Oh kayzed, hope things improve for Roshi soon. Good that you're able to keep her hydrated, but this must be worrying for you

xmasstocking · 19/12/2006 17:41

KZ - really hope that it isn't anything serious with Roshi - if it helps, Josh is consistently taking 5oz every 4 hours and has been for the last couple of days now (before he was ill, it was 7-8oz)and he has 4 bottles a day. Like you, I am worried that it is not enough but he seems perfectly happy and not hungry and still sleeping through so I guess it is - taking him to be weighed tomorrow to see what damage this cold has done!

Have to agree with the baby rice - it smelt horrible when I mixed it up so no wonder Josh pulled his face - tried him on pear and he loved it!

Festive - glad the settling went well at nursery - Josh starts in the New Year and they said I cold stop for the first hour session but not sure whether to or if to just leave him - would you recommend stopping that first time?

Splat - what a cutie. Must get Josh to wear his suit and get some piccies.

{{{hugs}}} Kayzed, you've had some worrying times with Roshi haven't you. Really hope she's tons better very soon.

Xmas - yes I think I would definitely recommend staying for the first nursery session, not for your LO but for you really. I was all set to leave her for the first one (as I had misundertood what the nursery said, ie leave her for the second settling session not the first) but the nursery manager was very keen that I should meet the staff. Having done it I can understand why, it really does make a difference if you can meet them, see how they work and chat about your baby's likes and dislikes. Good luck with your sessions BTW I keep meaning to join the 'Jan back to work' thread, will do it soon.

figgypud · 19/12/2006 19:33

Evening all

Kayzed: {{{hugs}}} to you hope Roshi is OK!! Evie went right off her milk too when she was ill only been in the last two days shes into it again! GP said as long as they have two wet nappies a day its not a concern?

Splat: Evie is on two meals a day now! Think I've balls up the weaning a bit but thats for another thread! We're planning on giving her a mini crimbo dinner but she is 6months (last sat!)

Not much happening here, Evie still not really rolling over but shuffling to things instead so I guess shes not too bad! Not much else apart from that did housework while DP took DD to finish his xmas shopping! Who said motherhood isn't glam??

Speak soon all

Evening all and KZ
Just to say hope Roshi soon picks up. Have been told thats why babies put on so much chubb, so that when they are ill they can afford to use up some of the reserves. Nevertheless its awful when they arent taking anything. SMA really makes my Roo's reflux play up - cottage cheese burps and all. Since on Farleys he hardly possets - but when he is sick he does it with style! On his really bad days he took in half his usual amount, and had 4oz every 2 hrs. Sometimes tho, it was only me doing dreamfeeds (during day) that kept supply up. Perhaps try to get some fluids in Rosh that way?

Really hope she picks up soon.

KZ - ((((hugs)))) I really hope Roshi picks up soon. I can't believe how many worries you've had with her - she's such a sweet little thing as well.

Ditto to everyone's comments re baby rice. Aidan was not impressed at all. He took it the first time (novelty I think), but the next day he gave me an evil look and wouldn't have a bar of it. He loves it mixed with fruit though (pear or apple so far). No Xmas dinner for Aidan - it's too early with the weaning. Will try him with some pureed carrot though.

Anyone whose LO is only taking small amounts of solids - have you kept them off solids whilst they've been ill? Aidan, unfortunately, has come down with my lurgy (as has DH - boy I'm popular here ) and he's really off his milk so I didn't give him his solids today. Trouble is I don't know what is his normal intake as I've been mixed feeding him.

BTW, I have now stopped bf as he hasn't been able to suck - too stuffed up poor lad. But get this - it's been 24 hours and I don't feel at all full - I suspect Aidan has been getting next to nothing from me for some time .

I went to look at a nursery today. DH and I had a chat and we decided that we should try to get Aidan in for one or two days a week so DH can get some part-time work while I'm back at work. It felt really strange, but I'm starting to get used to the idea.

Oh, and thanks for all your kind thoughts re the work situation. Yes they are a major PITA - and that's putting it politely! Maewest - I plan to have a lovely Xmas and not think about those.. erm.. "idiots" even once!

babalon · 19/12/2006 22:37

Hi girls,
Hope life is treating most of us well. Haven't managed to read all messages but
I've got the just of most.

I'm due back at work on the 26 th of feb with annual leave so feel quite lucky that I've still got some time off being full time mum. When dd and ds1 were babies I took it all for granted and worked about 12 hours a week in the evenings but this time I'm doing 3 times 10 hour shifts Only bonus is that my sister is having Logan 2 days and my best friend is having him the other. Logan is so sunny natured that I have no worries about him, but I'm having my sisters little boy 2 days a week when she goes back and the baby just crys the whole time that I've got him he really hates me, what can i do?

Took Logan to the hospital for a check up on his talipes and they are looking good right foot still dodgy but nothing to worry about at the moment he will be able to have his boots and bars off for 8 hours a day from the 9th of January hooorrrraaayy And he has started standing when I hold him up and putting weight on both feet this has to be a good sign!

He is teething alot, for who ever asked the bottom middle 2 teeth come through first followed by the top middle 2. Solids are an success Logan's on 3 meals a day plus 4 to 5 six ounze bottles sleeps alnight and is a dream in the day. And my god I love him for it!

I'll sign off now but just want to say Merry Christmas to you all thankyou for being there over the past year it has really meant alot. Just think this time last year they were all just dots in our tummys. How far we've all come

Love Lindsay, baby Logan and the Spicer Clan

TwinkleInSantasEye · 19/12/2006 23:00

Hello Babalon. Nice to hear from you - I was wondering about you the other day as you hadn't been around for a while.

It was me that asked about teeth. I knew that the bottom and top front incisors should come first (my dad's a retired dentist - can you tell? ) but I thought Aidan was being weird because it looked like a first molar was starting to push up. My dad thought I was being stupid and it looks like I was (dim first-time mummy) because there's no sign of it now.

Glad to hear everything's going well for you with Logan - what a good boy!

caygill132 · 20/12/2006 09:50

Hi everyone...not really posted much before and my computer has been out of action for 2 weeks!!! Bought a new one now so hopefully back to normal now. I have been lost without it. Haven't had time to read all the posts, just a quick glance through...Amy has had cold the last 3 weeks and is totally off her milk, except at bed time when I can't stop her sucking. She has started to bite my nipple though...not very impressed and since she won't take a bottle I'm kind of stuck with it. Trying to teach her the word No!! not having much joy with that though. She rolled over for the 1st time on Monday, and then did it again yesterday 3 times...we just had to coax her with the remote control and over she went...hoorah!! Will be off to read all the messages..or maybe not..she has just started singing. Oh a funny storey..well I chuckled..after her bed time feed last night I put her in her cot and after 2 mins she was screaming. Picked her up and rubbed her back..no joy..so thought maybe she's still a bit hungry. So sat down to feed her again and felt her take the strain...she forced out 3 pumps and then aahhhhed with relief. She must get it from her dad!!

Have a good day everyone!

TwinkleInSantasEye · 20/12/2006 09:59

LOL Caygill! Nice to hear from you again. Think Aidan takes after his dad too!!

NineKoshkasDancing · 20/12/2006 11:50

Hi everyone.

Jake is ok after his jabs...apart from he moved while it was in his leg and now its a bit red!

Some pictures here hopefully

Not got any yet of him in his reindeer outfit, as he was sick on it yesterday which was gross as he was in the carrier in Boots at the time (blegh).

Been signed off work for 2 weeks and feeling a bit better but gutted I cant drink but have bought some elderflower fizzy stuff so i'll feel special on christmas day.

I'm so sorry your babes are still ill, im sending get better vibes from me and jake to you KZ and everyone xx

Thanks Maewest for thinking of me, and I am one of those people too that cannot stop at one drink!

Better go. I have read everyones messages and looked at pics but I cannot remember who was who - but the pic of the baby in the sink AWWW! and my mum is jealous, she wants the sink!!

Bye x

kbaby · 20/12/2006 12:41

Ds is talking loads now, hooray we are so relieved to hear him chatting, infact we cant keep him quiet, its fantastic! I tried him in his door bouncer today and he loves it.
He has his last lot of injections today so I hope hes as good as last time. My mum has both this evening so we can go and do our xmas food shop.

Quick q- for those still bf, do you feel bad giving your lo?s ff. ive started giving ds a bottle in evening and yesterday when mil had him I was panicking thinking ?oh no that means hell have 2 ff today? I don?t know why I feel like that as its hardly poison and I go back to work in 4 weeks so hell need to be on ff all day then. Am I the only one to feel like this.

Krimbo- I hope roshi is better today. Sometimes ds is sick 2hrs after his feed and it appears undigested hope this helps.
Twinkle- its always handy to have a nursery ready for the days when you or dh are too ill to look after lo, that way you?ve always got a backup.
Babalon ? good news re logans bars coming off.
Koshka- he is lovely, you must be very proud of him.

TwinkleInSantasEye · 20/12/2006 12:55

Kbaby - hooray!! You must be so relieved. Sounds like he's making up for lost time now. I definitely used to feel like that about giving formula. It was quite early on in my bf career as well and I used to panic that my milk would dry up. But you're right, it's not poison - far from it. There are far worse things to feed one's babies and children (not that you'd think so from some of the threads on MN!). But I must say I still don't feel great about preparing bottles of formula, even now that I've no more milk for him.

Koshka - Jake is gorgeous!

Well, Aidan's got his appetite back a bit today thankfully. I do hope he doesn't get the cough that's followed the cold for me, otherwise we'll be joining the vomiting up the whole of every feed brigade!

sammysam · 20/12/2006 13:04

Hi all,

Pictures are all lovely-we have the same rudolf outfit-its really soft and lovely!

Well-went to the GP first thing monday not expecting alot of help but he sent us straight to the childrens unit at the hospital and we've only just come home

As i thought she just wasn't keeping anything down and was very dehydrated so they took blood etc and put her straight on a drip. poor little Soph Joel almost pased out when they put the canular in her hand-so much for being brave for us!

They had us trying to get a wee specimin from her (no nappy-dps face when they said this was a picture!)-waited for 2 hours and nothing, dp left the room to make a call and then the explosive diarrhoea started and thers me with a filthy baby and me surrounded by a sea of foul smelling sh*t-thinking now what about to cry!!!!!

Anyway they said its a nasty virus and she should be over the worst of it now (touch wood) she hsn't been sick since last night but i've only given her small feeds (she has a very sad fece when i take her off the boob!) So hopefully all is well (except dp was sick last night-but he's rather optimistically putting it down to a dodgy subway on the way back from the hospital-i really hope so cos christmas will be fun if we're all ill

Anyway sending our love to everyone else-its not fun being ill at this time of the year especially-sophs still got a cold on top-blowing lovely green bubbles from her nose-so lets just hop we and everyone else is better by christmas!

(on a very low note-b'mouth football team came in to see all the children....but missed our room...and they had their shorts on!!!! )

xmasstocking · 20/12/2006 13:30

Sammy - so sorry to hear about Sophie - glad she appears to be on the mend though. You must have been worried sick. Just to let you know that me and Dh had the 'wee specimen' expereince when DS was in hospital a few months ago - we sat there for ages and nothing, DH was sat with the little tub and was starting to daydream and I could see Josh's willy go hard and before I could say anything to DH out it came and we had to start all over again - not quite as bad as your experience but very frustrating!!

Kbaby - yeah - glad your lo is chatting away - you must be very relieved - just goes to show that babies all develop at very different rates.

Had a bit of a shock when my payslip arrived today - I was expecting it to be more than usual as I thought I returned to full-time pay on Christmas Eve and had instructed my colleague to tell payroll - but it was actually less - when I looked into it my maternity leave actually finished last Sunday - god knows where I got Christmas Eve from - so had inadvertently given myself no pay for a week! Anyway, they are going to amend it but feel very that my maternity leave has now finished - it feels like the end of a part of my life - that sounds very dramatic doesn't it!!

Afternoon ladies

What a frosty day-a lady rang my door bell to say she had had a bump in her Vitara. Had skidded along our wall, knocked next doors pillar down and ended up facing the opposite way. Our wall is fine apart from markings from the bumper and she was highly delighted when I told her that she hadn't actually knocked their pillar down-they had done it themselves a while ago. Hoping DH doesn't ring her about the wall as we can live with it.

sammy-how worrying for you. Hope Sophie gets better soon but how stoopid of them asking for a specimen-doh!

xmas-I got my last salary today. All £153 of it and £30 of it was a tax refund. Skint all the way for me now. Good luck with your work plans-doesn't time fly?

kbaby-what a relief for you. I BF but have to use FF sometimes. Don't really like to but takes me a week to express 8oz doing 2oz per session. Sophie doesn't seem to mind though. DD1 was on SMA from birth as I didn't BF her. Don't worry about it.

kosh-Jake is really lovely. How proud must you be?

krimbo-how is Rosh today?

Made some mince pies for Christmas visitors but was so busy trying to feed Sophie and silence the whinge child that they are a tad overdone . Off to Tescos tomorrow for the big shop so more mincemeat could be on the list!

DD1 is far too quiet so had better go. Will catch up later.

xxx

FrostytheSnowman · 20/12/2006 15:03

By the way, is it just my Sophie to roll before we start a new thread or are there some other non rollers? She is obsessed with the remote so may have to try this bribery method. After the intial roll from tummy to back ages ago she hasn't done it since. I'm looking for the back to front job!

sammysam · 20/12/2006 15:19

No my Sophie hasn't rolled onece yet!!!!

AnnieIdeasForAnXmasName · 20/12/2006 15:24

KZ Sorry for the stupid 'advice' earlier, I hadn't read all the posts and I thought Roshi was just off her food cos she had a cold... I really hope she gets better soon, try not to worry too much.

Kbaby, I bf ds for six months, and then Kayley for only six weeks, and then had to ff her, and for a while I really felt it wasn't good enough for her. But she's grand! Don't feel guilty about it, you've given her a great start, and done really well to go on this long. Glad your DS is chatting now too, you won't be able to keep him quiet now!!

Koshka, Jake is a cutie pie!!!

Sammy, hope your Sophie gets better soon too.

Must go, there's more bum sounds...

Annie

figgypud · 20/12/2006 18:52

Evening all

Kosh: LOVING those pics esp the last one, beautiful
Kbaby: I'm still ff and bf and felt terrible when I first introduced FF but much better now decided In fact I'm def giving up BF this week (I know I know I've said it before but back at work on 3rd of Jan!) Must admit tho this last week Evie's just not been interested, think she's use to the flow of milk from a bottle now and just gets frustrated with Bf!

Well what a day in this household, Finally AF returned today and feel wierdly relieved about it! Only been what 15months
Me and Evie tried baby led weaning and had such a success she practically fed herself mashed fish, potatoes and beans followed by banana was so shocked and pleased and no one to share it with as DP was working! Also had a long bout of rolling over which was fab!!!

Haven't recieved my payslip yet but DREADING it!! Was officially back this month though an on annual leave so hoping its not TOO bad. Frosty how come yours was so small? Are you on unpaid leave now, you got me panicing!!

Anyhow better dash want to grab a quick bath before tea!
Night all

maewestyemerrygentlemen · 20/12/2006 20:12

figgy - I've been reading lots about BLW, the idea of giving 'real' food does appeal, sounds like Evie enjoyed it
