry about confusing everybody about the clocks, I forget I live in a different country sometimes
Must admit, I thought it was a tad earlly but it turns out that good old George has changed the date everyone moves the time forward so we can all save a bit of cash on the central heating Less said the better on that one I think.

Calvemjoe, hello nice to meet you we have a similar problem with DS and the exploding nappies, it's really not nice is it, after all poo is poo even if it is your adorable offsprings!
I'm really careful when I nappy him up, make sure all the seams around his legs are good and no bits of the nappy are trapped underneath. Have also found that it's a lot worse if he's in his exersaurcer or bouncer, think gravity gets in and makes it worse. Luckly he seems to go at regular times now so I make sure these coinside with rolling practise on the floor.

mabel1973 · 11/03/2007 12:43

hi calve - good to have you back!

The potty training is still going here, not really sure if it's working though, we are only three days in, but yesterday at my mums he had Three accidents...he was only there for about 3 hours! Although my mum kept asking him, of course he said 'nooo!', when really she should have plonked him on the potty and got him o try. It's going better this morning, and like homemama's DS, he is refusing a nappy a nap time and we are having to pursuade him in to one at night as he sill needs it!

The early morning waking was not a one off, so I think I need to increase his 10.30pm feed again. Mybe i'll try and drop it once he's on protein and not jus fruit and veg.

All this talk of getting pg again! crazy!!! I have said if i have another i will no have them so close togeher again (21 months)

Dh has been working all weekend, doing portrais yesterday and a chrisening today, I feel like I hardly see him some w/e's and I am fed up of coping wih the kids on my own. On a posive note we are bidding on a acar on ebay a the mo...v. excited!

JingleBelle · 11/03/2007 13:17

Hi Everyone,
Not posted for a while, but been browsing. So exciting to hear all about the rolling, sitting, teething and weaning.

DS can roll on to front easy now, but is now reluctant to roll onto back, which he did first! Although he does manage it when he really wants to. Not quite sitting on his own yet, but am sure that will come soon.
Has anyone's DC refused food? We started on solids at 25 weeks as all the signs were there and while he wasn't keen on baby rice, he lapped up carrot and pear, wasn't keen on Apple and then since Tuesday has refused all solids! He has also been turning bottle away, I think he's still averaging about 28 - 30 ozs per day over 5 feeds (he is waking between 4 and 5am really wanting food and will guzzle a 7oz bottle then and take nearly all of a 7oz bottle at bedtime, but all the feeds in between he is not finishing and really fussing over his bottle). When we started weaning, he was always guzzling whole bottles no problems at 5 feeds and really did enjoy the carrot and pear (separately). Anyone else got this? Am going to discuss it with HV on Weds, but you ladies are always so helpful. Think he had a bit of a stomach upset last week with more vomiting than usual and some diarrohea (sp?), so I kept him off solids for a few days, but now he just isn't interested. Have now given him the spoon to chew on to see if that helps - has anyone tried finger foods at this young age, if so, what have you given (I am worried about choking, but then I am a worry wart ).

Glad to hear that going back to work is going well. I go back full time (they declined my 4 day week request) on 2 April and really not looking forward to being away 5 days, but as it's the career job I've been going for for 5 years, I at least have to give it a go and then I can always get something part time once I have some experience under my belt. Have found a lovely childminder, but think he's going to forget all about me !

Congrats to all the successful weaners and potty trainers!

JingleBelle · 11/03/2007 13:19

Forgot - yesterday took a pot of baby food from supermarket (Plum Baby Mango and Banana - yum ) with us as was going to MIL's (all homemade at home, but didn't want to take homemade with us). She was feeding him bottle and then when I tried food, he declined it and then did full scale vomit of milk all down him and her! Luckily she laughed it all off - he can get away with anything with his grandparents !

calvemjoe · 11/03/2007 15:45

2nd day back at work and all is going well. DS told me he missed me and loves me to the stars bless him. Have left them both with my mum today, and as she was planning on going out, I sent a jar of apple puree instead of the usual ice cube, turns out I've underestimated my little girl, as she guzzled the lot plus 7oz of milk!

Ivor, nice to meet you too Thanks for the nappy advice, I have a trial pack of reusable nappies coming on tuesday and I've heard they are better at holding it all in!

JingleBelle, Elizabeth's first tastes were finger foods, cooked carrot stick and rusk, she stole the carrot of dh's plate and loved it.

Mabel, just stick with the potty training. It all of a sudden clicked with ds 3 weeks ago. We still have accidents when we are out and about and he forgets, but he's ok at playschool and home.

compo · 12/03/2007 09:05

Hi calvemjoe - good to see you back but sorry it means you're back at work Sounds like it is all going well though.
We've had to go easy with dd on the weaning now that she is covered in chicken pox. She threw up 3 times over me yesterday so the washing machine was permanently on.
I started a thread in the food section yesterday asking what to do with an aubergine - I asked dh to get me an avocado for dd and he came back with a blinkin' aubergine!!!

mabel1973 · 12/03/2007 11:59

morning all!

Fairy - we tried the plum baby foods while we were in london last week - v. nice although a bit expensive. I noticed they contained quinoa. I thought about getting some to try insead of baby rice - although DH took the mickey saying i was turning into gillian mackeith.
Not sure what to say about the feeding - maybe he is still off solids because he had a tummy upset? I know with DS1 he has always gone off his food for a bit when he's been ill, he soons starts eaing again with a vengeance, so i wouldn't worry too much, it sounds like he is sill getting enough milk.
We have tried finger foods as well, last night while we had our sunday dinner, DS2 was sat in his high chair munching on a spear of purple sprouting broccoli - really going for it, so cute and nice to have all four of us round the table.

Only 1 accident yesterday with DS1, we have had 1 this morning, he was engrossed in beebies. We have playgroup this afternoon, which will be a challenge, as I am sure he will just say no if i ask him to go to the toilet.

We are bidding on a car on ebay at the mo....am v. excited. it finishes this afernoon ...fingers crossed we win it!
compo - gave ds2 some avocado he loved it. Not sure about the aubergine....you could try roasting i till it's really soft.

mabel1973 · 12/03/2007 12:19

just realised i might have mentioned about the car yesterday can you tell i'm excited!

clairemow · 12/03/2007 13:53

jinglebelle, we have had exactly the same thing with F - was doing really well on all food offered and bottles, then had a tummy upset 10 days ago for a couple of days, and now it's really hit and miss. Yesterday was the first time he's finished a bottle in the daytime for those 10 days, and it's an uphill struggle getting him to eat anything but fruit... They are so small, it must take a while for their bellies to recover. Try not to worry and don't push him.

Calvemjoe - hello again, so glad you found us and that you're back!

Mabel, good luck with the car...!!!

Really tired today. We went out most of yesterday as the weather was so gorgeous, even went on the beach in the afternoon! Very very windy but so good to blow all the cobwebs away.

OP posts:
compo · 12/03/2007 18:41

God, I'm so glad it's nearly bed time. Today we had projectile vomitting out of dd's mouth and nose and half an hour later ds wee'd on the sofa
Can anyone beat my day?!!

JingleBelle · 12/03/2007 19:13

Compo, sympathies - hope tomorrow is better. Hopefully you're getting it all out of the way on one day ?! Hope you have a peaceful night.
Mabel & Claire, thanks for your input. I did think it might be down to stomach upset, as he wasn't finishing bottles either, so have continued to give him time to recover, but today he nearly finished three bottles, so I tried some baby rice at tea time and he easily took several spoonfuls (and then continued to chomp on spoon - think he is teething, no red cheek, but don't think he's that type of teether). So, am not too worried now and will just try him with some fruit/veg over next couple of days and ease him back in. After tea today I know that it's quite clear if he wants it or not - if he wants it, he takes spoon himself (pushing food and spoon in with his hand ) and if he doesn't want it, he pushes it away, so I shall just go with what he wants - he's so independent, can't imagine where he gets that from !! Thanks for your reassurances though, am sure he will be guzzling before I know it.
I am currently keeping fingers crossed that our living room furniture arrives before he can crawl, as the rate at which he moves himself around just rolling, we need to get everything off ground level quick smart!
Mabel - good luck with car.
Cruise, if you're browsing, am wishing you a good night's sleep as I saw you were still on a sleep board .

mabel1973 · 13/03/2007 10:09

we won the car!!!!!

had a bad night with ds1, not sure if it was nightmare, what sort of age do they star wih nightmares = does anyone know?
anyway he is now in bed!!! i wish i was!

JingleBelle · 13/03/2007 14:33

Mabel, Congrats on the car!!! Hope you get it soon - how exciting.
DS is having a lovely day today and is now really hungry! But turned his nose up at Carrot, Parsnip & Apple puree (I probably would too ). I think I see the tip of a tooth has come through in his bottom gum, so no wonder he was a bit unhappy yesterday, poor little fellow.
I know I'm always asking questions on here, but has anyone got any particular recommendations re. highchairs? We're thinking of getting the Chicco Polly Double Phase Highchair (well, my Mum wants to buy it for us - we were given second hand travel system, cot and changing table and she's desperate to buy us something). I have seen lots against Mamas and Papas ones, but Chicco Polly seem to come out well most places (we need something compact, as we don't have much room).
Any input welcome.
Thanks!

mabel1973 · 13/03/2007 15:19

jingle - glad to hear your ds is feeling better.
re: highchairs we bought the good old ikea 11 quid one! no very fancy, but i just stuck it in the garden and hosed it down when i go filthy...which they do, we hen bought a booster seat wih detatchable tray from argos for 12 quid, it just straps on to your dining room chairs, and i have put ds2 straight in to that one, rather than bother with the high chair, IMO they don't need them for long enough to warrant spending a lot...DS1 was desparate to sit on big chairs and did from about 15 months.

Coriander73 · 13/03/2007 19:20

Hi all,

Mabel, good news about the car Re nightmares, DD started with funny nighttime behavouir etc from 18 montsh for a good 2 months...don't know if any of you recall that from being an angel going to bed she just was hysterical & tried to sleep on our room...it then passed as soon as it came.

Jinglebell, FWIW we have a Mamas & Papas primo pappa highchair that has been fab with DD & now onto DS. I don't know why the have such bad press but we've never had a problem - esp like the fact that you have 5 reclining postions so is great when you start weaning if they cannot sit upright yet etc.

Wel, had my flexible working meeting today! The HR manager was really agressive to begin with & then calmed down a bit. The vibe wasn't really positive but then again I don't know what I expected. She said I'd hear within 14 days. I came away thinking that I really don't want to do back at all. The office was full of sad stressed out people & the politics were flying as was the gossip. I feel so far removed from it all after being away for 7 months. DH is insisting that I need to do something for a couple of days if not three but my heart is just not in it at all......obviously today had to be the day that DD was all off & funny with me & didn't want me to put her to bed - which she always does (since I've stopped BF J, it's been our thing againw while DH does J)......

Myrtle1 · 13/03/2007 20:16

Cori - I know what you mean. My 3 days a week starts again tomorrow and this week DS is doing full days at nursery. I hope he is ok. We had a lovely day today just playing and singing and we went to the park and he had a go on the baby swings We're going to give it a month and then see how we all feel at easter and make a decision then on what to do. I've been having a look for jobs in the town in which we live which would be much better than me having to go into York everyday which is taking about an hour at the moment as there are roadworks everywhere. Its just not worth it.

JingleBelle · 13/03/2007 21:58

Calvemjoe - meant to say before, thanks for ideas re. finger foods, will give carrot a go tomorrow.
Am off to bed now, as am v. tired today. DH just got home early from work and I warned him that I have v. bad PMT, so not to expect to get anything right - am sure I never used to get it this bad.
Ah well, off to stomp around the bedroom (quietly so as not to wake DS ).
Poor DH, but at least I warn him and try to make light of it and at least he never has to suffer it himself, just the effects of living with me!
