Another vote for metanium here for nappy rash.

We were up every 1-2 hours most of the night but did have a 3hour stretch at the start of the night and crib-sleep between feeds so I'll take that.

time I know everyone's already said it but definitely try to get out for a stroll if you can. Glad she gave you some rest last night. Do you have the tv/radio on in the day when you try to settle her? My DH has a theory that babies settle better when you forget you're trying to settle them...so read something on your phone or watch the tv etc whilst rocking them - you are then more relaxed and they are too.

So we are day 1 solo today...feeling smug as have managed to walk to preschool and school in good time with DS in the caboo, including taking a friend's child as well. Also walked to shops to get cash and got back home, put on washing and changed over dishwasher. Now basking in my achievements and having a cuppa whilst feeding watching homes under the hammer Grin

Purpleprickles · 12/04/2016 10:13

Magpie I love homes under the hammer Smile but am catching up on Marcella which I'm not sure if I like. Well done on being so bloody organised!!

Another vote for metanium here too.

Well E fed again at 6 and then slept on and off with lots of grunting. Her wind seems to be constant but she is able to bring it up there's just so much of it. I gave in and had a shower at 8 when she was awake but calm. I put Ellie Goulding on my phone so she would have some background noise, came back from the shower and she'd gone to sleep cheeky cow! Hmm Still it gave me time for a coffee and breakfast.

Me624 · 12/04/2016 10:28

I'm watching homes under the hammer too! It's become part of my daily routine if we're home!

I'm feeling anxious today, not about DS but just generally. I'm worried about DH who is very stressed with work at the moment. He is struggling with tiredness (even though I do the night feeds during the week) and has a lot of difficult projects on. Every night he comes home and says he hates his job and doesn't want to do it anymore. His timing couldn't be worse with me on mat leave! I'm concerned he's going to do something rash like quit leaving us in a right mess!

Timetogrowup2016 · 12/04/2016 10:30

Right.
I'm going to sterilise some bottles, put little one in bouncer and shower then we are going out, all day! She needs sleep poor mite she's shattered and keeps waking trying to pass wind bless her cottons. Took me 15 minutes n I got one small burp just now. Where shall I feed bubba when out though ? And is gripe water any good?

BeautifulLiar · 12/04/2016 11:03

magpie that's fantastic, enjoy your cuppa and HUTH! I used to watch it when I had DS but not since we've had to do school runs! Love Martin :)

time could you feed in cafes? I so nearly stopped in a posh cafe to feed Nancy the other day, but didn't as it would've cost a bomb feeding all the DC in there!

me you're right, that's not great timing! Can he look for jobs in the meantime? DH was a miserable bastard when he had a job he hated so you have my sympathies!

I've just had my gel nails done with Nancy in tow... she cried lots! I did feel quite guilty but we're home now and she's having a big feed while I eat brownies

We're meant to be going to the breastfeeding baby group at 12. They cook you paninis and everything. But I really can't be arsed. I'm sure we'll go though, as I don't want my anxiety to start this time...

QforCucumber · 12/04/2016 11:04

time feed her anywhere, I'm bf and if we go into town will go into the local m&s cafe to feed as know they are accepting of it. If you're bottle feeding stopping anywhere, cafe, bench (if the weather is nice) even a bus stop would be fine!

Rory was awake hourly last night, but then slept 7am-10:15 am so would have been rude not to join him. Grin

RhubarbAndMustard · 12/04/2016 11:16

Haven't been on for a while as our internet was down so have just caught up on all your posts.

Me thank you for the wedding tips. I wonder if DS1 will be harder than J. Will remember to take lots of back up outfits, etc.

Time feed anywhere you can sit down! I find that being out and about makes J sleep so you might not even need to.

Sorry to hear all the bad nights. J has outgrown his Moses basket already so he is now in the crib. We've had a couple of bad nights where he is not used to all the space or the swinging motion. He is also much more awake during the day and has his witching hours around 5-8pm when he's really hard work. I do think the Gaviscon is working though as he isn't feeding as crazy as before.

Timetogrowup2016 · 12/04/2016 11:26

Hi.
Thanks. I'm planning to stay out for a good portion of the day. Going to change/try to feed her before we go soon and hope that she falls asleep in the pram.
Oh took her out last night and she only fell asleep on the last part of the walk for 15 minutes.
She's in her swing chair now and is sleeping. I suspect she feels more comfy sitting up right if she has wind.
Any gripe water reviews here? We've been using infacol and it doesn't seem to be helping her burp at all. I use tommee tipppee bottles and keep the teat full to try to prevent air been swallowed but it's so hard.

I do keep the tv during the day. I don't try to make it quiet for her.

Rhu- Calais hasn't outgrown hers but we did buy a coat and she will settle in it sometimes and sometimes not.

I hate using the chair because of her little back though but what can I do when she desperately needs sleep?

Paperblank · 12/04/2016 13:48

Time Gripe water is great stuff (we use Woodwards but there are other ones if you don't get on with that particular one) Martha burps better than her Daddy when we give her that Grin We give it her through a syringe rather than off a spoon and she takes it better than she ever took infacol.

As regards sleeping M wasn't keen on her crib initially so I bought a Sleepyhead:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00ACK676E/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1460464380&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=sleepyhead&dpPl=1&dpID=31wnUkxk-kL&ref=plSrch

I cannot fault it. We've had it since M was 2 weeks old and we've not had a bad night since we've had it. Obviously she wakes for feeds but she goes straight down and sleeps brilliantly in it. They aren't cheap but I wouldn't be without it (and we will be getting the bigger one in a few months time.

Me I know where you're coming from re stressed DH. Mine has an exam today as he's going through a promotion process at work. He's had a really shit few days; short staffed, auditors are in, been assaulted and has had to restrain nearly every prisoner on his wing. It's really hard because I can't say or do anything to make it better Sad

Been for our 6 week check up today and apparently M isn't smiling as much as she should be and the dr wasn't happy that she was focusing as she should be load of bloody rubbish, she's fine M wasn't overly happy at being prodded and poked so got her revenge by doing a massive poo on the Dr's couch and then weeing all over the scales!

dobbythedoggy · 12/04/2016 13:55

time while I think about it have discovered eddy brings up loads of wind when I walk quickly up the stairs with him draped over my shoulder.

Must attempt to put E down and help dh make the place presentable for our inspection tomorrow.

Timetogrowup2016 · 12/04/2016 15:04

Thanks for the winding tip.
Well I made it out. I took a walk along the seafront and she slept for 1 hour 30. Then we caught the bus and she woke up hungry damp! Despite feeding before we left.
Bus journey was 45 minutes and I managed to feed her on It but nearly got off as I didn't feel very safe having her out the pram on the bus and now she's sleeping and without a swaddle to! That very rarely happens so she can do it bless her she's so tired after not sleeping a lot yesterday.
I'm sitting in a cafe now having a cup of tea. Hoping to feed/change her here and meet oh at 5:30 from work.

Does anyone else find when out and about people comment on their babies I keep getting "aww shes lovely. How old" etc whilst I don't mind but no one used to talk to me before c came along.

I have been thinking about a sleepyhead paper. Hmm now to convince oh it's worth a try. It's her startle reflex that wakes her up so we swaddle her mostly but I'm wondering if that could help her and save us swaddling

There are a few on ebay, but depending on how big Calais is you might be better going for the grand rather than the deluxe...Martha is 9lb, and will probably only be in the deluxe for another 2 - 3 months.

RhubarbAndMustard · 12/04/2016 15:21

Well done Time! Super cute picture too. People love to talk to you when you have a baby. I really like it.

I've just been to the garden centre and put J in the trolly in his car seat. He was surrounded by shrubs and looked very cute. I got lots of comments like 'he's the prettiest flower' and 'did you find him in the cabbage patch'. Wish I'd taken a photo actually. Here is a picture of what I bought instead. Grin Love garden centre shopping!!

March 2016: the one where Indomitable gives birth...
Timetogrowup2016 · 12/04/2016 15:26

She was 7 pound nine ounces last week. Thank you will look

Timetogrowup2016 · 12/04/2016 15:44

She woke for a feed done the loudest burp I've ever heard the whole cafe laughed lol

CharleytheFrenchPoodle · 12/04/2016 16:05

Glad you've managed to get out for the day time, hope it's helped both you and Calais.
Today has been a trial. Eleanor seems to have hit this growth spurt a few of you have mentioned and wanted feeding every hour/ hour and a half. When she didn't want feeding, she'd catnap for a bit and just wants to be held the rest of the time. Which would be fine if I didn't have DD1 here to try and entertain as well. I was planning to try and get out today but it's just not happened with one thing and another. DD1 has consequently been bored and acted up because of it (including drawing on the walls Angry). CBeebies has done most of the parenting today for DD1 which I feel guilty about Sad
DH is home in an hour and I've volunteered to go and do the weekly shop, just to get out of the house and away from it all for an hour. I look like the walking dead as I only had 4 hours sleep (11.30-1.30 and 2.30-4.30) but I'm past caring how I look at the moment!

Paperblank · 12/04/2016 18:19

charley I have a velcro baby too. Martha has screamed everytime I've put her in her bouncy chair. It's hard enough just managing with her, so I take my hat off to you.

I look like crap - in the pre baby days I was quite well groomed, nowadays if I manage to clean my teeth in the morning I consider that a major achievement!

MrsBenWyatt · 12/04/2016 18:31

Calais is gorgeous Time

Very jealous of your trip to the garden centre Rhu

Had a busy day today. Took DD to school and then took DS1 and Ted to playgroup. Then we walked to a cafe and took my niece (2) as well. Walked home in the rain and then collected DD before making tea. Now feeding Ted while DH takes DD to stage society. Thank goodness for the Caboo sling - I don't know how I'd go anywhere without it!

It's DS1's third birthday tomorrow, so need to wrap his presents - he's asked for a Star Wars lunchbox and a My Little Pony Grin

Me624 · 12/04/2016 19:10

MrsBen bless your DS he sounds so cute!

Time I'm glad you got out today, I hope you feel better for it. Have you got any other mums with babies locally you can meet up with? Just having someone to share the pain with makes such a difference! If you don't know anyone already, I really recommend you look into groups locally where you can meet other mums. I did NCT and met some lovely ladies there but I know there are tons of free or very low cost groups run by my local children's centre.

Having been smug that DS is not much of a crier he seems determined to prove me wrong these last couple of days 😥 He screamed all of yesterday evening until we gave him a dummy and today I just gave him a bath and he then screamed afterwards for no apparent reason. I did manage to settle him this time and he's now down in his Moses basket for a sleep but I don't think he'll stay down long as he's due a feed. I really hope we don't have another evening like last night, it was so draining!

Poppins27 · 12/04/2016 19:25

Aw Mrsben your DS sounds adorable!!! My Dd is obsessed with My Little Ponys...finally replaced her obsession with dinosaurs and dragons!

Time sounds like a very successful day, well done!! I hope it's increased your confidence and I hope you get out and about more often.

Paper im a bit worried now, we have our 6 week check on Friday and DS is not smiling at all...well one or two 'maybe' smiles but nothing convincing or regular?!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 12/04/2016 19:38

Hi all, thanks for all the recommendations for nappy rash. stupidly haven't been on MN all day and went to the pharmacy and bought bepanthan before I saw you all had recommended metanium... fail!

I tried out my manduca carrier with E today - am loving it! Have been using the close caboo so far and although I like it, I find the excess fabric a bit annoying so thought I'd try out the manduca which is more structured but still soft and with a newborn insert so baby's hips are positioned correctly. Was very pleased with it so will probably move onto that now.

Had an awful night last night, spoke far too soon in saying it hadn't been too bad as she was only feeding for 15 mins or so as she woke up every hour from 3.45! However she's also been feeding frequently today, so my new theory is she's feeding more frequently to make up for the diarrhea she has. We've only got a day and a half more of giving her the antibs thankfully. I had some on my hand today and absent mindedly licked it off - it's gross! It smells like calpol so I was assuming it would be sweet but it's horrible and bitter. No wonder she's been spitting it out!

Glad you managed to get out and about time.

And Cake to my fellow sleep deprived mums and to those suffering with screaming babies/growth spurts

CharleytheFrenchPoodle · 12/04/2016 19:45

It's bloody hard when they don't want to be put down isn't it paper? I don't know where this has come from, she's always been able to settle for at less an hour or two if not more (on rare occasions!). She's slso just brought her milk back up for the second time today Sad
I'm so impressed with you Mrs, with your busy day out! I really want to get a sling as I think that will help a lot and I've heard the caboo mentioned a few times, would people recommend it? The only problem I've got is Nella has got a scan on Friday as one of her hips had a click at birth and the community midwife told me not to put her in a sling unless everything went ok with the scan, so am keeping my fingers crossed everything will be fine!

CharleytheFrenchPoodle · 12/04/2016 19:49

Ooh posted before I saw marmite's post. Haven't heard of the manduca before. I never used a sling with DD1 so have no idea what's good. My SIL uses nothing but slings for her DS and has lent us a baby bjorn but she's still too small for that, and it looks more like one I'd wear out rather than round the house.

MyNameIsSuz · 12/04/2016 19:54

Glad to hear you got out time, I'm very jealous of your walk on the seafront - we're in Oxfordshire, which is as far from the sea as it's possible to get!

I noticed today that Sylvie had a white tongue and everything fell into place - ever since I had those antibiotics she's been so unsettled, windy, fussy at the breast, feeding all the time and I've had really sore nipples. Apparently antibiotics can give babies oral thrush, and the doctor confirmed it. Urgh! I have some medicine to dropper into her four times a day, but reading up on it to see what else I can be doing, I wonder if I should have been given some cream for me too. Surely it'll just pass back and forth otherwise? So I might have to go back tomorrow, but I'll drop into the pharmacy first and see what they say. I feel like feeding was just getting comfortable, now it's all painful again.

First preschool run tomorrow, I'm hoping we get a bit more sleep tonight as last night's 3 hour total was horrendous and I couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning.

MyNameIsSuz · 12/04/2016 19:59

charley, if dd has hip problems I'd avoid the Bjorn as the baby's position in those isn't great. Something like the caboo, a stretchy wrap or an ergo type sling will hold their legs in the froggy position which is recommended for their hips and could actually help if there is an issue.
