Sorry-just saw all of these! How have everyone's weeks been?
Tuesday went fine actually, phew. MIL came round so I could shower in peace then I went to theirs for lunch. My niece was under the weather so they stayed at home. DH's meeting finished early so he was home by 9.30pm & she was awake feeding so he got to see her and have a cuddle.
So far it's been alright with my husband back at work but I had a bit of a panic last night about midnight. DD was screaming and roasting, didn't want milk or need changed and no wind that I could get up. My sister borrowed my thermometer so I couldn't check temp so ended up sending my husband to hers for it after work at 1am on his way home. By that time I'd stripped her down to her nappy for 45 mins so she'd cooled down. We left her a further hour just in nappy and she seemed a lot better and temp only 36.7 -don't know what had happened but I well and truly panicked! She's been fine since. Drama over.
I've given up on trying to keep the baby awake during night time feeds. It just seems to annoy her and wake her up more. She's getting better at taking more milk and has put on another 8oz in the last week so is definitely a guzzler
I have been trying to get a little afternoon and/or evening nap every day when she's sleeping to top my energy up for the night time session but I do struggle to get to sleep. I've been finding that I'll do the housework in her morning nap so that helps keep my sanity knowing that it's done for the day. Later on I just want to chill out and watch tv but have been forcing myself to nap because I feel that it makes a big difference.
Welcome Stampynono & notapinkgirl
how have you both been getting on this week?
Stampynono- is it your actual nipple that's sore or the ducts? If it's the nipple then I found Lansinoh cream and giving that boob a break (just espressing) helped a lot. Putting breast milk on it is supposed to help heal it too. Load it with Lansinoh every time you remember. I've been massaging my boobs in the shower (not as weird as it sounds!) to make sure I don't get any blocked ducts then espressing after. Massage in towards the nipple to get the milk forward.
TheFabledSnake - I think it's a while before they stop waking up so much but I have found that DD is staying asleep a little longer sometimes. I got 4 hours consecutive sleep the other day & felt like a new woman! Unfortunately the 4 hour sleep was just a one off.
Notapinkgirl - hmm, I'm not sure what you can do to change that. Have you asked your midwife or health visitor about it? My DD only stays away for max 2 hours at a time (her choice not ours) unless something is unsettling her or we have visitors in. Maybe she has colic? Does she bring up wind? Does she cry a lot during her awake time? I struggle to get much non-crying awake time unless she's on the boob. At 20 days old I probably shouldn't expect much though.
I find that we have to shoogle her to sleep a lot though and always change her bum before feeding and not after. How old is she now? Is she taking enough milk to get 'milk drunk'? My mum is always telling me to wake her when feeding so she gets milk drunk but I find it hard. I spent yesterday with my friend and her toddler & that's certainly one way to keep the baby awake during the day with a loud toddler in the room! Not good advice I know but it's true. I hope it's been going better this week
