Welcome beadmum

kbaby - poor you,dd and ds. the sleeping will get better eventually (have been repeating this to myself a fair bit recently!)

sammysam - I'm still bf too, and don't plan to wean til 6 months. I've been using reusables for a couple of months now and find them brilliant Babies don't really talk properly for ages yet - don't worry! At about 6 months (give or take a couple of months) they start babbling, eg "mammamama" "dadadada". Lots of the sounds they make sound (amusingly) like words...like when Leo took one look at my sis and declared "ugly!"

Wallace · 11/12/2006 16:14

And meant to say Leo slept from 10 to 2:30, then went back to sleep til 8!!!!!! Dare I hope that he is going to start sleeping again [touch wood]! That was without trying him with a dummy. I also think that he may have got himself back to sleep at 2:30 had dh not started chatting to him

Wallace · 11/12/2006 19:48

Leo is asleep If he stays asleep this will be the first baby free evening for ages...hooray Gin

maewestyemerrygentlemen · 11/12/2006 19:57

Would that be with tonic Wallace?

Wallace · 11/12/2006 19:59

LOL (with the "r" this time!) Now that sounds like a good idea.

figgypud · 11/12/2006 20:00

Hi all

Welcome Beadmum my DD was due 9th July! But born on 17th June! Hoe are things going?

Right a really quick one as DP STILL hasn't done his crimbo shopping and needs to order stuff of net!?!

Bit of a long story I afraid:

Had a weird day with Evie today, shes been really clingy and crying if I go out of her sight, not drinking any milk either. Then gave her lunch at 12 put her in pushchair and walked her to sleep from 1-3. Woke her up at 3 and she spectalulary {sp?} vomitted loads, gave her some milk and she was sick again so put it down to a backwards step thinking it was her reflux rearing its ugly head again. Gave her some tea (sweet potatoe with loads of milk and no lumps!!) at 4 and she hadn't even had half and she was REALLY sick so much she couldn't catch her breath and went blue!!! Grabbed her and lent her forward and slapped her back and she was sick again! Rang GPs and literally ran up there! By the time we got there she seem fine all smiles and raspberries, typical! GP has put it down to teething but was really nice and sadi bring her straight back if any probs?! Maybe I'm being dumb but surely teething can't cause that can it?

OK rant over!
Hope you're all well BTW sorry
Jane

Wallace · 11/12/2006 20:07

F@ck he's awake Thionk I will have that gin.

figgypud - could it be a tummybug?

figgypud · 11/12/2006 20:14

GP seemed adamant she was too bright to be ill

Wallace · 11/12/2006 20:19

Quite often with kids and tummy bugs they feel better as soon as they are sick. Never heard of teething making babies sick odd GP

TwinkleInSantasEye · 11/12/2006 20:46

I think a lot of things are put down to teething that really have nothing to do with it, figgypud. Hope your DD is better now. And {{{hugs}}} to all the rest of you with poorly LOs.

Welcome Beadmum!

Sammysam - I use good old terries with Motherease wraps. I find them great, but I do use disposables when we're out and about.

I hardly see my MIL (thank God!). She lives hundreds of miles away and we go down there as infrequently as possible - does that sound terrible ? She's OK really, just really really self-centred and miserable a lot of the time. It gets quite depressing.

Well Aidan had his first taste of baby rice today. I saw the HV again this morning and she said it would be OK to start him very gradually. She said again that it might help his sickiness - I'll have to wait and see I suppose, but I do hope it does. He was very keen on the experience, not madly keen on the baby rice but he didn't cry or push it away so I think he was OK with it. He grabbed the spoon off me as well, depositing the contents on my lap! Must remember to wear an apron next time!

Must go - cooking quite a late dinner tonight.

I use-prefolds and wraps (laundry service) with disposables at night at the mo, and sometimes when out (depends where we're going). Those who do use cloth, do you use at night? And if so, do you need to change them during the night?

sorry x-posts KZ, sorry to hear things are not so good with your dc, hope they feel better soon.

Wallace · 11/12/2006 21:12

Leo is back down so everyone...shhhhhhhh

KZ - your poor children, this time of year is awful with viruses.

twinkle - LOL at Aiden. Now I've remebered the real reason I'm not weaning til 6 months - it's so messy

maewest - don't get me started on cloth, we'll be here all night During the day I use pocket nappies (stuffables) - fuzzi bunz and another type which are fleecy on the outside too. Somebody gave them too me and they are good because the fleece on the inside keeps his bottom so dry. They are too leaky for nights though. Recently I got a trial pack see here and having been trying out overnight. I find the terry nappy, tots bots, and fluffle (not altogether!) with the motherease airflow wrap plus a (homemade) woollen wrap keeps him dry all night. Oh and I also use a microfibre cloth to boost them.

Better go - little monster awake again...

Wallace · 11/12/2006 21:15

KZ - how heavy is Roshi? She must be a lump Leo is still in 3-6, but I thought he was big!

Wallace · 11/12/2006 21:22

figgy - I've been thinking. Evie's teething could be making her more dribbly, and my hv said that saliva changes ph when teething. i guess this could be aggravating her reflux?

xmasstocking · 11/12/2006 21:35

Figgy - hope DD is feeling better. Don't want to doubt a GP but I have never heard of teething causing sickness like that. Do you think it could be a reaction to something she has eaten?

KZ - poor DS - hope he is feeling better too. Sounds like possibly him and Roshi have got the same thing. Have to agree with Wallace - Josh is still in 3-6 month babygros/clothes and everyone keeps commenting on how big he is!

Twinkle - glad you got the solids going - I only gave JOsh baby rice for one day as he pulled such a face as if someone had shoved a bitter lemon in his mouth. I have tried pear and sweet potato now and he seems to love them both.

  • you lot are so good using reusable nappies!!

Josh has been such a b**r tonight. He is usually in his cot by 8 at the latest so I had loads of things planned that needed doing and of course he decided to stay awake until 9 - kept falling asleep downstairs with me but the minute his head touched the cot, wide awake!! Cheeky monkey And here is me wasting time on here rather than doing what I wanted to do!!

xmas - Leo is doing the same tongiht...hopefully this time he will stay asleep...

KZ - No idea what Lwo weighs, but must be about 17 or 18 pounds. Roshi is maybe long and that is why she fills her babygros I find with Leo that he gets really chubby, then stretches, and looks thinner. Then starts to get chubby again...
If it's any consolation ds1 was 20 pounds at 20 weeks old.

chester30 · 11/12/2006 21:58

hello all,

I don't get much time to post these days......

FrostytheSnowman · 11/12/2006 22:00

Sophie is still in 0-3 months-bless her. She has a nasty cold so is dosed up with Calpol and snuffle stuff on her nose (yes, I know you aren't supposed to put it on babies noses but I do ) She has gone straight to sleep. She was up twice last night and one of the times was just for comfort so I let her even though it was 4-15am.

krimbo-your poor two darlings. Hope they are well soon.

Wallace-you are up and down like a yo-yo with Leo. Bet you are creeping round the house on tip toes

kbaby-no wonder you are poorly too, you are run down and need lifting up.

figgy-I also find what the GP said v. bizarre. When I took Sophie to the Dr last time I waited so long that she was extremely bright and well by the time we got to see him. Bit worrying though with her turning blue

sammysam-I still BF but am weaning too. I have an electric Avent pump but I struggle to get anything out. Have to pump 1oz a day out in preparation for going out but today I had to leave my mum with a bottle of SMA. Like you, when I had a sickness bug I was still up in the night feeding and laid on the settee during the day with Sophie attached. I do not want to return to work (didn't want to after DD1 was born but went and stuck it for 3 months and had a break again) so have asked work if I can do 9 hours a week. Here's hoping they say no!

Welcome to Beadmum and congratulations-what is your DD called?

I have been reliving the nightmare time with MIL all day. Why oh why can't I think of things to say at the time. She was trotting round the house with Sophie on her shoulder and when she put her in her rocker she arched her back as she obviously didn't want to be there. SIL and MIL kept rattling things in her face and honestly, it was like watching 2 school children trying to work out how to look after a baby!

On a brighter note though...................I bought a pair of size 14 jeans today as my size 16's are just too big-yay!!!!!!!!

Wrapping tomorrow for me again-it is taking forever!

Love to all

xxx

this is because the feeding has got so much quicker and my dd doesn't take kindly to interruptions.

She has been very upset today because she has an upset stomach. I ate red cabbage last night which has had a dramatic effect on dd, I can hear her stomach gurgling. She brings her knees towards her chest and howls! I hope she will be better tomorrow.

On a positive note she is nearly sitting up by herself - this only happens when there is someyhing particularly interesting to look at. At the moment my handbag and its contents are of particular interest.

I am using, or rather my dd is using bambino mios and pampers size 2. The reusables work well but I don't use these if I am travelling (staying with my parents) or overnight. I have found the reusables to be much better at controlling nappy rash, much more breathable. It is nicer for her I think to change it every couple of hours.

She has quite dry skin on her cheeks (her face!), has anyone else noticed this? I am wondering if it relates to the cold weather. I have bought her some cream today which I hope will help,

Kayzed - I read your post the other day regarding scarred nipples. I had a similar experience, bf for the first 2 months was at times agony! My dd suck was unbelieveably strong, she would suck my arm by mistake and leave a red mark.

I have been trying the weaning a bit - about once a week. It is such a palaver and a mess isn't it.

figgy pud - i hope yr lo is better. I grew up nr stafford, my mum told me there is a wonderful merry go round in the main square...

night night!

TwinkleInSantasEye · 11/12/2006 22:43

Hi Chester. Aidan has always had dry skin on his cheeks. The HV recommended I put E45 on several times a day, but I'm quite unsure about putting stuff on his skin so I've only been doing it half-heartedly. Consequently I've not really noticed much difference. I'm just hoping he'll grow out of it really. Would be interested to know what anyone else has used (if anything) for this problem.
