Hi ladies, thanks Indom for the suggestion of me starting a new thread. Seeing as Zach and myself have been knocking about on antenatal since November it will be lovely to have you all joining us shortly in the baby, rather than pregnancy conversations! Bring on the March babies!!!!

Charley they only work if you're body is ready to go into labour anyway. They won't kick start something that wasn't going to happen, if that makes sense. I attempted a DIY one last night Blush

Me624 · 26/02/2016 17:00

Charley I'm a first time mum but from what I've been told it's exactly like it sounds - midwife inserts two fingers into your cervix and has a poke around! To try and break the membranes and get things moving. Apparently I won't be offered one here until 41 weeks but every area seems to be different.

Just had a very nice afternoon nap! I can happily fill my days like this if baby me does go overdue, it's just the not knowing when it's going to happen that I don't like.

ffauxlivia · 26/02/2016 17:02

Hi everyone, slight TMI/grossness warning ....

I had a 36 week appt today and they do tests for Group B strep (routine here) which involves a swap in the vagina and up the bum! I was slightly nervous about my lovely, handsome male doctor doing this as we have built up such a good relationship over the last year and he hasn't really done many internals, so it feels a bit more weird than a stranger doing it!

Anyway I also tend to get so worked up before any appointments (always worried about bad news) that I often get a runny tummy. So of course minutes before my appointment I had the big D!! I was so mortified to present him with a dirty bum that I spent ages trying to wash and scrub clean my arse in the doctor's toilets, it was probably so red and obvious! Blush Not a pleasant experience! And the cervix exam was ouchy, which makes me feel like I'm going to be a total wuss in labour.

But anyway all is good, baby is head down, he wasn't concerned that she's slightly diagonal or back to back. She's very high up though and cervix is clamped shut, so I think I'm in this for the long haul! I really think I'll be the last on here

Have your instincts been correct with your previous births - did you just get a feeling that you were going to be late/early?

beaut glad you got your date - it might be another '9th' baby! And Grin to DIY sweeps - you are a braver woman than me!

trijo high five for the birthing centre delivery!

Crispylicious · 26/02/2016 17:23

ff I did the gbs swabs myself earlier this week! Here you have to pay privately for the test, but can at least do them in your own home. The bum one was utterly disgusting. I was convinced they'd send it back Blush But they didn't, so guess it's normal for it to be gross. Anyway I got the result today and it's positive. I had it last time so not surprised, but we've moved hospitals and they don't routinely give you the iv antibiotics here, so I'm going to have a fight on my hands for them...

Good news is the baby's head down and 3/5ths engaged! So that's a relief. He's back to back but so was DD, who was turning during labour, until they fully turned her with the ventouse and yanked her out!

CharleytheFrenchPoodle · 26/02/2016 17:29

Thanks me and beautiful- that was the sort of image I'd had in my mind but just wanted to be sure! I'm not actually sure when they'll be offered here- the midwife didn't mention anything when she said about booking the 38 week appointment, but then, she thought I might have delivered by then so maybe she thought it wasn't worth mentioning!

QforCucumber · 26/02/2016 17:31

charley it's exactly as me said, the reason I didn't particularly like it was because she said Ooo your cervix is high and basically felt like she was rooting about in there haha, felt the swirling of her finger too - most odd. Dp has now decided that there is no sex to be had as I told hI'm when midwife was 'in there' she exclaimed 'oh yes baby's head is very low I'm almost touching it' and as he's certain his bits are longer than her fingers then it'll be to weird hahahah.

ffaux please accept my apologies but I just laughed a lot at your trauma, definitely can understand why you'd be red faced (and red bummed)

ffauxlivia · 26/02/2016 17:44

haha Q no need to apologise, happy to provide light relief. I do realise I need to get over my squeamishness about internals and poo related stuff, knowing what can happen on the birthing bed!

Oh no sorry about the positive test crispy. According to the medical people here, if you test positive but don't have the antibiotics during labour, then baby has 1 in 200 chance of developing it. So risks are still very low, but yeah given the complications possible I would be pushing for it too. Good luck, be firm!

maybebabybee · 26/02/2016 18:27

I did the gbs tests myself privately too...came back negative. Crispy that's annoying, why wouldn't they give you the antibiotics?!

IndomitabIe · 26/02/2016 18:29

Afternoon all,

Thanks for the sympathy, I was feeling so sorry for myself yesterday. DH is back on form today so I've got some time to myself while they play old Nintendo!

Thanks for the insight, sher. Sounds like hard work with your two. BrewThanksChocolateCake (I'm glad I'll have boys, and also need to get a second shower put in!)

Shock to Beaut's self-cervix checking! I'm also surprised about the contracting resulting in nothing, given your history! Curry for dinner?!

Q, I've never had a sweep but they don't sound at all pleasant! Hopefully yours will have done something though.

Tri, congrats on your last day, glad you're cleared for the birth centre!

Ooh, that sounds all shades of grim, ffaux! I (and the midwives) was convinced I'd have DS early as I'd had such organised and regular BHs for so long. But he came at 40+3 in the end. So no, instincts way off!

Woodenmouse · 26/02/2016 18:54

I'm getting some quite sharp pains this evening!! Fingers crossed he will be making an appearance soon!!

MrsBenWyatt · 26/02/2016 19:52

Exciting, Woodenmouse. Hope it's a good sign.

I am in bed eating custard Blush.

DH has booked a deep clean of the house for while I am in hospital next week, so I am very excited about coming back to a (hopefully) sparkling home! Grin

BeautifulLiar · 26/02/2016 19:54

Just don't Indom, I'm so cross about it! Maybe because I'm only 38 weeks? Would be amaaaazing to go into labour before the induction!

Oh ffaux, bless you, i'd have fucking died.

Keep us updated wooden!

BeautifulLiar · 26/02/2016 19:54

Ooh MrsBen I've booked one for when I'm in hospital too! Great minds think alike eh Wink

Woodenmouse · 26/02/2016 19:56

Mrsben I'm very jealous!! I don't think my dh would think of something like that!!

BeautifulLiar · 26/02/2016 19:58

Mine wouldn't either wooden, that's why I booked it!

MrsBenWyatt · 26/02/2016 20:27

Ha! Beaut!!!

Woodenmouse book one! We deserve it! They do all the things that I can never face doing, like skirting boards, picture rails, tops of cupboards Blush. We used to have a cleaner and the company did a deep clean whenever we went on holiday (until they stopped working in our town) so I am hoping that this is the first step to getting a new cleaner (with 3 DC and working F/T, I won't be doing it).

shieldbug · 26/02/2016 20:47

Ooh, a deep clean; sounds wonderful. Trouble is, I'd spend so long cleaning before the cleaner came, just so I wouldn't be embarrassed by the state of the house that it would be counter productive anyway iyswim.

Good luck wooden; hope this is the start for you.

mrsben and sher (and others suffering in the same way) I've started to get some "fake contractions" too; different to BH but of no use whatsoever. With ds2 this started on the Friday and finally ramped up on Weds when he was born. Fx we all get our babies soon!

Well, after my dizziness earlier in the week turns out my iron levels are fine now and they couldn't find anything wrong. It has all been passed off as "overdoing things" trouble is with 2ds there really isn't any other option! Dh is doing his best to help where he can, but he's tiring himself out too. Really just need to have this baby soon and get some energy back.

IndomitabIe · 26/02/2016 21:12

Sorry Beaut. Thanks

MrsBen that's genius! Very tempting. Though I'd have to tidy the house properly first. (Lol, just got to Shieldbug's post!)

Woodenmouse · 26/02/2016 21:46

I'm so tempted to do it!! I dream of having a cleaner!!

Trinpy · 26/02/2016 23:11

Great news on being okayed to use the birth centre Tri.

I don't think I could cope with having a relative give me a sweep sher Shock! I'm in the 'let nature take its course' camp too I think. Or maybe I just don't like people messing around with my cervix. It doesn't sound pleasant so I would definitely like to avoid if poss!

Oh no ffaux! I'm cringing for you! I'm sure the doctor's seen worse...

Hope this is the start of something for you woodenmouse.

MrsBen I don't know whether I'm more jealous of you having the deep clean booked or being in bed by 7pm eatingcustard. Both excellent ideas. I did say I would book a cleaner for the first six weeks after the baby's due but I still haven't got round to organising it.

shield I have so much respect for you (and others on here) who are doing all this pregnancy stuff with 2+ DC to look after. It must be knackering.

Dh has been stressing me out massively today. He got a new job last month; a week ago he came home saying he was fed up there and he was going to quit in the morning. I managed to talk him round and got him to actually try and solve the problems he had there first (radical approach there, I know Hmm). I thought things had improved but he had a huge argument with his manager today and was convinced he was going to get fired. So I spent all bloody afternoon glancing at my phone waiting for bad news until I eventually got a text from him saying they'd smoothed things over and it was all fine. I don't want to sound horribly unsupportive but I could really do without the drama at the moment. And I have yet another bad cold so I'm doubly grumpy .

ffauxlivia · 26/02/2016 23:20

woodenmouse how's it going? It's early evening here so happy to settle in in you fancy live blogging Wink

Ah trinpy that's annoying of your DH - the last thing you need right now. Bloody men, eh?! Hope it's all calmed down now and he can stick the job out until you guys are settled with baby at least!

Woodenmouse · 27/02/2016 03:36

ffauxlivia he's decided he's not ready after all and its all gone very quiet! Fingers crossed for the morning!!

ffauxlivia · 27/02/2016 04:20

wooden fingers crossed, try and get some rest whilst you can!

Missdee2014 · 27/02/2016 04:38

Early morning csc update from me. Final growth scan yesterday showed baby is pretty much not growing. He's gained 4oz approx in the last 3 weeks so I'm back in the morning for an examination and if favourable a sweep followed by booking in for induction early next week. I'm 38 weeks today so best to get him out now rather than keep him in when it's clearly not doing any good having him still in there.

I'm going to have a ready of everyone else's updates now n if I'm still awake ill try n respond. So tired and feeling a little anxious now about the possible sweep in the morning. Said earlier in my pregnancy j would defo be refusing a sweep if offered as had one before and was useless but I just want this wee tiny out now so we can fatten him up at home on mamas milk!
