Oh good luck today mrsA ! I'll be in your position in 2 weeks time. ...eek indeed!

So think dd is coming out the other side of her virus: temp hasn't been above 38 for 2 days now and we've even had some readings of 36 point something on occasions; the conjunctivitis is clearing up and she's just started eating again (albeit only yoghurt and banana - good job she is a "chubby" baby and has some reserves! ). Last night she even managed 3 stints of around 1.5hrs in her bed asleep without needing to sleep on us! Now it's the cough that she has to get rid of. ..it's really waking her up and once she starts, it can end up in a 45-60 minutes coughing fit Sad

On a happier note, I went out for Sunday lunch with my best friend yesterday - my birthday present from last year's birthday (it'll be this year's birthday in 2 weeks! ). Absolutely delicious and I was surprised at how relaxed I was being away from a poorly dd....

Hopefully everyone else who's sick (both babies and mums! ) is on the mend. ..happy Monday all Grin

Hello all.
I haven't been around for months but I wanted to hop on here as my DS's first birthday approaches. I genuinely don't know how I would have got through the last bit of pregnancy and the first bit of mother hood without you all. It was really important to have somewhere to come where there was no judgement, common sense and most importantly a a sense of humour. Thank you for being fabulous virtual mummy friends.
A huge well done to you all for surviving this first year. Please accept a virtual party bag from the party we are having at a the end of this month.
Xxx

Ps I am hoping on being around a bit more from now on!

Annarose2014 · 16/11/2015 14:02

Great to see you again cat!

I'd have been lost without this place. Am sincerely hoping Year 2 is tons easier!

I already notice a difference though. DS plays on his own quite a lot these days. As long as I am sitting at the kitchen table he just potters about nearby. The bliss of it!

Arkkorox · 16/11/2015 14:32

Anna im jealous, dd just wants to bite the table legs ....

Any babies had their MMR jab? I'm worrying about it as it made me very poorly when I was little

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 16/11/2015 16:42

Yeah baby plays alot by himself and gets into mischief too!!

Mmr is due at 13mths and we will have it the vaccine is different to years ago. We will have it but then I am v v pro vaccination having nursed very very sick children with these illnesses (often to young to have had vaccine) my worst was a 5week old with whooping cough meant I didn't hesitate to have my vaccine when pregnant.

Strawberryfield12 · 16/11/2015 22:07

Totally agreed about the thread, it's been a lifesaver in so many ways!

DD used to play by herself a lot before she got carried away with the walking saga. Up until 2 months ago I managed to read, cook, bake, knit, plan weekends away and so on and so on. Now she sits with her toys 15 minutes max and then starts the whinge to give her a finger to hold onto while she circles around the house. As if it wasn't bad enough, yesterday she started to run instead. The only good thing -the mum tum leftovers might be going now.I might be ready for her to go to nursery

Arkkorox · 16/11/2015 22:55

Well chickenpox is a barrel of Fucking laughs isn't it Angry

MrsAukerman · 17/11/2015 06:56

Oh no ark !
Is she all itchy? You done oaty baths?

Arkkorox · 17/11/2015 07:27

She's not itchy yet but thank you I will do them if she does. She's just crying lots and lots and is feverish.

ladydolly · 17/11/2015 08:34

Oh ark you poor thing!! If its any consolation dd's only seemed sick for about 24 hours then it was all about the spots. We got some antihisthamine from the doc to help and it made her drowsy which was a bonus. The last few days were actually quite nice, snuggling on the sofa without worrying I was going to catch it. Hope you don't have a bad dose to deal with.

How did you get on MrsA?

Welcome back catg! And couldn't agree more. You guys have been a lifeline. I'm sure dp is sick of hearing 'the girls in my mumsnet group said....'

Arkkorox · 17/11/2015 08:42

ladydolly That gives me hope! lol think she was up every half hour or so through the night. I'm knackered and so is she. I keep saying that to dp too, he mutters bloody mumsnet under his breath Grin

MrsAukerman · 17/11/2015 09:17

First day back was huge success. Day off today and his regular Tuesday playgroup are having 'school' photos done so early nap to make sure we're on time. Gonna put his green fleecy elf / Xmas hat on for them!

haventgotaclue1 · 17/11/2015 09:26

Oh crap Ark Sad, chicken pox doesn't sound great at all. We're on our 8th day of dd still not being right....the cough is SO annoying as it wakes her up in the night (and yep, we're doing all the raising the mattress, putting bowls of water in her room etc Smile) - BUT, she did 2 lots of 4 hour sleeps last night!!!! The first time in a week Grin. Still only eating jelly, ice cream, banana and yoghurt though (and they're going straight through her - literally)....ho hum....

Like the rest of you have said, this forum is a complete lifesaver Grin - I don't have any family really and none of my friends have babies (I'm a bit of a late starter in that aspect!), so having all of you to test things with and ask dense questions has been (and hopefully will continue to be) absolutely brilliant Grin - THAK YOU EVERYONE!

happypotamus · 17/11/2015 10:05

DD is poorly AGAIN this week. Got home from work (at a more reasonable time than last week) last night, and apparently she had been pale and clingy and miserable yesterday. She had a temperature last night, screamed and cried for a while, slept with us for a bit, was a little bit sick this morning. No nursery again this week. I am at work all weekend so am off on her nursery days this week (the nature of my job is that I have to send her to nursery on days when I'm not at work). This means I don't have the nightmare of trying to find alternative childcare when she can't go to nursery but I, selfishly, had planned to go to town without her to start christmas shopping and I need to get the house cleaned to a standard that can't be achieved while looking after an ill baby. I wonder where she gets all these illnesses from. I can't blame nursery this week as she hasn't been for a week, and last week they claimed no one else in her room had had a vomiting bug.
DD is currently quite happy, dragging the clean washing out the basket and spreading it over the floor, but she is as pale as a ghost. I am wondering why I thought it would be a good idea to work with ill children and have to come home and look after my own!
Hope the chicken pox is not too bad Ark.

catg83 · 17/11/2015 12:23

Thank you all for the warm welcome back. Sounds like we have all got poorly babies at the mo. DS is just getting over conjunctivitis from nursery and is in the middle of a horrible cough. 10 times worse at night so everybody is a bit tired. Went to the Dr with it (only because a Dr heard it when they checked his eyes and told me to come back if it hadn't got better in 2 weeks) and was made to feel like a paranoid idiot. "It is just a cold", "we cant give you antibiotics", "it's to be expected if they are going to nursery". The only reason I went beck is because they told me to!

ladydolly · 17/11/2015 14:12

Dd seems to be FINALLY recovering from the ongoing cold and cough. I decided this means she doesn't need to come in with me during the night but she didn't get that memo and was up every 30 mins or so from 3 am onwards (and 2 hourly before then). I held fast and didn't take her back in with me but I am exhausted!! Must stay on it. Next step is moving from boob all night to bottles during the night and eventually to water. (If this doesn't work I never claimed this)

OP posts:
haventgotaclue1 · 17/11/2015 14:32

catg83 dd is also getting (hopefully) to the end of her conjunctivitis - it's horrible isn't it? I've never had it, but the thickness and stickiness of it all is / was awful Sad. Also has the cough and yep, also night-time coughing - last night she had a coughing fit for 45-60 mins. For the last week DH and I have been sitting up with her on a 4 hour shift pattern throughout the night....can't wait til that kicks the bucket! Hope my DD DOES get the memo, ladydolly, when the time comes! Wink

haventgotaclue1 · 17/11/2015 15:19

Hmm Hmm Hmm.

So, today is dc's first full day at nursery. As she's only just started eating again (jelly, ice-cream, banana and yoghurt ONLY for the last 3 days), I packed her off with this lot. When I asked if she'd eaten anything, the reply comes back "oh yes, she ate all her lunch" - THEIR pasta lunch AND pudding - not the "I can only manage jelly and ice-cream lunch"..... I'm really hoping her appetite has made a serious and rapid improvement rather than it being her playing me already - she's not even one yet!!!!

haventgotaclue1 · 17/11/2015 15:20

But I'm (obviously) very relieved she's actually eating "normal" stuff again - even if it is only at nursery for the time being. Good job she's going Wed and Thurs too Grin

Arkkorox · 18/11/2015 06:07

FlowersChocolate and Wine to those of us with poorly babies. I am knackered, dd up every half an hour crying. Really hope today is the end of the fever, we seem to have gotten away with just 20 or so spots so she's not covered in them but they look sore.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 18/11/2015 06:37

Ark unsure if suitable for under 2 but ask gp - virasoothe is amazing well worth £10 a tube. Also puts some oats in a muslin and tie to tap under running water for a bath. Ask gp for antihistamines they can't be brought over counter for under 2. Give paracetamol and ibuprofen as needed. First 2-3days are worst

Arkkorox · 18/11/2015 08:12

Thanks east have got some aqueous calamine cream and that seems to be helping, have done a tesco shop with oats etc so have that coming. She's woken up with them all over her face Sad

Strawberryfield12 · 18/11/2015 10:11

Ark and everybody else with poorly babies really feel for you. Lots of Brew and Cake.
