The icing on the cake is I feel like death warmed up today. Exactly what I needed. Sorry I'm being such a moan at the moment Sad

Annarose2014 · 20/11/2015 14:39

But this is the right place for a moan!

I'm having bereavement counselling and this morning I basically ranted for an hour. It felt BRILLIANT. Who would you subject that to in real life? Nobody. If we didn't vent we'd gi crackers.

DS rarely crawls now when there's any option of cruising around upright. He has a marked preference. We were in the library the other day and he walked all around it holding onto the lower shelves, whilst I shit myself he was going to accidentally rip a book.

He can waddle 6 steps from the armchair to the TV console on his own but thats all he seems inclined to do hands-free at present. But thats enough for me!

Annarose2014 · 20/11/2015 14:45

BTW, the comments have started to come thick and fast lately. Even the GP was at it.

"gosh, he's very busy isn't he?"
"Oooh, he's into everything, that one!"
"he's getting very toddler-ish, isn't he?"
"Bet he keeps you on your toes!"
"Oh boys will wear you out, won't they?"

I've nothing to compare it to - are girls really so different? People imply girls just lie there, no trouble at all! I call bollocks on that one, tbh.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 20/11/2015 15:45

Well my baby is now 1 :) he was very rude and didn't reward me with a full night sleep!

He has enjoyed his presents especially his toot toot garage and he has had some lovely clothes.

He has got to wear some frugi tractor dungarees I had been saving today and bearing in mind they come up big lengthwise the 12-18mths won't be lasting til 18mths!!

Been into town for lunch and went to a red hot world buffet place never been before it was ok not amazing but not horrid and baby filled himself up on noodles and prawns and spicy chicken and sat eating like an angel for over an hr with lots of cute comments from others although did lob his, empty plate at some poor bloke luckily I wasn't in charge dh was as I had gone for more cake!!

Ds1 has been v excited that his brother is 1 but was highly disappointed he had to go to school more so because dh wasn't going to work but a promise of party food tea and he was fine.

Annarose2014 · 21/11/2015 13:22

Ugh. Mortified at water babies this morning. All the other babies are younger and really placid. My lad is the one thzt wont go on his back and needs his dummy throughout to stop him crying.

Then in the changing room, I popped him into the playpen whilst I got dressed and he kicked up such a stink at not being picked up that the other mums were throwing rattles into it to preoccupy him.

I got half dressed, soaking wet, and then struggled him into his nappy and clothes, and the whole time he was crying like I was torturing him. I suddenly realised I was that mum other mums feel sorry for. Blush

I caught a glance at myself in the mirror and wished I hadnt. I looked like a mad woman, all red from exertion. Ugh.

Then he sobbed in the car park when I attempted to put him in the car as all the next session was coming in.

My first public embarressment. Not the last either!

haventgotaclue1 · 21/11/2015 14:37

Anna exactly the same thing happened to me at one of our early swimming lessons - from that day on I've always taken a toy with me so she can be pre-occupied whilst I'm getting ready Wink

Halfstar the practice cake ended up being a 3 layered chocolate sponge - tastes alright too! And as it is pretty "thick", thinner slices means it will definitely feed 10 Grin...although do need to practice my piping skills... the "Happy 1st Birthday" has significant room for improvement...

Had really odd situation yesterday: Dd was absolutely fine, crawling around etc until about 11.15am. Then all of a sudden I noticed her teeth were chattering, then she started shivering and literally all the colour drained from her face and lips. I gave her some lunch (left-over lasagne), which she ate, and then promptly threw up. Took her out for some fresh air and she fell asleep (unheard of these days) for 30 mins. Got home and she was absolutely roasting - temp of 39.6. Gave her Calpol and then she slept for another 2 hours. By 6pm, her temp was back up in the 39+ range. More calpol and again at 11pm. Woke up this morning at 7.35am (!!!! - LONGEST lie-in ever!) as bright as a button with temp of 35.8 and acting as if nothing had happened. So far today, she's kept this up....

Currently, I'm blaming absolutely everything on teething and starting nursery...

Strawberryfield12 · 21/11/2015 15:40

Halfstar she woke up at the usual time the two wet mornings, I guess she must not be too bothered, at least to a degree happy like pig in the shit. But there haven't been any leaks since I gave up on diluting the milk, last night she only had 9oz bottle before sleep and the other one around 3am. Much better night than with her constantly waking for more and more milk.

Anna I think every mum sooner or later has that experience. I have had anyway Grin

It's been about a week now that DD goes to sleep about 9- 9.30.pm and gets up 6.30- 7am. Every day we hope she will either have a long nap during the day or will go down early in the evening. And none of it happens! Argh, exausting...

ladydolly · 21/11/2015 19:35

anna We get the same comments about boys and girls in reverse, boys are less active/inquisitive and girls are into everything earlier!!

Babydolly's birthday today, I felt quite emotional this morning, this year has gone so fast. We went to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park where she slept the whole way round the ice kingdom we paid for. Lunch at Hard Rock where she held up the entire queue by insisting on more and more high 5's from the hostess. Adorable to me, annoying to everyone else. She loves the train too so we had a lovely day. Minor guilt for not making a cake or having a candle to blow out but made up by how much she LOVES her little tikes car!!

She took her first steps yesterday, I don't think she realised though :)

ark How are you doing?

haventgotaclue1 · 21/11/2015 19:44

ladydolly · 22/11/2015 06:53

Oh dear, 4.30am chunder all over daddy!! She seemed fine when I handed over 10 minutes before but ended up totally empty before falling asleep in my arms for an hour. Woken up fine! I've not given her milk or food yet though.

Arkkorox · 22/11/2015 07:22

Happy birthday babydolly for yesterday! Hope she's okay and you don't have anymore pukes!

We're on the mend here I think, I was really poorly on Friday night, temp of 39 and couldn't get it down, I couldn't stand up at one point. Had the doctor come round cause I wasn't safe to drive and I refused to bundle still infectious dd out in minus one temps. He thinks I'm just utterly exhausted. So I spent Friday night in bed hallucinating and convinced my legs were on fire according to dp. I have no recollection of this! Bless him he cleaned the whole kitchen, sorted dd and looked after a very poorly me. First time I've properly thrown it all at him and he coped pretty well!

Anyway dd just has a couple of spots left to crust over, and they're all on the underside of her toes poor girl! My throat is sore but no lasting damage from whatever the hell that was on Friday, maybe I had the same thing your dd had havent

Two weeks till dd is one!

Strawberryfield12 · 22/11/2015 07:59

Ah, Ark that sounds tough. Glad to hear things are upwards now and well done your dp!
Happy birthday babydolly!

happypotamus · 22/11/2015 10:32

havent my Dd has got exactly the same thing as yours by the sound of it. Shivering, boiling hot, pale, then vomited overnight. I was at work and DH rang the ward to ask me how worried he should be. I rushed home this morning (bloody hell, taxis are expensive!), and she is ok at the moment. Every time I go to work she is ill, perhaps I should just not go anymore! Neither DH nor I have had any sleep, in-laws can't risk catching it so won't be doing childcare tomorrow and I rearranged tonight's shift to tomorrow night. Now I don't have to leave my poorly baby to go to work again tonight but am not sure when I will get any sleep before Monday night (I just have to hope she is not still ill by Monday night). According to haven't, DD should have a long sleep soon to recover (crossing my fingers desperately!)

ark poor you! Hope both you and your DD are better soon.

Happy birthday babies, have fun celebrating.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 22/11/2015 12:42

Ark sounds like the nasty 24hr bug that's doing the rounds in varying degrees I had it thur shaking high temp projectile vomiting the lot and 5yr old had to help me with baby!

Has anyone else baby got really sore knees poor baby has one that is so dried out its cracked and really red like eczema and those nurses amoungst us that soreness you get from washing your hands a million times on a 12hr shift! Have tried some creams with no success he only been crawling 2weeks. Will show doc tommorow as going for his asthma review plus want his nappy rash checked. (Skin issues could be because I have slowly introduced milk into my diet just cooked in food.)

haventgotaclue1 · 22/11/2015 18:57

happy hope your dd is better now - it lasted about 24hrs here as she woke up fine this morning and ate more for breakfast than she has in weeks. Mind you, we had the "I'm not at all tired and want to play and if you put me down I'm going to scream" situation going on between 10pm and 2am last night. What a joy. Even when she did decide to sleep it was only when we sat in the chair holding her. As a result, dd has 2 very shattered parents (we've been doing 4 hr sleep shifts for the last 2 weeks) so tonight we're biting the bullet and calling it a day: back to the "hardcore" sleep training technique we've been using since she was 6 months old - stopped when she had the hacking cough. VERY apprehensive and expecting even less sleep tonight, but we felt we had to do something. ... will let you know tomorrow how it went!

haventgotaclue1 · 22/11/2015 19:02

Oh, meant to say dd has completely gone off eating her tea. Anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do to get things back on track?

For example, tonight she ate a grand total of 4 baked beans (after I almost forced them passed her lips); 1 finger of toast and 2 grapes. That's it. Bit concerned considering that she was eating 2 large hot meals a day until about 3 weeks ago when she first got the viral infection - she's definitely much better now though so I was expecting her appetite to return. ...

happypotamus · 22/11/2015 20:53

So DD has been fine today, a bit tired and miserable but didn't have the long sleep havent's DD had but not seemed very poorly. After being awake for over 30hrs I had a couple of hours nap this afternoon. I won't expect a huge amount of sleep tonight, then tomorrow I am up at 7, if not before, and will be awake for about 27hrs. That assumes she is well enough for nursery. If she isn't, I will be awake over 36hrs. I think I will iron the school shirts (about the only thing I iron) then go to bed.

Arkkorox · 23/11/2015 08:51

happy did you get any sleep tonight?

Do you reckon I could pop to the shop today? Dd is pretty much all healed apart from two bloody stubborn blisters that will not bloody pop! They are on her big toes, im putting tights on under her trousers anyway, reckon If I put socks over the top too that would be okay? I promise I won't rub her on anyone!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 23/11/2015 11:02

Ark def yes when ds1 had them he was 3 and we went to the park on day 3 and into town on day 4 he was well and had crusted over and day 5 he was back in childcare.

Poor ds2 has a high temp been at docs for inhaler review agreed to stop n see what happens as not made a great difference. Got anti fungal cream for nappy rash some cream for poor cracked knees and some paracetamol vv reluctantly prescribed refused to prescribe ibuprofen. Makes me cross as they don't like to prescribe it as you can buy it but if you are on benefits they don't seem to mind so much it's assumed as you work you can afford it I have never asked for it and we buy asda own at £1.80 a bottle but the local chemist is £4 a bottle and £8 is alot money to have spare. Sorry just ranting as annoys me!! We don't have that medicine scheme anywhere locally either.

Annarose2014 · 23/11/2015 11:07

Ark I'm sure thatd be fine. You must be going mad in the house.

havent I'm a big believer in custard when a child if off their food. Its so sugary that most kids cant resist it. Put sliced up bananas through if you want.

I also microwave frankfurters when things are bad - I always have them in the freezer, and put green pesto on everything else.

Oh and mini potato waffles are usually successful. At least if he's freaking out being in the chair you can have a picnic on the carpet and those are relatively clean to eat down there.

We have good days and bad days foodwise. We ALWAYS have to have a Plan B in case he gets the hump with whatever we have for dinner.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 23/11/2015 16:45

Anna I must be mean as I make ds2 custard without sugar and just ebm and stir a hipp organic fruit pot through it n nursery do the same he had it daily though so def don't want too much sugar.

Skips are great for fussy eating days ds1 had baby crisps til he was 3 ds2 already chucks them but devours skips (well aldi fake version), also roasted courgettes and cocktail sausages n grapes.

haventgotaclue1 · 23/11/2015 18:49

Thanks for the tea time tips ladies Smile. Today she ate a good breakfast and loads for lunch. Wouldn't touch the cheesy pasta and root veg mixture i made, but would eat a small yoghurt and some grapes. ...will just have to persevere.

ladydolly · 24/11/2015 10:48

Babydolly is really not into dinner at all. She eats an unbelievable amount during the day, last night she only had one slice of malt loaf and 2 rice cakes so I was worried she'd wake up in the night more because she's hungry but actually she woke at 10.30 for a long feed then down til 5am!!! Took me 45 minutes to get her back down but then slept til 7. She's started waking, whinging and going back to sleep, she never used to do that - dare I suggest we're making progress???

OP posts:
haventgotaclue1 · 24/11/2015 13:11

Yeah, go on Ladydolly, definitely dare to utter those words Wink - I'm about to do the same!!!

So, for the last 2 nights, since we implemented the sleep training technique again, we've had 2 nights of 12 hour sleeps!!!! I beginning to wonder if we were actually the cause of the sleepless nights by picking her up and sitting with her in the chair...maybe we were doing her a complete dis-service...

Re dinner, I'm thinking babyhavent is pretty smart and is actually holding out for her BF before bed...she eats loads for breakfast and lunch but last night actually gagged at the cheesy pasta (which she'll eat happily at lunch time) but would eat the yoghurt Hmm.

I'm wondering what's going to happen when I finally stop BF her. We're now down to just one BF a day (around 6pm before bedtime routine starts) and I'm planning on stopping completely over Christmas. Anyone with experience of this? Did you give a beaker of (warm?) cow's milk instead?
