Annarose2014 · 03/02/2016 09:03

Oh poor little thing! It's heartbreaking when they have a cut isn't it?

We tried staying up till 7.15 last night as an experiment. Epic fail. Still took him till 8 to fall asleep. The last half hr of that he was really trying too, but couldn't get comfy so he was getting upset and it was a bit crap as I had nausea of course.

So we're not sure what to do. Back to the basics tonight I suppose and see what happens.

happypotamus · 03/02/2016 10:13

I had a whole night's sleep (this has probably happened less than 10 times in DD's life so I am still very excited by it). It did take over a hour to put her to bed, but it was worth it. She has slept terribly for the past couple of weeks, ending up in our bed for part of most nights and barely sleeping at all over the weekend while I was working nightshifts. Yesterday I think I 'reset' her. This used to happen when she was tiny: she would hardly sleep for a few nights, then I sit and cuddle her in the quiet during the day while DD1 is at school and she naps for a couple of hours then sleeps better at night. I worried that she wouldn't sleep last night because she had napped for ages and I hadn't realised how late it was so she woke up at 4.30. DD1 messed about so much in the shower that I told her if she didn't let me finish washing her hair I wouldn't read a bedtime story, so I didn't get to read to her, which was a shame as I love story time, but it meant I got to read DD2 her own bedtime story which doesn't normally happen. I fed her and she fell asleep, I put her in the cot and she woke up, but she wasn't screaming so I knelt down by the cot and cuddled her. She was almost lying on top of one of my arms and it took a hour or more for her to fall asleep enough that I could move my arms, so I could barely stand up to walk out of the room by that point after kneeling in one position so long! Of course I don't expect a repeat of this, and taking so long to get her to sleep is not sustainable, especially when I am at work and DH has to put both DDs to bed on his own, and she had her MMR yesterday (4th attempt at that, as she has always been too ill when the appointment comes around) so will be feeling the effects of that soon, but one whole uninterrupted night of sleep has been amazing!!

HalfStar · 03/02/2016 11:07

Yay! I had a full night's sleep too! It's definitely been a rare beast here as even on the occasions that DD2 has done a full night, DD1 has been up with a cough or something. Ah, it sure feels good, but it does mean that tonight she will wake up for ages, as she seems to be quite committed to this one good night/one bad night thing.

Those whose babies are going to nursery: how are their naps there? DD WILL NOT do longer than 30/40 minutes and she really needs more than that.

east poor DS! Must have been a shock for you both. How is he today?

happypotamus · 03/02/2016 17:05

half my nursery is magical and manages to get the non-sleeping wonderchild to sleep for at least 40mins each day. I just checked their online update-on-your-child's-day thingy, and she slept for 1hr28mins today despite sleeping all night. Now I am wondering if she is ill again because she is sleeping so much.

east hope your baby is ok today.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 03/02/2016 20:04

Hi thanks he is fine today babies really do just bounce back

Ahhh a full nights sleep I can dream although dh does anything before 5am annoyingly if baby wakes at 5 I don't go back to bed as get up at 6 anyway for work .

ladydolly · 03/02/2016 20:10

Well done babies!! I no longer sit and seethe with envy when I hear about babies going through the night. babydolly still wakes once usually for food but I can cope with that.

At the childminder she sleeps for 1-1.5 hours after lunch and they just pop her in the buggy and off she goes. On the weekends she often has a little 1/2 hour at about 9.30 then an hour after lunch. I've got photos from the childminder where she's fallen asleep in the highchair or on the floor - that would NEVER happen at home. She'll fight it all the way.

How's it going eastmids? Healing?

Annarose2014 · 03/02/2016 20:25

Well tonight we out him to bed 10 mins earlier - at 10 to 7 - and he was asleep by 7.05!!!

Perhaps he's been getting a second wind and then he gets overtired and cant switch off? Its a puzzler.

But delighted this evening! DH is out so I have an evening to myself, lovely. But I cant drink wine which is a bit crap. I may have to dive into the icecream instead!

haventgotaclue1 · 03/02/2016 21:07

Sorry to bore you all but very proud mummy moment today: DD walked for the 1st time Grin Grin Grin Definitely no stopping her now!

ladydolly · 03/02/2016 21:22

Yay haven't!!! Time to nail everything down!!

happypotamus · 03/02/2016 22:53

I mentioned to DH that I wondered if DD was ill because she slept all last night and slept for so long at nursery. He said maybe she is just starting to sleep normally and pointed out that at this age DD1 generally slept through the night and slept for 1-2hrs in the afternoon. Hmmm, maybe, or maybe I'll be here this time tomorrow telling you about my day working for 13hrs on no sleep because she decided not to sleep tonight (though it is going well so far and it didn't take a hour to get her to sleep tonight either)

HalfStar · 03/02/2016 23:00

Cool that you can check sleep log online happy.

I had to put dd to bed at 6pm, earliest so far I think. She'd only slept 30 mins since 6.45am so was exhausted. But I've a feeling she might be coming down with a reaction to her jabs - it's 10 or so days since she had them so right in the timeframe. She seemed to go kind of pale and passive in the evening- usually she just gets whingey! No temp though. I've heard her fuss a few times on the monitor so we shall see I guess.

Yay for baby haven't taking off! Bet she looked proud of herself Smile

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 04/02/2016 06:33

Lady dolly seems to be healing from what I can check it will form an ulcer which will no doubt be sore so will keep an eye on it.

Annarose2014 · 04/02/2016 13:42

Another two hour wakening during the night. I'm keeping note in the calendar and it's been 10 days since the last one so I shouldn't complain.

It's just that now when I'm abruptly woken at 3 am I need to vomit! So it was hard going, dry heaving silently in the dark trying to re settle him. DH took over at 4 (thank god) & DS took another 40 mins to fall asleep.

But the sickness has been horrendous ever since. Lunchtime now and I'm still in bits! Want to puke constantly. Lashing with rain all day so we cant go out and I doubt I'm able anyway so CBeebies on which makes me feel even crappier.

I'm just having a moan! It's days like today I reflect on the whole "No family support" thing and feel a bit sorry for myself. But am trying to give myself a good slap. Nobody forced me to go a second time!

happypotamus · 04/02/2016 22:32

Ha, so I wrote that post last night then went to bed. When I closed my eyes she woke up and started crying. She didn't want me to sit and hold her (me standing up and holding her was tolerable for her but not so much for me), she pushed at me and cried more, but screamed if I put her back in the cot. This went on for over a hour. It was after 1 when I brought her to our bed, but she still wouldn't lie down and only stopped crying and slept if I stayed sitting up :( it used to be like this until last summer, but she was less heavy then. So, yes, very little sleep and crap day at work.

haventgotaclue1 · 05/02/2016 19:46

Oh happy Sad - really hope tonight is better for you.

We're off to get some shoes for DD tomorrow...she's been wearing soft-bottomed Jo Jo Mama Bebe fleecy pram-type boots but now she's actually getting more mobile on her feet, I'm thinking that they're not going to give her enough support. I went to a very traditional shoe shop (where I got my 1st school shoes from about 35 years ago!) where they properly measure feet last week to prepare myself for the cost...a pair of Startrite pre-walker shoes cost £27!!!! (but they looked SO cute! Grin) www.startriteshoes.com/babies-shoes/girls/pre-walkers/mayflower-purple-nubuck-girls-t-bar-pre-walkers

Annarose2014 · 06/02/2016 11:06

happy really thinking of you this morning. Praying you had a better night last night. Chocolate Wine

happypotamus · 06/02/2016 21:59

Actually yes! For the first time in her life she slept for 2 nights in a row! Probably. I woke up when the alarm went off on Friday and noticed the red light on the baby monitor that means it is on mute. I hadn't noticed when I had got into bed on Thursday night. I felt terrible about that in case she had been crying and I hadn't heard her, but DH says that it beeps if she cries when it is on mute (he has muted it before when I have been in her room and she has been crying and he is trying to sleep), so maybe she slept through the night then and also last night I didn't hear her all night when the monitor wasn't on mute. This morning she didn't even wake up until after 8am, but unfortunately DD1 had woken me up at 6.45am to ask about the surprise I had bribed her with the previous night. This is despite being full of cold and pouring with snot. I have to change the cot sheet each day because there is snot all over it from the night before. She has also given up eating most things this week. Except cheese, considering she was dairy-free when she was first weaned, she is obsessed with cheese and looks so excited when I get it out. This week she has basically eaten cheese, fish fingers, peas, weetabix, a variety of fruit, homemade ginger cake my mum brought round, fromage frais, new potatoes and that's about it. I don't know whether she isn't well, it's her teeth or she is just being picky. Picky eating is something I have no experience of, as DD1 has always eaten everything we have given her (except aubergines and 'stripey prawns').
Apologies to those of you who haven't had 2 good nights sleep in a row.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 07/02/2016 05:41

That's great news happy and hopefully getting to fully sleeping through we Gert intermittent full nights but otherwise still up most nights ds1 was such good sleeper.

We are still df although I have slowly reintroduced dairy back into my diet and been OK, just lket nursery start using oat milk in cooking rather than breast milk although had to go back to breast milk for custard as he refused it with oat milk and also had couple dodgy nappies so maybe too much change at once.

MrsAukerman · 07/02/2016 13:11

We're in the middle of first molars coming through. Still. Tried no painkillers last night and it took over an hour to get him to sleep.
We're also experimenting with one nap some days rather than two. anyone still on two naps?

OP posts:
eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 07/02/2016 18:56

We have the top 2molars coming both have cut but taking forever as in weeks to come through properly ibuprofen paracetamol and bonjela are my friend!!

Baby just gave me my first ever nose bleed by cramming his finger up my nose not an experience I wish to repeat

haventgotaclue1 · 07/02/2016 19:27

Still 2 naps here Mrs A - although not sure if she's starting to try the one nap routine (have had 2 days last week where she slept for 2 hours from about 10-12) and that was it until bedtime. Normally though it's the 1st nap around 10 and then the 2nd around 2.30. In bed for 7pm.

DD has conjunctivitis AGAIN Sad - both eyes are looking really gunky. Started Saturday morning so will be off to the docs (yet again) for more drops tomorrow.

Happy, really pleased you managed 2 good nights in a row. Maybe we're the only ones but we don't have the monitor on at night: there's no way we'd be able to sleep through DD if she woke up crying!

MrsAukerman · 07/02/2016 19:31

Well dh reckons one nap days are better and you get a good 80-120 min nap with no effort, starting at about 1300. Today we tried one nap but I did the nap and it took 25 mins to get him to sleep and he only did an hour (and that's with me rushing upstairs at 40 min mark to get him back to sleep). Gah. DH is way better at looking after him now. Proper gutting.

Strawberryfield12 · 07/02/2016 20:22

Havent are there drops for gunky eyes? DD had cold with fever weeks ago and eventually her eyes went all sticky. We went to local pharmacy and were told that she was too young for any drops, we should just keep them clean with water and cotton wool. She is now pretty much over it, this morning was the first one she could open eyes herself after wakeup without us cleaning them out first.

DD dropped her second nap in October. Though she will drop off sometimes if long time in the car or pram in the afternoon. It has never worked with her what they say that if the naps are longer the nights are better. If she takes long nap or afternoon one, it will mean we won't get her anywhere near bedroom before 8pm. Today she had very short nap while we were out and about, kept rubbing her eyes all afternoon, but wouldn't nap, so she dropped off on click of fingers at 7pm. Feels like she has a set number of hours she has to sleep in 24 hours and she wouldn't sleep no more and no less.

DD tantrums are only getting better, I dread to think how this is going to develop until the 'terrible two'. I already feel like having brain damage after some of them, they make me reaaallllyyy exhausted.
