La she actually gets a bottle so infrequently it doesn't matter too much! DP works away during the week and we don't always get around to it at the weekend so she has maybe one or two a month at most? I have loads in the freezer. We wasted a few 6oz pots when she was being a bit funny about bottles so I started freezing in 3oz portions (I usually pump 6oz then split between 2 bags) but she will easily take two of those now so it just means more work in defrosting the bags! I'd highly recommend them though - if you freeze them flat they take up hardly any room and they defrost and warm up really quickly just by holding them under a hot tap. I generally pop the pump in the steriliser any day I wake up with a full boob and add to the stash. When I do miss a feed I usually need to pump some off as I fill up quite quickly. I'm going out this weekend and will be taking my pump in a bag or I'll end up doing a Jordan impression..... I'll use some for cereals and things when I start weaning her and I'm not sure how well I'll get on at expressing in work as I generally don't get much out when she's not with me so I'm building up some excess for when I go back too.

I went to a Slimming World class tonight. They were having some sort of party so everyone was eating... Seemed a bit strange really! Anyway - bf isn't shifting this belly (it's doing the best it can - with all the shit I'm eating I would otherwise be packing weight on!) so I need something to give me a push away from the magnums....

TheBooMonster · 17/08/2015 22:01

pis they have taster sessions every so often, people tend to bring their favourite low syn or syn free meal, groups are amid their woman of the year awards, mine's this week. Earlier in the year is the man of the year award and there were taster's then too. Stock up on Quark and Highlights Hot Chocolate powder the Quark is free and the highlights is 2 syns, and it makes a pretty good mousse substitute, it's my go to normally but I keep forgetting to buy the quark...

E feel asleep in a sulk because I was trying to get her to have a bottle. Forgot how cute she looks asleep!

ZylaB · 17/08/2015 22:20

pis keep me company! Had my third weigh in today.

boo we had a taster session last week and that's what I made! Added some fat free fromage frais to it too though, and raspberries.

TheBooMonster · 17/08/2015 22:36

zyla I halved artichoke hearts (tinned not in oil) and marinated them in chilli garlic and parsley for our last one, oh and chopped strawberries in a good stupidly expensive balsamic vinegar. I'm all out of ideas for this time, though I think I'm going to have to go to tomorrows group rather than Thursdays as my parents are bringing our tv and I'm hoping if I supply dinner they'll put it up, so hopefully the Tuesday group will remember my overachievement from the last taster session and not hate me for not taking something i'm not sure I even have fruit for the box of forgotten fruit I've been a bit half hearted at sticking to plan recently:s

WilHarlot · 17/08/2015 22:43

In awe of everyone bothering to sort their weight out. I am so far still in lazy cow mode.

La with Mini I pumped every night before bed to use for a bottle the following night. Over time, my supply did drop doing this to the point that her night bottle often ended up being half breastmilk and half formula. Assume it's because a baby gets more out of you than a pump in general. My friend always pumped in the morning first thing and managed to get enough until weaning started. It becomes harder then I think. So there is a chance that regular pumping will affect your supply in some way although usually you can work it back up by feeding if necessary.

Boo, I have that weaning book. Things which have been successful were: cabbage, red cabbage and apple, carrot, mango and strawberry, aubergine and the potato and leek depending on her mood. I'd go for any fruit or vegetable though, try them all she has to like some.

Should be asleep by now, will regret this later!

Pisghetti · 18/08/2015 00:07

Yes it was woman of the year thing! I was feeding B when everyone was eating so I didn't get to try anything (plus being veggie I didn't want to be that awkward one asking what was in everything...) but there were some interesting sounding stuff. People were saying they got inspiration from the website. Plus everyone was waxing lyrical about some dip which was actually just yogurt and mint sauce!!

How are you getting on Zyla?

LaLaLaaaa · 18/08/2015 01:34

Hmm well that was interesting!

Went to bed at 9 leaving dh with baby. Fed him top up on demand before I went. Point was for dh to give late feed of expressed at 10pm.

Woke up at 10 to screaming. Went down to find dh looking stressed holding screaming baby and bottle. Wanted to know what he was doing wrong as baby wouldn't take bottle and was screaming. Baby wasn't hungry and hadn't actually asked for food, baby just tired and wanted cuddle.

So I taught him again about feeding cues, left them to it and went back to bed. Had wonderful two hour sleep and woke up in panic wondering why no baby in crib. Went downstairs to find them both on couch, baby asleep and apparently hadn't woken up since I left!

So we put baby in crib and came to bed. I've just woken at 1 because B hungry and dh is dead to the world. So I've just fed B 60ml of bottle and 1 boob.

So we know baby will take bottle but the whole point was meant to be dh giving it....?

How much would you normally give in feed? There was 140ml in bottle but I didn't want to over feed him

Good on the folk doing Slimming World! I haven't the stamina. My idea of weight control is just not eating much for ages, then I get bored of that and pile on weight eating magnums and nachos

DS seems to be pretty happy with his combo feed (I let him have some boob to finish) as he's gone to sleep. Zzzz

Pisghetti · 18/08/2015 01:49

140 seems quite a lot for a very young baby? I guess every baby is different though. B has only just started taking 5-6oz at a time at nearly 5 months but she's not a very big baby.

I've not done anything like SW before. I've had success with plain calorie counting in the past but I also have problems with disordered eating which can be triggered by calorie counting so I'm hoping the more relaxed style will help.

DulcetMoans · 18/08/2015 03:33

We do 2-3oz in a bottle at night la, seems to usually be enough.

LaLaLaaaa · 18/08/2015 04:30

That's what I thought too. I stopped at 60ml which was about 2oz and just gave him boob for comfort more than anything else. HV said its easy to over feed from bottle because they just suck it down.

He just slept for 3 hours hooray!

OP posts:
TheBooMonster · 18/08/2015 07:01

la we tend to have that issue, though mainly it's DH not succeeding with the bottle in the first 30 seconds and me managing to get E to take the bottle after a few minutes dancing round with the bottle but not at the moment as she's on bottle strike

wil I'm worried about giving her nonsavoury things before she's happily eating savoury though she did get strawberry porridge the other day because A is a bloody nightmare with food after we gave her whatever she'd eat, but perhaps I need to give her what she'll eat and keep trying with the rest rather than just skipping the things she doesn't like straight away [worried] I hate weaning, if I could give my boobs to someone else every time I needed a night off or to work I think I'd be one of those mums who tries not to wean ever...

pis in our group it's salmon pate and mayflower curry that people are obsessed with!

I find that slimming world isn't so much a diet as a different approach to food mindfulness. For instance I eat all the salad and strawberries and ham instead of grabbing chocolate, and I'm losing weight even though I'm not sticking to it that well (though I must admit I've stalled a bit the past month or so) you also get a huge milk and cheese allowance when breastfeeding!

Minion · 18/08/2015 07:11

Morning.
Don't want to jinx it but we may have turned a corner.
R woke up about 10:30, tried not to feed her but I'm lazy and it did the trick.
Then she had a couple of not being able to get back to sleeps so the husband went downstairs in case she came in with me.
She only bloody slept till 6:50
She woke a few times chatting to herself but I left her and she went back off again.
Still feel like shit as I kept waking too but..
Still

LaLaLaaaa · 18/08/2015 07:27

Nice one min!

I appear to have woken up before the baby....

Boo with P and weaning I gave her a chance to try everything, the only thing she wouldn't eat in the end was puréed spinach (Ella's Kitchen) I tried her with it twice and she spat the whole lot out. Funnily enough she really likes spinach that isn't puréed and eats it with us. She's such a greedy guzzler she eats anything and has steaks and all sorts now. Just persevere and each kid is different, your LO may just be a breeze! I'm expecting R to be a nightmare especially as I need to start weaning in 2 months and he's not allowed anything with dairy in it Hmm
I was one of these mums that would try and make everything from scratch. And then I realised I wasn't very good at it and was too knackered so the Ella's pouches came out. Was so expensive though, I was spending about £30 a week! Think this time in going to get a blender and just blend up whatever we are having.
Hurray for good sleeps and boo for shite sleeps. Our night wasn't too bad as R wasn't here. But Pnstill woke up twice due to teething (I think) anyway I put my foot down and let her cry it out. Took 10 seconds. Usually ST runs in and sleeps with her in the bed in her room but I put my foot down. P knows not to mess with mummy Grin

WilHarlot · 18/08/2015 08:28

Sounds like good nights all round. Wasn't too bad here either although had to keep her with me after 4.30 to avoid waking the big one.

Boo the lentil recipe is quite good too. I started C on all the savoury stuff. She liked some and didn't like others. Still prefers all the sweet stuff now. I'm not convinced weaning has an effect on later eating. Mini ate virtually everything as a baby - mostly annabel karmel recipes - and now is the fussiest child on the planet.

WilHarlot · 18/08/2015 08:30

Also it took about two weeks for C to show much of an interest in food. Before that she took about two mouthfuls at a meal.

RPopz · 18/08/2015 08:34

I know I'm always banging on about baby led weaning but... have you tried any finger foods Boo? MiniP pulls faces at everything for the first time but he's not rejected anything yet.

Reasonable night here too. Hopefully the crazy bed times were just a temporary blip!

RPopz · 18/08/2015 08:35

Same here Wil - mini took 2/3 weeks to actually eat anything. Before that he mostly just played with it!

Minion · 18/08/2015 09:15

R has just lunged forward, off me, over the side of the bed and on to the floor.
Thankfully she put her stunt training into action and did a slow fall. I'm so worried, it was just before her nap and now I'm freaking about concussions etc.
This is it isn't it? Beginning of eyes in the back of my head. It looks like she may bypass the whole crawling thing, she's a pro at pulling herself up using, me, OH, anything, everything. She tries to crawl but ends up on her tummy, wailing and skydiving.

TheBooMonster · 18/08/2015 10:24

min A spent the first year of her life after she learnt to roll with face bruises from throwing herself off the bed and door frame incidents in the bouncer, babies are pretty bouncy!

Thanks for all the food reassurance viroids pops I desperately want to try her with finger foods but every time I try everyone round me has a bloody heart attack, the Ella's Kitchen book has all manner of 7+ months finger foods though so when she hits 7 months I'll be all "the book says so bitches, sit down" she's not even quite 5 months yet, but she seems to be settled by food during the evening.

pixie A was dairy and soya free it was a bit of a pain but we got round it, but she did end up living on pouches because We put cheese in everything... Holland and Barrett does dairy free soya free cheese and yoghurts if you discover problems with soya.

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 18/08/2015 10:26

Hi all

I need to read back, so much to read, so little time!

La, I found that giving a bottle of expressed milk at night did affect my supply, but then I don't think my supply was ever that great in the first place. Maybe just keep an eye on it, as Wil said the pump is less efficient at getting milk out than a baby, plus doesn't get all those love hormones going. Sounds like you have loads of milk though, so hopefully will be fine.

Bit worried about baby Snap. Choking/ gagging is better since starting Carobel but vomiting is worse and at times he's so congested sounds like he can't breathe. GP and HV aren't happy about his weight but half the time he takes half a feed and then just stops. I can't force him. Also, last night he slept 6 hours - he's only 6 weeks old - and missed a feed. I woke up in a panic when I saw the time, roused him, and even after all that time he fell asleep again after half a feed. 3 vomits this morning, so essentially lost another feed to that.

I don't know what to do because I don't understand what's going on.

Minion · 18/08/2015 14:48

Hey snap
Any other things you don't feel are right?
Congestion is common for babies but it can be linked to reflux/allergies too.
Any skin excema? Any crying during feeding? Arching back away? Fidgety?
I hope it's nothing though, x

RPopz · 18/08/2015 15:00

Oh snap Sad That sounds stressful. Poor minisnap. No advice but keep on pestering the GP/ HVs if you feel things aren't right. xxx

Min - I think miniP has a rubber head the amount of times he's smacked it on the floor Shock

Ah Boo - that's annoying, we sometimes get that from people when we're eating out, or from the grandparents who are used to puree weaning.

WilHarlot · 18/08/2015 20:12

I hate that I sound like a stuck record but could be allergies Snap. It's pretty common. Although poor weight gain could be reflux too, especially if it's pretty bad. Try ranitidine or a dairy free formula?
