Hopefully this works...

So we can keep in touch and pass on words of wisdom!

Perhaps someone clever could link to the stats?

So, if you've been feeding your little milk leech for 2 hours, and changed his nappy about halfway through, and he was really really really hard to get to sleep and stop feeding....

...would you check his nappy again before you put him to bed?

Because I didn't. I just put him down lightning fast and crossed all my fingers and toes that his nappy is dry and he won't wake up. Is that naughty of me?

Bluebell20 · 25/07/2016 01:29

Cheery I am getting post feed pain after cluster feeding sessions. Like someone is gently roasting my nipples over an open flame. Pretty sure the latch is good because I had it checked about six billion times in hospital. I think it's just a case of waiting for the skin to toughen up. Annoying though because when I try to go to sleep after a feed all I can focus on is my red-hot painful nipples!

birchybaby2 · 25/07/2016 01:45

Hi ladies. It's taken ages for me to catch up on all the gossip on this feed. Baby Daniel now 9 days old. All going fairly well. More chilled this time despite the 7 and a 1/2 year age gap. Daughter loves her brother to the point of mithering him every couple of mins whether he's awake or asleep. She's more exhausting than he is.
Breast feeding going fine and managed to get in my summer trousers from last year today. Bit of a flabby tummy but was pleased I managed the zip and so much more comfy than maternity jeans.
I've spent the last week worried bout putting him in too many or too few clothes. So glad it's not just me. The temperature doesn't help as so warm at mo.
Little poppet now asleep in downstairs Moses basket. He wouldn't settle upstairs in lullago crib and just wriggled himself about and cried. Looks like another night for me on sofa. Hubbie tucked up fast asleep and no idea how little sleep I'm getting.
Keep going ladies and posting on here. Loving the support and advice. Would put on picture but can't assess it on my phone due to my hopeless!! Let's try and get a little sleep. Xx

dollydaydream84 · 25/07/2016 02:59

Bluebell nope not naughty that's the big mistake we made with dd1 just assumed she had to have a dry nappy all the time when in actual fact they hold loads! We changed her every time it was slightly damp in the night and never got a wink of sleep! if you have lots of pain do you use a nipple barrier cream? You are right about toughening up but shouldn't be agony either x

Flossiesmummy · 25/07/2016 03:01

Bluebell never wake a sleeping baby! I would if there was a poop lurking in there, but for a hypothetical wee, let him sleep!

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 25/07/2016 04:32

Cheery I feed Monty-Beau a 4oz bottle at around 10pm. For the past two nights it has meant a 4 hour sleep for him. I didn't benefit from it last night as T wasn't well but I have tonight.
Maurice is so cute. Ms cheeks have filled out too.

Primary my older boys are 11 & 10. Ds1 has autism so he can't help but ds2 is fab. He took T downstairs for me when he woke so that I could get some more sleep.

Cookies yes I have a sling a connecta. Might try it today I just need to figure it out.

Dats hope the piles have eased. I've always found Sudocrem to really help with mine.
Hope you find a name you love for your boy soon. I'm not sure I love Monty-Beaus name. It was so difficult this time as Teddy is my fave name.

Bluebell I wish I could be wide awake for a feed. Instead I struggle not to drift off.

MrsRolly you got it spot on. DH definitely reverts back to an 18 year old. Selfish git.
M isn't keen on the Moses basket either. In the day he much prefers the sleepyhead.
Rafferty is gorgeous.

Primary I need breast pads all the time too. I didn't even breast feed last time and needed breast pads for about 5 months as my milk took ages to dry up completely. I use the Lansinoh ones as they are softer than most others.

Sophie hi. You can tell how warm
baby is by feeling their chest just under the neck. Never go by hands or feet as they aren't a true indicator. In this heat M has been wearing a vest and nappy. Sometimes if he feels particularly hot during the day then just a nappy. I have never put socks or a hat on mine when the sun is out. Be careful with hats as babies lose heat through their heads so if you pop a hat on in this heat they would over heat. You certainly don't need blankets at the moment. At night we have a fan in in our room and Ms legs were a little shaky with the breeze so I put a muslin over him in the Moses basket.
The thicker blankets will be needed during the winter. We often swaddle in the winter using a cellular blanket but those baby sleeping bags are great too. Especially if you have a baby that kicks off blankets.

Belager Hi. Oh your dd is so cute and teeny. How much did she weigh?

Indians all advice online and here is to introduce formula after 6 weeks. However, I've been using it for a week and no supply issues so far. M has one bottle at 10pm and one at 7am.
M didn't poop for nearly 48 hours. Then had a pooping marathon. I had to change him about 4 times in the space of 45 minutes.

Thank you for all the supportive messages on Saturday. Well DH is still pissing me off. He came back and let me have a few hours sleep. Then at 8pm he went to bed. I didn't get to bed until 11.30pm. I went to check on T and he had been sick in his bed. DH hadn't heard it over the monitor or been in to check him. I've told him to sleep downstairs in future on the sofa bed. He's so flippin annoying.

dollydaydream84 · 25/07/2016 04:57

Aww beautician that would make me so cross big hugs for you xxx hope teddy is ok xxx

I feel like I've been up all night! 1am,2.30,4.30 feeds best part of an hour to feed another half hour to settle then half an hours sleep Sad tomorrow is first day on our own too,OH goes back to work & DD is on summer holidays so was dreading the day and that was before i had had no sleep. Cannot get DD to latch properly I think she's so used to doing it wrong plus having a bottle she doesn't know what to do I can't get her to do a wide mouth unless she is crying which isn't ideal. Just wish we had had the tongue tie sorted sooner, it's evident she doesn't get enough fro me as she doesn't settle like she does after a bottle. Feel like giving up BF at this moment! Would like to give a bottle of expressed milk in the night but I'd also have to express to keep my supply going so would be up about two hours anyway! Good to know someone else on this thread is usually awake too Grin

Bluebell20 · 25/07/2016 07:11

dolly don't be too quick to think she's not getting enough from you. It may just be that when you give her a bottle she gets so much so quickly, with so little effort, that it sends her into a milk stupor.

I've been expressing in the mornings for overnight emergencies, and at the moment I produce 80ml from one breast in ten minutes of pumping. Ruben can drink that from a bottle in less than two minutes! Whereas if he had to get it himself it would take him five times as long and he'd still be quite wakeful afterwards.

socktastic · 25/07/2016 07:21

Hoping I can join in your chat? Baby Adam was born 24th June - but I can't find a June thread. After a whole month I still don't know what the hell im doing!

Bluebell20 · 25/07/2016 07:22

Beaut really sorry that he's still being a total knobber. Does he recognise how useless he is being? Or does he actually think this is reasonable behaviour? Grr. I don't know what to suggest to help. Xx

SpeakNoWords · 25/07/2016 09:20

Welcome socktastic and baby Adam. My due date was in early July but my baby Corin arrived early on 18th June, so we're at a similar stage I think.

Indians the coated tongue thing is completely normal and you don't need to do anything about it. But, if it's a thick white coating that doesn't easily come off when gently touched with a finger, then it could be oral thrush. It would be a much thicker cottage cheesey look to it if it was thrush though. You'd be likely to have nipple thrush too if that was the case.

Regarding the pooing (or lack of), we once had 8 days without a poo for DS1 without there being any problem. Older breastfed babies can go a surprisingly long time without a poo! As long as they're not in any discomfort and when they do go it is normal, then there's nothing to worry about.

Cheery1 I'm just getting over the nipple pain now at 5 weeks in. It was agony for a while, and I'd have pain lasting after a feed like they were burning. Now it has settled down and I don't really have any pain on latching unless we get the position wrong, and the pain after feeding has completely gone.

Cheery1 · 25/07/2016 10:43

Ah thanks Speak - good to know I'm not the only one abd that there's a light at the end of the agonising boob tunnel. Did you use nipple shields at all?!

Welcome sock - Adam is gorgeous.

dolly breastfeeding is really hard! Sounds like you're doing great. I also do think it's ok to let yourself off the hook sometimes. Be kind to yourself. Maurice is a milk monster and Im constantly worrying i don't have enough for him, that he's not feeding well, etc, etc and on infinititum. You're not alone xxx

Cheery1 · 25/07/2016 10:44

beaut hope you're getting loads of help from DH today and that Teddy is feeling better x

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 25/07/2016 10:49

Cheery DH is back to work today Sad

Well I say he's back to work he's currently on the way home as he has a super swollen tummy button he thinks it's an umbilical hernia. I did say this too him ages ago. If it is then he will need an operation and two weeks off work. Not sure how the finances are going to cope with two weeks paternity pay and two weeks sick pay. Especially as I'm not earning and maternity pay is pretty rubbish. Confused

dollydaydream84 · 25/07/2016 10:56

Thanks bluebell and cheery x the HV has referred me to lactation consultant to help latch but is a couple of weeks wait. Will see how we get on, as we've said before on this thread, everything seems worse in the middle of the night! Especially when its about the millionth time you've got up! I do have a good supply, managed 150ml in 20 minutes of expressing this morning, usually takes me an hour but as you said bluebell, takes DD a lot longer to get it from me than from a bottle which is normal I guess!

It's not Indians xx good luck xx

SpeakNoWords · 25/07/2016 14:54

Ah, hope it isn't thrush, or it can be sorted quickly if it is.

Cheery1 · 25/07/2016 15:24

Hope it isn't thrush indians x

dolly your supply is fantastic! Good work!

beaut oh dear DH isn't being helpful is he? On MA here too, and won't be able to work for a while. Couldn't do with my DH on sick pay too. Fingers crossed he doesn't need more time off and he gets super helpful with you x

Flossiesmummy · 25/07/2016 17:35

Indians I really hope it's not thrush as that can be incredibly painful - speaking from experience! I've never felt nip pain quite like that Confused

Oh indians what a shitty day. Really sorry about your folks place, that is horrible. I'm guessing a new grandchild might help things feel a bit better for your mum - still so stressful for them and you. Hopefully the thrush will clear up really quickly. Sending hugs xx

Cheery1 · 25/07/2016 19:29

P.s. It should help that the police caught the guy too - hope that puts your mum's mind at rest a bit x

dats · 25/07/2016 19:48

Indians your poor mum, that's a shit thing to happen. Hope she's ok. And poor you with the thrush - exactly, as if bf wasn't challenging enough as it is. Thanks, nature. Hope the stuff works swiftly for you both xx

Bluebell love Infinite Monkey Cage! We went to see them on the Uncaged Monkeys tour and it was awesome Tim Minchin showed up too. And Brian Cox did this thing on particle physics and I was totally lost after about the first sentence! Podcast-wise DP listens to the QI Elves. He also loved Cabin Pressure if you wanted a bit of comedy.

Ellizardo · 25/07/2016 22:17

Oo yes bluebell there's also Serial from the USwhich isn't exactly pink and fluffy but SO good

Indians - sorry to hear about thrush. That sucks. As for formula, we use it here and there and doesn't seem to affect my supply. Like a dummy, and as beaut says, can be a lifesaver or getting you a few more hours' zzzzzz

We move house 5 Aug. I am going to Iowa tmw with my mum, Ted and Claudia for some lamps. Am I mad?
