Had absolutely no routine with DD1 and she is fine and eats with us now and Sophie eats and drinks whenever. She has just had her breakfast and milk. Didn't want to wake her so she had her first morning milk at 9-15am. I don't worry about routines unlike a friend of mine following that book. She wouldn't give her DS milk if it wasn't time even though he was screaming and she wouldn't let him sleep if it wasn't time either. Poor lad, taking his clothes off and tickling his feet to keep him awake. But then, that is just my opinion.

xmasstocking · 29/11/2006 11:30

Have to agree Frosty - that is why I only have a routine for his food (and that is only really cos I still can't tell the difference between his hungry and tired cries cos I am a 'bad' mother!) These books are all for thinking like a baby and seeing things from their perspective but I know that if I was hungry, I would want feeding and if I was tired, the last thing I would want is for someone to keep me awake and vice versa, if I wasn't tired, I wouldn't want to go to bed

Just realised I am using the emoticon rather excessively - I'll get it all out of my system now - that's better!

I know we're not supposed to discuss certain things, but in GENERAL, I think someone like your friend Frosty is taking the routine thing far too literally. I found certain books very useful as I was floundering around desperate for some sort of routine. I was mixed feeding as well which meant that feeds were really unpredictable and I kept having to chuck out loads of formula. (I'm with you Xmasstocking on not being able to tell the difference between cries sometimes). But I think you have to use common sense as well.

I certainly don't have Aidan in a strict routine. I aim for 3 1/2 - 4 hourly feeds which usually works out OK. I'll feed him a bit earlier if I have an appointment or something. He naps (in theory!) when he's tired - have never understood how you can make a wide awake baby sleep or stop a tired one from sleeping without creating havoc. Oh hang on....

And you can't even make a tired baby sleep

I don't get hung up on bedtimes either. He gets ready for bed before I feed him then goes to bed after his last feed, whenever that ends up being, usually around 8 ish. I figure that I don't live my life on a strict timescale so I don't expect him to either.

TwinkleInSantasEye · 29/11/2006 13:15

Meant to say timeTABLE. btw ladies, can't believe how many messages we've posted on this thread in just over a week! Is this because we have no lives, or is that just me?!

Annie29 · 29/11/2006 14:29

Hi Ladies.

Lovely pics everyone!
No sleep in this household these days. After many days without Pooing, Kayley is now pooing several times a day. Tried her with pureed apple the last three days, but she won't have it, yet i think she's still hungry for something.
She had her second lot of jabs today (19 weeks, a bit behind schedule there), and she's 13 lb 11. She's now wrestling with a hanging duckface on her mat, so I guess she's feeling ok.
DH thinks I've spoiled her though, that she wants cuddles all the time. Getting her to sleep is only by cuddling. Not that she sleeps very long... oh I'm so tired...

Koshka, lots of hugs to you, you'll get through it.
Prettymum, my DS keeps waking at night too, and almost always ends up coming into bed with us. DH gets up to him though, so he can do what he likes! Just means there's no room for Kayley if I decide to go down that road of bringing her into bed with us to get some sleep!!!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.
OH KZ, I can't see your pics for some reason. I can see everyone elses.

Must go, she's moaning again. Cuddles time
Annie

Hi ladies.

I am soo cold today... Been out and about with the girls and it is really crisp out. Plus my cold has made an unwelcome return...grrr.

The Hv came to visit us today to check on Jasmine's weight and she has slipped a bit more on the charts. Heading for the bottom of the shaded (no go) pink area (for those of you with red books). She is 11 pounds 4 at 20 weeks.

The post man had a parcel for me today and was chatting away to Jasmine when I told him how old she was he was shocked. Said she only looked like a couple of months. But then she is a titch.

I am going to brave the crowds tonite, late nite xmas shopping with mum, dad and Jasmine. Leaving DH to look after the girls, so gonna prepare some crafts to keep them busy. In fact I ought to go and do that now...

You're pics are all fabulous btw, I will post some more soon. Bye for now.

figgypud · 29/11/2006 19:20

Evening ladies

Have read posts but just a quicky today!
Great pictures all, I will have to get some on!

Kosh: just echoing what others have said, we're here for each other through the bad and the good!

Pink: I went to browse in ELC today and the shop assistants were cooing then one said "shame you're to young to give me a smile" To Evie who promptly smiled at her and freaked her out!! LOL I mean shes 23 weeks for gos sakes, shes not THAT small!!!

Not much happening here plodding along! as usual nowt to report!
See you tomorrow TTFN

FestiveAtForty · 29/11/2006 20:02

Evening all

Hope everyone?s doing okay.

Emma has her first cold, poor wee thing?s hacking away upstairs and has pink eyes and a runny nose . Might explain her general grumpiness I suppose. Her dad has it too, so will probably be wending its way towards me before long. She?s supposed to have her 3rd lot of jabs tomorrow ? I?ll take her in as she has a doc?s appt anyway but don?t suppose they will give her the jabs if she?s not well.

No routines here, she?s still just on a very rough cycle of sleep, eat, play, grump, sleep. No fixed timescale for any of the phases though. She?s not very good at sleeping when she?s out and about though is generally much better tempered than when at home, v strange!

Kayzed, will ask about lactose intolerance when we?re at the doc?s. I?m hoping they may be able to do some scratch tests or something, though don?t know how that works at this age.

Kosh ? sad to hear about yours and others? bad experience with Joe Public. It?s such a shame, people are often so lovely about offering a hand when you?re pg or have a baby, it almost makes it worse when you do come across crap attitudes.

Bloss ? Emma doesn?t spend much time lying on the floor either cos of the dog. I suppose they do spend quite a lot of time lying flat when in bed though. No signs of rolling but I keep expecting that one day she?ll do an Andy from Little Britain and leap up from her crib, go for a jog round the garden and leg it back up the stairs without me noticing!

Fab pics everyone ? they?re just getting more gorgeous by the day aren?t they

maewest · 29/11/2006 20:38

Prolific posting everyone, can't keep up . Will have to be a short one as I hear rustlings from upstairs (DS was so knackered he fell asleep after about 2 mins on the boob, so prob still hungry). We only have bedtime routine, and I tend to encourage him to have a sleep after his early morning feed and change (sometime around 6ish) so this morning he slept between 7.30-8.30 (had to get him off to sleep lying on me tho, then transferred him to the cot, sneaky mummy). I also try and make sure that he has a morning nap and an afternoon nap, sometimes this involves long buggy walks. Sometimes I think he's just a bionic non-sleeper .

rustlings seem to have ceased, may try watching some crap telly with DH.

and Kosh at your bus/buggy experience, first time I took the buggy on the bus I was almost in tears trying to fold the buggy with one hand and hold the boy with the other. Luckily a nice lady offered to hold him for me. And what I can't stand are the 'tutters' who seem to think that you should be in some kind of purdah and not leave the house until the child reaches school age [generalised rant emoticon]

take care all xx

Shew, loads of reading to catch up! Just a quick one, someone has an Annabel Karmel book for sale on MN, I just missed it as I boughtone off e-bay, but thought one of you lot might want it?

here it is

off to read the posts now!

clevergirl · 29/11/2006 21:07

evening all,

festive at 40 - sorry yr dd has a cold. I hope it improves soon - my dd had a cold at 3 wks old - it was miserable. We still have telephone directories propping up on end of the cot which we used then to tilt the cot to help with her breathing.

koshka - I saw yr post today about playing with jake - it was interesting reading other peoples suggestions. my dd doesn't like lying on her front in common with everyone else here i think.
Your bus experience sounds awful - people are very inconsiderate... things will get better for you soon. Once our lo's play more it should get a bit easier to entertain them. you deserve so much better than yr ex, it must be very hard still living with him.

I am still bf - she now only feeds for abut 10 - 15mins. She keeps stoppping and starting and getting very distressed. It has been hard to calm her today - I gave her a bath this evening which she pooed in - the third night running. I would like to start potty training as soon as I start weaning - just joking! I 'm not really into yucky nappies.
She was very upset after her bath so I fed her again and then put her into her cot. It's odd because she doesn't fall asleep immediately, I went to check on her about 15 minutes later and she was wide awake and smiling at me - a very nice moment!
I would like to post one of my pictures how do I do it?

Jeez you guys talk to much

Trying to catch up but failing. Koshka your bus experience sounds crap

Anyone else got a screecher? Leo is so noisy, doesn't really cry much, but shouts and squeals a lot!

Photo of my two boys Leo looks like he is doing a comic book pose

Wallace · 29/11/2006 21:46

Meant to say also how lovely everone elses babies are Aiden lies on his front just like Leo - hands in mouth

TwinkleInSantasEye · 29/11/2006 23:53

Thanks people - he is a cutie isn't he!

Bad mummy alert! I was helping Aidan to sit up today and must have been distracted for a split second. Before I knew it he was falling straight backwards and there was nothing I could do. Bang, , SCREAM! God I felt awful. Hope I've not done him any permanent damage.

I'm off to bed now. Stayed up to watch that BBC programme on homeless families - did anyone else see it. It made me so . The system is positively perverted.

TwinkleInSantasEye · 29/11/2006 23:58

Wallace - just seen your pic. What a lovely smile!

prettymum · 30/11/2006 00:05

aaaaaaahhhhhhh why wont my bloody pc let me see some of the pics!!!

wallace i cant see your pics, it keeps going to home page!! i think this only happens with me

junior is so much better at falling asleep than dd was when she was his age.

he wakes around 8 where he'll have a feed. he then falls asleep by himself around 9.30-10am for an hour. he feeds every 3 hours and naps every 2-3 hours and is good at dropping himself to sleep by himself but evenings he falls asleep during his feed at 8.

junior loves to jump on our laps, his nan came round the other day and tired her out with all the jumping!! he can go on forever with his chubby edible legs!!

im babbling away, better go bed early in case my lovely dd decides to wake us all up at 3 in the morning and crea\te chaos!! goodnight ladies!!

prettymum · 30/11/2006 00:07

twinkle- owwwwwwww, you must have been sooo scared!!!

usandourlittlexmascracker · 30/11/2006 07:41

Good morning everyone

Well I have changed my mind again! I'm going to start weaning Zack at the weekend. I went to a weaning talk yesterday afternoon and had a good chat there about Zack's feed and sleep patterns.
The lady there was very helpful and understanding.

I'm going to go with baby rice at first once a day and see if there is any improvement.
The HV was watching Zack and looked at his weight gain, she said he is very active for his age and I could see this too. I hadn't been aware of it before but seeing him laid next to the other babies of his age there was a marked difference. Trust us to have a hyperactive baby!

She said he is burning off his intake very quickly and needing feeding very often. He does this more at night because it's dark and there is nothing else to do!

His actual weight is ok but plotted on the charts the line has been going down every weigh in for the last 10 weeks and if he keeps going the same way he'll drop off in a few weeks.

KZ- Zack generally has one boob per feed only taking both occasionally so I don't think this is the problem.

Zack awake be back later x

Wallace · 30/11/2006 08:08

Don't worry twinkle, sure Aidan (sorry spelt it wrong last time) will be fine

prettymum - that's great that Junior falls asleep by himself - I have to put Leo down asleep. Really pleaased though because last night when Leo woke about an hour after he had gone down, I left him and he got himself back to sleep.

us - good luck with the weaning, and LOL at your hyperactive baby...you'll have to show us a video clip

Anyway, better go, should be getting children ready for school but nobody is awake yet. Nnot even Leo, who hasn't been sleeping well recently, but last night he slept through again so my boobs are agony!

xmasstocking · 30/11/2006 08:36

Twinkle - don't worry I am sure babies are more robust than we think they are! Also, LOL at your comment about us having no lifes - unfortunately in my case, it is true!! DH is away most of the week these days so MN can be the only 'adult' conversation I get all day

Going to meet 2 friends today - the last time all 3 of us got togther we were all at varying stages of TTC - and now, 14 months later, we are meeting up with our DS's - by coincidence in the same restaurant - weird. Am really looking forward to it - as above, adult conversation - yeah!!

Wallac - fab photo - I wish I could get Josh to pose but most of our photos end up blurred cos he moves at the wrong time.

Ahhh! Love the hat! Was only kidding about you lot having no lives. It's true for me too though Xmasstocking. We moved to this area about 18 months ago but it's never really clicked and I don't know many people. I'm miles away from family and friends. MN is a lifeline - helps keep me sane! Actually I've met someone on MN who lives in the same town and we're meeting up this pm.
