We're into thread 2! Can't believe our babies have been here this long!

Thanks haq she has been ill for a long time and was given 6 weeks to live in September so it was expected and a blessing really as she is not in pain any more.

We need to carry on baby proofing too, Ds has a fascination with the toilet Hmm and managed to climb on to the sofa and the top of the stairs today! Need some more stair gates I feel.

HandbagFan · 15/02/2017 17:08

Hello! Guessing everyone's busy with every day life - our thread was so far down the page! How is everyone doing?

We've had the letter for DS to have his next set of injections - Thursday next week. Has anyone had them yet? Any different from earlier on? The only 'new' vaccination is the MMR, but just curious whether to expect the same reaction or something different?

clumsypots · 15/02/2017 17:29

Hi handbag! I thought I'd killed the thread Blush

I was supposed to take Ds for his vaccinations but postponed it until march as I wasn't sure when nans funeral was going to be so sorry I can't help with any changes to reactions.

I hope everyone is keeping well and avoiding all the lurgies that seem to be hanging around. The nursery has a horrible sickness bug and has half the kids and staff off so feel guilty about sending Ds in but I have no choice at the moment. DH came down with it last night so I'm in full scale bleach and antibacterial mode, it is literally my worst nightmare and not coping very well at all. I've shipped dd off to her dads for the rest of the week to try and stop her getting it and Ds and I are holed up in the living room trying to avoid it Sad

HandbagFan · 17/02/2017 07:53

Eugh! Touch wood, we've not had sickness bugs in this house yet! We do seem to be very good at picking up colds that all three of us get, and baby and I just seem to be permanently bunged up!

It's DSs birthday on Tuesday and I feel woefully underprepared! I know he won't know what's going on but he's so wonderful he deserves a lovely day for him. We're doing a cake smash tomorrow, party with half the family Sunday and then on Tuesday I think I'm taking him to a farm nearby to see some small animals.

Can't believe it's a year already. Still off work but back in just over three weeks, part time. He's such a lovely little boy and it's been a wonderful year even if it's been crazy hard at times. I keep thinking back to this time last year when I was massively overdue and about to be induced and having failed sweeps etc and I just think about all the things I didn't know!

Ok, soppiness over. Going to enjoy the fact it's nearlyn8am and he's still sleeping!

haquoi123 · 18/02/2017 22:37

Ooh, did you get a lie-in handbag? And how did the cake smash go?

How are you doing clumsy? Have you avoided the bug? It sounds like a nightmare, sorry.

We had ds' bday party today, a week after his actual bday. It went really well and I'm pleased about how my cake went. Hosting isn't all that fun though, I don't feel like I got to enjoy the amount of effort I put into organising it. Ds had a fab time though, he did really well with all the family and friends around, so that's a massive bonus. I actually barely saw him all day... Confused right, I need baby cuddles, I think that's why I'm feeling down. Anyone else get like this? My mental health seems directly l linked to needing to see my baby atm.its strange (and very similar to the early days of his life)

Hi everyone, no escaping the lurgy here Confused

DS has been in nursery for 2 weeks and on Friday I picked him up with a temperature. He was puking on Saturday and temp going up and down (finally resorted to ibuprofen yesterday when paracetamol didn't work). I think he has a cold and a tummy bug at same time, poor mite. Eyes and nose streaming (eyes were actually glued together this morning, disgusting). I've been feeling a bit shabby mysefl, and haven't eaten any dinner for 3 days as just feel like I'm going to vomit it back up. Currently in work feeling guilty for leaving DS with gran and grandpa while he's poorly (even though he LOVES gran and grandpa and jumped into gran's arms this morning!). Hoping he recovered enough for nursery tomorrow...

Lovely to hear all your birthday stories. Hope you got your fill of hugs haquoi. DS has his birthday during this week and we're having both sets of grandparents over for a bit of Cake next Sunday when hopefully everyone is fully better.

haquoi123 · 28/02/2017 16:51

How are you and ds doing clara? Sounds rotten!

Ds has a vomiting bug and has barely eaten for three days. To top it off he's come down with a stinking cold. Less vomiting today but we've had to really push fluids, he's barely had anything :(

How is everyone else doing? 8 days between posts... Confused

cudbywestrangers · 02/03/2017 20:55

So sorry I have been rubbish at keeping up!
Sorry to hear about all the poorly ones too and hope everyone returns to full health soon. Love hearing about all the birthdays! I still can't quite believe it's a year since babycud arrived.

Life has been hectic here! We have survived 1 year jabs- lumpy and sore legs was the only real thing I can remember afterwards so maybe not as bad reactions as the earlier ones... we had family over to celebrate babycuds birthday which unfortunately coincided with both dh and I being pretty unwell with some sort of virus that we assume the kids brought back from nursery. Hosting 6 overnight guests plus extras the next day when poorly is not that much fun! But think everyone else had a good time... but I just can't shake the tiredness at the moment. Nights haven't been great and I'm starting to think we need to do some sleep training (that doesn't result in waking ds1!) And I think I need to pack in the breastfeeding. He's feeding for up to 40 minutes at bedtime and during the night so presumably using me for comfort rather than hungry... and he bites, kicks, pinches and wriggles so not exactly fun for me! Thing is I need to be less tired to work out what to do!!!!

Sorry, that got a bit moany!!! Just need sleep....

clumsypots · 06/03/2017 20:31

Sorry I haven't been around life has been shit the past couple of months, we've had one thing after another. Ds got taken to hospital in an ambulance on Friday night which was absolutely bloody terrifying. He had tonsillitis and had a temp of 40.8 during the day which then dropped to 32.2 and had a blue lip. I called 111 for some advice on whether this was normal as it seemed a huge temperature change. because I couldn't wake him they sent an ambulance. Typically he was fine when the ambulance got here but they took him in just to be sure. just so everyone knows I asked the A&e dr and he said the temp change is unusual but not unheard of and blue lips are not a worry if they are awake and their hands and feet aren't blue. I couldn't find anything online about low temps so I thought I would let you all know in case you had the same at any point.

We had a bad time with sleeping cud but we are now at the stage where he cries when I put him in his cot but will hold my hand and fall asleep. I don't know if there is a leap or something around this age or if it's just teething. I had to put my foot down and tell the inlaws he wasn't allowed to sleep on their knee any more which helped.

cudbywestrangers · 09/03/2017 20:15

So sorry to hear things have been rubbish for you Flowers

Sounds like your d's could have been really poorly. It must have been terrifying!

I think teeth are probably the main reason sleep is bad here. Had a couple of better night's then forgot Calpol at bedtime last night and paid the price. Today has been like wading through treacle

Hope everyone else is ok!!!

clarabellski · 13/03/2017 15:23

Oh my god clumsy I could have written your post! Exact same thing happened to us a week ago on Thursday, right down to the blue lips and blue fingers! DS was home with me at the time as he had puked at nursery and was running a fever, but he took a turn for the worse and when I called the GP, they said 'phone an ambulance'. Scary times but all the healthcare staff were absolutely lovely and DS is much better from the tonsilitis now (finished his penicilin today).

I myself have had one thing after the other and currently have labyrinthitis. Been off work past 2 weeks exhausted.

I'm blaming the start at nursery giving us all these horrid lurgies!!!

I think DS may also be teething as lots of drool the past few days and odd 'shouting' (not crying, shouting, most bizarre).

We had to postpone our jags because of the illness but glad to hear some of you have been through it unscathed. 4 in one go seems a lot!

HandbagFan · 13/03/2017 16:41

Sorry to hear about all the blue lip scariness! Sounds a horrible experience for everyone, and glad the babe is are all recovering ok!

On jabs we had a few evenings of calpol being needed as he had a temperature and was grizzly. He's also getting his molars though so I think the two things happened at once. We've had a few rashes which might be a reaction or might be an allergy to the soap powder.

I go back to work tomorrow! Sob! I've had 14 months off, so it's about time, but I'm gutted! I've loved spending every day with my little man. Im only going back two long days a week - 20hrs - and he's being taken in by his grandparents so we're very very lucky but I'm not looking forward to it at all! It feels like a completely new chapter.

clarabellski · 14/03/2017 11:28

Oh best of luck starting back Handbag.

haquoi123 · 21/03/2017 20:47

How are you all doing? Lots of poorly babies!

handbag how was going back to work?
clumsy & clara, it all sounds really scary! Are they both on the mend?
cud did you decide on the breastfeeding?

We had an awful weekend. Ds had mild fevers but lots of pain and crying, terrible sleep. Then a rash started at his feet and spread through his body. I was sure it was hand foot and mouth, as he was drooling and his mouth was red and sore. We took him to the GP on Monday, she peered in his mouth and explained, ah, that molar coming through will be the problem. It appears we've got off lightly with teething before now! :o

OP posts:
clarabellski · 22/03/2017 09:53

Oh that's interesting haq. DS got a high fever (40c) on Sunday which went on all through Monday and left him fatigued on Tuesday (so off nursery again, pah!). But no other symptoms (no rashes, no bum trouble, no vomiting). He has been drooling like mad for the last 2/3 weeks and my mum said last night that she thought the temp might be due to teething (which I'd never heard of). Interesting that your doc thinks the same!

We managed a week and a half back at nursery after the tonsilitis before above fever kept him off. Think that's the longest run so far!!!! We'll have no annual leave left at this rate with the amount of random half days we've needed to take, and we are seriously abusing grandparent goodwill as well! (they love it though!!!)

HandbagFan · 22/03/2017 12:31

Hey. Work has been a bit of a disappointment - nothing at all to do, haven't seen my boss, nothing was prepared for me to come back to. I'm sure it'll get better, but currently really disappointed.

We're also doing well on the teething front - DS still not walking (and only recently standing when against something) - but he's got a handful of molars and the constant dribbling, fevers and snotty nose to match!

HandbagFan · 11/04/2017 20:44

#threadkiller Blush

clumsypots · 11/04/2017 23:09

Sorry I've been in hibernation! How is everyone getting on?

Ds now has his first pair of shoes! They grow up too quickly Sad

HandbagFan · 12/04/2017 12:41

Yay! It's not dead!

No fear of shoes here yet - still not standing unaided let alone walking! I have a very placid lazy little boy!

clumsypots · 12/04/2017 12:55

Ds is still not walking unaided but nursery wanted some as they are playing outside lots so I got him some doodles just for outside and keep him barefoot the rest of the time. I think boys are lazy in general though lol.

clarabellski · 27/04/2017 10:38

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing OK.

We're on our second pair of shoes already Shock DS is growing up so fast! At his HV year check, he was between 75th & 91st percentile for height and weight (not surprising, I'm a tall girl).

I think we're finally starting to settle down nursery wise. There were a lot of illnesses in the first 2 months.

We don't really have a placid one here. He loves to scream and shout, even when he's happy. When he's not happy, you'll know about it! But tantrums blow over very quickly then he's your best pal again. I'm a bit like that, so its funny to see what traits get passed on!

Can I ask how your little ones cope with 'messy' play? DS seems to have a real aversion to dirty hands/stuff on his hands. We (and nursery) offer him paints and things to play with but he doesn't seem to enjoy it. the nursery seem to place some importance on it (its one of the things that they look at when moving the kids up from the baby room to the toddler room for example).

HandbagFan · 01/05/2017 08:26

Hi Clara

We've not tried messy play so I can't answer! But when he's eating something messy DS seems fine with it until you go to clean him up. My brother hated being messy as a child but DS is quite the opposite and just hates being tidied up again!

No risk of shoes yet but we finally have cruising happening. We've learnt to move mobiles / remotes / drinks if we want them left alone.

We seem to be going through separation anxiety which I've read is quite normal at just over a year. He's been ok with em going back to work except refusing to nap properly but in the last week or two he's crying when I leave the room and refusing to go down for naps if he hears us leave his room. Even getting him food or drink prevokes tears despite the kitchen being in the next room.

Anyone else been through this? Any advice?

clarabellski · 02/05/2017 09:46

Hi handbag, nice to hear from you!

Our DS gets separation anxiety on and off. I hate it but we try to say to ourselves 'this will pass' and we try not to take it personally. And actually, I think that has been helping because it doesn't bother me as much now and I don't think the episodes of it are any less than they were a couple of months ago.

clumsypots · 03/05/2017 17:51

Hi everyone.

handbag we have lots of separation anxiety too other than dropping him at nursery (shows he really loves it I suppose) I can't even wee without him banging on the bathroom door! I try and talk or sing loudly when I am going in the next room and play peekaboo round the door frame with him while I am cooking. Sometimes I just bing him in the high chair in the kitchen doorway so he can see me cooking but this doesn't work for too long (I can just about make a stirfry) before he gets grumpy.

clara Ds loves being messy and has a real aversion to having his nappy changed at the moment which is odd because he used to moan the moment he did a poo until it was changed. We are mainly doing blw I suppose so he gets used to having mucky hands eating his tea and then I just hung him straight in the bath afterwards. Can you believe you are thinking about him moving up to the toddler room?! Time flies!!

cudbywestrangers · 06/05/2017 07:11

So sorry I disappeared! Hope you're all doing well.

We're going through a clingy phase as well. It's driving me mad! If I so much as turn round to leave there are tears and wailing. Having a shower is awful! But he's more than happy to go running off when he chooses to Hmm

Neither of mine are particularly keen on messy play. Ds1 was especially averse to even touching things like paint although seems to be getting over it now. Nursery don't seem too bothered though.

Anyone else's older dc going to school in September? We found out last week that we got into our first school and spent last week sorting out wrap around care. So relieved it's all in place now!!!

Happy weekend all Smile
