Sorry, am feeding and micro pressed send! Just keep it in the back of your mind if he doesn't get better over time. Other signs are v similar to colic/reflux - cramping, fussiness, extended crying, vomiting, mucousy nappies or eczema, rashes. But sometimes they only have one or two of these.

Dulcet if he is sleeping in the day and awake at night, I do think getting them changed and giving them some signs that it is night time is useful. Are you using sleeping bags? That can be an easy way of doing it.

Also - the wee one can go an hour without being fed if you need to go outside and get some fresh air and a breather. MrD will manage him with some pacing and singing if necessary!

RPopz · 29/07/2015 15:02

Minipopz had "day" and "night" sleepsuits but the distinction was purely for my own benefit/ pleasure, not his! If we weren't going anywhere and he didn't mess himself he'd wear the same one for a couple of days. Babies take a while to figure out day and night - Google "upside down babies" - it's a thing. Constant boobing is more of a comfort/ smell thing rather than always hunger too. Fourth trimester - another thing for your one handed Googling Wink

Fleur - think infacol is worth a try, I know a couple of people who've found it helpful. Or colief is similar I think? Apparently its a bit of a faff with breastfeeding though because of the way you need to give it? HVs know shit, in my experience....

How was the dentist Tee?

RPopz · 29/07/2015 15:03

Ashamed to say I have mostly existed on biscuits since mini was born!! Blush

RPopz · 29/07/2015 15:06

A couple of times in the early days when I had the HE CAN'T BE HUNGRY AGAIN I'M SO TIRED I MIGHT DIE hot snotty mess 3am meltdowns.... DH cupfed mini some premade formula while I had a little rest. It's not for everyone I know but, it's an option that's there.

Fleurchamp · 29/07/2015 15:43

Ha! rpopz I know the feeling!

I think infacol is drops and so easier with BF than colief. I shall investigate.

We have a night and morning "routine". Around 7 we top and tail him (can't bathe at the moment as he has an infected finger), I rub in some moisturiser and feed him in half light. From then on he is kept in the dark. Clearly, he doesn't sleep from this time (he has done, twice) but we just keep settling him and putting him back into his crib. Eventually he might sleep from 10/11pm.

At 7am (ish) I open the blinds and day starts. Again, I top and tail him and change him for the day. I then feed him and play with him for a bit before trying to get him down for a nap.

During the day I try to make sure he doesn't sleep immediately after a feed (this is not always successful as he loves falling asleep on the boob) and so I chat to him, put him in a bouncy chair etc.
naps during the day are in daylight and I don't try to keep quiet around him.

At night I put him down after feeding and winding.

I hope these things will show the difference between night and day - so far, 2 weeks in, they seem to be working a bit. I am well aware this could quickly change.

It is so tempting to bring him downstairs in the evening when he is screaming but I am trying to persevere with keeping him in the dark 7pm -7am.

WilHarlot · 29/07/2015 16:50

That's a good idea Popz.

Oh my God Fleur, you sound like you have the whole thing sorted. You need no advice! Maybe if I had been half as good with Micro when she was little she would sleep better. Although the last two nights she has only woken up once, before an early 6am wake up. Doesn't go to sleep until 9 though. Envy

Fleurchamp · 29/07/2015 16:59

It is early days wil I need something to cling to each day or I doubt I would get out of my pjs...

ZylaB · 29/07/2015 17:12

I'm back to 2 or 3 wake ups each night :(

RPopz · 29/07/2015 17:17

That is good going Fleur!! I've never been very routine led but I'm a bit of a flake. He seems to have a natural routine which has gradually emerged though (thankfully!). I started trying to distinguish "night time" after the clusterfeeding had died down a bit. Upstairs, dark, quiet, white noise app on, no playing or chatting etc.

WilHarlot · 29/07/2015 17:44

Might be right behind you zyla, she has just thrown up everywhere. Think she may have caught the bug Sad .

minimooo · 29/07/2015 18:10

Sounds good fleur! On the colic front, I started off with infacol but didn't see much improvement. I switched to gripe water and I think it's much better. Her colic has by no means disappeared, but it is much better. I think they have be over 1 month to have it, and it's a bit of a pain in that it's a very 'thin' liquid that you need to give by syringe into the mouth. E just used to choke on it so now I put it in her formula instead. But she is a very chokey child! So maybe you wouldn't have this problem...

I started a sort of "routine" at about 8 weeks or so. Just bath and sleep suit upstairs at bedtime and making sure she's in daytime clothes during the day. Seemed to work as she started to sleep really well at night. She'll often go 8pm to 5am please don't hate me!! But not sure if that is just fluke, or if it really is connected to her associating those things with nighttime/daytime.

E has been really unsettled the last few days. She cries for cuddles but when I pick her up she keeps fighting and wiggling. She's also been sick a few times and is dribbling like mad. I've noticed her chomping on her fist a lot too. Do you think this is teething? She's 12 weeks.

Got her second lot of jabs tomorrow Sad

RPopz · 29/07/2015 19:41

mini - we all hate you! not really Grin

Yeah, sounds like teething. They seem to start doing that AGES before any teeth actually come through though.

I think I want all my hair lopped off. Not sure if I'm brave enough though.

Fleurchamp · 29/07/2015 19:54

I dream of having more than two consecutive hours' sleep I hate you mini Grin and it has only been two weeks.

I actually miss being pregnant ....

Thanks for the tip re gripe water too.

Willing to try anything - has anyone been to see a cranial osteopath?

WilHarlot · 29/07/2015 20:01

No but I seriously considered it with my first. I only didn't because it was miles away. I know people who said it really helped. Literally nothing worked for us first time round until she grew out of it. I didn't realise until she was older about the dairy thing. With this one, I cut out dairy at about six weeks and she stopped fussing around 7/8 weeks. But that is kind of the age they start to grow out of it anyway. It won't last forever although I know it feels like it will.

WilHarlot · 29/07/2015 20:02

Ooh Popz, before I was on fb, I always assumed you had short hair. No idea why. What kind of style?

DulcetMoans · 29/07/2015 20:18

It's a big step to get the locks chopped popz, but I found it worth it! Didn't get it cut for 7yrs and then just got rid and was much easier. If you hate it, at least it grows back.

Totes jealous if the routine there fleur, well done on getting that established. We are still trying to figure out when we eat! What does a cranial thingy do then? Does anyone have success with a Ewan? I didn't get one but considering it.

Do you bath everyday mini? Not you personally - mini mini!

J been napping this evening, on and off, if that means no sleep tonight I will just cry. I will probably cry anyway. Went to a breastfeeding drop in today and they confirmed he isn't feeding half the time he is on me. They said I can consider a dummy so feel better about trying it now. Looking into my pump today as well, see if I can express. Just don't want that to be tougher!

RPopz · 29/07/2015 20:21

Haha Fleur! Is it that bad?? Sad I could never sleep when I was pregnant and was always uncomfy. At least now if I get the opportunity to sleep, I know I'll be able to!

Not sure yet Wil - am pintresting as we speak Grin I had it cut to my collarbone a few weeks ago but it seems to be a really awkward and unflattering length on me....

RPopz · 29/07/2015 20:21

My friend tried CO with her little girl - she said it was weird but seemed to help!

minimooo · 29/07/2015 20:22

Grin If it's any consolation, E has pretty much screamed at me for three days straight now.

ooooh popz I was considering short hair too. How short will you go?

RPopz · 29/07/2015 20:23

I found expressing a bit of a PITA tbh Dulce but worth a bash if you can get a routine going. Dummies are lifesavers!! MiniP won't take one anymore.... Angry

RPopz · 29/07/2015 20:25

To my chin mini - maybe shorter?

Download a.White noise app on your phone Dulcet - free Ewan!

minimooo · 29/07/2015 20:30

Yeah dulcet she does bath every day I shower when I can! I know some people say it's bad for their skin, but hers seems fine. And she loves loves loves her baths so I'd feel bad if we didn't do it every day.

I gave E a dummy at about 2-3 weeks and have never looked back. I get a few judgey looks at baby group sometimes, but I'm happy with my decision. It's a godsend if she's having a meltdown. I'm not breastfeeding unfortunately though, so don't need to worry about nipple confusion etc.

Re: pump, you probably know this already, but you could hire one if you're not sure you want to commit to buying just yet. I hired a Medela Symphony and it was absolutely fab. I expressed really successfully with it for 6 weeks.

and yy to white noise app - it has actual magical baby sleeping powers.

PixieChops · 29/07/2015 20:45

Fluer I'm seeing a cranial osteopath tomorrow funnily enough, and my son has suspected milk intolerance too so can help with that.

Basically since last week at the doctors I have been 4 more times. In the end I gate crashed my mums appointment with our preferred family doctor who is in complete agreement that R is milk intolerant. He has been prescribed colief as when he was awake he just cried the whole time. It's not a normal whingey cry it's a sobbing, can't get his breath and goes purple cry. He was constantly drawing up his legs, is constipated, off pallor in his colouring, looks generally unwell, is full of a rash which is now all over his head, face and chest, very nasally and fussy. Barely sleeping at night and just grunting and being uncomfortable all the time too.
In all honesty the colief has done the trick where the crying endlessly is concerned, the rest of the symptoms are still there. I'm ringing up the docs tomorrow to get our family doctor to prescribe him the hypo allergenic milk ( which he will do now he's had colief and there's no "dramatic improvement" which is what the doc wanted)

I'm really looking forward to the appointment tomorrow with osteopath and will update once we've been.

Dulcet I'm so sorry you feel so shit, it's bloody hard work my love and these last 4 weeks have been the hardest in my life. Never think you're bringing us down by talking about being pissed off with stuff. We've all been there, God I've been there A LOT these last few weeks since R's colic really kicked off! Even my OH mentioned putting him up for adoption because we were at our wits end! Obviously we wouldn't do that in a million years.

P is off on her holidays with the grandparents tomorrow so at least I won't need to entertain a 14 month old for a could of days, she's off to Wales for some fussing and no doubt she'll come back with all sorts of crap (lovely toys) that the grandparents have bought her Smile

WilHarlot · 29/07/2015 20:52

I downloaded an app called sleep sounds onto the ipad which was good Dulcet, but now she's in her own room I want the ipad back so have ordered a Cloud B owl which is a bit like a Ewen but it has a sensor instead of needing you to press it. So if they wake up crying then the noise comes on. Hasn't arrived yet though so can't say whether it's any good or not.

I think the cranial thing is supposed to sort out any kind of misalignments caused by birth etc. I don't know really, that might be rubbish but it's suggested for unsettled babies.

My friend cut all her hair off when she had a baby as she thought it would be less hassle but then said it was so much more. I hate my hair too though and want something done. Couldn't carry off a short do though.

RPopz · 29/07/2015 21:07

Oh pixie - poor baby Sad GX you get some answers soon.

That is my concern Wil - least with long hair you can scrape it back in a bobble if it looks a pile of shite! Short hair needs "doing" every day doesn't it.
