Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 10th Just Mumming thread...following the trials and tribulations of our babies, following the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 43rd grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 56th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

The previous Just Mumming thread is HERE

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Why do you have to be back at work purple?? They should do calculations on your normal pay not your mat pay!

purplewhale · 12/01/2016 18:48

Nope they wouldn't! I tried to do it before I went off but they wouldn't hold back the money til we needed it. I also had to declare if my income was going to drop.
Im guessing the 3rd jabs will be rotten like 1st as they contain the MenB one. He's had a few runny nappies today which I think is rotavirus which he doesn't get next time

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 12/01/2016 21:18

We've got 3rd jabs tomorrow too.

Sorry about unreasonable mortgage companies. They'll always find a reason to make it more complicated than it should be. Angry

Hope everyone has some sleep and isn't up for the day too early! I'm hoping for a post 6am wake up. This morning was a killer.

Hobbit19 · 13/01/2016 03:42

RPopz, that is rubbish. I wonder if it would be the same rules if the man wanted to pay the mortgage? (Cynical). Have you tried more than one company? Could you argue that it is discrimination based on marital status? It may be worth talking to the CAB for advice?

JC, excellent work on the prosecco! Feels odd not to have toasted P's arrival with some fizz.

La, I've seen your post on FB. Hugs and Flowers. Does DH have any annual leave he can use so he can take over for a couple of days?

Jcandy · 13/01/2016 03:56

I know nothing about mortgages but that officially sucks, hope it doesn't stop you getting one!

I managed to settle G when she was screaming last night Smile so far only DP has been able to as I cant rock her for long enough with my bad back. But I held her and shushed her instead and it worked! Feels like a win coz she then slept for 2 and a half hours Smile

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 13/01/2016 05:24

Urgh, up at 4:45 with poo and snot. Guess I might have to cancel injections again if he's got another cold. Just attempting to feed back to sleep.

I've got a question re clothing in car seats. I know you are not supposed so put them in coats etc when in the car seat and use blankets but it's a total nightmare when we arrive at destination trying to put a snowsuit/ coat on a squirming baby in the car when the weather is wild outside. Especially for v short journeys. How do you deal with this?! DS seems more than happy to have coat/snowsuit etc applied at home but objects wildly about having it put on in car. It's like dressing an octopus.

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 13/01/2016 05:27

candy well done with the settling. DH was better at it than me in the early days too. Think sheer exhaustion meant I didn't have the stamina! It's v satisfying though isn't it when you find a trick that works!

Toast85 · 13/01/2016 06:43

Argh just wrote a post and lost it!
Essie I rarely bother with coat or pram suit any more as its too much of a faff. When we get to the destination I stick her in the pram, hat on, pile on the blankets and pram cover and then rain cover if it's wet. Then if we go in anywhere I can just peel back a layer of blanket or two. She always feels toasty warm like that so I don't feel bad that she's not wearing a coat!
Hope jabs go ok, a cold probably wouldn't stop them unless he has a temperature with it in which case I don't think they'd give them. Hope he feels better!
Jc you're doing great! Well done settling her.
La just lots of hugs and Cake and Thanks.

Jcandy · 13/01/2016 07:45

Oh and she took a bottle of expressed milk last night too Smile I've just fed her so now I'm pumping away whilst she snooze on me.

Guess it depends if you are staying outside but if you are just popping out I'd do lots of blankets

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 13/01/2016 09:08

Yeah sorry I meant, at the end of my journey I'll be outside for a while, so he needs to be rugged up, especially if he'll be in the sling. I just feel mean getting him out of his warm car seat and putting in a cold snowsuit and putting him in a cold buggy and I presume thats why he cries. It would be nice if he could have his snowsuit/coat on in the house so he's warm from the start. I think I am over thinking it!

FFS, he has definitely got another cold. Been up since 4am, mostly crying. I did manage to feed him back to sleep for a couple of short spells but each time he wakes up crying and snotty. Just gave calpol and he's calmed down and is now in the sling awake but not crying at least. Think I have to cancel the jabs. Was looking forward to getting those out of the way but he's too upset already I can't add to it.

Good work with the bottle jc.

RPopz · 13/01/2016 09:26

I wondered that too pud. They claim it's just company policy but seems weird that its never been mentioned in the entire 7 weeks the application has been going through!! I wanted to stay with them really as I'd have to pay early redemption fees if I moved to a different lender. Plus in theory, it was going to be "easier" to just port my existing mortgage to the new house. Pah! Angry

I must have missed your post La but hope you're ok xx

Ugh, another early start essie! Hope you can get some time to relax today. Brew Hope littleE is ok x

Sounds like a Mum Win all round jc!

Toast85 · 13/01/2016 09:52

Ooh well done jc! When if we ever have a second baby I am definitely making sure we introduce a bottle earlier! We waited until 8/9 weeks to try Ebm and it was never much of a success, I'm hoping she'll take to sippy cups instead.

Actually- experienced viroids- when have you started using sippy cups? What did you do? Melba is 4 months and I am wondering if it's worth a go yet.. Anything she should be doing development-wise to show she's ready to try?

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 13/01/2016 10:11

Watching with interest re the sippy cups. We've failed with bottles and sippy cups so far but I bought one without a valve last week to try but not been arsed got around to expressing yet.

I've got another question for you all re AF. When can I expect it to come back? DS is 4.5 months, and EBF. I don't want AF to come back especially so hoping it will be a while as it's one less thing to deal with as I've always had really bad period pain, though frankly I'm sure it'll seem like nothing now! Dr has given me a prescription for pill I can take while bfing but I read that it can affect milk supply so I haven't bothered with it. JSing is not likely at present, so the only reason I'd take it is to keep ERTD at bay, but I'm hoping she will stay away for a bit longer.

Hobbit19 · 13/01/2016 11:33

Ooh well done on the settling and expressing JC.When I was expressing in hospital and when my right breast was too sore to feed from we used a sippy cup as I didn't want to introduce a bottle too early. It was like a calpol measurer with a little lip on it. I think the sippy cup mentioned above might be different (like a beaker?) for older babies? We did give her one bottle of expressed milk on Saturday. It took half an hour to express and about 30 seconds for her to drink it! Unbelievable! It was a slow flow teat too! I expressed a bit more this morning because P was asleep and my boobs were going to explode but I think it is still a bit early to do expressing/bottle feeding. P is only 17 days old. HV suggested starting a bottle a couple of times a week from 4 weeks.

Any advice on expressing? Before/after feeds? Opposite side to latest feed? How much will she need for an expressed feed at 1 month old etc?

Pisghetti · 13/01/2016 11:43

BabyPis is nearly 10 months and I've not had a sniff of the witch yet Essie. Although now I am back in work I think she might make a return- I am pumping but it doesn't induce quite the same hormone response as feeding.

Way back when I had DS I started taking the minipill at 6 weeks and his weight plateaued. At the time it was believed that the minipill had no effect on milk supply. A simple cause and effect relationship couldn't be determined with a sample size of one but my doctor submitted a note to someone as anecdotal evidence. I was interested to notice when I got a prescription for the minipill this time around that it does state on the information leaflet that there is anecdotal evidence that it can impact supply in some women so obviously it wasn't just me! Luckily it didn't have an effect on BabyPis' weight - she was tiny before and stayed tiny after. I've not taken it for a couple of months though. Just a bit slack on getting a repeat prescription! Must get on that....

We introduced a cup at 6 months but for water. I might try giving her ebm in a cup at home. If she takes to it then maybe I'll do it for nursery in place of a bottle as she's not drinking her milk. Saying that she refused a bottle yesterday at nursery and when they handed it to me when I picked her up she went for it so I offered it again and she drank the lot! Little minx......

It was a fucking awful night again. DP will be home tonight - I'm going to suggest we take it in turns to get up with her on Saturday and Sunday to let the other sleep as I can't go on like this Sad it was going so well last week!

Toast85 · 13/01/2016 11:44

Hmm I'm thinking like a beaker with a spout.
Express straight after a feed pud and if you're looking at P you'll be most successful. No idea how much to give as Melba's only ever managed a small amount from a bottle before giving up but I've heard roughly an ounce per hour since the last feed as a guide.

Pisghetti · 13/01/2016 11:46

Pud I get the best results from expressing during a feed. If I'm struggling to express in work I look at pictures of her and watch videos. I've also found if I start manually expressing to get the milk going and then start pumping it all happens much quicker.

Hobbit19 · 13/01/2016 12:49

Ha, I tried expressing during a feed on 'the day of nipple agony' but I couldn't figure out the logistics of balancing a baby on one breast and the pump on the other, maybe I just need more practise!!

purplewhale · 13/01/2016 17:03

Essie you need a star wrap from tuppence and crumble. They are made of fleece, easy to put on and off and don't create bulk for car seats

purplewhale · 13/01/2016 17:06

I leave him in it in the pram or sling. I just add a blanket if it's really cold

RPopz · 13/01/2016 17:09

I introduced a sippy cup at 6mo when we started weaning. Just a bog standard free flow one. We also have a doidy cup, which is good but messy. Pud - I know the cup you mean, we fed minipopz from those in the hospital

RPopz · 13/01/2016 17:34

Oh and the ASSHAT mortgage company have decided that I am indeed allowed to have a single mortgage (yknow, the one I've been applying for all along!?). So house move is on.... Bar any other ridiculous complications!! Is looking unlikely we'll be in before I go back to work though.... Hmm

Hobbit19 · 13/01/2016 21:06

Ooh Yey for getting the mortgage sorted Rpopz. When do you go back to work? Have you already found a house? And house moves always take twice as long as you think they will/you want them too. Boo.

RPopz · 13/01/2016 21:31

Thanks pud. Yep we have a house, we sold ours at the end of November and put an offer in on the new one the next day Smile Back at work in the middle of February.... Bad times! Sad

Pisghetti · 13/01/2016 21:55

Pud there's a kind of sweet spot in terms of age when you can pump and feed. Too small and it's difficult to get then latched and support them properly with one hand. Too big and they get distracted by the pump and try to grab it and/or unlatch and wander off.

I'd do it in the bed to give me plenty of space. Get the pump set up, latch miniPud on (rugby hold works well for this) so you should have a hand free once she's settled, then pick up the pump and get to work! Only thing is you don't have any hands free to drink tea eat cake and dick about on MN
