So many August bus babies have arrived already! Anyone else fancy a chat during night feeds or wondering what to make of the contents of tiny nappies? Might as well get comfortable...

And yes, daktarin is the gel. Bonus is that you don't need to wash it off your boobs before feeding

peardrop2 · 28/08/2016 02:41

Oh dear oh dear. Tonight did not go to plan Smile DH was told to give a bottle at 11, wind and nappy change. He decided to change her nappy mid feed to wake her up. This resulted in major discomfort as all the reflux stuff kicked off. DH then proceeded to leave her in babybay and go downstairs. I woke up at 1 with screaming baby 1.5hrs before planned Angry You can imagine my joy. I then told him to come back upstairs and when he did he was in a grumpy mood and at the end of his tither. Looks like I need to once again have another chat about what causes reflux tomorrow.!Men!!!

Laineypopps · 28/08/2016 02:48

Burning the midnight oil again tonight but we seem to have a calmer, less windy baby (touch wood!) Thank goodness. DS fed at midnight, work at 1.30 with a dirty and wet nappy, had a big feed from both sides and is down again. Just day 3 at the moment but my milk doesn't seem to be coming in yet even though we are feeding well. Do you get the engorgement and the tingle with your second baby?

Hope everyone is enjoying their little bundles. I still can't believe he is actually here!!!!

peardrop2 · 28/08/2016 05:11

Wow. I have just read on Kelly mum that if your baby is sensitive to cows milk then it's highly likely it will be sensitive to soy. Great. I've been eating soy milk, soy ice cream and soy puddings Sad Back to the drawing board for me!!

Biscuitswithtea · 28/08/2016 06:25

Yep, I remember that being the trickier to avoid Pear. But coconut milk was okay for not flavouring things too much (I personally found almond milk nice but not in tea) There is margarine that is just made of sunflower oil.
Dark chocolate (c70% and above) is both dairy and soya free.
I managed c 6 months of dairy and soya free life, but to be fair I didn't have the additional restrictions that you are trying at the moment (onions, tomatoes, etc).
Did eliminating those things help at all?

BellaGoth · 28/08/2016 08:43

Pear I'd be livid if DH did that! Why can't they just listen?

Lainey I've not had anywhere near the engorgement this time round. I find it quite worrying actually! Always wondering if she's getting enough milk.

DD was really unsettled all night, I only had one reasonable stretch and DS woke up in the middle of it. Match sticks for me today I think!

Can I ask a bit of a TMI question to those with girls - to what extent should I be cleaning her genitals? I don't want to go poking around too much and make her sore, but at the same time the poo gets EVERYWHERE! it was so much simpler with DS...

peardrop2 · 28/08/2016 11:46

I had a bad night too Bella Confused I'm having doubts about going to the hairdressers and thinking about cancelling. I don't know what's wrong with me, I just feel like I have no confidence or strength to do anything at the moment! Sleep deprivation is a real kill joy!

peardrop2 · 28/08/2016 11:48

Bella I don't poke too much. If it's really bad then I give her a bath but most of the time I just try and get as much as possible off and then make sure I bath in the evening.

hgleslie89 · 28/08/2016 11:49

bella I'm making sure she's properly clean without poking around too much. I think the risk of her getting a uti outweighs any potential discomfort.

Laineypopps · 28/08/2016 12:45

bella - My friend swore by the big ended cotton buds dipped in water for cleaning nappy creases in her DD when a poonami occurred.

Yeah, so a bad night here as well. Feeding almost constantly from 2am-7am but not as distressed as he has been with wind. He has slept since 9.30am this morning, I should probably have grabbed a catnap. Cleaned bathroom and did swimming run with DS1 instead.

Loving having our wee dude here though! He is scrumptious!

BellaGoth · 28/08/2016 12:48

Thanks guys, sounds like I'm on the right track with cleaning her up!

Pear what time is the appointment? Don't feel bad if you're not up to it! I haven't had my hair cut professionally in just over a year, and even that was in a tent!

I've managed to get DS' toys all unpacked at last (they've been boxed up for weeks due to decorating), he can finally play in his room again! Just need to sort some new storage out and then I'll feel a lot calmer about the state of the house...

peardrop2 · 28/08/2016 16:03

Feeding in a hairdresser chair is a blinking nightmare Grin

LotsOfDots · 28/08/2016 17:26

But you got your hair done? Congratulations!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 28/08/2016 17:49

Ah, glad you made it though pear despite doubts - hope it's been the pick-me-up you needed & you're feeling swishy fresh now! And that your DH has made up today for his (frankly unforgivable) nighttime crimes.
Lainey way less engorgement this time too - milk also came in later than with DD. This time it started around the end of day 3 and then I woke up on day 4 with lots and lots and lots of milk. I'm also finding that they never really get that solid, full feeling between feeds, but I spray milk everywhere if DS comes off the boob, so there's obviously plenty there.
Bella with DD at nappy changes I used to make sure all the visible/outside bits were clean and leave it at that - was wary of poking around too much down there and didn't want to hurt her. She was always fine, no infections or anything, so must've done an ok job.

Witching hour last night nearly drove me over the edge but once he was finally asleep, he slept brilliantly. Am noticing that the worse he is of an evening, the better he sleeps that night - think it's cos I constantly stick him on the boob in desperation to try and shut him up, so he ends up fully tanked up and goes longer at night. Must remind myself of this next time he's on the third straight hour of grizzling and clawing at me!
We've also survived hit a milestone today - first public poonami! In sainsbo's, was hiding in the clothes aisle feeding when he did an epic poo...then I realised my hand felt wet...all up his back and soaked right through his clothes! Thank god supermarkets have decent baby changes.
And a personal, TMI milestone: got back on the horse this afternoon! The stars aligned - DS asleep, DD completely engrossed in playing, neither me nor DH with anything urgent to do, and neither of us arsey with the other, so we snuck off upstairs. DH (in tones of amazement and joy): "it's back to normal!" tbh I was also relieved; was half expecting a bit of a 'sausage up an alley' experience and now feeling quite proud of my super-elastic vag Grin. Am glad its out the way and was much less scary & more enjoyable than I expected!

Laineypopps · 28/08/2016 19:54

Woohoo four!!!! You are bloody awesome!! That is amazing! I am still at the stage of thinking it will never happen again ha! It took us 6 weeks after DS1. On day 4 now and still so swollen down there. Although, I am definitely not against the idea of doing the whole pregnancy, birth baby thing again strangely!

I did my first post-baby poo. Far TMI but it was my own personal poonami! Did eland one else have really, really severe diahorrea after their LO was born? Actually the worst I have ever had in my life. Feel so much better now though.

Well done pear! I hope you are feeling uber glam after your hairdresser visit.

Slept for 2 1/2 hours there whilst wee one slept, feel so much better. Also, DH did all the ironing while I slept so I am very happy!

peardrop2 · 28/08/2016 19:56

Thank you Flowers DD was amazing. Despite not wanting to feed under the big black gown she slept in the hairdressers from 2:30pm to 6pm! The hairdressers was half empty which was great as I had my own section but the downside was all the staff were very very relaxed and even at the head massage part I wanted to say please stop before DD wakes up. I was there for a very long time! Weirdly didn't get to hold one magazine because I was holding DD but on the flip side I now have a lovely full head of highlights and cut!! Very happy to have nice looking hair again Smile and driving on my own with a baby after 4 weeks of none driving wasn't so scary after all!

Four omg! You're amazing. I can't even think about that right now. I'm still bleeding Blush How how how is all I can say lol I hope your DH realises how lucky he is Wink

Can't remember who asked about engorgement but it definitely hasn't been the same for me second time round.

peardrop2 · 29/08/2016 02:16

Even though I have to hold DD upright for at least 30 minutes after every feed I am enjoying snuggles and her nice smelling hair resting on my cheek Smile I'm tired though. V tired. Think I'm going to ask the Dr on Thursday whether we can change her medication for something stronger. Gaviscon just doesn't have the same effect on her as it did with DS. I had a particular bad day/evening with her and when I look at her diet I realise it must have been the green beans I ate on Sat night Blush

Biscuitswithtea · 29/08/2016 04:59

Def ask for something stronger Pear. You've given Gaviscon a fair shot :)
Hope your DH is more on the ball tonight.

DD has been doing well the last couple of days. We have a phase of better sleep which is letting me recharge the batteries a bit. Also means I have more energy for DS which is good because he's still a bit off kilter

peardrop2 · 29/08/2016 08:14

Biscuits I'm glad someone is getting sleep. Gives me hope! Hope your Ds is back to himself v soon!

So I snapped at 4am and just couldn't stay awake any longer so I text DH to wake up ( I think I actually rang his phone in the end). He wasn't overjoyed but he did in the end take her away. He had no choice. Wow it was a bad night of her just crying in pain every time I put her down in any position or device including my bed Sad

I was considering going on a family outing today but I shall forget that and make sure we all nap this afternoon HmmI'm so glad that DS is 3 and not 4! He's still very happy pottering at home.

peardrop2 · 29/08/2016 10:01

Told DH that I missed feeling the kicks. He said he would happily kick me Grin

Biscuitswithtea · 29/08/2016 13:00

Ahhh, Pear your turn for sleepy children will come. I'm not going to assume DD has sleeping sussed all the time! I remember the hell of untreated reflux - and also the bliss of managed reflux. You'll get there.

So we ended up getting a urine sample off DS (easier said than done when aged 3) to rule out a UTI. I hope (for his sake) it isn't that but it would also explain a lot.

Shanster · 29/08/2016 13:49

Hi ladies, glad to join the grads thread! All is well here, baby Shanster is a wee champ! Have had a couple of rough days recovery wise, after 2 vaginal deliveries my c-section has been a shock to the system!!!! I've realized that trying to cope with minimal meds isn't a great idea and since I started taking the percocet last night I'm feeling tons better. Baby is settling into a 3 hour feed routine, and I'm not having near the engorgement or forceful let down issues that I had with the other two....fingers crossed!!

BellaGoth · 29/08/2016 19:56

Congratulations Shanster!

Biscuits well done getting that sample! Hope you get a result soon.

pear did you get some sleep this afternoon?

DH slept in our bed last night for the first time since DD came home. He's decided to return to the sofa tonight, he says he couldn't get comfy but I suspect unsettled DD has more to do with it! She was grouchy all night and most of today. Early night for me I think!

Biscuitswithtea · 30/08/2016 18:22

I had my 6wk check today (at 7wks...) & it was a completely tokenistic exercise, lasting less than 5mins, and that included discussing DS's urine sample!

Anyway it turns out he has blood in his wee, so it's been sent away for further tests. Poor mite.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 31/08/2016 03:24

biscuits hopefully they get to the bottom of it quickly. At least this maybe explains him peeing everywhere.

pear how are you doing?

bella my DH has stayed in the bed with us but only because he sleeps like an absolute log - I'm jealous of him.

shanster congratulations! Keep on top of those mess though - it won't be for long but you need to look after yourself properly!

four oh my goodness! Well done for getting back on it. I have to confess I've been thinking about it a lot and I'm keen but in only four weeks postpartum so not sure I should chance it yet. Bleeding is pretty much done and I feel reasonably normal down there but I am nervous.

I'm hesitant to say this but I also think I might be turning a corner with breastfeeding. DD had definitely sorted the right boob out. Left can be a bit dodgy but getting better. She also just slept for 3 hours so I feel way more positive. Previous two nights due to cluster feeding I was still awake at this time!
