We're into thread 2! Can't believe our babies have been here this long!

Hahaha handbag, I know, this thread is slowing, isn't it? Such a shame! How're you doing?

Well, we've got a poorly baby yet again. Fever, cough, won't keep calpol or paracetamol down but at least he's feeding. I had a grand total of 10 mins sleep between 8pm & 5am last night, and that was with DH being up as well. Bubs just screamed non stop and only slept for 2 hour long slots. I managed to get some kip at 5, and have had a nap today as well, but definitely feeling worse for wear. And a further kick in the teeth, the little rascal perked up at the Dr's! Poor thing, I'm so fed up with him being ill!

If you do Christmas, what Christmas presents are you planning for babies?

Hi Haquoi thank goodness someone is still out there!

Sorry to hear little ones poorly. DS also seems to have gone from one cold to another although this one is not so bad, and I don't seem to have picked this one up. Yet.

Re Christmas, were looking at a trike for him plus some small stocking presents (toy car, a mirror, etc) so he can practice opening presents on Christmas morning. He has so many aunts and uncles and some of my friends have already been so kind and generous that he's not going short on presents! I'm also conscious that his birthday is not that far away so I don't want to go crazy now...

haquoi123 · 28/11/2016 18:57

Yeah I'm sort of thinking that he's so young and doesn't need much, and we have so little storage that is rather not get him anything. But then I feel bad and he does something that makes me think he would appreciate some new toys (he plays with the same puzzle pieces over and over as he loves them, or a green plastic cup). We were thinking about a trike as well though. Which one were you looking at?

Sorry! I am so shit at responding!

haq sorry to hear your ds is poorly again! We are in a never ending cycle of colds here too.

For Christmas I think I am mainly getting useful 'presents' so his sister can help open them but we are getting him a rocking giraffe as dd absolutely loved her rocking duck when she was his age.

Ds has 4 teeth now and is pulling himself onto his feet and cruising round the furniture, just had to drop the cot again!

Dd broke her thumb last week so she can't dress herself properly or wash her own hair. Getting out in the morning is rather stressful!

Is anyone else finding work different now they have gone back after maternity leave?

cudbywestrangers · 29/11/2016 09:37

Sorry, still here!!!! Really hope ds gets better soon haq and you get some sleep.

We're OK but really struggling with lack of sleep at the moment Sad I'm blaming teeth but it's been pretty grim for the last week or two... waking and screaming for hours on end so no matter what I do everyone is being kept up. I don't remember ds1 writhing around in agony like this but can't think of anything but teeth as no fever, seems fine most of the day and painkillers do help eventually. Really hope whichever ones it is come through soon...

Travelling wasn't as bad as I expected handbag although definitely much harder work than previous children! Wouldn't fancy long haul though...

Ask me about work next month clumsy! Not looking forward to going back at the moment. Popped in last week for flu jab and things don't sound great!

Best get sorted, supposed to be out but not sure where I left the matchsticks!

cudbywestrangers · 29/11/2016 09:40

Forgot about Christmas! Really don't know what to get the kids. They're really not short of anything... for ds1 we didn't bother for his first Christmas as knew that family would spoil him and we had just bought a load of clothes. Second time round it's even worse as need to get something to open but we have everything from ds1! Suppose it's a nice problem to have really Grin

HandbagFan · 29/11/2016 12:44

Feeling some baby rage - a Facebook friend (we went to school together) has put up a photo of their baby saying she's not sure about this food stuff. The baby was born in August and is tiny and is in her bouncer chair and still looks curled up like a newborn. Why on each is she giving her food? The reason she looks so confused is because she's not ready for weaning yet!

It makes me really cross. I took another school friend off my FB when he posted his 3m old having rusks.

I've turned into one of those militant parents but it just makes me so cross! Just wait a few weeks!

HandbagFan · 29/11/2016 12:46

Haquoi I'm looking at the 5 in 1 smartrike from Smyths Toys because it comes with a free bike we can put away until he's old enough.

Troika · 29/11/2016 20:08

Hey everyone
Fell off the thread!
We're all OK, still no sleep. Have good nights where I think we've cracked it and then it all goes to shit again. Last few nights have been particularly bad however as she is impossible to resettle and just cries. And cries.

Have done a couple of kit days now. Dd has done one session with childminder. She was just sat watching the other children looking worried when I went to pick her up then cried when she saw me Sad Hope she'll be OK when she's there properly.

She's still not really mobile. Has started trying to pull up and has done it successfully a few times but more often fails. Slides around the floor a bit and turns in circles when sitting but not bum shuffing or crawling yet. Seems really late compared to my other two. Trying not to worry!

Had a big allergic reaction to egg a couple of weeks ago so avoiding that and being a bit more careful what I give her now.

Troika · 29/11/2016 20:16

Oh, Christmas. Dd is having happy land. She has one figure so far which is her favourite toy so we've got her the zoo set (although it says 18m+ on the box, not sure why! Will maybe have to keep a few bits back if they look unsafe) and then father Christmas will bring her some more figures in her stocking. Other than that some balls with things in them (clear description!) and some books. We have so much stuff already it's crazy.

clumsypots · 02/12/2016 21:44

troika hope dd is ok after her allergic reaction.

Has anyone else had a massive form to fill in for 10month check yet? It arrived yesterday and I'm supposed to take him to an appointment on Monday Hmm I've called and cancelled it coz of work and now they are coming round to do house visit to do a developmental check because they don't run the clinic on my day off.

HandbagFan · 03/12/2016 08:16

I've been sitting on the form for nearly three weeks. I need to call up and make the appointment. DS is doing everything except the section on standing.

cudbywestrangers · 03/12/2016 09:36

I've got the form and appointment on the 19th so it's done before I go back to work. No checked the questions yet but babycud seems ahead of where ds1 was at this age so not too worried!

clumsypots · 03/12/2016 10:23

Ds is doing the majority of things on the list so I'm not worried just annoyed at the timing of it and now I have to make sure my house is deep cleaned for when the health visitor comes round which I don't know when I'm going to have time to do with work being manic.

We have tooth number 5 making an appearance too so he has spent all last night and this morning screaming poor little mite

clarabellski · 07/12/2016 21:41

Hi guys! Sorry fell off thread! Was in Spain with ds and dh last 2 weeks of November, which was lovely. Ds came back with vom and diarrhea and gave it to me, dh, mil, sil neice and my mum!
I'm just feeling human again and I go back to work tomorrow! Eek Shock

Going to get ds a new bath toy for Xmas. he enjoys bathtime. And a new carseat if that counts!?!

5teeth here! After 3 months with just 1 tooth, 4 appeared out of nowhere just before our holiday....go figure....

clumsypots · 08/12/2016 12:55

Oh no clara! Glad you are feeling better. I hope work is going ok today.

I've managed to rearrange health visitor so I go at the end of one of the well baby clinics...no deep cleaning needed wahoo!

haquoi123 · 08/12/2016 23:02

We went for the 10 month check and ds is doing great - 25.8lbs and 78cm long. Fine for everything, although he failed the gross motor skills!! The hv wasn't worried at all though, so I just think it's funny. Ds is starting to hold his weight on his legs and is working towards holding on whole standing. And crawling backwards!

troika how's your dd doing?

handbag I don't understand the rush to wean, its so much more faff!

clumsy glad hv had been rearranged. My house is such a tip at the mo I'd hate for anyone to come round!

The hv told me to put ds in his own room and stop bf at night. I feel really annoyed and uncomfortable with that advice. She said he doesn't need the milk, be just wants mummy. What's wrong with that?? If I don't mind, what's the problem? I couldn't stand up for myself, I just nodded... Angry

OP posts:
haquoi123 · 08/12/2016 23:03

clara, gah, horrible illnesses!

OP posts:
clumsypots · 14/12/2016 21:27

Don't be cross haq there's nothing wrong with wanting mom at this age, and perfectly natural to nod and disagree internally Grin

I gave up bf last Monday and really miss it! I now also have an abscess in my boob so got strong antibiotics and co codamol with strict instructions to go to hospital if it gets any worse.

haquoi123 · 15/12/2016 09:23

Oof! clumsy that sounds painful!! Do you mind me asking, what led you to give up? I don't feel ready yet myself, but I'm curious to see what might make me ready. Update, I've gone completely against hv's advice and he's now showing in our bed even more, doesn't even move into his (side-carred) cot! Grin that's my two fingers held up to her. I made the mistake of telling DH though, he jumped on the idea! I'm sure he secretly loves the co-sleeping too though, I caught them snuggled up back-to-back this morning (awww, melting heart!)

OP posts:
clumsypots · 15/12/2016 10:22

haq I don't mind at all I just felt so poorly with a cold that I couldn't fight on my own that I needed to take some tablets and they all said I couldn't do it while I was bfing so I felt I had no choice. I wasn't ready to stop mentally. Turns out cold was start of mastitis though oops.

Love seeing Ds and dh snuggled in bed together too.

clarabellski · 17/12/2016 22:35

Being back at work fine so far. Wee man starts nursery in February which will be the real test. Dh doing shared parental leave atm and loving it.

Hope everyone is keeping well x

haquoi123 · 20/12/2016 22:10

Great that you're DH is loving spl Clara. We would have liked to have done that but weren't eligible.

clumsy I'm so sorry, that sucks. How are you doing now?

Both ds and DH are I'll. Here's hoping it clears before Xmas and that I don't get it! We're so behind on Christmas presents, I don't think we're going to make it...

OP posts:
clumsypots · 24/12/2016 22:18

Happy Christmas for tomorrow everyone! I hope you all have a lovely day with your not so little babies!

I'm a lot better thanks haq hope your family are ok and you have avoided it!

clumsypots · 24/12/2016 22:19

Ooh sorry clara glad work is going ok and I hope you've got some time off over Christmas to relax.
