Oh good, glad to hear the extreme nights are fading for you kitty.

So my mom went to Mexico with some of her friends on Wednesday afternoon... to Puerto Vallarta.... exactly where the largest category 5 hurricane ever in the Pacific ocean is projected to make landfall tonight. Shock I didn't even think of it until my dad called me at 8 this morning in a tizzy asking me if i've spoken with her lately, if I've watched the news, OMG there's a hurricane, OMG she won't text him back (obvs my dad doesn't say OMG, but the panic in his voice was pretty over the top). I texted her and she got right back to me saying that they evacuated this morning, the police knocked on their door saying they had an hour to evacuate. So they grabbed a taxi and headed straight up the coast where the hurricane is supposed to miss them. She didn't say what city they're in now but she just said that she feels safe and the worst they are expecting a storm surge since they're still pretty close to the beaches (1 mile away). She also said that she purchased an extra international cell phone so that she can make sure to keep in contact with us. She said the airports are closed and they're not sure when they'll open them again so she may have a very long Mexican vacation! Poor thing. She doesn't even like Mexico and was apprehensive about going in the first place but I told her that since she only had to pay for the airfare it'd be a fun spontaneous vacation since she's single and free now. Oops!

Oh wow frus X-posted!

Why, why, why do little boys insist on putting things in their ears and noses?! You poor thing! I feel like such a mean mum when I tell the boys not to do things so they won't get hurt because of course I don't want them to get hurt, but I just won't want to have to drag them to the hospital more than I don't want them to be in pain Blush

I don't think my DH would even notice if I put new things on the tree until well after Christmas and I'm taking them down! Yours must be very perceptive!

AGnu · 23/10/2015 20:20

Chatty couple of days! Smile

pear I hid some dinosaurs in shredded paper for the DC to find. I'm sure the shredded paper multiplied though. There definitely wasn't that much in the box!

bring your poor mum! Hope she stays safe & manages to enjoy some of her holiday!

Sooo... my wasp sting rash seems to have grown... that coupled with my spinning head & I'm worried it might be cellulitis. Or the head could just be my usual response to a busy week with lots of entertaining & socialising. I'm not sure yet. If it's not better by Monday I'll, shock, horror, call the GP!

Any word from your mum bring?? Honestly your life seems more drama filled then an episode of corrie!! I can't believe what bad timing that is but it sounds like she's been really sensible and is atleast able to contact you all.

Frus - I have no idea, she didn't start out girly at all very fearless ( she still is) and boyish really. Loved monsters inc, tiger superman etc then one day would only wear pink and forlorn that point on seams to have become more so. Everything she picks now is very stero typical girl, love hearts on everything and pretty things. I have a feeling the little one may be the same as she likes pointing out clothes that tiger would like and loves cuddles and teddies and also pink!
Poor DH

bringonthetrumpets · 26/10/2015 21:53

LOL! Oh dear, sometimes it does feel like a f'ing soap opera! I promise I have a very boring non-exciting life most of the time, but I suppose it just doesn't seem worth sharing on MN all the boring bits. She's ok. She and her friends managed to move further inland away from the ocean and were able to miss the major parts. She said winds were around 50-60 mph and there was rain, but the strongest point of the storm was well south of them and on the other side of the mountains. There was a lot of hype everywhere about the storm based on the size of it but thankfully once it hit land it slowed down and caused minimal damage (as far as hurricane go, I suppose). I do hope that those who are dealing with the damage are okay and are able to receive resources and help to deal with the clean up and fixing of structures. I'll have to ask my mom what the aftermath is like once she gets home.

Hahahah frus I love toddler hair in the morning! He sounds adorable. And yes, boys are so whiny too! DS2 is in a whiny phase at the moment and he's driving me bonkers with it. He's either got his volume cranked up to constant shouting, banging, screaming, crying, or cackling or he's whining. That's kind of just what we're dealing with atm. DS1 is now missing a front tooth and is sporting a cute lisp and a gigantic gap in his mouth. And M is obsessed with all things princess or ballerina-related.

What is everyone making for dinner these days? We are stuck in a rut and are cooking the same 4 things in rotation and I'm constantly trying to find new things to add that the kids won't turn their noses up at. Ideas to share?

Pork & beef meatballs, chicken casserole, beef casserole, pasta butterflies with spinach and cheese sauce, fish cakes, crunchy cod sticks, chicken drumsticks dipped in honey and soy sauce and sausages, broccoli and tomato pasta...that's what is on the menu in our house this coming week. We eat a lot of meat Blush I cook a lot of soups for lunch to balance it out!

kittykatsforever · 28/10/2015 10:55

My girls fav is fish pie, it's a ball ache to make but I make double batch to freeze so like 6/8 portions they absolutely love it and always have although tiger is in a very turn up her nose stage at the minute and regually just wants sausage and beans, dippy eggs, sandwiches and chrisps or chips SadI don't let her get her way that often though

bringonthetrumpets · 29/10/2015 02:16

Oooh these are all great ideas! Thank you!

I've been doing a couple of meals lately that surprisingly the kids have not been turning their noses up to. They loved the white chicken chili, chicken baked with wild and brown rice (it had carrots and celery and onions too, just chopped up finely and baked in chicken broth, just use bone-in chicken b/c the breasts got really dried out), we also did boneless parmesan pork chops with mash sweet potatoes and green beans on the side (M thought the pork was chicken nuggets and gobbled them, so win!). Tonight was frozen pizza and salad because....

DH's back has been acting up on him and the poor thing didn't leave the bed all day. It was also super cold and rainy all day and it snowed for 15 minutes (reminded me so much of the UK... ie "chilled to the bone") so it was not productive nor motivating to have the weather make you just want to crawl under the duvet with a hot water bottle and watch tv all day. From what I heard from M's daycare provider and DS2's chess club teacher- they were feeling a bit under the weather too. Must be the humpday slump over here or something! We are expecting first snow fall tonight. Thankfully nothing that is expected to stick but shit! this is coming on all too soon. Brace yourselves, ladies, I'll be moaning about all the snow soon.

I completely feel your pain, Frus We have to drive long distances to get to appointments in the city and it's such a hassle! We had a similar situation where I grew up and my parents had us stacking firewood along with stocking up the deep freeze with gigantic bulk orders of meat and frozen veg. I hope the winter isn't too harsh for you! We are expecting a mild winter here, based on my dad's observations, when you have mice in the autumn, it means the winter will be mild... and we already have a mouse problem. (The cats dragged one around the kitchen and played with it before we had a chance to figure out that it was real and not one of their toys )

Hope Baby Pear is doing well after his vax. First 24 hrs are the worst. Hang in there! Way better than actually getting the horrible illness....!

So DH's back is better but now I can feel a migraine lurking. M is a wild woman today and refuses to chill in bed with me. I should just bust out the pain killers now while we're ahead. Hmm

I think he's OK thanks...touch wood! He found it painful in his arm and cried Sad but it was OK. I took him to a private doctor because the NHS isn't offering men B vaccines to toddlers (in our area anyway). As soon as I got back in the car I gave him calpol so hopefully that helped. They've given me a chickenpox vaccine leaflet...rather tempted to go for that one too as that always sounds like a horrible experience for little ones...however, it's not serious like men B so probably not and I imagine DH would say no Blush Anyway, we have to go back in Jan for the second and last Men B vaccine.

peardrop2 · 29/10/2015 23:41

Why do I always tempt fate? I now have a little person in my bed. Have chucked DH as 3 can't fit in a double bed!! I've never slept with bpear before...fx I sleep!!

My fridge has now broken down. No joke Angry Seriously?!?!!! On top of that DH's gearbox has gone. Holy Molies we've got a lot of bad luck flying about in our house at the moment! I only brought our fridge 3 years ago and on top of that I just did a massive online shop which arrived last night Shock!!! The freezer part is still working so I'm considering freezing bpears yoghurts now before it becomes a health risk Halloween Confused

peardrop2 · 30/10/2015 15:03

Frus...you're right, we do need a bigger bed but at the rate our appliances are falling apart it just keeps slipping down the "would be nice to have list" SadOmg to the floods!!! How come its happened so fast? That's scary considering winter hasn't even begun. Have you had a lot of rain?

peardrop2 · 30/10/2015 16:16

Omg I'm having kittens. Just went to check freezer and now that's melting too Shock WTH do I do with 3 small chickens and a ton of freezer food?!?! And why did I think batch making chicken casserole, beef casserole and mince was a good idea today??? Wth do I do with it. Oh my I've got to laugh otherwise I'll cry!!!

peardrop2 · 30/10/2015 16:17
