So sorry that so many of us are having b/f problems I am not using shields, just putting up with tthe soreness. To be honest I can kind of cope with it but its the fac that he will only feed for 2-3 minutes on the right and there is only one let down. On the left he feeds for a good 10-15 minutes and I have several let downs. Worried the milk will dry up on the right??

I used to get 3-4oz on the right but now its only 1-2 and thats 1st thing in the norning

B/f counseller says the latch is ok but I am sure it isn't

Any one else's baby have hands in the mouth 24/7?? Ds1 is dribbling for england too. I have never had o use bibs until now.

Also we have now grown out of 0-3m stuff but I have no 3-6m and loads of 6-9m Going to have to do some shopping

weirdbird · 04/03/2007 18:34

I am still bf as well, and also struggling, I posted a while ago on the bf thread about it, and was pointed in the direction of the kellys mom website, which had some useful tips to try. They have been working to some degree but part of it is to feed her more often which has ended up being every 2 hours and it was mainly every 4!!! Which as the feeds still take almost an hour still leaves me with very little time to do anything or even go anywhere!

Runninglate · 04/03/2007 19:18

Yes on the dribbling - it's constant! Along with the hilarious superman impressions....

DD has also decided to have an intermittent cough - usually just after a feed, so that she can cough a load of milk up too. We went through 3 grobags last night

Also out of 0-3 month stuff but that is almost certainly down to the fact that the tumble dryer shrinks things by 1/2" - I did an experiment. Now feel crap that I'm wasting a load of her clothes and she'll probably be in 9-12 month stuff at 5 months as a result.

satinshoes · 04/03/2007 20:11

weirdbird. i'm bf every 2 hours during the day. 2 1/4 if i'm lucky. it takes about 50 mins for me so not much time for anything else. i am getting some decent nights as a reslut though so not complaining.

my dd has been in 0-3 for about 3 weeks !

weirdbird · 04/03/2007 20:40

ahhh she is not really settling in the evening yet and is still feeding lots at night, but then she is one of the youngest on here so I know that she will probably be one of the last to settle in the evening and skip feeds at night... Just have to keep reminding myself that and not get to of you all

Indith · 04/03/2007 20:57

Hello all.

Did not get a good night in my drunken state. Ah well!

Had manic weekend visiting as many relatives as possible in a short space of time. Ds got rather confused by it all and by the time we were on the train home again today was a vry grumpy little chap. Still he fell asleep at som point on the train and for the first time ever remained asleep in his car seat once home until I got him out of it and stuck him in the bath.

WB Ds still feeds very frequently and like you I have to remind myself not to be as he is the youngest baby of the group! Mind you he is very settled from 7 til about 2 (with a feed at 10) it is after that that it all goes wrong!

I have been getting a bit sloppy with feeds during the day, think I need to add a dose of routine to the demand feding and make sure he has a good feed at least every 3 hours. He has been tending to pack them into mornings and late afternoons and going ages in the day. Suppose he tells me when he is hungry but he still seems to do most of his feeding at night!

Runninglate · 04/03/2007 21:59

They are all so random aren't they and it all keeps changing too. DD is 10.5 weeks old and goes to bed at 7, and then feeds again any time between 10-12:30pm, 3-6am, 7:30 - 9am...........she's not actually missing any feeds at all!

margo1974 · 04/03/2007 22:09

I am trying to cut out the formula feeds but while dd2 has a cold, she has not slept properly. She also isn't seeming to open her mouth wide enough so her latch is really poor and I now have sore nipples again.

She wakes about 3am and she feed for about 20 mins and falls asleep, so I put her down. She wakes about 20 mins later and I feed her again and she does the same. So then I have to give her formula (only 4 oz) and last night she only drank 2 oz, then woke 20 mins later and finished the bottle. By this time it's about 5pm (big yawn)

I was doing so well, she was going for about 8 hours undisturbed for about a month (on and off)

Runninglate · 04/03/2007 22:21

Is anyone else's LO sound like they're on the verge of choking on their saliva all the time??

margo1974 · 04/03/2007 22:30

YEs my LO is always choking, even before the cold. Poor thing

jabberwocky · 05/03/2007 01:12

Ds2 is starting to drool too. I'm pretty sure this is the same point ds1 started it. It seemed to go on for ages before he actually cut any teeth.

So does anyone else think the 3 month growth spurt is causing extra feeding at night? Ds2 was down to just one feed for a while now and the last week or so has gone back to two

Dh's blood pressue still out of control - makes me think of eli's when we were all still pg. He was in bed most of the afternoon b/c of it. I decided today to bite the bullet and start back on my AD's. Ds1 is pressing my buttons a bit too quickly these days...although he is being a little angel atm

satinshoes · 05/03/2007 08:32

jabber. last week dd was feeding 2-3 x in the night whereas before it had been once. This has been followed immediately by long sleeps at night though. She has now gone 3 nights in a row 9-10 until 4-5 then a quick feed and then up 8-9. Hopefully you'll get the same luck after this growth spurt passes.

jabberwocky · 05/03/2007 08:48

fingers crossed satin He has slept from 9ish to 1:30 was up for about 30 minutes and went back down. Now I can't go back to sleep...Blaming dh for this one though...

castlesintheair · 05/03/2007 10:16

Hope you are Ok Jabber are you back on the ADs now? Sorry to be miserable but I'm thinking of going to see the GP about the same. I'm just finding it too much at the moment and spent most of yesterday crying in bed, apart from when ILs turned up and then friends for dinner Of course they would never know as I have perfected the art of the "brave face". Anyway, for those of you with experience of ADs can you tell me: are there any side effects, how long does it take to kick-in and how easy is it to come off them?

babypowder · 05/03/2007 12:06

On a similar, related theme, since DD2 started going for her thyroid tests, I've learned a lot about the thyroid. One of the interesting things is that an underactive thyroid can often be diagnosed as depression and pregnancy in particular can trigger hypothyroid. It might be worth getting a blood test to rule hypothyroid out if you're feeling PND.
I'm going to ask for a thyroid test as I have suffered acute paranoia since DD1 was born (again, no one would know this, but it really is a terrible thing) along with mild general depression.

castlesintheair · 05/03/2007 12:18

So sorry to hear that BP, hope you get things sorted. I was tested for under/overactive thyroid prior to this pg because of recurrent m/cs. Do you think I should get it re-tested? i.e. can things change??
How is your DD2?

margo1974 · 05/03/2007 12:41

BP , castles and Jabber

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling depressed, and I hope that ADs do help you.

I can't offer anything except a {{hug}} for the three of you.

babypowder · 05/03/2007 12:57

Castles, I would get it rechecked - it can't do any harm, and its a cheap blood test that most GPs don't mind doing. Apparently at least 1 in 5 women has an 'abnormal' (hypo or hyper) thyroid. There are some good threads on here about the thyroid if you want to have a look (don't know how to link, sorry)

DD2 is doing really well She's putting on weight steadily (about 9 or 10 ounces a week) and seems like a perfectly normal baby to me! But her TSH level is raised above normal, so we have to keep getting blood tests every fortnight. I feel so awful for her and wish that it would go one way or another so that we could stop this for a while.

jabberwocky · 05/03/2007 17:16

bp, I've had underactive/hypo thyroidism for about 13 years now. Pregnancy makes it go rather wonky but it's pretty well under control with meds atm. I'm actually not so much depressed as finding it difficult to cope with ds1 and dh without flying off the handle at them. The Ad's seem to smooth out my mood, so to speak.

castles, my experience with Zoloft has been that it kicks in very quickly. I've only come off of it once during my 3rd trimester with ds2. It did take a few tries of very gradually reducing the dosage but I did it without too much trouble. It sounds like you should look into it. I waited much longer than I should have after ds1 and there's no need to be so miserable when a bit of chemical adjustment can help.

babypowder · 05/03/2007 17:51

Jabber, I didn't mean to suggest that hypothyroidism was the answer to all our ills, just that it's something that we should remind our GPs about now and then. Sorry if I stuck my size 2's in it

Calmriver · 05/03/2007 18:20

Yes, Ambi is teething and has her 2 bottoms coming through already!!!So cute!

jabberwocky · 05/03/2007 18:35

Sorry, bp, I didn't mean it to come off that way here too! You are absolutely right about it being something to look into as it's not included in a standard blood panel.

I can't believe Amberli has teeth already! It took ds1 ages for his to come through.

Indith · 05/03/2007 19:04

can't remember if this has been done but has anyone got their periods back yet? I swear I ovulated yesterday, I do not want them back yet!

Really should book my Dr appointment. Keep forgetting....6 week chck is going to turn into 8 or 9 week check.

Calmriver · 05/03/2007 19:58

I still havent got one after 10 weeks since the 5 weeks of bleeding. My breastfeeding is so all over the place that I feel I might get it soon though...my body doesnt know whether its feeding or not!

Jabber, I know!!! It's crazy...My DD1 cut at 6 months. The HV said these may take a while to push up all the way....
however, my little cousin was born with 2 teeth!!!

Calmriver · 05/03/2007 20:04

Anyone fancy doing a baby cinema one Thursday at Odeon in Kingston? For those that have no idea what it is...
An 11:15 showing every Thursday-normal showings(all the latest films out in cinema)Moms/Dads and babies.

It was amazing when I took DD1,and desperate to take DD2 now. Its all dark like normal(although couple of lights on, so you can see what you are doing)and almost all the babies sleep, they seem to love it!. All the moms either B/f or bottle feed and tuck into something nice themselves if you're me.
