I really don't understand how your babies can never have had nappy rash! Constant battle here :( - I used to use nothing and it was awful. Now I have to trowel on the barrier cream

Fleurchamp · 21/12/2015 07:50

Yey jcandy congratulations! Sorry, I am not on FB at the minute as I am feeling decidedly bah humbug Xmas Envy

All I can suggest is lansinoh, a comfy chair and Netflix. Settle in for the long haul and just go with it. It's a cliche but it does get easier. Do have the latch checked though just to make sure as a bad latch can mangle those nips.

la I know this is complete PFB behaviour but when at home I use cotton wool and water to clean S's bum. DH insists on it and I have to admit it does seem to have stopped the nappy rash. Also, s only poos once a day at the most which I think helps as I believe it's poo that causes it.

Does B have any allergies?

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 21/12/2015 09:09

Yay congrats JC! Lovely news. Yes, agree with getting the latch checked (and checked and checked and checked if it still doesn't feel right!). I had horrible problems bfing to start with but managed to hang in there and work it out with help of a bf consultant at local hosp and still ebf now at 16 weeks and it's easy now so glad I stuck with it but it was very sore. Latest problem is DS won't entertain the idea of taking a bottle, but I will attenpt to apply the same grit to that and keep trying!!

We're off the the Drs at 12 as DS cold from last week has now gone onto this chest and he's got a horrible cough. Last night was grim he was up loads and were it not for calpol I don't think we'd have had any sleep at all. Poor mite.

Not feeling very festive though I did just sellotape all the christmas cards to the sitting room door in a fetching pattern.

RPopz · 21/12/2015 11:01

Congratulations jc!! Welcome to the crazy side Xmas Grin It does seem as though not much is happening for the first couple of days breastfeeding, until your milk comes in. But she's getting all the lovely colostrum and putting a big milk order in! It'll seem like endless hours you spend with a baby stuck to your boob from now on but it's all normal. Definitely start using the lansinoh now before it gets sore, and don't be afraid to buzz the midwives for help. It can be difficult at first but it gets easier Smile Enjoy the lovely snuggles!!

Poor MrDulcet! Sounds like noro? Hope he's better for Christmas!! Antibac antibac antibac!! Wash your hands like a mad woman and don't share cups or towels. Fingers crossed you escape!

How's B's bum La?

Hooray for eating cookie!! Minipopz is being a PITA and will only eat food if I put it in his mouth for him right now.... And most finger foods end up on the floor (apart from banana or cake Hmm).Little bugger!!

Lunch was a bit of a nightmare... So busy and loud, and noone had booked a table, natch Angry! MrP's gran has dementia and can't really string a sentence together anymore, which is sad Sad. Nice carvery though Xmas Grin

RPopz · 21/12/2015 11:01

Hope DS perks up soon essie xxx

LaLaLaaaa · 21/12/2015 11:16

Poor littlelama I hope Dr can give him something. Poorly babies are awful. I've got my poorly bub asleep on me just now. Second time this morning, can't bring myself to put him down in his crib or sleepyhead because he just seems so sad and wants cuddles. He's very coldy and his nappies are still frequent explosions. They are normal colour but just mucuousy and I think it's the snot and saline he's swallowing. No temperature but he's got a cough and is bunged up.

His bum is much better - I've been troweling on cream and it's working. Poor boy is like a slippery eel when he goes to bed - eczema cream on tummy, back and legs, sudacreme under arms and behind legs, lansinoh on face and under chin to treat dribble rash, then coconut oil and metanium on bum and bits.

Just need to keep on top of it all. If that's not enough he's also got an infected blister on finger - it did have a green head on it but I cleaned it out in the bath last night. He won't stop sucking it so it won't heal. Bloody hell! Me and Dh are never at Dr (until I got pregnant), I had no idea how often babies have things wrong with them!

I'm actually really organised with Christmas! All the presents for family have been posted off - they live in New York and Scotland. Other presents are wrapped and under tree. Delivery slot for food is booked and we just need today to check our list is complete and update the order. I feel pretty unchristmassy though - I guess coz I'm in the house a lot so don't get to see all the Christmas stuff going on. But I'm going to whack the Christmas specials on the TV and try to invoke some cheer!

LaLaLaaaa · 21/12/2015 11:19

Popz that sounds a bit rubbish and that's sad about nan :(. My GPs died before they got to that stage but my mates mum has dementia and I've seen her struggle with that, it's awful

Missed your poorly Dh dulcet. Poor guy. Keep your distance!

Fleurchamp · 21/12/2015 13:03

la S had an infected finger just after he was born and needed antibiotics to clear it up. We also had to turn up the scratch mits (that auto corrected to scratch nuts Grin) to stop him sucking it. I don't want to alarm you but keep an eye on it as it can spread.

We also bathed it in salted cooled boiled water and used a cotton bud to squeeze the pus out (magnificent sporn!).

I am hiding out in a local cafe whilst my cleaner goes about her work. I can't wait to go home to a clean house I have been a complete slattern Sad

Hope all the poorly babies get well soon Flowers

DulcetMoans · 21/12/2015 13:17

Didn't think of that popz, no idea where he would have got hat. He's gone to work today but he's not right. Didn't even watch match of the day last night so much be ill! It's his work do tonight though, all free and partners invited so think that's driving him today! It's our first night out together - grandma and grandad are coming to babysit.

Sounds like a stressful lunch popz, was mini well behaved at least?

Hope the doctor can help essie! Not sure what they can do for cough but will interested to hear if they have any advice.

We had a phase of lots of sticky poos la. Went to see HV about it at clinic and she said could be cold or teeth but just watch out if it smells offensive. You know, more offensive than an infant shitting themselves already smells! It probably lasted about two weeks. Nothing changed after, just stopped! Not sure how we avoided nappy rash really - we don't use any product on him which could help or it could just be luck.

Waiting on baby nap to end so I can feed and go out! I do work hard to get these naps though so not going to wish it away.

LaLaLaaaa · 21/12/2015 14:06

Have fun tonight dulcet I hope Dh is better by then!

I'm bit worried about the finger now fleur Confused perhaps I should take him to doctor. Oh god they must think I'm like some kind of fucking hyperchondriac PFB mum!!! I'm in there every bloody week but every single thing so far has been an actual thing - except maybe the cough because they couldn't do anything about that one. It's still red and swollen with w little dry scab on top - here's a photo

Hmm this was S's after it was drained. I think it was called paronychia.

RPopz · 21/12/2015 18:10

I'd go get some abx La - make the most of the NHS now you need it. My niece had an infected finger and she was in hospital for a couple of days with it. Older than B though, she was about 18mo at the time.

Ah maybe not noro if he's well enough to go to work! Are you going to the Christmas do with him Dulcet?

Minipopz was pretty well behaved to say how hot and busy it was! He's been a turd today though... THREE HOURS at the playgroup Christmas Party. Eating, playing, singing, painting, bubbles.... The works. You'd think that'd afford me at least a half an hour nap in the pushchair afterwards to do some Christmas shopping in peace; right? WRONG Xmas Angry Nap dodging swine!

What did the doc say essie?

RPopz · 21/12/2015 18:11

Oh just read your post properly Dulcet! Have fun tonight Smile

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 21/12/2015 20:53

Dr made me feel like neurotic first time mother. But she did listen to his chest and said his cough sounds worse than it is cos he's full of snot. They were running an hour late and ds was beaming at all the old ladies in the waiting room. Bless. He definitely seems happier today so hopefully we are over the worst of it. It's just scary how quick they go down hill isn't it. Last night was horrible and he slept on me most of the night. Hoping tonight will be better!

RPopz · 21/12/2015 21:18

Last time I took miniP to the GP he perked up massively in the consultation room and started trying to play with everything on the Drs desk Hmm They are monkies! Grin

HE'S STILL AWAKE Angry I'm losing my marbles.

Fleurchamp · 21/12/2015 21:40

S is also still awake. Midnight is the new bedtime apparently Hmm

I am working on the theory that S is hungry. popz are you the BF guru? I reckon that S is hungry as he is too easily distracted in the day to feed properly this has then led to my supply dwindling and then it being a vicious circle of him not getting enough milk. Does this sound feasible?

He has finally taken a bottle tonight after weeks of refusing - he must have been starving. Still won't sleep though so I am letting him comfort on me.

RPopz · 21/12/2015 22:10

Hmm maybe, but I think nursing distraction is common at S's age, now they're more alert and noticing the world around them. They usually make up for it by feeding more in the night though. Perhaps your supply is just readjusting itself x

RPopz · 21/12/2015 22:13

Perhaps he's not getting much hind milk if he's only having quick snacks in the day. Should even itself out though. Your supply won't have dropped.

LaLaLaaaa · 22/12/2015 01:01

Fleur B is very distractable just now and where I used to feed on couch in day I now have to feed in darkened quiet bedroom. Could you try this?

Sleep, babies, sleep!

My boy is more poorly. Cold is worse and now we have green diarrhoea shooting out and all nappies are mucus. I presume a Dr visit is needed, but what can they do? I'm feeding feeding feeding to keep his strength and fluids up. He is absolutely fine in himself and doesn't seem bothered!

LaLaLaaaa · 22/12/2015 04:52

My pillock of a husband just got up and turned bedroom light on. He's drunk. He's woken up poorly baby I took 2 hours getting back to sleep.

I may not be responsible for my actions

Jcandy · 22/12/2015 06:42

Oh la he's got a lot of making up to do after that!!

I've been awake all night for the second night running. Good job I used to work night shifts so my body has at least some idea of what to do! Midwife showed me how to latch yesterday. Managed it a couple of times but more often don't. The breastfeeding support person is supposed to be coming out in the next couple of days so they may help more. The last few hours G has been feeding for less than a minute before going to sleep, then repeating every 10 mins so I can't even get her to settle with dp coz she just get angry if she can't have boob. She was ok in the day yesterday though so hopefully I can get a few naps in today

RPopz · 22/12/2015 09:14

Oof La. Patio.

Its a tough time jc but it does get easier. Newborns are "upside down" with night and day for a while. Have you tried the biological nurturing position for breastfeeding? Don't be disheartened about the latch yet, it takes a bit of time Smile

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 22/12/2015 19:32

jc I found the biological nurturing position really helpful in the beginning, DS seemed to find it easier to latch and then once we'd got the hang of things I found the other positions worked fine.

purplewhale · 22/12/2015 19:58

JC I'm by no means an expert but I found lying down the easiest. I could doze while he fed and it was far more comfortable

LaLaLaaaa · 22/12/2015 20:28

It takes a bit of time JC to get the hang of it but you will! I agree with the biological nurturing suggestion
