Magnolia, Mischa rarely manages more than 3-4 hours either. Last night it was midnight, 4am, 6am, 7am.....urgh...

satinshoes · 03/02/2007 07:35

My DD1 has been pretty good. Adores D2. However she wakes in the night sometime snow (never did before i was 6 mts pg), isbecoming scared of th dark (never had nightlight or anything now wants landing light on), says often "i need a cuddle" and is generally more clingy.

However, she also fetches & carries nappies, tells me when DD2 is crying, looks after DD2 when I'm in the shower and knows to call mummy if she is upset. She askes where DD2 is the moment she wakes in the morning and is also quite protective when we're out an all her friends want to have a poke

So on the whole, we have more stroppiness due to tirednesdue to not sleeping & new fears. But she seems to ave grown up a bit more all of a sudden. She is 3 in March

satinshoes · 03/02/2007 07:36

think i need a new keyboard

Gloria42 · 03/02/2007 08:17

Oh my, had the worst evening ever last night (and wouldn't you know it was the night my mother was over! Sure she thinks all DS does is cry and feed) He hardly slept all day so just cried, fed, peed, cried, fed and peed for hours. Then DP gave him a bottle just after midnight and HE IS STILL SLEEPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't say I fully enjoyed the peace though, have been up half-hourly since 4.30 to poke him and make sure he's still breathing!!

LowFatMilkshake · 03/02/2007 08:35

Not going to gloat, as I know it wont last, but DD is soooo good with DS, even wiping sick from his mouth still. She also likes to hold bottles and put his dummy back for him and choose his outfits.

We do have a little trouble getting her to be quiet and not squaek 'Dyyylan' in his ear when he's asleep, but I'd rather that than have her pinch him or bounce her ball on his head!

She sometimes pushes her luck with us when we're feeding him as she knows we're imobile, but as we carry out a threat to scribble over a sticker on her chart, that behaviour is thankfully getting less and less.

DS seems to be over his cold, but he is still mega snuffly in the mornings which wakes him up - does anyone have any tips. I have tried olbas oil in the pleats of the canopy on his moses basketut it makes his eyes watery and I am sure makes him yick a bit more -so we only use it when desperate around feeds etc when his colds are bad.

Elibean · 03/02/2007 09:28

Yes, I should add that I'm grateful for the fact that dd isn't taking any of her feelings out on her sister. She's wonderful with her - cuddles, 'I love yous', bringing muslins and nappies etc. This morning, when we were all having a cup of tea/milk in bed, she said 'I think we need another baby Mummy, because I like Mischa. And I think YOU should make it'.

not a chance, buster

Quite rightly, she's having her upset about all the changes with me and her Dad, and not blaming the baby one bit - so far, though I've heard that comes when babies get bigger and start grabbing toys

I think said baby has another cold, what a night...

Elibean · 03/02/2007 09:29

Gloria, my sister always tells me about the ONE night her ds slept through between 0 and 2yrs: she spent it up checking his breathing and still regrets it

Gloria42 · 03/02/2007 09:50

Elibean, hopefully there'll be another one for me to enjoy properly before he's 2!! Feel like terrible mother now as just discovered big sick stain in cot! Poor soul must have had a wee puke while I was snoozing away!

Indith · 03/02/2007 10:40

Zonk

Well that would be the 3 week spurt done and dusted then

Gloria we always have sick in the crib. Thankfully sleeping on a damp patch doesn't seem to bother him lse I would be changing the sheets about 3 times a night!

jabberwocky · 03/02/2007 11:46

Ds2 still snuffling w/ his cold. He did a nice 4 hours but it's 5:39 and he is wide awake, has been for over an hour!! And this is my first Saturday to work Normally a very busy day. At this point I'm just hping for a power nap.

DS1 thought it would be a great idea to pull out the top drawer on his little chest of drawers and raise himself off the floor leaning on it. I went nuts imagining the dresser falling on top os him. Dh thinks I was overreacting - again I'm just so sick of ds1's constant antics atm. Really wish he were 5 and in school full time He is just such a handful and dh thinks it's just great that he's so "spirited"

margo1974 · 03/02/2007 21:18

jabber, I hate working weekends and setting myself up for a working day when i don't have much sleep

had a crappy night on thursday - dd2 did not settle until 3 in the morning. Darling dh looked after the girls on friday afternoon and i slept from 2 until 6. I felt much more capable of handling last night she slept from 11 until 2, woke at 3, again at 5 then slept until 9. I watched her rouse, which is so lovely. she purses her lips, arches her back and makes these snuffly, snorty noises.

beautiful!

but she has lost her newborn look, which makes me sad as i think she is our last child, so every stage she reaches has a bittersweet edge for me

Elibean · 03/02/2007 22:04

Margo, I totally relate to the bittersweet thing...me, too. Definitely our last. Much as I want her to be bigger so she's less at risk from larynx-defying bugs (she has a floppy one), I want it all to go slowly so I can savour every minute...

Jabber, hope your day is going ok - hats off to you, brave woman!

margo1974 · 04/02/2007 13:02

dh took dd1 swimming this morning, so it gave me a bit of time to be with dd2. would habe been a long nights sleep but i was on the phone to my godmother in canada until 1 and was trying to set up my web cam.

i am not very happy with the huggies disposables have had soiled vests the last 3 days and today poo went through nappy, vest, babygro, swaddle sheet, and 2 sheets on the cot and the mattress protector. another load for me to put on

satinshoes · 04/02/2007 13:05

margo. i think huggies are rubbish. ws using pampers but recently startedusing tescos wn brand and they're actually nicer than the pampers. no leaks at all and a bit softer.

jabberwocky · 04/02/2007 13:24

When ds2 was really tiny they all leaked. Now that he is a bit bigger we don't have that problem often.

satinshoes · 04/02/2007 13:55

we're putting her in her cot later as her snuffling is keeping me awake and then she goes back to sleep but it takes me ages.

Indith · 04/02/2007 14:21

Someone did a personality transplant on my baby

Everything seems to have gone to pot and he is back to feeding every hour and refusing to settle, apart from a single 1.5 hour stretch last night was a`series of 10/20 min naps! Thankfully dp got up with him around 6.30 and took him out for a long walk!

Currently sitting with my finger in his mouth trying to put hikm off feeding until 3, am not going to let him get into the habit if snacking, if he could do good feeds every 2/3 hours a few days ago he can do them now! (I feel so cruel....)

I suppose he could just be settling post growth spurt but dp will be away tuesday night and I cannot cope with a night like the last one alone

annaspanner · 04/02/2007 18:50

Hi everyone, I'm finding it difficult to keep up with this thread. Actually, I'm finding it difficult to remember what day it is. LO is 7 weeks old and maternity leave finishes in a month. It's only a part time job but I now realise I really don't want to go back to it(badly paid=will earn almost nothing after paying childcare, and teaching kids, when I would rather be with my own child). Strange-I thought I would be desperate to go back but it seems too soon. Is anyone else feeling like this?

Now the LO is sleeping for longer stretches(writing that is the kiss of death I suppose)I have a new problem. She drops off when DP is snoring...but when I roll him on his side to stop the snoring,so I can sleep, she wakes up!The snoring helps her sleep. And I can't use my earplugs anymore because while I wake up straight away when she makes a noise, DP needs shaking(and/or punching) for a good 5 minutes before he can do anything-he's such a deep sleeper
I've given up on any help with the night feeds.
Right, now I'm going to catch up......

LowFatMilkshake · 04/02/2007 19:59

Hi All,

Totally agree with the bitterswet momnet. And like Eli my DS has a floppy larynx so as much as I wont that to be gone, I want to enjoy all the little things now. DS smiles now in response to a smile and coos when i talk to him ahh - I dont remember being so aware of these things with DD

IL's round today so went out with DH's aunt and DD and left the proud daddy to show off his son (and ha ha ha change his first grotty nappy). Went mad spoiling DD as it has been so long since we had each other to ourselves without DS, and she ended up with an umbrella, a dress up set and a DVD .

We have 8 week jabs on Tuesday. Please can those of you who have already been there let me know how your LO's ot on, colds fever etc??

LowFatMilkshake · 04/02/2007 20:00

Oh I forgot - we use tesco's own brand nappies and they are geat, comfortable, generous tape and very absorbant. I put DS in a size bigger (currently 3) for night time and unless he poo's it lasts him right through for over 12 hours!
(Does this make me a bad mum)?

margo1974 · 04/02/2007 21:54

I'm off to Tescos tomorrow then!

And I am a fellow bad mum 'cos I don't change dd2 through the night unless she poos.

Trying to be organised mum today and ensure Monday is not such a bad day. I had a clearout and filled a huge bag for the charity shop. I am now off to polish my halo!

LowFatMilkshake · 04/02/2007 22:00

I am trying to be organised too Margo. Got DD's clothes ready for pre-school tomorrow and made up enough bottles to see me through. Have decided to leave DS in babygro till after DD is at pre-school. so my morning tomorrow shuld be plain sailing.....famous last words!

margo1974 · 04/02/2007 22:03

Just remember to dress yourself before the school run - don't do it in your PJs!

LowFatMilkshake · 04/02/2007 22:05
  • oh yeah!
satinshoes · 04/02/2007 22:18

i am fellow bad mum as dont change dd at night unless there is poo.

i also dont dress dd until we are back from the preschool run.

dd being good tonight although continues to cluster feed in the evenings
