Sounds like we're all awash with puke and snot at the mo - ain't motherhood just so fricking glamourous . At least I have DH to help out this week, as is off work. Told him (only half joking) 'I hope you don't think you're on holiday'. DS yelled for his bedtime feed last night (6.30) then fed like I'd been starving him all day. Then he woke up an hour later and it took 2 hrs to settle him for the night(well until he next woke about 12.30). At about 8pm I gave up and just went to bed with the boy. At one point he coughed up huge amounts of milky snot all over my front - yeeuch! Really snotty and congested all night, had to use the dummy and let him sleep propped up against my stomach. Managed to transfer him to the cot a few times so I could get some sleep. Then to top it off he woke up having mysteriously grown out of his disposable nappy in the night (either that or ineffective application by DH ) and had a real builders bum. Completely soaked through to the sheet with pee and soggy green poo - what a wake up call! The boy himself was looking pretty chipper. Unlike me, I just changed him, fed him and handed him over to DH and crawled into spare room for a couple of nights sleep.

And to top it off I am having nightmare with online xmas pressies this year, aargh!

sorry for rant, will calm down now. Where has calm yoga breathing maewest gone?

maewestyemerrygentlemen · 18/12/2006 13:09

obv a couple of hrs sleep!

Took Sophie for her jab-bless her. Not used to her crying so quite distressing. She is fine now though

While I was waiting I looked at my red book and Sophie isn't on the 25th centile at all-doh, what planet is my HV on????? She is just below the 9th so I suppose it is an improvement from being on the 2nd!

mae-PMSL at the 2 nights sleep. Thought you were being sarcy. Yuk-green poo! Hope DS is OK now. I think online Christmas shopping has to be done by September at the latest to guarantee delivery-GGGRRRHHH!

TwinkleInSantasEye · 18/12/2006 16:49

Hellooo. No I bloomin' didn't go into work. I saw a colleague on Friday evening who said it still says 10 January on the board (don't know where they got that date from because I haven't given them a definite one yet!). I suspect that the woman in Personnel was just being a jobsworth - my boss probably hasn't bothered getting back because we discussed it informally. Anyway, no one has phoned today so presume all is OK. I'm still waiting for some contact from work though - aside from my letter, it would be nice to be told officially that my line manager has been promoted and that this will give me loads more work. My DH heard this on the grapevine from the company he works for!!!

Us - maybe he was having trouble digesting the baby rice? I've been advised not to give much solid food too soon before bedtime. Just a thought...

So sorry for all of you with poorly LOs. I came down with a stinker of a cold on Sunday and I'm praying I haven't given it to Aidan (or DH of course).

I think I'll be packing in bf soon. I know I said I was going to a few weeks ago, but I thought about it and realised I didn't actually want to! But Aidan just doesn't seem that interested any more. Just the last couple of weeks he's been desperate to get at his bottle and hasn't been taking all the milk I've got available (which I'm sure isn't that much now). I'm really sad about it though, and I never thought I'd ever say that. Those of you who have given up - did you still let your LO comfort suck or did you just give up altogether?

xmasstocking · 18/12/2006 17:11

Hi everyone

Bloss - bigtime grr at your DH - they can be so thoughtless sometimes can't they?

Twinkle - glad you didn't get a phonecall today asking where you were - I found out today that work think I am returning on 16th January when I agreed the 24th - not sure how that happened - need to get it sorted I guess!

Josh is much better today - everyone else - hope your lo's are too. He is not as sniffly or coughy and is managing to keep his milk down although he is only having about 20oz as he is just not interested in anymore - guess his appetite will return in time. I rung the doctors this morning about his jab and they said that as long as he didn't have a temperature then it would be better for him to have the jab this morning - so I took him in and he was as good as gold - no crying just lots of smiles. Thank god it is his last one for 7 months!!

Also took him to my works lunch and he was passed around like pass the parcel! Didn't grumble once and everyone commented how good he was ([proud mum emoticon]) - he only started grumbling when I was trying to eat my lovely turkey which is par for the course when we are in restaurants these days - I am becoming an expert in eating one-handed as he won't stop grumbling until he is picked up and sat at the table!

I also bought one of the all singing all dancing M&P prams - it looked fantastic in the shop but it is VERY bulky and seems to take up a lot of room in shops although it does seem better now that I use it as a pushchair rather than a pram - but I am determined to get my moneysworth out of it before I buy a stroller!

Hi all,

Thanks for the message, Us

We have been up and down. Baby rice goign well, but his appetitae in the morning seems to be really small now, so last night I gave him rice in the evening and he kept waking up with what I assume was indigestion - bad mommy.

Have been a bit miserable today because I finally made the effort to go to a local 1 o clock club and was REFUSED ENTRY!!!! It was their Xmas party and I hadn't booked, don't know if I will bother again.
And I think he is allergic to peanuts
which I am bklaming myself for - have posted on the allergy threads. grrrrrrrr and

But on the plus side, we had a big pub lunch with friends on Sat a`nd he was soooooo good, no ears etc. Even other people in the pub were commenting to us how good he is

Also, we have put up our tree, the lights are really bright LED ones and when I put DS in his bouncer in front of it he goes crazy and laughs non stop whilst bouncing, I think the lights make light trails - pretty trippy I guess!

How things, kbaby? We still are waking up a few times a night too. I am going to buy that book "The gentle no- cry sleep solution" and give that a try. Am going to start a swimming class with him in January too, apparently they sleep well after?

Sorry, long post, havent been on for a while and havent even had a chance to read all your posts either

SleepInHeavenlyPeace · 18/12/2006 18:37

No TEARS that should read. His ears were all present and correct.

Hello All
Just popping in to say hi. Hugs to all those having a rough time both with lack of sleep and pukiness! Plenty of both in our household too over last few weeks esp pukiness when straining for a little nugget of poo! Well at least we can take some comfort from the fact that we are all suffering at the same time - perhaps they will grow out of it soon, whatever IT is!

Merry christmas to you and your babies from me and my baby Reuben!

Hi Kz - he is a little angel! July was defo a good month for producing a bumper crop of beauties! By the way you have a lovely way of writing your messages - really funny, and are also very knowledgeable. Wot a responsibility you have on your shoulders - being our MN agony aunt (i mean that in a nice way!).

Hope Roshi soon starts to feel a bit better. We have had incidents of being sick immediately during feed or after, (sometimes whilst bottle still in mouth) no warning whatsoever. Roo's cough also starts off a sicking up episode - happened three times day before yesterday. So annoying as they are usually sleeping peacefully until that cough kicks in. Dr said it was congestion loosening up and dripping down from nose onto back of throat. Have you any idea why they are sick straight away - I wondered if they are over hungry and their little tummy's have produced too much acid and poss excess wind? Usually happens on first feed of day - after extremely long period without food. Or it could be they are full of congestion, which is yet another reason why he is sick - if he gags on a bit in his throat then soon after whole bottle comes up......

He sounds soo much like your Roshi its unbelievable. He squeals for ages before it evolves into hysterical cry - wont calm down cry. I have only just realised it is either tiredness, hungryness or both - worse case scenario. If thats the case, then I put him in bouncer, settle him down with dummy and see if he goes to sleep. If not, then I know its hunger and try to feed him in his bouncer - it usually works! Im finding gripe water is helping him - both pooing, burping and settling his tummy. Might be worthwhile giving that a whirl if you havent already for acid. Well if you find a cure - please please let me know. We seem to have a few good days with not much sickiness, then goes downhill again. Do think that puking all the times wrecks their immune system - so more likely to be ill IYKWIM. I have been giving some petit filous so that he at least gets calcium and some calories - if not much milk intake. Straight from fridge - so helps soothe throat or gums.

Frosty - several people have said to me that jarred food made their babies more sickly than homemade? Not sure if you feed your Sophie with jars but if you do, hope this might help you.

maewestyemerrygentlemen · 19/12/2006 10:25

Morning all - slightly better night last night (altho that maybe because DH was up and down between 10.30 and 12.30 shushing and sticking the dummy back in whilst I snoozed, tee hee). Going to a homebirth postnatal group today, sometimes a bit lentil weavery even for my own hippyish self, we'll see...

Splattered - what a gorgeous boy! And figgy, deffo one to keep to show future boyfriends .

KZ - got your email, thanks. Sounds like Roshi is doing ok, but must be knackering for you. I find NHS Direct to be a bit 'oh, we don't know what this is, better go to A&E' I suppose that they are just covering themselves. We have to take the boy to the paed unit tomorrow for yet more blood tests (checkups on checkups after his jaundice). His liver function tests are improving, but they are still keeping an eye. Last time we had a fab nurse who just got me to bf him whilst they filled up a large syringe with his red stuff. Didn't even squeak until he fell off at the end .

Twinkle - your work sound like they are a right PITA, should know better than to mess about with a woman on maternity leave, legally speaking. Hope you have a lovely first xmas with Aiden, without thinking about work.

And Kosh, hope you're keeping ok. Keep up with the ADs, they will make a difference, and if they don't after a few weeks, go and badger your GP again. You may find counselling helps too - have you been offered this? Also, I know from bitter experience that drinking and ADs don't really mix... altho maybe that's because I could never stop at the one drink, . Hugs to you and Jake, you're doing so well.

FrostytheSnowman · 19/12/2006 11:26

Yes, I do give Sophie jars and a little bit of our whizzed up food if suitable. Am wondering (well, my mum is ) if it is the Petit Filous that are too rich so am going to avoid those for a week.

Have to and agree that krimbo is a fountain of knowledge and is always ready to lend an ear and give helpful tips-as are all of you of course

Sophie at this moment is just sicking up her breakfast-nice.

Twinkle-hope work get their act together. When I went back to work when DD1 was 1 year old I wasn't on MN so went through my private hell on my own. So glad I have you girls to turn to when the dreaded time comes.

Better go and clean up.

Byee

IamBlossom · 19/12/2006 11:39

morning. I have just cleaned the oven. I am a goddess of domesticity. Actually, was FED UP of DH telling to clean the oven so I thought I'd clean the oven.

Toby has a STINKER of a cold still, a horrible hacking snotty cough, streaming nose and eyes, off his food and a bit mizog. Argument with DH this morning was based on his comment at 3.30am that perhaps I'd be better off looking after my children than planning my next social activity. He's not coming off too well in my descriptions of him lately is he? Got a doctors appointment for Toby to check his chest out after lunch with the girls.

God KZ, you are going thru the mill with the lovely Rosh recently. Better to have a doctor out and for it to be nothing than the other way round. Sorry to hear about everyone's sickness, TOby coughs ALOT at the moment but thankfully doesn't puke....

Toby up at 5.30am for a bottle, DS2 up at 5.50am.....the day starts TOO BLOODY EARLY CHEZ BLOSS!!!

xx

IamBlossom · 19/12/2006 11:42

I am so anxious to prevent either of my boys waking the other up which ever wakes up first, that yesterday I bolted out of bed in my sleep, and found myself walking along the landing at 4.15am....for no reason!!! Both boys asleep!! I'd obviously dreamed one or the other had woken and was winding up for a yell.....went back to bed....briefly.....

splatteredsnowball · 19/12/2006 12:29

Hi
Thanks MaeW for lovely observation!

Frosty - hope you find the cause soon...I suppose its a process of elimination. Cant wait for them to speak and just tell you whats wrong!

Hows everyones weaning going ? Anyone on 3 meals a day yet or planning to give LO a Xmas dinner?

Just trying to work out best routine for the meals - friend suggests approx times:
7 - bottle
8.30 - bfast
10.30 - bottle
12.30 - lunch
2.30 - bottle
5.00 - tea
7 - bottle

Still only tasting in our house at mo - bit like a meze on display (sp?) in afternoon, as get carried away when something goes down well! Have tried carrot (ok), parsnip (hmmm not sure), potato (yuk), pear (yumm), apple (tarty), Hipp Fruit pots (yumm) and of course petit filous. Tried HIP bfast cereal this morning - had 3/4 but then no milk! Ooops. Will now continue with bfast every day, and tea at night (well couple of cubes of something anyway plus bottle). Do miss those rooting signs tho - as now get squeals and one finger pointed towards mouth as a sign of hunger (i think?!).

AnnieIdeasForAnXmasName · 19/12/2006 13:51

Hi all
Just a quickie
Haven't time to catch up on everyone.
Kayley sat on her own today, for 28 seconds!! Then she did it again and again...
Then she wobbled over and fell asleep from the exertion! The weaning isn't going too well, still just one spoon of rice a day, if she even takes that.
DS has started to say two words together now as well, like dada gone, or dada beer (or even mama beer). This morning he came in to our room, saying mama mama, mayme (that's Kayley), telling me she was awake!!
AND she must have done some kind of a somersault in her cot last night, as I went in twice and she was on her belly with her feet at the wrong end!
Must go, I hear bum sounds...

Annie

maewestyemerrygentlemen · 19/12/2006 14:16

No weaning here, DS will be 6 months at end of Jan, so will start slowly after excitement of xmas has died down. Must get high chair sorted out.

Annie - as I understand it food during the first year is just about getting used to different tastes and textures, as most of their nutrition still comes from milk. Maybe Kayley just isn't bothered about babyrice? I've seen some and I wouldn't fancy it .

maewestyemerrygentlemen · 19/12/2006 14:16

Or maybe she's too busy performing acrobatics to be bothered about food

Krimbo- You may be right, it could be that he isn?t that tired as hes slept for 3hrs and wants up but obv being the middle of the night we are trying to get him to sleep longer. If I remember, DD used to wake at night for about 2hrs but was happy to play on her own in her cot and then put herself to sleep but then she also used to put herself to sleep at bedtime. I do remember some sort of pick up/put down that we did with her but cant remember how old she was. If he could put himself to sleep that would prob help but how do you teach them to do that at only 5 months old

IamBlossom- Your dh sounds like mine. Pmsl at toss pot.

Well I may start weaning after xmas, the nights have been a bit better in that its only been bedtime where he wont settle but hes still waking every 2 1/2hrs so I think food is required. I had my back to work meeting today. I am dreading going back but also looking forward to getting adult company again. Ds rolled from tummy to back again today and is finally making some noises not many but its something.

Maewest- I think a could of nights sleep was needed after all that

Sleep- We have that book but to be honest I didn?t find it helpful, it suggests obvious things and then says if it doesn?t work leave it and try again soon, the point is you need it to work.

What lovely pics everyone, DS was diagnosed with broncolitis(sp) last week which is basically a really bad chesty cough, he does seem on the mend now and our vomiting instances seemed to have ended. I put being sick down to coughing so hard which induced retching hence all the feed coming back up.

AnnieIdeasForAnXmasName · 19/12/2006 15:15

LOL Maewest!!
You're probably right about the rice, it isn't exactly Terry's Chocolate orange is it! Though I did try her with pureed apple before and she didn't like that either. I'll have to try something more appetising. Splattered, your list sounds like a good place to start.

KZ I'm no help with your dilemma I'm afraid, all I can say is try not to worry too much, as it's the season for illnesses. No point trying to force feed her, when she doesn't want it. Give her time, I know it's been a few days, but hopefully she'll get better soon.

Is it possible for babies to get bored of milk??

Bloss, I'm like you!! When I hear one of em stir, I'm in there like a shot before the other one wakes!! Either that or DH is poked in the ribs when my arthritis is playing up!!
Ds also has chesty cough so I took em both to the doctor yesterday, but she said they were fine, it's just the time of year... I'll try and remember that when he coughs his lungs up again this evening.

Back to work on the 31st of December! Can't believe it! I won't go in though, sod that. I'll go in the following week. Nobody will notice, they'll all still be on holiday in Italy (mostly Italian colleagues!)

Sorry still haven't time to read everyone's posts, apart from a few at the top. But I hope everyone's LO's get better soon.

Bye for now

Annie

FestiveAtForty · 19/12/2006 15:17

Hi Ladies

Annie ? Emma?s the same re eating, have only tried baby rice so far but it?s very hard for her to get any down. She opens her mouth enthusiastically but then drools it everywhere - nice! May try mushed carrot by way of variety.

Kayzed ? only thing I could think of to help poor wee Roshi get some fluids down is Gripe Water and cooled boiled water in a bottle if she?ll take it ? I think Gripe Water is quite a palatable taste for them. I know it?s not nutritional but would be a bit of water for her. Fingers crossed she?s back to her usual self soon!

Figgypud and Splat ? sweeeet piccies!

Mae ? yes I think 2 nights? sleep is more the ticket than a mere couple of hours!

Lol Bloss at the sleepwalking, it does get like that doesn?t it, your life starts to surreally revolve around those little cough-y waking up cries?

Emma is totally random re putting herself to sleep ? sometimes she just won?t go off, just cries for ages, if it?s in the evening we usually just end up getting her back up again and let her watch telly till we go to bed (bad habits?). But just now she spent an hour watching me doing the ironing from her pram, she looked a bit tired so I put her in the moses basket and she?s lying there quiet as you like, about to drift off. And I though my ironing / singing to the radio combo was so entertaining?

We went to nursery yesterday for her first settling in session ? only for an hour with me there. Was a bit alarmed by the older babies (about 11 months old) flinging themselves around all over the place and landing on their heads . But I guess that?s par for the course once they are a bit more mobile. On the whole it wasn?t too bad, she?s young enough not to be too clingy with me and she played happily with the staff.

Hugs to all with sicky babies, and grrrrrs re the slack DP/DH?s, especially where cack-handed nappy application is concerned?! Mine had a big go the other day about the amount of time I spend with my ?nose buried in that laptop?
