Oh he is cute! We are having a bit of a bedtime regression, for months be has been going to bed beautifully with no fuss (and we had certainly waited long enough) but this week there has been lots of yelling of 'mummy'. If I don't go back he cries but if I do he wants to play and chat. It had been going so well!

polkadotdelight · 11/07/2016 19:19

Yep bedtimes have gone tits up again. Its been at least six months since Ive had to lie on the floor and mumsnet from under the cot!

TeamEponine · 11/07/2016 20:20

Oh no, polka, that's awful! How long has this been happening for? Any chance it's a temporary thing due to teething or growth spurt? How are daytime naps?

polkadotdelight · 11/07/2016 20:37

Its only been for the last 4-5 nights, he stands rattling the side of the cot and shouting 'mummy, mummy, mummy'. Last night DH went in and told him Id gone to work so he lay down and went to sleep! DH is on nights tonight however!!! It has coincided with a sudden burst in language and lots of shouting (him not me!).

TeamEponine · 11/07/2016 21:11

It might be a temporary thing due to a cognitive leap? Apparently when they have these leaps their brains are buzzing so much they can't switch off.

Hopefully that is it and soon things will be back to normal!

When DD did something similar I did the go in, lie them down, say "sleepy time, night night" and then leave the room. After the first couple of times, just do it in silence and then stop eye contact a few more times later. The first night I was on, out and straight back in again about a squillion times! But the next night it only took about ten minutes, and after a few days she was back to normal.

Might something like that work for you?

polkadotdelight · 11/07/2016 21:28

Ive been trying it but even the first time I leave he starts to cry (crocodile tears lol) so Im hoping its just a phase but of course don't want to start new/bad habits.

He is a clever litte bugger though. Last week at Mums he ate all the strawberries and asked for more (second to 'no' his favourite word is more!) so he kept pointing to the front door and repeating 'car, shop'! He can drive me nuts and make me so proud at the same time!

How is everyone else getting on. Its getting very quiet here

TeamEponine · 11/07/2016 21:38

Aw, that's so clever! DD donetimes says things that totally amaze me. She's such a chatterbox.

We are having some "no" issues. DD seems to think it makes it all ok if she instead says "no... Thank you"! She said to DH the other day "daddy, daddy, sit down here... NOW... Please!" It's so difficult not to laugh sometimes!

KitKat1985 · 13/07/2016 09:06

Ahh so lovely to hear about your chatterboxes. I can't wait until DD starts talking properly and stringing a few words together.

Polka hopefully the sleep thing is temporary like Team says. With DD we literally just put her to bed and leave, and she normally babbles to herself for ages (maybe half an hour or more) before she settles to sleep. I keep wondering when we are going to have to take the cot sides off. I'm really reluctant to do so because I don't trust her to stay in bed!

In other news on Amazon Prime day yesterday we got DD one of these in preparation for her birthday: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B018Y22H9C/ref=gw_KET_1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=desktop-hero-kindle-B&pf_rd_r=V9V67DREEACKG60XR5PC&pf_rd_t=Gateway&pf_rd_p=add27d13-5abc-43c0-a86f-87bf429fa694&pf_rd_i=desktop
I can't believe I've actually just bought a tablet to give a 2 year old (I'm nearly 31 and I don't have a tablet)! But I figure she plays games with mine and DH's phones most days, so it'll probably be nice for her to have something that is her own to play games on (and selfishly me and DH can get our phones back with hopefully less chance that DD will end of breaking one of them). Also it was 30% off yesterday (I love a bargain)!

TeamEponine · 13/07/2016 12:53

OH, Jay, I missed the picture of your DS. He's such a cutie! Looking so grown up too.

Polka - how are bedtimes going?

Kitkat - that tablet looks fab! DD occasionally plays on my iPad, which I do find a little scary as she is not exactly delicate with it. No idea what to get her for her birthday yet. It may be time to start building up a Brio train set, although I'm not entirely sure whether that would really be for DD or DH?!

FATEdestiny · 13/07/2016 14:28

I'll be getting DD a balance bike for her second birthday. Got to be organised with 4 September birthdays in the house including my 40th (eek!)

DD will now repeat back any word I say to her, like she's practicing it. Some sounds are clearly difficult for her. Her brothers name is Euan which she says consistently as "wee-nan". We should correct her but we all think Weenan is adorable when she says it!

I get some long sentences from her now. Simple language still, but she's good at connecting words to make conversation.

Our "mine" phase has passed now, it didn't really last long but coincided with a language leap - like she was learning the power of her words.

We've got the kids kindle Kitkat. In fact "kindle" has been in DDs vocabulary for a while now. Shows the disparity between me being PFB with my eldest pair - they were not allowed any tech whatsoever until aged 7. DD isn't even 2 and knows her way around a tablet. That would have horrified my judgey pants with my firstborn. Ha!

Zanashar · 13/07/2016 15:59

Jay, what a cutie your little DS is!

DD is a chatterbox too and often has conversations with her cuddly toys and dolls ( no idea what what she's saying most of the time though!). She can string a few words together now and again ( mummy, in the bed!, at bedtime ) and understands a lot more than she can say.

Lots of crocodile tears here too. She can have a full on melt down at the drop of a hat and if it isn't pandered to, or is distracted with something, she soon stops.

She's also a little, more clingy than usual with myself and DH, ( which we love,).

Oh, and I had a BFP on Monday.........which was planned but still a surprise as we thought we had missed the window last month!

KitKat1985 · 13/07/2016 16:55

Ahh massive congrats Zanashar! Grin When does that make your due date?

All being well, (and baby being co-operative!), I should find out on Friday if I'm having a boy or girl this time around. Can't wait!

cookielove · 13/07/2016 17:51

Congratulations zan ooh another new baby for the thread, at this rate I will be the last to ttc again (which I am fine with lol)

kit ooh so exciting! Do you have a preference?

E is getting better with words but still not brilliant, my friend who has premature boys is worried about theit development, checked with her specialist and he said as long as they have 8 words by there corrected 2nd birthday then no worries!

FATEdestiny · 13/07/2016 18:07

Aww congratulations Zana!

MyGreenSofa · 13/07/2016 18:43

Congratulations Zana!

Ooo KitKat that will be exciting, to see if your DD will have little brother or sister!

DH and I are TTC again now too. We were very relaxed about it last time and just seeing what came along and DD turned up before long. It feels much more official this time though and I'm trying to keep myself calm and not get too carried away with it!

TeamEponine · 13/07/2016 19:09

Yay! Congrats Zana Flowers

How are people getting on with teeth brushing? DD was so cooperative but she is now a total nightmare. It wasn't quite so bad when she just refused to open her mouth, I could still get in there. But now she's worked out a far more effective strategy of sticking her tongue out Hmm Really struggling to get her teeth brushed now.

Oh, maybe she'd get on well with a scooter?! She has a little trike thing already.

TeamEponine · 13/07/2016 19:10

Good luck with ttc cookie and green!

CumbrianExile · 13/07/2016 19:11

Congrats Zana.
How exciting KitKat hope the baby plays ball.
Good Luck GreenSofa
We won't be ttc for at least another year. I would love to now, but financially we just couldn't afford child care for two at the moment.
We have had a lot of crocodile tears recently. I tend to ignore, but on a cramped delayed place back from Ireland on Monday it was very difficult. Especially when he threw his dummy (it was past his bed time and I hoped it would sleep) at the girls in the row behind.

polkadotdelight · 13/07/2016 19:37

Wow, huge congrats Zana and you have to tell us when you know kitkat.

Bedtimes are getting better, he is still taking a long time to go off to sleep but as long as I slip out of the room before DH we seem to get away with it.

No idea what to buy for his birthday. I had considered a balance bike but his brain goes faster than his feet and he gets clumsy when he is tired meaning he has had a number of bangs. Im worried what he could do to himself on a balance bike.

Lota of flexing this week, food throwing, 'no's', etc! Teeth brushing had started to become easier but thats gone now too! Good job he is cute!

jaykay34 · 13/07/2016 19:57

Congrats zana, that's brilliant news !

We are also experiencing the "mine", "no", "my way" and "no way" stage. Accompanied by the throwing and crazy tantrums !

His language is really coming on and he's starting to know his own mind. He already is a bit of a practical joker, and I think his sense of humour comes from having a teenage brother and sister.

We have also had a sleep regression - not that the sleeping has ever been perfect. It's the getting to sleep that he struggles with now - so it's comforting that lots of us seem to be going through the same issue.

Polka we were also thinking about a balance bike. Not so sure now I've read your worries...it could be quite dangerous !

jaykay34 · 13/07/2016 20:07

team Regarding teeth brushing...J used to be so good, then he decided he wanted to do it himself - but would still let me assist. He actually asks to brush his teeth as soon as we go in the bathroom. Recently he has decided that he doesn't need my help - but doesn't want to brush them either - just suck the bristles ! It's another thing that was once easy, that has now become a tantrum trigger and usually ends up with him throwing the toothbrush and screaming "No".

KitKat1985 · 16/07/2016 20:14

Oh god yes. DD won't let me brush her teeth at all. She will take the toothbrush off me to try to do it herself but all she does is suck the bristles. Sigh. I think I might try and register her with a dentist soon and try and take her for the first time. Maybe they can give me some advice.

Scan on Friday all went well. And we're having another girl! :)

FATEdestiny · 16/07/2016 21:41

A daughter! That's fantastic Grin

TeamEponine · 16/07/2016 21:42

Yay! Congrats Kitkat. How lovely Flowers

Teeth brushing is just a nightmare! I can sometimes convince her to let me do it so she can hear the brushing noise, and she gets to have her turn after I'm all done. It does sometimes end up with tears and me wrestling her into it!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

FATEdestiny · 17/07/2016 10:25

To buck the trend, "shall we go and brush your teeth?" Is often the hook that gets her going upstairs to bed. She gets so excited about brushing her teeth!

We have two tooth brushes - hers and mine (she can choose which is which) and usually both tooth brushes are in her mouth at the same time.

She also likes that she gets to sit on the bathroom sideboard for teeth brushing. None of her siblings are allowed to do this so it makes her 'special'. Bless.
