Oh Lily and rra! I totes get you (tiredness fist bump) BUT I have further sleep related good news. Despite being a bloody horror to settle down to sleep she then stayed in her cot from 8.30 until 6.30!!!! Didn't want any feeds, only murmurings when dummy popped out which I can do in 0.5 of a millisecond if it means more sleep - thank god glow in the dark dummies!! So I had to settle her at 3,4 and 5 but I'll take 10mins of finger holding over hours of rocking!!
I am NEVER taking this blanket out of the cot!!! I'm still adhering to the 'this might be a total fluke' mantra though.

I hear you on the grobags 0-6mth ones, mini mzzzf is almost bursting out of the seams. Must get some more in the sales!

Also despite not feeding in the night she still didn't want a full bottle this morning, maybe she's more of a brunch girl?!

Fatty and Joskar I hope you're both on the mend

Was it Fanby who had the interview?! How did it go missus?

I must must MUST do Christmas cards this week!! Xmas Smile

Fanby · 14/12/2015 07:56

Sorry I haven't posted - it's been so long (all of a few days) this thread was kicked off the 'I'm on' shortcut and had to find it in the listings!!!

We were up at 12:30, 3:30, 5 and DH took her from 6-7:30 this morning, as wrong as it sounds it's actually an improvement even if I did feel like a yoyo. Fucking regression!!!! Honestly though, genuinely pleased for all the positive stories that THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!!

Interview actually went really well, it's for a job that may start in March, I really like the sound of it but tbh I don't think it'll be part timeable and I'm not ready to take the plunge back in to FT work yet. We're going to stay in touch over the next couple of months so we'll see!

Hopefully going to get some more zzzz's now then I need to do a big proper catchup as I only scan read xx

sianihedgehog · 14/12/2015 08:32

Another sleep through!! 10:30 until 4:30, six whole hours! And another hour or so nap after, too! I woke up at 2:00 with some kind of a case of sweaty paranoia and lay awake for an hour worrying about things and feeling hot, mind. :/
Does anyone else find that trying to soothe their little one just wakes them up fully? We get occasional middle of the night groans and leg thumping, but he appears to be asleep while doing it and as long as I don't pat or put a hand on him he quiets and sleeps soundly again in a few minutes. If I try to soothe him he's wide awake and hungry and hates his nappy and it's an hour or two awake.
Third set of jabs today, so I'm expecting that to put and end to our stretch of good sleeping. He was so ill after the first set. Sad

kbro79 · 14/12/2015 09:09

Rrra and lily we'll join every hour club too please. Soooooooo bloody tired. Rrra DS can just not settle either. He feeds to sleep and can't stay asleep. I feel half helpless with him and half really pissed off with him. Horrible mum moment.

Fanby remember your NCT mum comment about being tired on 2 tiny wake ups? I can go one further. One of my new mum friends said (and I quote) 'am so tired too. Not from the nights as he sleeps through. But just the relentlessness of it all'. Quite. Imagine doing that on no bloody sleep.

Right we are Christmas shopping today. Going to push tiredness out of head and try and enjoy the day. DH is off and we are going to have nice lunch out too. Plus we aren't doing London but driving somewhere so I can sleep in the car hopefully.

Fanby exciting about job. I am v nervous about whether my work will let me go part time as really don't want to do full time either.

Well done to those getting good sleep. Siani I do that sometimes on good nights. Is there anything more frustrating than lying awake next to sleeping baby. Maybe you were over tired? DS finds endless screaming helps with it. Smile

Frolicacid · 14/12/2015 09:55

Good morning!
I've not had much time to post due to a busy weekend of visiting people and wrapping presents.
Ds isn't sleeping anywhere near as well as he was, but he's better than last week. He also seems to be ready to go down for the night at about 8:30, so dh and I had our first evening alone together last night.

He's still struggling with his teeth. What is everyone else using for teething? We've got calgel, teething powders and have bought a million teethers to try and find the one! So far he's loving a linkys thing because he can hold it and get it to his own mouth. I got a nuby dummy shaped one yesterday that went down very well - until I put the 'natural' teething gel that came with it on and Ds screamed the house down! He'c clearly not a fan of cloves!

rrra, I'm so sorry you are having such a tough time. I have found myself wandering about giving formula the past couple of weeks as well. It's just so horrible when you can't settle them. I've got as far as having the bottle and some pre mixed stuff ready. I won't offer any advice, other than to tell you that it's perfectly OK to try anything you think might help. 💐

Oh fatty, I hope you're ok? Being ill with a baby is the worst. I thought I was getting another sore throat over the weekend, but nothing has come of it, thank god. You have a busy week ahead - plenty of 🍰🍫 to keep your strength up.

Huge little fist bump to mini mzzf for letting mum get some sleep! I really hope she keeps it up. It's amazing how much that extra little stretch can help.

Sorry you are having it rough kbro. I can fully relate to the swinging between being sorry for them and angry with them for not just going the fuck to sleep. Ds definitely had the man flu with his cold. You should have seen his little bottom lip sticking out and his very sorry for himself face. I hope you have a lovely day and get some sleep in the car.
Your poor friend, having to deal with looking after a baby on all that sleep 🙄 -how did you not punch her?

Get well soon jockstar.

I hope you had a nice early Christmas yesterday random.

Yay! For some good sleep tindel. I'm hoping that Ds' next skill will be making mum a coffee.

No good book recommendations I'm afraid giraffes. My current reading is limited to mumsnet, my baby book or the daily mail online Blush I might give the girl on the train a go if Ds keeps his earlier bed time up.

Another fist bump for baby grok and siani on a decent sleep. There is definitely more sleep going on for a few of us than last week - i hope that means we're all headed out of this shitty regression.

Winter wonderland sounds great clstow, as does mulled wine!

Good luck with the jabs today magrat.

Sorry things are tough lily. 3 hour candlelight yoga sounds bloody lovely though.

Great news about the interview fanby. Fingers crossed it works out for you.

I' taking Ds in to dh's work today. I've never met them before - I should probably get up and brush my hair or something!
Happy Monday everyone!

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 14/12/2015 10:27

We have a tooth! I am desperately hoping that this literal breakthrough might lead to a breakthrough of another kind sleepwise.

Kbro, I know a girl from work like that. Despite both her children sleeping through from a very young age she is so "woe is me" about everything. It gives me the rage!

Fanby, fingers crossed for the job!

Lily, that yoga sounds amazing! I need to get me something like that booked. I've asked for a massage for Christmas to try and sort out my back but getting some time to do yoga and pilates again is what I really need.

Frolic, we just use Dentinox and Bonjela as the granules or powders didn't do anything. We have a teether you can put in the freezer which ds seems to love. Enjoy DH's work today.

Really pleased to hear some stories of good sleep finally especially those who have had it bad from the start.

To those feeing under the weather, a hot toddy must be in order now it's nearly Christmas.

I am going to do cards today hopefully. Feel v behind with everything this year.

loveandsmiles · 14/12/2015 12:55

Happy Monday everyoneXmas Smile
Wow nolonger can't believe you have a tooth so early - hopefully sleep will follow!

mzzzf congratulations on getting sleep - you must feel wonderful - it's amazing what a few hours can do!

kbro, rrra & lily I will join you in the awake every hour club - possibly even every half hour - actually felt like I saw every minute of the clock last night Sad. Went swimming straight after school run - got out pool at 10.30 and she has been sound asleep ever since - even slept through a transfer from car seat to Moses basket - can she not do this at night - PLEASE?!?

giraffe you've put me in the mood for a book - I loved Girl on the Train - away to search Kindle for something similar.

I've never had a period whilst breast feeding - I have fed all DC for. 12 months - just as well as I might have had about 10 DC by now instead of 6Xmas Grin

Spent all weekend putting up Christmas decorations - I have 6 trees in my house!!!![santa] [santa] [santa]. DD loves looking at the lights - think I might stick her under the tree in my room tonight - that might keep her quietXmas Grin

I got a call from the health visitor to arrange DDs 4 month check - one HV is really nice and one is awful - it was the the awful one that called!! Didn't feel I could say I don't want you I want the other one - called the surgery today and got telephone number for nice HV and have called and left a message - hopefully I can change to her!

Hope everyone has a great week with much sleep........

sianihedgehog · 14/12/2015 15:06

Oh god, little chap is SO UPSET by his shots. He cried the entire half hour walk home and hasn't let me put him down yet and it's been four hours. He doesn't usually even like a cuddle!

MaGratgarlik1983 · 14/12/2015 16:17

Significant us too!! Screamed the 40 min walk home and really upset all day. Poor little men. Sending hugs your way!

MaGratgarlik1983 · 14/12/2015 16:18

Same for us too! Silly phone!

Joskar · 14/12/2015 17:03

Still feeling grim. Haven't eaten anything yet though so no more d or v, thanks be. What with mastitis, tonsillitis and d and v I've lost a stone in the last two weeks. It'll all go back on as soon as eat I'm sure but it cheered me up a bit this morning.

Santa is coming to Christmas party at toddler group tomorrow. I'm so excited to see dds' faces. And to play with their toys!

Finally wrote some cards today. Now I need actually send the buggers.

Six trees!

We went on our family expedition to cut down our tree. Dd1 was very excited. She's very taken with the lights.

A tooth!

sianihedgehog · 14/12/2015 17:18

Magrat sympathy! Poor little guys indeed. He's been feeding, sleeping in my lap, or crying without pause since we got in. He doesn't seem to have the terrifying fever he had with the first set at least. I do wish that DP was not at a funeral today mind. It's looking like a rough one and it'd be good to have someone to hold the baby so I could eat!

kbro79 · 14/12/2015 17:19

People who liked girl on the train I liked the book of you by Claire Kendall. Creepy but addictive!

Ok Christmas shopping done!! Phew. And I survived despite lack of sleep.

MaGratgarlik1983 · 14/12/2015 17:24

Yep I can't find the remote and need the loo but daren't move in case he wakes up!

rrra · 14/12/2015 20:04

Well DS has just taken 4oz of formula. Feel slightly sad about that, but my issue. Nothing wrong with formula at all, it is just my emotional view on my baby not feeding from me. Anyway, seemed something worth trying. Going to watch 'Enders then off to bed in case I do get sleep.

Fist bump to kbro, lily and love! May we all have lots of sleepy vibes tonight.

Frolicacid · 14/12/2015 20:21

Ds is wiped out after a busy day visiting mine and dh's work. He's fast asleep. going to bed at 8ish seems to be a thing now. Shame staying asleep is not.

I think I'm going to take him to the gp tomorrow. He's still not right after the cold/s , isn't his usual happy self and isn't eating or sleeping like he was. A friend at work suggested getting him checked for an ear infection as he has one very red cheek. He also has a lump at the back of his gums on one side. I doubt very much that he's getting a tooth there, so want to see what it could be.
Do you think that's all reason enough to go - or will they think I'm being PFB? It's so hard to know what to do. We're also having lots of screaming - I think it's just another sound he's learnt, but dh wanders if he's in pain.

I hope the tooth breakthrough brings you a sleep breakthrough nolonger.

6 trees? You totally win at Christmas loves 🎄 I love decorations and would also have loads of trees if we had a bigger house.

I hope the babies are getting over their jabs now magrat and siani.

Sorry you're still feeling grim jockstar. A stone is bloody good though! Every cloud and all of that. I hope you feel better very soon.

Congrats on finishing your shopping kbro. Mulled wine to celebrate 🍷

Let me know if the formula helps the sleep rrra? I'm considering it too.

I hope everyone has had a good Monday and that sleep is on it's way to us all.

mzzzf · 14/12/2015 20:27

So after an hour and a half trying to get DD to sleep I've surrendered and bought her back down. She actually fell asleep beautifully so I came down to eat with DH only to have to run back up 15mins later as one of the bastard dogs decided to make a shit load of noise outside the bedroom door and wake her up. Arrrrrrgh!!!

She's now super tired it won't sodding fall asleep - going to be a long night.... Line 'em up barkeep!

Tindel · 14/12/2015 20:41

Currently got J asleep on my lap after a short feed and feeling very slack at Christmas after reading everyone else's efforts. Will go and write some Christmas cards once I've done the stealth transfer to the Moses basket. DH's new theory is that we need to play with J in the late afternoon to tire him out more.

Is anyone finding it possible to read to their babies? I was an utter bookworm as a kid and used to read loads before J was born (not much time now sadly) and I want to get him interested, but can't seem to fit it into the bedtime routine at the moment. Tried just now and he started crying for food instead

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 14/12/2015 20:57

Hey there Mugabeans,

It's been a shitty couple of days - hence not posting over the weekend - but I have been reading to keep up. Sorry to hear so many of you are struggling with sleep and illness (especially you Joskar that is too many ailments you have going on there lady, fair play to you for making it to the tree felling...)

We have our third set of jabs on Friday (its the earliest day possible for them as I wanted to get them in before grumpy 1 finishes school, do NOT want to have to take her with me) and I am now slightly in terror of them having read some of the experiences on here. Still keep telling myself that I'd rather get them done and dusted and then there is a bit of a break until the 1 year ones. I'll definitely have the calpol ready though.

Glad that the job interview went well fanby. The part-time thing is so hard isn't it? I turned down a few great looking opportunities when we first moved north because they wouldn't take part-time hours (and of course everything is advertised at full-time). Its so frustrating.

love your 6 trees rock! I am part way through decorating our 1 tree, grumpy 1 has been helping so it is taking a loooong time Grin but I don't want to finish it off while she is in bed tonight because she is enjoying herself so much!

rrra like frolic I'd be interested to know how the formula thing goes. I've always assumed it wouldn't actually help that much as I know many ff fed babies and they seem to be as fickle about sleeping as the bf babies are, but I'd be delighted to be proved wrong Grin. Are you planning on pumping in the evening to maintain supply?

frolic how did your trip to the office go? Did you manage to brush your hair? I remember taking grumpy 1 to DHs office and realising half way through meeting all his colleagues for the first time that I had baby sick down me Blush. My standards have dropped even lower this time around! My Dad has downloaded the nursery rhyme CD you suggested and has been enjoying singing (badly) to both girls so thank you for that.

With regards to bedtime, grumpy 2 gets really tired and grumpy (!) at around 6pm now so DH gets her ready for bed while I finish my tea with grumpy 2. I then feed grumpy 2 while DH washes grumpy 1 and then we do the final swap of the evening and he settles grumpy 2 while I read grumpy 1 her bedtime story. Both girls tend to be asleep by 7:30pm (grumpy 1, bless her is so knackered that its more like 6:45pm at the moment!) Grumpy 2's best stretch of sleep is still the first part of the night, after her 2am feed she can be up every 1-2 hours until it's the start of the next day. Consequently the race is on every evening to get to bed as early as physically possible in order to maximise sleep - so why am I still typing and not in bed!?!

Nighty night x

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 14/12/2015 21:01

X-post tindel. I have read to both mine from a few weeks old (DH and I are complete bookworms too and want the girls to love reading as much as we do). I don't necessarily do it as part of bedtime though - with grumpy 1 that came a bit later when she had a more established bedtime - I just read whenever we have a few minutes free during the day instead of embarking on another play activity.

It is much easier now that grumpy 2 has a modicum of head control as I can sit her facing out on my lap and hold the book in front of us both. Reading to a baby lying flat on its back does promote arm cramps I have found!

sianihedgehog · 14/12/2015 22:52

Tindel DP reads a bedtime story to DS every night. He proper loves it. DS gets quite excited and shouts and grabs at the pictures and chatters along with the story. He likes Mog the Forgetful Cat a lot. We started reading to him when he was very small, just reading a page or two to him while he was in the bouncy chair. If he's too hungry he gets fussy, and he gets fussy much faster if I'm there and he knows the milk is SO CLOSE. But usually he really enjoys his story. Our bedtime routine goes bath, book, boob, bed, and I brush my teeth and stuff while DP reads the book.

FattySantaRobin · 14/12/2015 23:29

Good luck those trying formula. I ff all three of mine from birth and it hasn't made them sleep at all (i wish it did!) but its definitely worth a try.

Reading. I have read ro all of mine from birth. I start of just reading a page or two of what I'm reading out loud while feeding. Then when they can sit facing out on my knee I read baby booms to them. Just short board books or touchy feely books etc. DS1 is now an amazing reader and is reading at a 12 year old level for actually reading it and understanding it. He's 7. When I was 8 I was reading at a 15yo level with the comprehension of a 13 yo. He's reading the 4th harry potter at the minute. DD wasn't fussed over books but now she loves them and will happily sit reading with me all day. DS2 loves them too and laughs his head off at the funny voices I use.

🍸🍸🍸🍸🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷🍷🍷🍷🍹🍹🍹🍹

mzzzf · 15/12/2015 03:15

Back again! Well it was s small sleeping hiatus but I'll take it. She's only really women for a feed/nappy tonight so not awful. Although putting her down was. Ending giving her another bottle and she finally zonked at gone 9pm. I really don't get her and bedtimes - doesn't want 'early', won't settle down with us or upstairs with us. I think I'm just going to have to persevere! Mini mzzzf loves the touchy feeley books but I'm wondering if they stimulates her all over again when I'm getting her to bed. Shame really because I'm running out of a bedtime routine since the bath was too much fun aswell.

Frolic - do it! Personally I think if you've any concerns at all and/or feel he's not his usual sparkly self then go and get checked. They can't laugh at you for erring on the side of caution!! And even if they do give you eyes about 'pfb-ing' if there's nothing wrong, so what! At least you'll have ruled stuff out. Santa says do it 🎅🏻!!

Grok · 15/12/2015 03:25

Mugabe everyone

It's wonderful, Celeste is sleeping through the night and I'm wide awake so I'm having a peaceful bowl of cereal in the kitchen in my knickers with Christmas music on :D

I'll man the bar tonight - free shots and hugs to those who need them. And Joskar you get 5 extra presents from Santa for being sick, you poor chicken. Fingers crossed you feel better really soon.

So glad to read there are other mums babies who are sleeping more.

Frolic, for teething we are using Teetha gel. I called our midwife today for advice on LO never sleeping and she said it sounded like teething. Used the gel tonight and she's slept 6.5 hours already and going strong. If you're concerned about poss ear infection, def get it checked out. Peace of mind if not, and help if so. They absolutely won't think it's unnecessary.

mzzzf, I hope you're asleep and not drinking the line of shots from the barkeep before I gave him the night off

Ok going to try to fall back asleep

Lilydreams · 15/12/2015 03:31

Losing the will to live.

After initially going down easily (for once) at 8.30 DS slept till 12.30- I stupidly went to sleep at 11.30!! He's moaned and wriggled on and off since then but not making it clear what he wanted! At 2.30 I decided to try a feed he guzzled it, falling asleep towards the end- winner u thought- moved him onto shoulder for winding- he has a coughing fit at the same time as an enormous burp causing a massive sick all down the chair!!!! Yet another thing I need to find time to clean tommorrow!! He fell asleep after- then woke right up when put in his cot! FFS!!!! Sat with my arm through the bars trying to settle. Been here for 10 mins. He keeps pretending he's asleep then moaning and wriggling again! DS you've a clean nappy, a full tummy and it's the middle of the night go to sleep pleassssseeeeeeeeee 😖
