We were stuck in the car last night too on a 4 hr car journey. It was horrible! Ds woke 4 times crying, We had to stop to see what was wrong. Nothing obvious. He just wanted out of the car seat. Then he screamed for the last 30 mins of the journey which was torture as nowhere to stop and I couldn't reach him to plug his dummy back in. I could just about reach his head to stroke it but that just made things worse. Finally got home and he settled well and slept from 11-6.20 phew!

Bigfam what am I doing wrong with this milk? Help! It took me 39 mins to get 2 ozs down him just now. He was writhing himself around and smacking the bottle. I've got 6-12 mth teat and made a bigger hole as he looked like he was frustrated. That made a bit of a difference but not much so I got fed up after almost an hour and chucked it in the sink and all these big clumps came out. I thought I'd mixed it well but obviously not. How do you make the feed up? Also it says hand held temp and leave for 7 mins so I boiled water up to 4 ozs let cool then when ready for feed topped up with boiled water and added formula. Absolute faff as I was out at the time. Pain in the a**e! How do you make it up? I'm fed up already and it's only been one bottle! There must be a way to do this with minimal stress?!?!?

LittlePink · 03/08/2015 12:05

39 mins?!?!? I meant 30 haha!

bigfam · 03/08/2015 12:30

I usually fill her bottle up to 2oz with water that's in the kettle (which has boiled but cooled) then boil fresh water and top it up to 6oz then put the formula in, then stick it in the jug to cool. Don't bother waiting 7 mins it's already thick enough, when you mix it you do have to shake it a lot!

bigfam · 03/08/2015 12:34

How much did you let the first 4oz cool? It might have been that even though you added 2oz of boiling water it wasn't hot enough to separate the milk, I've had those clumps before, they break apart and are full of dry formula aren't they. Try 2oz of cooled boiled water, top up with 4oz boiling, mix it then cool it, then feed straight away. Hope it helps

So cute Alyx!

Screaming babies in cars are not good. Dd completely flips out after about 10 mins unless she's tired enough to go to sleep. If dh is driving I have to sit in the back with her playing peekaboo or singing.

Since friday she's managed to get herself up onto all fours and rocking back and forth which is really exciting! She hasn't worked out how to move yet which she's finding really frustrating.

I'm still worried about her lack of interest in solids but I'm just hoping that if I try her with enough different foods she will eventually find something she loves!

LittlePink · 03/08/2015 13:56

I let 4 oz cool then topped up 3 oz to make up to 210ml/ 7 oz. I rolled it rather than shook as I read shaking makes it froth too much? Ok so I will make 2 oz cool boiled water and top up 5? To make to 7 oz. I've decided to just drop a bottle after the trouble I had getting it in him. He wasn't hugely interested and didn't care when I dumped 5 ozs after becoming exasperated! I figure he's getting a huge bf first thing, milk in breakfast, yoghurt for lunch, bottle mid pm, bottle bedtime that's more than enough. They say 20 ozs a day for 6 mth old so he's getting more than enough so he could afford to lose a bottle and go down to 3 feeds a day. I will just replace mid morning with snack and water. Dd dropped to 3 feeds at 7 mths I remember.

Wow sept up on all fours. Won't be long now before she's on the off! Where is the time going???

Pesto11 · 03/08/2015 14:01

As our dd seem to be exactly the same sept try some toast and/or scrambled eggs. My dd likes those 2. Doesn't really like anything else.
I'm also trapped in the back when dh is driving- which is not great for my travel sickness!!

I've just bought some c&g follow on milk and going to try a bottle one day this week.
Can't take 2 hours sleep anymore.
And she's still trying to climb out of the cot at 1am- need her to go back to sleeping in the cot.

At least the day times are more enjoyable- she's happily bouncing away in the walker now looking extremely gorgeous and babbling away! Mum m ma mum ma!

LittlePink · 04/08/2015 19:11

Think we're in the week 29 fussy phase. He's so whingy at the moment. Either that or he's teething. He grizzled and cried all the way through his bedtime feed tonight. Had to stop halfway through and give calpol and teething gel and he went nuts when I took the bottle away! It must have worked quickly as he calmed right down and went to bed no bother.

Anti reflux milk wise fingers crossed so far so good he's not been sick at all today. Which is a major improvement. I'm just hoping this is the right milk for him.

How's everyone else doing?

Alyx80 · 04/08/2015 21:12

Q is still up! Can't get him to go to bed at a decent time since we got back from Spain! His daytime naps are pretty rubbish too, he's only had catnaps today but it's so noisy with his brothers here, I'm not surprised really!
He's tried strawberries today, he loved them!

bigfam · 05/08/2015 03:32

Glad to hear the formula seems to be working little

September60b · 05/08/2015 09:17

Glad the formula seems to be working Little. That must be a relief.

Sorry to hear Q's sleep has gone to pot Alyx!

Dd is waking every 2 hours through the night so I feel like I'm in the zombie newborn stage again. Now that she can get herself up onto all fours, it's almost like it's an automatic reflex that kicks in as every time we put her down she does it and gets really frustrated because she wants to get to sleep! I seem to remember her doing this when she learnt to roll though so hopefully things will settle down soon.

What have your little ones got to eat today? Was thinking of trying dd with a breadstick dipped in something to try and make it interesting for her!

Pesto11 · 05/08/2015 22:00

I'm traumatised
Back to newborn stage here too
Velcro baby ALL afternoon
Screamed the place down sooooo loudly when put down
What's happened?!?

Nights are every 2 hours too, she won't take bottle or formula she won't take beaker of water
She doesn't want dh
Only cuddles with mummy will do!

She's not eating much
1 inch toast 'soldier' at breakfast - spat out banana
2cm of steamed carrot with about 1 tbspn of rice at lunch
Another soldier of toast at 5pm cz she was screaming so much I knew she would have the toast!

Clamps mouth shut and moves head and body like mad after a few morsels of food!

Interested to hear what others are eating too

I think I'm more exhausted than I was when she was a newborn!

Alyx80 · 05/08/2015 22:50

sorry you're having bad nights, these babies are hard work!

Today Q has had to eat a piece of crumpet and some baby porridge for breakfast, sliced red pepper, cucumber and a babybel for lunch and broccoli, cauliflower and carrot batons followed by banana for dinner. I'd say the dog ate at least 80% Hmm. She's soon learnt to stand under the high chair to catch anything thrown off lol. He does eat quite well if I spoon feed him but seems to enjoy the finger foods a lot even though he's not eating much.

bigfam · 05/08/2015 23:00

I've tried giving finger foods but when she does pick up whatever I give her I sit over her like a hawk and then she tends to choke so I'm blending everything I can, she can handle little lumps but that's it. Night time's are hit and miss, sometimes she wakes once at around 4 and other times around 6. But certainly makes up for it during the day, naps are hard and if I try to leave her for 20 seconds (just to wee) she Screams the house down

jobrum · 05/08/2015 23:00

Pesto, dd is the oposite in terms of eating. I had her weighed yesterday (no problems) and discussed whether she was eating too much too quickly but hv said is fine, especially as she likes to feed herself with finger foods and a spoon and I dont force anymore when she's had enough. I give breakfast and dinner and she would happily eat a finger or two of toast and a whole small banana for example and then breastfeed after. She's been on solids for 2 and a half weeks there abouts. Loves slices of melon!
As for the clingy newborn stage, same as you. One tooth has just broken through, the other is clearly going to do the same any moment now and she's getting over a cold with awful blocked sinuses. She's needier, louder, fights to be sat on her own and then gets upset, happy to be left alone and then the next time I do it cant bare to be away from me. Is waking up roughly an hour after going to bed, sometimes around 11, again at 1ish, again at 4 and 5.30-6 and then sleeps to around 7 some days, often just lies awake and babbles from 6 onwards but then is really tired and has an early nap. Its easier to quickly breastfeed her to settle her back to sleep but I know she's not really hungry.
Everytime I start to think everything is going well she gets fussy again!

bigfam · 06/08/2015 20:28

Took the kids to the park today, the baby had a little go on the swing. Tried here with finger food today, cucumber and boiled egg, once she started touching it she pulled the funniest (disgusted) faces I've ever seen, don't think she liked the texture

LittlePink · 06/08/2015 20:35

Really feeling your pain with the nights. There's nothing like sleep deprivation. It hurts. A lot.

Today he's had ready brek with Apple puree for breakfast. Lunch was boring as we were out and I grabbed him and dd a kids lunch box so he just had a cheese sandwich which I cut into soldiers for him, a yoghurt and a slice of apple to suck. Dinner was fish fingers, potato waffle and brocolli.

He's been in good spirits today but the last few days have been hard with the whinging. He does this mmm mmm mmm mmm whinge with his mouth closed which really grates on you after a few minutes. Bit of calpol has been doing the trick.

Pesto11 · 07/08/2015 06:13

Gorgeous photo

I've been up every hour SadAngry
Will eat cake for breakfast later Cake

And the calpol is coming out tmrw
Must be teething
Think it's top teeth as I can see teeth shapes pushing forward.
Tried to not put her on boob- offered water, offered a dummy that id bought yesterday - all met with screams squirming and crying- just grrreat(!)
Trying not to feel sorry for myself and remember happy smily day times when I'm pacing the room!
This is just like baby's first 2 weeks!

Since trying to give her formula milk (and making her cry for ages) she now refuses to open her mouth for water beaker! Honestly she takes the word stubborn to a whole new level!

September60b · 07/08/2015 09:03

Feel your pain pesto, I was up every hour too. Dd had calpol before bed which didn't seem to do much, but at 4.30am dh rubbed some anbesol on her gums as I was losing the will to live and she went through till 6.30am. She goes to sleep pretty quickly one I pick her up and do a few laps of the hall but it's the number of times she wakes that is killing me.

On another note I have found something she liked to eat. Custard!! Not the healthiest but I did try and slip a bit of apple purée in. Think she will be getting some avocado and hummus for lunch today. She wasn't interested in breakfast!!

jobrum · 07/08/2015 11:12

Little, yes the mmmm mmmm whinge happens to us too! Apparently (and I know its not ahort term help) babies babble the same the world over but the sounds develop from what they hear around them and are encouraged to do. So if you ignore thise sounds and repeat ask gasp in delight at the ones you like, the irritating whinging shouldnt continue. In theory! My mum loves repeating that noise saying "you made that sound when you were small and all when you were a child". So stop making that sound at my baby then, Mum!

jobrum · 07/08/2015 11:30

At least here we can all feel sorry for ourselves with regards to sleep deprivation!

Great photo on the swing!

bigfam · 07/08/2015 15:47

Oh my god dd2 is dancing around in three dresses Hmm

Alyx80 · 08/08/2015 11:19

7 months today! He seems to be enjoying his food more now, he had spaghetti yesterday and loved it! He's still sleeping through and generally is a happy little thing, loves his big brothers and Jumperoo. He can sit for a few minutes but no signs of other movement yet (suits me though lol). Think he weighs about 10kg now and is going into 12-18m clothes lol.
No signs of any teeth yet.

Jan 2015- what will they be doing next? Sitting, eating, crawling....
LittlePink · 08/08/2015 18:44

12-18 yikes! Ds has just gone into 9-12. Haven't had him weighed recently but he's prob getting on for 20 lbs.

How many milk feeds are you all giving now?

Alyx80 · 08/08/2015 23:23

Q is still fed on demand so not sure on the number of feeds, I'd say 6-10 a day probably and I don't think he's reduced any yet. We sneaked off together for a nap this afternoon, it was lovely to have some sleepy snuggles Smile
