So last night was the first night DD has ever spent away from me and the first night since she was born DH & I have had a completely childfree night.

I'd like to say I missed her terribly but honestly - it is sooo wonderful to have the time and space just to be me and DH, not Mummy & Daddy for a little while.

The children all went to my Mums from Wed afternoon until Thursday bedtime. I'm really lucky that my Mum is so hands-on. She always has the bigger ones for a sleepover every school holidays, this time we decided to try DD going too. Mum has a cot and nursery at her house, but DD ended up cosleeping in her bed, bless. They've all come back super tired after a mega busy day though.

DH & I went out for dinner. Netflix and chilled in the evening then went out for breakfast this morning. The best thing in the world though, was being able to wake up naturally, with no one waking us up. Then being able to lie in bed awake and just relaxing, rather than feeling dragged out of bed.

We had a lie-in to heady time of 8.45 Shock The days of lying in bed until lunchtime are well and truly past, even when given the opportunity nowadays.

CumbrianExile · 03/06/2016 07:48

Glad you had a good time without the kids Fate. Its nice to have some time alone if you can get it.

Cookie I hope the dinner was more successful than breakfast or lunch. We have the opposite problem with A, won't let us feed him. Even yogurts, which pretty much always end up everywhere other than in his mouth lol.

Holidays tomorrow and I have come down with the mother of all colds, coupled with catching conjunctivitis from A. Typical!

polkadotdelight · 03/06/2016 13:07

Oh FATE that sounds like utter bliss.

DS has been able to say mummy (well, 'me me/ mimi') for a very long time but never bothered to actually use it but now I get woken by him in the morning calling me from his cot or telling DH he wants me. He is so very funny, loves watching Something Special and laughs when Mr Tumble does something silly - he seems to understand so much.

KitKat1985 · 06/06/2016 14:42

Oh Fate that sounds like bliss!

I'm off to Spain on Thursday. I literally can't wait. We went on holiday last year but honestly it was more stressful than relaxing (especially with DD waking in the night and crying and inevitably waking the people up in the next room). Also DD was a bit too young to really join in. This year now that she finally sleeps through the night (I still feel that some sort of fan-fare should play each time I say that) I'm hoping it'll be more relaxed. Plus we haven't got to worry about sterilising etc this time around. Mostly though I just know she's going to love splashing in the pools and playing in the sandy beach etc. So excited! Grin

In other news DD nearly broke my nose this morning! DH was using the bath when DD woke up so I decided to snuggle in bed for 10 mins with DD and put CBeebies on. All good until 'Hey Duggee' (which is DD's absolute favourite show) came on. She got so excited she threw her head back and smacked me hard right in the nose. Whilst she excitedly settled down to watch Hey Duggee she must have been wondering why Mummy kept saying a word that sounded a bit like 'Duck' repeatedly when there were clearly no ducks to be seen. [bush] I honestly did think she had broken or fractured my nose at first. As it is I have a lovely bruise all across the bridge of my nose and under my eye (which I'm sure will look lovely on holiday)!

FATEdestiny · 09/06/2016 13:11

Anyone else having a "mine!" phase? Difficult when DD decides that something is "mine" that in fact belongs to her brothers or sister.

I bought the boys a new football yesterday. Because DD was with me in the super market when I bought the ball and because I was silly enough to give her the ball to hold as we went round the isles in the supermarket - she now considers it hers. She grabs hold of this ball with all her might at home, shouting "mine" and squealing when it's prised from her grip.

Fantastic levels of understanding at the moment, with some multiple word sentences in her language. This is a great age, DD is a joy.

We've also got pop song lyrics and dance moves from DD - so funny. She can do the "Whip Nay Nay" dance, she knows "The Dab" and can sing along to various songs on the radio. Nursery rhymes as well of course, but no harm in her knowing a bit of Bieber too Grin

Hope those on holiday are having a great time.

LillyBugg · 09/06/2016 18:29

Not sure DS knows the word mine thankfully! So many words now though which is lovely. And a few coming together as well. 'Bye bye X' is a firm favourite as is 'green car' and 'read it'. He's book obsessed!

I'm having some bloods done for fertility tests and also a scan as 7 cycles in and still no luck. Never thought it would take so long, very naive. I've had the odd thought of what would it be like to have only one but I'm trying not to worry too much at the moment.

I think DS might have hay fever, anyone see have this with a little one? Think I need to do some googling about antihistamines and toddlers. I have no problem drugging myself to stop the itch but should probably think about it a bit more for DS!

cookielove · 09/06/2016 21:05

Hello all!

E has still got quite a limited vocabulary, he is coming out with lots of words but still not saying lots of you see what I mean. He doesn't say mine but he does say no when you ask him anything even if he means yes!

lilly sorry you are having such a hard time ttc. Fx it happens soon for you!

FATEdestiny · 10/06/2016 11:58

Oh Lilly. Seems so cruel when it was easy to conceive before. I hope everything is ok.

polkadotdelight · 10/06/2016 12:04

So sorry to hear that Lilly I wish I had something helpful to say.

LillyBugg · 10/06/2016 12:14

Thank you everyone. I feel ok, I've only really been upset a couple of times when people who have children ds's age have announced pregnancies. And I feel a bit down the day my period starts. But it's not hanging over me constantly which is good. I've had a positive ovulation test this month which is a first which is really good, and the scan I have booked is the day after my period is next due so fingers crossed this month is my month! It's hard when people ask when we're having another, it's just so insensitive. I get that they mean no harm, and especially people who don't have children they just have no idea that it's not as straight forward as just deciding to have a baby. But it's hard to hold my tongue sometimes!

Kitkat how are you feeling? Perhaps tell me all the awful things about being pregnant and having a toddler and I'll just feel grateful then lol.

I've googled the hayfever thing and it says it's most common in children over 7. So maybe it's just a cold.

DH is away for six days and five nights now on a golf trip with his friends. Feels like a long stretch ahead of me! Some things I'm looking forward to, like the bed to myself, the early nights with my choice of tv, and eating crap without any comments. But...DS by myself for 6 days, I must have been feeling rather generous when he asked me if it was ok to go!!

MyGreenSofa · 11/06/2016 10:16

Oh yes very generous of you Lily! And fingers crossed for you this month!

We will start to TTC again next month after our wedding which is next Saturday!! (Freaking out) DD did seem to come along quite quickly so I'm trying very hard not to get ahead of myself and assume it's a given with the next one, especially as DTD is a much rarer occurrence now!

DD has loads of words now and is starting to put some together, the most impressive so far I think is "mummy got bowl". I beamed lol. But there's lots of words preceded by "oh no" to make a sentence lol and plenty of "there you go" which is so cute. I love to see the words coming and all the very quick learning and growing at this stage from baby to child but I'm also finding it hard work. DD is so outgoing with no sense of fear and very stubborn too!

CumbrianExile · 11/06/2016 20:44

Ooh good luck with the wedding MyGreenSofa. Hope you have a lovely day. Just remember to take some time for yourself and your husband to enjoy the day...it goes so fast!

Lilly hope the scan goes well and you are successful ttc soon Thanks

We got back from our holidays today. Spent a week at a Haven camp and DS was up late every night as he refused to sleep in his pram (too nosy for his own good), so tonight has been fun trying to get him back to his routine. He has been in his cot for 45 minutes now and I think we finally have a break through, its gone quiet upstairs Grin/

FATEdestiny · 13/06/2016 21:19

Oh god the whining! X-(

I've had a blissful 20-something months of no whining happy baby and the move to one nap has done it. I not have the witching hours of 11am mixture of hunger and tired whining and the 6pm teatime whining. I cant bear whinging and whining. Grrrr.

I am very close to just going sod it, go back to two naps and be a happy not-tired toddler again. That whole ' keeping her going until nap/bedtime' is so much hard work. But she has got to get used to one nap a day at some point, so needs adjust her body clock. Grrrr, I don't know.

Anyway, my self-indulgent ranting aside....

Wow GreenSofa, I had no idea your wedding was so close. That's factastic. What are your plans? Big day or small and intimate? What's your dress like? Colour scheme? Sorry to throw questions at you. I LOVE weddings! Grin

KitKat1985 · 17/06/2016 13:46

Hello. Came back from holiday yesterday. Had a lovely time but back to reality with a bump.

GreenSofa congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! Like Fate I love weddings and would love some details. Smile

LillyBugg sorry you are having problems TTC. I hope things improve soon and your positive ovulation test this month is a good sign. I'm not too bad thanks for asking. It is tiring second time around though as no lay-ins or naps to help get through the day when you are flagging. Pleased that the first trimester is over though. Will be 17 weeks on Monday. xx

LillyBugg · 18/06/2016 06:54

Happy Wedding day mygreensofa! I love weddings to and would love to hear all about it!! Hope you have the best day, x

FATEdestiny · 18/06/2016 14:06

Happy Wedding Day GreenSofa!

Nazly · 19/06/2016 01:46

Happy wedding day green sofa ; hope you've had a great day- perhaps you are still dancing and having fun :)
Come tell us how it all went, we love to hear it :) and how was your dd during the weDDing?

I am getting a tiny bit concerned about the lack of talking and not having many words of ds
Some people say being dual language will delay this - well, perhaps but by how long?!

He is smart enough, understands well , knows all alphabets and colours and animals and things, etc and learns very fast; but still no talking

TeamEponine · 19/06/2016 20:47

Hi all,

Sorry I've not been around for a bit. Things have been really crazy at work, then we went on holiday, then straight back to crazy work!

I'm currently on a train off on a work thing for a couple of days. I did the same thing last year, and it was all fine, but I'm finding it far more difficult this time. She's that much older, and I think she will notice far more. I'm also going to miss her much more this time. I'll miss our little chats and the way she makes me laugh! So far she's having a great time with daddy, but I'm missing her already.

Anyway, holiday was great! DD had a great time on the beach and loved just eating whatever she wanted. She mainly survived on pizza, olives, bananas and chocolate cake Grin But, we are also having some serious "MINE" issues. She was building sandcastle with DH and a little boy, about four years old, was clearly desperate to join in, slowly getting closer and closer... Then DD stood up, got between the boy and the castle making area, put her hand up to stop the boy coming and closer and shouted "no, my daddy, my sandcastle, mine, mine, no!!!" Little boy cried and ran off!

We've also had some bad behaviour recently. Nursery said the other day that she'd not been using her listening ears, and we've had a similar thing at home. Anyway, it came to a head the other day, and DE was majorly told off, well, put in a corner of the couch on her own. She didn't cry, but sat there silently, and after she was very cuddly and sweet. The next day she came home from nursery with a sticker for good listening! I'm hoping she's started to understand that in really does mean no?!

She's a real chatterbox, often using four or five words together. Never stops chatting and singing, knows most of her colours and recently started counting to ten! We've also just got another tooth, so the second bottom on the left. It's so strange looking at other children her age who have a full set of teeth. It makes her look much younger, especially given that she's so petite.

Lillybug - good luck with the blood tests and scan. It must be so difficult, but positive that you've ovulated this month. How was the six days with your DH away? Hope it went smoothly.

MyGreenSofa - hope you had a wonderful wedding! Massive congrats. Flowers

KitKat - glad you had a good holiday. I can't even imagine being pregnant, I can barely manage day-to-day as it is!

Ok, that was way too long, but fab to catch up! X

polkadotdelight · 19/06/2016 21:08

Oh god. No colours or counting here and the most stringing of words us 'I do it' when it comes to wet wiping during nappy changes! No alphabet or 'mine' issues yet either.

cookielove · 20/06/2016 13:40

Absolutely no colours, or counting here! He recently started saying 'I stuck' or 'I go' he links words in statements like 'readt steady go' and 'oh no/oh dear/uh oh' he sometimes copy us when we say 'whoopsie daisy' or 'there you go'. Says car all the time! And 'raaa'

polkadotdelight · 23/06/2016 21:53

Where did everyone go?

I'm feeling really down at the moment. It seems like every day there are reports or a trial where a toddler or baby has been killed by his or her parents. Having a child of similar age is really making me feel it right now, that and something I saw about a hunt and fox cubs this morning. How can people be so evil?

TeamEponine · 23/06/2016 22:19

I'm here!

Flowers

I know what you mean about all these child murders. DH and I were talking about this the other day, wondering whether the world is becoming more evil, or whether we just notice it more now that we are parents.

The referendum isn't exactly making things jolly, and then the weather tops things off nicely!

Maybe we need to have a game of: say one thing that your almost two year old does that makes you happy?!

I'll start - if she's having difficulties getting to sleep, she takes my hand and places it on her bottom as an instruction to jiggle her to sleep. Not sure why, but I just can't resist!

polkadotdelight · 23/06/2016 22:25

Good idea.

When I pick him up from my parents house after work I can see him waiting in the window. When he sees the car he beams, jumps up and down and waves before running to the front door where I can see his hands reaching for the handle through the frosted glass. There is nothing better than the expression on his face when he sees the car!

LillyBugg · 24/06/2016 07:02

I'm still here to!

DS has finally discovered the joy of rain and my garden flooded last night so I sent him out in crocs and a romper and he LOVED it. Proper splashing in the pouring hard rain.

LillyBugg · 24/06/2016 15:48

This made me pretty happy today amongst all the doom and gloom. It's been a beautiful day here! Went to a music class this morning which DS did really well in (still super clingy so I mean he was confident) and then three hour nap followed by an hour in the paddling pool. Had to get him out as he was shivering! Wrapped in a towel on the sofa watching 'trains' (Thomas) now. What a lovely day.
