The other day went for weekly grocery shop and by impulse bought Loacker Napolitan wafers, never had them before so no idea. Gave one DD for a treat and she really likes it. Though would leave it in the car to bribe her when she kicks off in the wrong moment. Ha! What I didnt expect she would be "aaaaa" and stretching arms towards the packet as soon as straped in the car seat. Her face literally lits up whenever she sees the red package. We dont keep them visible anymore to have the consumption under control...

moggle · 02/03/2016 17:09

hi all, just wanted to quickly post while I remembered so that this goes back into my "i'm on" list and I can catch up properly at the weekend.
We're off to Dublin tomorrow for a long weekend for my niece's christening. I'm totally stressing out. DH has been ill this week, finally took the day off work today, DD is teething about 5 teeth, she got bitten by a rabbit at the weekend and is on antibiotics, plus has an awful cold so is waking every couple of hours during the night and I have to get up every time due to DH being ill. No packing done yet, just about to leave work to pick DD up and if DH is still in bed ill I will be irrationally annoyed with him!
It's one of those times I could cheerfully cancel the holiday, it's going to be cold and grey and the place we are staying has no baby equipment so we have to cart everything with us. The silver lining is my parents are coming too so I expect DD will want to sit with them for the flight and hopefully the whole holiday haha. That's reminded me I need to book our taxi from the airport with a car seat. ARGH.

Anyway sorry for the me me me post, I will catch up with your posts properly soon. xxx

Hello everyone! Just read through and had a catch up. I've been a bit preoccupied as I started a weight loss thread on MN which turned into a 150 strong facebook group and meant I've been busy with that when I do get a chance to get online! Dd is doing well, walking and starting to talk, she says ' oh dear' to everything! Had a horrendous January, we all had a virus then food poisoning! But all better now and off on our first family holiday in a couple of weeks! Sleep is much better now, we abandoned the cot as everytime she rolled over she would bang Her arms and wake up so now she's on a double mattress in the spare ( baby proof and with thick carpet) room and sleeps like a log. Im still in with her some nights but its so much better!

Annarose2014 · 03/03/2016 11:42

Oh that sounds better! I've been wondering about the cot bed situation here as every night now he wedges his head in the top right corner and then his whole body is wedged across the width of the cot. I'm not sure how much longer we're going to get away with it before he gets really irritated.

The reason he wedges his head up there is cos theres a squishy toy in that corner and I think he uses it as a pillow. So I'm wondering if he'd be happier with a toddler pillow or is he too young yet? I know precisely zero about these things.

Congrats on the weight loss group! How awesome! Once this baby pops I'm going to be trotting off to WW the minute I'm allowed. I'm 11 weeks and look exactly like I looked at 20 weeks last time so clearly my stomach muscles are shot to hell and I'm going to need a LOT of help afterwards. Are you following a specific plan?

Annarose2014 · 03/03/2016 11:43

Btw we're on our first holiday in just over a week too! Shitting it. The plane especially.

haventgotaclue1 · 03/03/2016 14:01

Oh good Smile another one wondering about cot bed / normal bed transition and when and how you go about it. I mean, when do we take the sides off the cot bed and then (i guess at the same time) move from gro bags to a pillow and duvet?? Like you Anna I know the square root of bugger all Wink.

Had an absolutely shit night's sleep last night Sad - it's ALWAYS the night before we have visitors coming to stay (PIL this time). Reckon DH and I had a grand total of about 3-4 hours of broken sleep and dd probably managed around 7 hours of broken sleep which is 4 less than she has been having for the last few weeks (I know, we've been really lucky but it made last night even worse). Am convinced it's teething as the crying wasn't the normal "I'm-being-a-monkey" crying, but real "I'm-in-pain" crying / screeching Sad and she's had really rosy cheeks for a week or so and is beginning to be a snot monster again (always happens before a tooth appears). Will be dosing her up with Calpol BEFORE she goes to bed tonight....

Arkkorox · 03/03/2016 14:36

anna im just doing low carb high protien really, I've lost almost 50 pounds since the begining of Jan!

Dd is quite happy with a duvet and a folded up blanket as a pillow. She's always the other end of the bed anyway when she wakes up Grin

Annarose2014 · 03/03/2016 15:36

50 pounds! Amazing!

After some Googling it seems you can give a child a pillow after 12 months. Any flat pillow will do. A tip I came across is to put it under the sheet as it stays put so I'll try that.

I'll honestly try anything to get him to sleep deeper! He may hate it but it's an experiment at least. Some kids love them and sleep brilliantly and some kids fling them away with great force.

And supposedly you take the sides down when they can climb over them. We're a looooong way off from that yet.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 03/03/2016 19:43

Ye pillow from 12mths although I didn't bother til went in bed ds1 had a cot then went in single bed at 2yrs 5mths he was dream though never tried to climb out cot and has never got out bed funnily at 5 he still shouts us!! Ds2 has a cot bed so will keep him in it as long as we can he too sleeps in top corner and from my night nanny work this is v common n probably a security thing small space nice cosy.

Nursery did dressing up for world book day today ds2 was only baby who went dressed up he was a dinosaur. Ds1 school didn't dress up just did take fav book to school. He took what the ladybird heard next as its fairly new out.

haventgotaclue1 · 04/03/2016 05:55

We had world book day at nursery too - no dressing up though but a "well-loved" copy of and Mog was taken in Smile. I secretly can't wait till the dressing up bit (although will probably regret saying that when I'm making the costume! ).

Was right about the teething stuff night before- another one has appeared (8 now). Just had 11 hrs solid sleep from her! !!!! (Unfortunately I haven't had so much)

haventgotaclue1 · 04/03/2016 05:56

Oh, meant "Meg and Mog"

MrsAukerman · 04/03/2016 06:08

I've just slept through for the first time in ages. I don't think dS did but I'm so full of a cold that DH did bedtime and the night shift so I got an early night after a lempsip and ds didn't wake me up at all. Just snuck downstairs for a brew on my own. Heavenly. DH and ds appear to be cosleeping in ds's room so he presumably did wake. We're cutting tooth number 13 here!

It's lovely to have that feeling of tea in peace in the early morning after a night of sleep MrsA.

Both the dds up last night. Dd1 has been under the weather and waking lots as a result. Dd2 seems fine so far but maybe last night was the start of something. She would let me leave the room but then start crying loudly after about ten minutes , just as I was dropping off... About seventeen times in a row Hmm

HalfStar · 04/03/2016 08:01

Been thinking about a pillow here too. Dd1 got one much later but dd2 crumples her comforter into a kind of pillow shape when trying to settle herself so she might actually like a little baby pillow... Either that or she'd freak out and fuck it out of the cot.

moggle · 04/03/2016 09:30

Just saw Anna and Ark have flights coming up? On our short flight yesterday my mum brought some great bits for DD: an old wallet with some old loyalty cards in, a small pot that she could open herself which had felt shapes in, a retractable sewing tape measure, one of those handbag hairbrushes where the bristles can be popped in and out, a small set of board books that had their own box. Kept her very well occupied. I also brought a bag of craft pom-poms - nice and quiet and didn't matter if they got lost. She sat there putting them in and out of cups.

Annarose2014 · 04/03/2016 09:37

Oooh pom poms are a good idea.

Not sure how successful pillow was. We knew we were due for a bad night and sure enough we had it. So its hard to tell.

He did seem a bit disconcerted by it and rather than use it, it just pushed him further down the cot. And he's a big lad! So I might take it out and leave it for now.

He's tired this morning as in addition to his bad night he was up for the day at 6. DH got him up though as I was up with him during the night so I slept in till 8.30. Love that man!

HalfStar · 04/03/2016 10:01

ark I meant to say - welcome back! And omg - FIFTY POUNDS? That's incredible. Delighted to hear that DD is sleeping well again for you.

moggle those are great treasures, I must keep them in mind as we have a longish car journey with DD2 coming up and it's at a funny time so she might not nap for long. She's still mad into stickers and my wallet but I'm definitely going to get her a 'new' wallet that will be a novelty for her.

This is the event my sister is organising to raise awareness of gdd

When I was pregnant i got various leaflets/ booklets about pregnancy, birth and looking after a newborn, which included step-by-step guide to bathing a baby. Why hasn't anyone made a guide to how to bath and wash the hair of a one year old who has food in her hair but hates having it washed and would rather thrash about trying to drown herself and bang her head on the side of the bath while screaming like she is being murdered? It was like trying to bath a very loud, very angry octopus. Any tips on surviving this? Bear in mind that we don't get hot water in the taps since DH got someone in to do something with the thermostat last year so the bath is actually a shower with the plug in. She shares the bath with her sister, gets out after her hair is washed, I put her pyjamas on, then wash DD1's hair while DD2 stands at the side of the bath and opens the shower curtain so she gets water on her pyjamas and has to get changed again. Obviously I only wash her hair if I have to but she does rub food in it frequently.

ladydolly · 04/03/2016 21:33

happy could you wash her hair with a jug of water instead of shower? I'm afraid I've only got that one idea. Sorry.
DD loves the bath thankfully but still the idea of bathing 2 of them is frankly terrifying.

Haven't breastfed since Monday, so I guess I'm done (silently weeps). It's the right time but I'll really miss it. Not sure how we'll go tonight though, DP is away for the weekend on a stag do so I have to try and give her a bottle if she wakes in the night... she normally insists on boob but she's been ok when I've said no in the last couple of days so fingers crossed.

Annarose2014 · 05/03/2016 09:54

Hope last night wasn't a nightmare!

We have always washed DSs hair with Infacare as you don't have to rinse it. And it looks fine but it doesn't really look as sweet and thistledown-y as when you really rinse it. We tried with a jug the other day and he FREAKED.

I think I'll try one of those special jugs with the rubber panel across the front so it doesn't get on his face. He doesn't seem to mind water on his head, or having his face sponged but running water on his face is the problem. No way would I chance a shower head yet!

porsmork · 05/03/2016 10:20

Hi all! Looks like lots of us are looking forward to holidays soon. We're off at the end of the week for a few days, really looking forward to the change of scene, though I hope it warms up a bit. We were outside without our coats yesterday, but woke up to snow this morning!

Bedding wise, we moved ds to pillow and duvet at a year old. It was such a struggle getting him into a sleeping bag. He does kick it off sometimes, and gets cold, but generally he's fine snuggled up under it. I tend to pop a fleece blanket under the duvet, tucked in at both sides, almost like a grown up swaddle.

My parents were visiting this week, so ds decided to stop sleeping through. I feel so much more aware of him crying when others are in the house, and probably wind him up more trying to settle him and not disturb anyone else, than if I'd just have left him to grumble it out. He'd also stopped drinking his night time milk (only taking about 2oz), so was waking up hungry. DH gave him a flapjack before bed last night and he slept all the way through.

The little flapjacks have been a lifesaver. I mash a banana, chuck in some oats and raisins, then make little bars and bake for 15 mins. So easy, that ds helps with mashing, and it really keeps him going.

What a ramble! Hello Ark, was wondering how you were doing. 50lbs is amazing, congrats, do you feel better for it?

porsmork · 05/03/2016 10:28

Happy, is your dd happy in the bath before you wash her hair, or is it the whole bathing experience? A jug might be better, or maybe asking her to 'help' you wash it, so she doesn't feel out of control? Ds has just started to rub his shampoo in (literally past two days), while we sing a washing hair song, and he enjoys that much more rather than just being cleaned. You might be doing that already, sorry!

happypotamus · 05/03/2016 22:28

With the hair washing I am using a jug, well actually it's a plastic cup to pour water from the bath rather than trying to get her to sit under the shower, or I try to get her to lie down in the water so I can wash the shampoo off. Both are equally hated.

Hope you all have a lovely Mother's Day tomorrow .

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 06/03/2016 05:39

Happy mothers day everyone

Baby has his glasses crap experience never use specsavers one pair don't fit properly n other pair the band they eventually found as ordered o be hadn't come in basically comes off as soon as he pulls them as I am in city centre Mon have rang the big store and taking them in there and they will look at them but I am insisting the one pair go back as he doesn't look through the lenses they sit too low on his face he looks over the top. " should gone to specsavers except if you are a child"
