Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 10th Just Mumming thread...following the trials and tribulations of our babies, following the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 43rd grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 56th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

The previous Just Mumming thread is HERE

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Yeah. She's awake now. Immediately after posting. Obviously.

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 11/01/2016 21:57

What's zoflora?

Argh, the hair loss. I can't believe there is still any on my actual head. It's insane.

We've had two vaguely decent nights here, in bed by 8, 3-4 night feeds but straight back off after each one and not up before 6:30 am. I can live with this!

Someone gave me a sing and sign DVD. There are no classes anywhere around here. Not looked at the DVD though. Might have a go tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder!

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 11/01/2016 21:59

pud don't know about the wine. I heard it takes an hour to metabolise out of your system so I didn't start having a glass til I could guarantee he would go that long between feeds.

Hobbit19 · 11/01/2016 23:34

...aaaaaand P has only just gone back to sleep. And may well wake back up in a minute She also managed to projectile vomit on us both, get through three nappies, wee on herself, have two complete costume changes and bite my nipple.

Note to self: stop being a nob and don't worry when the baby is asleep! Idiot!

Jcandy · 11/01/2016 23:44

Oh pud! She was just keeping you on your toes! Hope she sleeps well for you tonight now Smile

I have just been one giant boob all day. At least that's how it feels anyway. G's been wanting to feed every hour or and hasn't wanted to be put down this afternoon so I haven't really managed to get any sleep in. DP took her for an hour this evening so I could sleep but have a feeling that might be it now. She's wide awake and keeps grizzlies. Growth spurts are hard work!

LaLaLaaaa · 12/01/2016 06:26

Morning! My daily update whilst holding sleeping child who won't sleep in cot past 5am (5:30 today - progress!). So many wake ups I can't count. I'm going to have to sleep train when he's 6 months aren't I :(

So a day in the life of us - replacing one breastfeed a day with formula is going ok. He took 9oz first day but yesterday we were in coffee shop and he was distracted so was silly and then threw it up. Bum.
Solids so far - none.
Solids I've bought with intention of preparing and freezing - loads.
Time to do this - zero

Today we have little notes class then a play date at a friends house. Formula feed will be at friends house, hope it goes ok. I'm finding it's made the subsequent day feeds easier as he's not fussing so much.

He's sleeping well in cot first half of night, but second half is shite.

How is everyone? Feeding of newborns is knackering so j really feel for you guys JC and pud it does get easier I promise!

I have to say I think it's never too early to make the distinction clear with them about day/ night. We did stuff early with B like opening curtains at 7am and keeping it noisy and light during day, then drawing curtains, bath and grow bag on and quiet/ dark from 6 ish to show night. He has always slept a big chunk at the start of the night following bath and bedtime routine, which to me shows he knew the difference quite early. I just used to go to bed then and it at least meant I got a bit of sleep before the shit started. Circadian rhythms are an area of my expertise in animal biology but I don't know anything about them in human babies. Id be really interested to read about it if you come across the article again popz.

I've got hydrocortisone from when he had rash on tummy so I'll try that on back of knees, thank you!

The toe nail soreness has gone so one less thing to worry about!

Remember I said that he consultant paediatrician was sure B had reflux, that she thought that's why he choked and that she wanted to put him on ranitidine? We saw her just before Christmas and she has written a letter saying she still thinks that and thinks we should try medicating him for two weeks to see any difference. She thinks that his little cough (which I put down to dribble from teething) and his unsettled sleep ( normal baby?) are reflux related. I don't want to medicate unnecessarily. What do you guys think? Is it worth a try? I really don't think he has reflux but she seems adamant.

My new connecta arrived. I love it! I'm also trialling a rented moby aria. Ooh it's nice! I am taking all my slings to my friends today and all the girls from my baby group are coming yo try them on. They all don't have a group of viroids to hell with advice and all want to use slings but don't know how to start, so I offered to help them try my different ones on so they get the feel for it and can get a better idea about which one to choose. I'm really halo to help people get into slings as I love carrying B!

I drink a large glass of water after every feed dulcet. I didn't used to and was confused because some days my milk seemed less. Took me ages to make the connection between fluid in and fluid out. Doh!

B has been in 6-9 month clothes for a month. Every couple of weeks I weigh him and go through his clothes looking at the suggested weight limit and I put aside anything too small. There's a box under his cot with the larger clothes in it and I go through gag and pull out any that look like he'll be almost wearing. It's nice to get new choices every now and then! Also if I notice something's a bit snug I'll wash it and put it in the pile to be stored in loft. My baby is currently a giant 20lb at 5.5 months!

Pis my best mate just went back after a year too and says it's weird! Like never been away. How you getting on?

We want to move back home so we are trying to put plans in place. So I'll go back to work but I'm hoping to be home by next Christmas. Don't tell my work!

Dulcet cats sound stressed. Do they have an area where they can get away from baby? Do you have litter trays indoors - one more than number of cats? If so are they clean? You need to clean where they've pooed with a product that eliminates the smell otherwise they will keep doing it there. I can recommend some stuff if you like. Unfortunately it's classic stress behaviour. Zylkene could help or plug in Feliway. Feliway didn't help my stressy cats but zylkene does. Might be worth taking to vet also to get checked for no underlying health issues.

Pud in early days babies do sleep lots. Just go with the flow she will put herself into a rhythm and routine and you'll get to know her routine as time goes on.

Wine - personally I'd wait until a bit older as they are so wee and it's thought alcohol in breast milk can make them unsettled. But now I have a glass every few nights!

Morning. All ok here. Bit of a stressful day yesterday and PIL here last night but I find baby bedtime is perfect excuse for some quiet time on our own upstairs.

pud you'll find babypud starts spending more time awake and becomes more interactive gradually. I was disconcerted by all the sleeping. We had it for weeks and weeks where Melba was premature, she didn't really start to 'wake up' until around her actual due date.

So, nappies. Melba is pretty damp by the early morning wake up. She's in the same nappy from 8pm ish until at least 4am if not 6am depending on her nighttime wake ups. I went up a size to asda newborn size 3 but this doesn't seem to have helped and she's still rather soggy this morning. What is good for containment? Any recommendations? We are part time cloth bummers sounds dodgy during the day, but sticking with disposables overnight.

I'll be back later, going to get up and do some pumping whilst Melba is asleep.

Aldi mamia Rock!

OP posts:
RPopz · 12/01/2016 08:01

Loving all these mega updates La.... Gives me something to read while I'm drinking my coffee Grin

We use Aldi Mamia too toast. Minipopz went through a phase of being leaky and damp at night - we used pampers at bedtime for a while which seemed to contain him!

Think you answered your own question there Pud Grin Enjoy your sleepy newborn while it lasts.

I don't know if it matters how old they are if such small amounts of alcohol make it into the milk? Never really thought about though. Not sure when I started drinking again.

LaLaLaaaa · 12/01/2016 08:28

I know it's probably just my projection about them being small. I think I had a glass every now and then when he was wee

We are off to Dr again this morning - reflux and poo problems. I should get shares

OP posts:
Toast85 · 12/01/2016 08:36

I've generally felt that 1 small glass of wine isn't going to hurt but I do tend to err on the side of caution and only really have a very small glass. I also try to time it with feeds so I'll have it straight after a good feed when she's unlikely to want another one for at least an hour. Or spend all evening sipping it veeeery sloooowly. But I may be being over cautious!

DulcetMoans · 12/01/2016 08:43

We had a big issue with leaks toast but it's been better with pampers (bull bought from Costco!). Not tried Aldi but they are popular and award winning.

The alcohol level in breast milk is minimal pud. I read up before going out at Christmas. It peaks in the milk about 40mins after drinking and then takes an hour per unit to disappear. But as I said, it's minimal. Not sure what would be different for new born but it's a good question!

Hope you got a bit more than an hour jc! Growth spurts are hard but they just keep coming!

Sounds like sleep progress essie. Did you do anything different? Enjoy the DVD!

Don't know what the cats problem is really, the baby has been here 6 months so not sure why he would suddenly stress them out. They are happy to sit on my lap with him and let him stroke them. I'm not sure which one it is actually, I suspect the older one. They have their own area la, the utility bit where their bowl and beds are. They are shut in there at night and always have a tray. They share one though which is usually fine. I don't clean the area with anything other than water and zoflora(!). One is due the vets this month for boosters so see what they say. Today there is poo on the floor but it is half in the box so that could be poor positioning.

Hope the formula feed goes better today la!

I've woken up with a cold Sad made worse busy having no bloody sleep for six months. I have no reserves to build on!

Jcandy · 12/01/2016 09:02

I must be a terrible mum coz I had a glad of prosecco when G was just 15 hours old to toast her birth. Also had bucks fizz at christmas. Not loads mind!

Got a one hour block, 2 hour block and a couple of 20 minute sleeps so not too bad. She got overtired after her 2am feed and started screaming. DP had to take over to settle her (he's so good at it) but I feel a bit guilty and hope he's not too tired at work today.

It may be worth jut trying the reflux meds la you'll be able to tell in 2 weeks if it makes a difference and if not then stop them. If it does then great!

Maybe your cats just wanted to get in on the poo action dulcet so not helpful

Aren't cloth nappies and a ton of boosters supposed to be good at stopping leaks overnight toast?

purplewhale · 12/01/2016 09:53

Aldi mamia are the dogs, we use their wipes too as they have a plastic closing thing instead of a stupid sticky label thing!

B had his 2nd jabs today. He cried but then got over it. No MenB this time so no need for calpol so far Next lot in 4 weeks. So far he's been fine. I had to wake him up to take him though, poor boy...dragged out of his bed and stabbed in the leg twice!

Pisghetti · 12/01/2016 13:29

Another vote for Aldi mamia. Haven't had a wee leak for as long as I can remember and only get poo leaks when she does an explosive shit that no nappy could contain.

It's going ok La. There is this weird sense of not having been away. I have a new boss who seems lovely and she's been quite clear about what she'd like me to take over so I know what I'm doing for a change! We didn't have the best night's sleep last night (or any night) so I'm very tired - you know when you feel totes emosh just because you're tired? I'm managing to get through some work but I think if anyone popped their head round the door and asked how I am I'd probably sob.

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 12/01/2016 16:03

Spoke too soon re the sleep progress, we began the day at 5am today. It seemed to be dark forever and he was back down for his first nap before it was even light. I'd say roll on spring time but don't want to wish my mat leave away!

Re night time leaks, I found going up a nappy size helped and also using pampers baby dry at night. We did go through a phase though at about 6-8 weeks where he just weed so much I had to change him part way through the night. All that cluster feeding had to go somewhere! We don't have an Aldi anywhere near us sadly as everyone raves about their nappies. Might have to make a special trip!

RPopz · 12/01/2016 16:23

Love the idea of having a glass of fizz to toast the birth jc! Might put that in my birth plan for next time.... Wink

Hope B's ok purple. Minipopz has his 12m booster tomorrow Sad He's been in such a happy mood today too!

How'd it go at the Dr's La?

The mortgage company are fucking us around - they've suddenly decided we need to have a joint mortgage because we're married (7weeks in to the application!!). MrP has a shite credit history (hence why we've never had a joint mortgage) so bit worried we'll get declined and be stuck in our stupid tiny house forever. Which would also mean no more babies. Pissed off doesn't even cover it.

purplewhale · 12/01/2016 17:14

Mortgage companies are awkward bastards, thanks to them we can't do our extension til I'm back at work as my income is too low Angry

B has been absolutely fine today. He's slept on me a lot this afternoon but I can live with that. He keeps wriggling down so I had to put the recliner up to stop him ending up on the floor!

Essie hope you get more sleep tonight. We also increased the size overnight as he was growing out of size 2. I make a special trip to Aldi to buy nappies and wipes. I don't mind them for other stuff actually, their fish and steaks are good

DulcetMoans · 12/01/2016 17:14

How has B been the rest of the day purple?

Hope you've made it through the day tear free pis! Sounds like a good manager - at least you know where you are!

Ouch. The 5amwake up is killer essie. Bet you're ready for bed!

I am raging at that popz! Why does he have to be on it? Sod being married! Why can't you own a house without a man being involved? If you can afford the mortgage on your own why does he matter? Rebel!

Toast85 · 12/01/2016 17:24

We were in aldi size 2s before I bought the asda ones and we were needing a change in the night time, just wet, but I thought it was a size issue because we were right at the top/over the recommended weight guide. Maybe it's worth a 30min trip to aldi to stock up on some bigger ones! Or we'll try pampers.
Jc yes you can boost cloth nappies for night time but they become so big and bulky on her little bum I can't imagine it's comfy sleeping on all that. And we only have 10 reusable nappies so decided we would stick to daytime use only.
Purple hope B is ok. Melba was alright with her 2nd, not 100% but much better than the first set.
Popz hope that doesn't mess up your mortgage! When will you know?

So we have been struggling with daytime naps for a while, doing the whole feed to sleep then eyes pinging open the second I try to put her down. Well today I've been seeing friends and she's only had two catnaps in my arms (40mins and 15 mins) whilst I've been chatting to friends and two 20min snoozes in the car. So I got home, fed her and put her to bed in the dark... She needed a bit of help settling with cuddles from dh after that but she's now napping in her crib! Shame it's a bit late but I think it's progress. And I feel like a tit for not trying to put her down upstairs and in the dark before! Just hope she doesn't think it's actually night time already. Think I might be tempted to wake her at 6 if she doesn't wake before then, is that bad?

RPopz · 12/01/2016 17:37

Exactly Dulcet!! It's the most archaic sexist bullshit I've ever heard!! "Well we'd expect since you're married that it'd be a joint application and you'd share finances etc" Yes but WHY? Why do they expect that!? They've already said I can afford it on my own. They don't even want to take his affordability into the equation, they literally just want to a do a credit check on him so they can put his name on a piece of paper. So they're perfectly happy for just me to pay the mortgage. But if he has debts from before we even met then that is our JOINT problem. WTAF!? It was a long time ago so no idea it he'd pass the check or not. Someone senior is meant to be ringing me tomorrow.... Hmm

Good news on the nap toast - don't feel daft... Only occurred to me to put him in his cot and do a mini bedtime routine a few months ago and DS is 1! Blush
