Beautician and sock- will be starting sophie on the comfort milk tonight. We don't nee to change tests do we? I thought it was only staydown milk that was thicker but just seen a thread suggesting to change? Really hoping this milk helps her sickness between feeds.

socktastic · 01/09/2016 21:31

It suggests on the box to use medium flow teats but to be honest, I've not bothered. He seems fine still with the no1 teats. Yesterday it did get blocked thigh and I couldn't figure up why the bottle didn't seem to be going down anyway though it seemed like he was sucking and swallowing. God knows what he was swallowing!!

Had anoth day with the brats from hell today. Arrived at mum and dads at about 11.30 with a sleeping baby. By 12 o'clock, he was awake due to sisters kids bloody shouting and squabbling. He didn't settle for an hour at which point I locked myself away in mum and dads bedroom as the brats wouldn't leave us the hell alone. Must have said about 20 times, the more they poke their noses in his seat at him or the more they shout the more he won't go to sleep. Fell on complete deaf ears. And then there's the older one who thinks the whole sodding world revolves around him and what he wants. "Can I hold Adam now?" "When can I hold Adam" "I'm going upstairs and then I can hold Adam." "Is it my turn to hold Adam yet". How I managed not to tell that child to fuck off I'll never know. I'm a teacher so you'd think I'd know how to manage kids but this little arse broke the Mould. Really considering not going round tomorrow and telling them that no, they can't come and visit us.

We had out first ever swim in a real swimming pool and he loved it! I was a bit worried about the water being cooler than what he's used to but he was great. Thankfully mum was theee and helped get him changed again. Really don't know what I'll do when it's just me and I need to get both him and me changed!

You may remember I posted at my friends partner who's been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Well they're getting married next week, just a small ceremony in their house but they've asked me to be bridesmaid and go along with Adam! I'm so happy that they're getting a bit of happiness!

Wow, sorry for the long post - just pouring it all out. It's taken forever to write though as the iPad is now an old piece of shit and can't keep up with my typing speed!

ruby couldn't help laughing at th "I don't want to be a gran" comment - what does she expect? That you'll send the wee one back?

Indians stay strong. Adam roared but was fine again quick enough. I needed a strong cup of tea however!

julfin · 01/09/2016 23:13

Sock that's so exciting and lovely about your friends' wedding!
Can you tell your family that Adam's ill tomorrow and you can't have visitors? That's if you want to take the tactful approach - you'd be well within your rights to just tell it as it is!

Ruby/Tams/Sunday - yes we had a lovely time in the Isle of Wight thank you! We saw dolphins in the sea (who knew there were dolphins around there?!), jasper spent lots of time st the beach and went paddling, and we had lots of ice-cream and cream tea Smile All very civilised!

julfin · 01/09/2016 23:25

Part 2...

Indians - hope the jabs go well. And hope you're not too exhausted this evening, both of you.

Sock - that's exciting re the swimming pool! How old is he? Did you wait until after jabs?

Sunday - very impressed by all your housework!
Personally I would try out the travel cot first, at home, where he's otherwise in familiar surroundings. That way he's eased into his new bed gently before the holiday.

Ruby - how old is your "mini man" and what age is the Moses basket supposed to last until? I thought they were supposed to last for up to 4 months - have I got that wrong, or is yours just a small one? I'll find it emotional when jasper moves into his crib - that'll mean he's a big boy!

7 weeks today - can't believe it!

socktastic · 02/09/2016 01:22

He's 10 weeks today. He's had his first set of jabs but I reAd somewhere it's fine to go swimming now from day 1 as they found no evidence of waterborne illnesses that would be harmful x

primarynoodle · 02/09/2016 06:22

sock am also a teacher but have suddenly lost a huge amount of patience with other people's kids! They do sound very indulged though, I would refuse to go today and just say Adam is getting poorly because his nAps keep being disturbed tbh! That's lovely about your friend's getting married, such a sad story but I hope they have a beautiful day

indians my jabs today too SadSadSad so nervous!!

So I gave Annie a bit of tummy time after bath yesterday and she pushed her head up off the change mat a few cm and held it! It's obviously all that constant rooting and head banging she's doing giving her super strength Shock she promptly lost her balance and face planted resulting in tears though, little numpty!

julfin · 02/09/2016 06:28

Fab, thanks Sock! I couldn't see the connection between swimming and immunisations myself (surely the illnesses they're being immunised against aren't found in swimming pools?!) but have been unable to get a straight answer re this from the professionals. It's only a (busy) week until his immunisations so I might not get a chance to take him swimming anyway. Glad your swim went well. Let us know if you work out the logistics of taking him swimming on your own - I can't imagine how I'd do it without another adult to help!

julfin · 02/09/2016 06:45

Does anyone else find that their babies' painful tummies are worse at nighttime and in the morning? I'm getting exhausted with all the late-night bicycling of his legs to get the wind out.

PS I thought of a new name for a pee fountain during a nappy change: an escapee! (Just had one sprayed across my bare leg - it's really not my day!)

julfin · 02/09/2016 06:57

Primary - congrats re Annie's head stability - clever girl! And good luck with the jabs.

socktastic · 02/09/2016 07:40

julfin love the escapee! What about poo that escapes out the legs and up the back? We just put Adam in the shower for the first time to clean it all off! Wish he wouldn't save it all up!

primary and indians thinking of you for the jabs today. Stay strong!' It's Friday do you can have a gin tonight!

Rubytuesday2980 · 02/09/2016 08:59

Hugs for primary & Annie, indians & Hallie today, hope the jabs go well xx

Goodness sock, so much respect for you for going back for more, and for not losing it with the brats. I would've given up after the first time!
I hope your friends get to make some happy memories at this sad time x
Question - what did Adam wear for swimming? I know that sounds stupid, but not sure how covered up they need to be (baby wetsuit?!) to stop getting cold. How long did you stay in for? Can't wait to take H, just waiting for a spare Sat, as DH wants to come too.

julfin he's 8wks tomorrow, not the biggest of babies (tracking the 25th percentile line), but quite long. I thought we had until at least 4 months too, until I went to get him out of Moses basket a couple of times last week, and he'd kicked himself up towards the top. Rang my (v sensible) SIL for advice and she said that once he starts doing that all the time, we need to move him to the cot so that there's enough air flow round his head. I've started lying him in the basket and putting it in the cot now, to get him used to the new surroundings. He looks so tiny when I put him straight into the cot!

Rubytuesday2980 · 02/09/2016 09:00

Why do my posts come out purple?!

socktastic · 02/09/2016 09:20

ruby he had on a huggies swim nappy and a swim nappy I'd bought from asda on top. There was another baby there though who just has on the huggies one. We just stayed in for about 20 minutes but could have gone for longer.

I think it comes out purple because it's your own post. All of bluebells posts come out grey for me as she's the OP. That's when I use the mobile. At least I think that's why it is.

julfin have a look at YouTube and search how to make your baby poop. There's a couple of videos on there I tried. First couple of times they worked great but yesterday I was onto a loser.

How did it go indians? I was feeding while she injected so she did scream and cry but was comfort sucking too which minimised my upset. She seems normal now... See how she goes on through the day.

I forgot how much calpol reeks Envy can't believe I used to pretend I was poorly when I was little to get a sneaky calpol fix... It was like crack for kids!

beckslovestimmy · 02/09/2016 13:01

Those with jabs today, they say the peak for fever/irritability is 6 hours after the jab. It certainly was for us. Ben was fine the first couple of hours then got more and more grizzly and hotter and hotter (despite calpol) he didn't take much of his tea/bed time bottles but slept well and was fine the next day.

My friend has a little girl 9days younger than Ben and she's been in hospital this week with meningitis. So so scary. They were in from tues until late last night but she seems to be doing well. She had to have bloods and a lumbar puncture and antibiotics. It must have been so hard for her mum going through it with her. It's awful when they are poorly.

julfin · 02/09/2016 13:07

Becks - hope your friend's baby continues to recover quickly. How scary for them.

Indians - Hallie looks so grown-up because of the hair! Gorgeous girl.

Sock - an "escapoo"?! Was Adam ok about having a shower? I've just been using water wipes for escapoos. Thanks for the YouTube pooping recommendation - I'll check it out! Grin

Ruby - I use the app rather than the website. You can adjust your colour settings. I've got myself in pink, OP in blue, and everyone else in purple.
Re swimwear, I was wondering the same thing - thanks for asking! And I didn't even know there was such a thing as swim nappies! Blush
Like H, Jasper is a nightmare for wriggling his way up the Moses basket / pram. Really strong legs! I've also discovered that, if I stand him up (supporting him under his arms), he walks forward of his own accord! It must be a really natural human instinct to put one foot in front of the other. I was astonished!

Today at my "6 week" check I asked the GP about swimming and vaccinations. He said that some of the things that are being vaccinated against are indeed found in swimming pools. He also said it's best (although many people don't) to err on the side of caution and wait a week after the first vaccinations before swimming, to ensure they've fully kicked in.

Have a nice weekend, ladies!

julfin · 02/09/2016 13:08

Ps Indians - thanks for the 6 hours tip

julfin · 02/09/2016 13:09

Becks I mean! Blush

I'm having a tough day. Grace has slept bugger all the last two days. Only sleeping for 30/40 mins at a time. She still refuses to be put down and won't even settle for DH. She is literally attached to me constantly. We have to let her cry with DH just so I can have a shower. She's still feeding loads but I've been told that this is normal till 6 weeks... Still think it's way too much. DH is pissing me off too. Supposed to have today off.. Ended up working all day. I'd made no plans so ended up being a terrible parent and doing DVDs for dd1 as too exhausted to move off the sofa. He's now gone to the pub and the house is a bomb. I hate having ah untidy house and he keeps saying he'll do it but he doesn't. Agh just having one of those days when I wish I could just get a decent rest and I'd feel so much better.

Hope all the jabs went well. They're awful! Probably worse for parent than baby!

sock that's lovely for your friends wedding. I can't imagine how they must feel. Life is cruel sometimes.

Dd1 now crying so will have to finish this later! FML

Rubytuesday2980 · 03/09/2016 03:00

That sounds rough Anna, completely get what you mean - that feeling that what you need (one decent night of sleep and a day to tidy the house) seems so simple yet so impossible to get Sad
What do you think might be causing it? (ie what are you googling in the middle of the night?!)
Were you going to try Grace on some formula?

Sending you a virtual hug x

AnnaT45 · 03/09/2016 03:09

Thanks ruby means alot. I'm thinking it could maybe reflux that's preventing her being put down. She's been sick a bit. She also really cries before she dies a poo, does anyone else have this?
I did try formula tonight! She guzzled 90mls and then slept for 3.5 hours! She's been practically feeding non stop for the whole afternoon and evening so I must not be producing enough? I've actually woken up with firm boobs so feel like I've got milk to give for this feed. Once I crack this feeding then I'll crack the being put down!
Hope you're ok?

AnnaT45 · 03/09/2016 03:10

Night googling
'How long should 4 week old feed for'
'How much sleep should 4 week old'
'Why won't my 4 week old be put down'
'Can I die from lack of sleep'
Grin
