Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 10th Just Mumming thread...following the trials and tribulations of our babies, following the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 43rd grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 56th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

The previous Just Mumming thread is HERE

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

La must admit you being "very interested and astounded" about feeding ice cubes to a baby was pretty hilarious. Any other forum and it would've been "ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY??? Feeding babies ice cubes? Your child isn't fucking Victoria beckham!!"

Hobbit19 · 08/02/2016 13:12

Oops Pis, bit of a wardrobe malfunction there. Tbf I just wiped some sick off my top so we could leave the house. Classy.

Good tips with the Ice Cube Veggies, Especially Now That I Understand That They Have Puree in them and not water! (Have no idea what happened to the capitals on my phone there!)

LaLaLaaaa · 08/02/2016 13:21

Honest to god I really thought she meant ice cubes and that perhaps I'd missed some wondrous method of teething relief!!! Grin

Haha! Spot the sleep deprived mamas! Grin

Re weaning: I would say, just give your baby as much as they want to eat and then stop. Babies are good at knowing how much to eat, as they haven't yet learned to bypass their "full" signal. They might eat barely anything at first, especially if you're doing BLW but it doesn't really matter. They don't need food yet. Food before One is just for fun!

Evening Viroids, quick question you:

P is 6 weeks old and is starting to go longer between feeds, still generally 3 hours in the morning then 3.5 to 4 hours mid - day/afternoon time. She seems to be a bit early for her early evening feed (about 2 hours since last feed) but if she goes to sleep after her bath she can go about 5 hours until her late night feed. So my question is thus: how long is too long between feeds? She is generally doing fewer dirty nappies (thank god), down from about 10 a day to about 6, plenty of wet nappies still. Her feeds are getting shorter too, she sometimes will just have one side. My optimistic thoughts say we have hit 6 weeks and everything is just starting to get easier. My PFB thoughts are more along the lines that my poor baby is starving blah blah blah not likely given her amount of chub Any thoughts?

RPopz · 08/02/2016 21:30

She's old enough not to starve herself now pud - she'd wake up if she was hungry. As long as she's doing plenty of wet nappies and is happy and alertish when she's awake then I wouldn't worry. They do get much more efficient at feeding as time goes on, so even though she's nursing for shorter periods it doesn't mean she's getting less milk. Make the most of your nice 5 hour chunks for now! These things rarely last Wink

DulcetMoans · 08/02/2016 23:52

You might have hit the magic 6 weeks pud - it must happen for some people or they wouldn't say it! By that stage I would say you don't need to wake her up if she's gaining well and doing the nappy thing. Just enjoy it!

I didn't know that about the 'full' signal popz, thanks! The BLW thing does make it hard to know - I just keep bunging food down!

I have learnt a new potential sleep extending trick. When he stirs after 30-40mins, turn him into his belly. Seems to work for another 30-40mins then! Only in the day though, doesn't seem to work at night. (He can roll btw so safer to put on his tummy these days)

LaLaLaaaa · 08/02/2016 23:59

I agree with the others pud - she sounds absolutely fine and that she's spacing feeds herself. Hooray!

I'm sad tonight viroids. Someone I know is missing (presumed drowned) in the storms on the coast. I'm not religious but I'm praying he's found. His poor family.

We are home from our trip. Bastard easy jet never gave us back our baby milk after security which we didn't realise until we were on plane, but b was a trouper and didn't make a fuss. Gave him cool boiled water in bottle instead to stop his ears popping. Bit of a bumpy landing due to winds. Glad to be home

LaLaLaaaa · 09/02/2016 00:00

Envious of your BLW. B is starting to take stuff but I'm now too frightened of choking

OP posts:
Hobbit19 · 09/02/2016 02:40

Gosh La, that's terrible I hope they are found okay. Well done on the air travel with a 6mo though.

Great, thanks ladies I will enjoy the more spread out feeds for now! Taking P for her first swim today, v exciting!

PixieChops · 09/02/2016 07:39

I really hope he's found too La I don't pray as such but I'll send love and strength to him and his family.

Pud* enjoy the longer stretches and agree wi all wise viroids. No need to wake now as long as nappies are fine and baby alert when awake.

Got a sleep at last and wasn't woken up till 7:15! Makes a change from 5am. ST took River downstairs though last night as he kept crying for some reason Hmm and has stayed there all night. The MiL text me yesterday asking if she could come round today for a brew. Luckily I'm not in. Even if I was going to be in I would've said no. Told Jordan she's only coming round now when he's here. He's not happy about it because he doesn't particularly want to see her either.
We've got singing and dancing this morning. Poppy loves it. I love taking them. It's just an effort because I have to take ST to work first and then try and get back in time for 10am. It's the dreaded smear today. I'm really considering cancelling it. Confused

LaLaLaaaa · 09/02/2016 08:22

Good luck with smear pixie X

Ben has another cold - arghhhhhhhhhgggggggggggg!

OP posts:
Hobbit19 · 09/02/2016 09:19

Try to get through the smear test if you can Pixie, it will all be done and dusted but this evening and you can treat yourself to something nice for tea (pancakes!). We are here to handhold. Take lots of deep breaths and tell the nurse to go slowly. Hugs.

RPopz · 09/02/2016 09:28

Don't cancel pixie - then you'll have to make another appointment and start the worrying all over again. Deep breathing, it'll be done before you know it. Good luck xxx

DulcetMoans · 09/02/2016 10:16

I need to book my smear too pixie, you've reminded me. It's horrible and I know you particularly find it difficult but it is better to have it done and once it's over you can forget about it for a few years.

Not another cold la! Get all those baby drugs out! Sorry to hear about your friend, hopefully they will be found safe soon.

We had mini shredded wheats for breakfast today if you want to try something different la. I just put a few down at a time (soaked in milk) and he scoffed them slowly. It is a bit scary when you start BLW and we might have been lucky but we've not really had much gagging. Just take it slow and try not to panic if they cough a little so you keep him calm.

jellypi3 · 09/02/2016 10:39

I hope your friend is found safe and sound la. Thoughts are with his poor family.

pixie good luck with the smear test. I really need to book one once I'm healed down below. Ive never had one before!

I'm going for a drive tomorrow for the first time. I'm quite nervous. DP is coming with me. Any tips? It's only a short drive to get her registered.

LaLaLaaaa · 09/02/2016 11:19

You'll be fine jelly it's a bit nerve wracking at first with LO in the car but you soon get used to it. You can get mirrors to put on back windscreen so that you can see them if that gives any peace of mind.

Pixie I absolutely hate smears and don't have your reasons, so I feel for you. Don't cancel - it's so important and you'll have to psych yourself up again xxx

Sick of B being bloody ill. Another shitty cold with green snot streaming from his nose. We're meant to be at little notes today but I've cancelled because he's just too knackered and is screaming constantly. High temperature and feeling pretty rubbish. He's had 3 colds this year already, roll on summer!

I'm shattered - no sleep now for so long! He couldn't sleep last night because he was blocked up.

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 09/02/2016 11:20

It's a colleague rather than a friend - he's presumed drowned :(

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 09/02/2016 11:56

Just suddenly thought - are you nervous because of yourself or because of baby being in car? I felt quits shaky at first because I wasn't allowed to drive for 6 weeks due to CS. But I took it slowly and it was fine. Good luck!

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 09/02/2016 12:01

Popz see when you give them the shredded wheat - do you just give them it in bowl and they just dig in with hands?

My problem is he won't put stuff in his mouth himself, he picks it up and then mushes it or chucks it out onto the floor

OP posts:
jellypi3 · 09/02/2016 13:51

Totally because of the baby la, I'll be fine myself but more her in the car. I'll see how it goes.

Sorry B is sick again :( poor you and him

Hobbit19 · 09/02/2016 14:35

You may find that jellybaby sleeps in the car Jelly. P has a bit of a cry when she first goes in the car seat, but once the car is moving she nods off.

P went for her first swim today and loved it! FYI those aqua nappies do not contain BF poo!! Luckily we got out as soon as we heard her poop and made it to the showers before leakage began - most of it went on DH ha ha! So our washing post swimming dilemma was solved as we had to dunk her under the shower - she loved it as it was so warm! Probably helped to warm her up after swimming too. I've ordered a reusable swim nappy so hopefully we will have more success with that. We are going to get her a little wetsuit too to keep her warm/contain the poo!

Hobbit19 · 09/02/2016 14:41

That is pants about B La, poor boy.

jellypi3 · 09/02/2016 15:49

Aww I can't wait to take R swimming pud, how old is she? Is there a certain time you need to wait until?

Also R's cord fell off today! When can I give her a bath and do I need to clean the belly button area?

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 09/02/2016 15:50

Hello viroids!

So sorry I've been AWOL for a while. Have read back as much as I can - don't know the details, Zyla, but it sounds like you're going through the mill, hope you're ok and are able to take it a day at a time, big hugs. Popz, I am insanely jealous of your house buying, I need to get out of this flat and there's nothing for us to buy! And I also send send soft, deep pillows to all the sleep deprived mummies and tissues to all the snotty babies. You are all doing amazingly, as always.

Life chez Snaps had been rather eventful. As I don't want to bore you into comas, here is a brief summary:
Me: surgery (umbilical hernia, caused by the pregnancy) followed by uncontrollable pain and unable to lift, hold, feed, put baby Snap down for sleep for 6+ weeks.
Baby Snap: reflux, milk refusal and vomiting worse than ever and now officially underweight. Prescribed Ranitidine (refused); Omeprazole (refused); Neocate (refused); advised to wean early (refused). Now at last the little blighter will accept solids so advised to push a high fat/ protein diet whilst remaining dairy free in case all linked to CMPI. Challenging!
The 3.5 year old: regressing with toilet training, wetting himself 3 or 4 times a day. Also challenging.
DP: My rock.
Washing machine: my other rock.
