Morning! My daily update whilst holding sleeping child who won't sleep in cot past 5am (5:30 today - progress!). So many wake ups I can't count. I'm going to have to sleep train when he's 6 months aren't I :(
So a day in the life of us - replacing one breastfeed a day with formula is going ok. He took 9oz first day but yesterday we were in coffee shop and he was distracted so was silly and then threw it up. Bum.
Solids so far - none.
Solids I've bought with intention of preparing and freezing - loads.
Time to do this - zero
Today we have little notes class then a play date at a friends house. Formula feed will be at friends house, hope it goes ok. I'm finding it's made the subsequent day feeds easier as he's not fussing so much.
He's sleeping well in cot first half of night, but second half is shite.
How is everyone? Feeding of newborns is knackering so j really feel for you guys JC and pud it does get easier I promise!
I have to say I think it's never too early to make the distinction clear with them about day/ night. We did stuff early with B like opening curtains at 7am and keeping it noisy and light during day, then drawing curtains, bath and grow bag on and quiet/ dark from 6 ish to show night. He has always slept a big chunk at the start of the night following bath and bedtime routine, which to me shows he knew the difference quite early. I just used to go to bed then and it at least meant I got a bit of sleep before the shit started. Circadian rhythms are an area of my expertise in animal biology but I don't know anything about them in human babies. Id be really interested to read about it if you come across the article again popz.
I've got hydrocortisone from when he had rash on tummy so I'll try that on back of knees, thank you!
The toe nail soreness has gone so one less thing to worry about!
Remember I said that he consultant paediatrician was sure B had reflux, that she thought that's why he choked and that she wanted to put him on ranitidine? We saw her just before Christmas and she has written a letter saying she still thinks that and thinks we should try medicating him for two weeks to see any difference. She thinks that his little cough (which I put down to dribble from teething) and his unsettled sleep ( normal baby?) are reflux related. I don't want to medicate unnecessarily. What do you guys think? Is it worth a try? I really don't think he has reflux but she seems adamant.
My new connecta arrived. I love it! I'm also trialling a rented moby aria. Ooh it's nice! I am taking all my slings to my friends today and all the girls from my baby group are coming yo try them on. They all don't have a group of viroids to hell with advice and all want to use slings but don't know how to start, so I offered to help them try my different ones on so they get the feel for it and can get a better idea about which one to choose. I'm really halo to help people get into slings as I love carrying B!
I drink a large glass of water after every feed dulcet. I didn't used to and was confused because some days my milk seemed less. Took me ages to make the connection between fluid in and fluid out. Doh!
B has been in 6-9 month clothes for a month. Every couple of weeks I weigh him and go through his clothes looking at the suggested weight limit and I put aside anything too small. There's a box under his cot with the larger clothes in it and I go through gag and pull out any that look like he'll be almost wearing. It's nice to get new choices every now and then! Also if I notice something's a bit snug I'll wash it and put it in the pile to be stored in loft. My baby is currently a giant 20lb at 5.5 months!
