New thread everyone!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ta Cori - when I spoke to NCT woman she did not seem to think it was a problem his frequent feeding. But tbh I would like some space between them! btw, he is great at night. Usually goes around 11 hrs but occasionally wakes for feed during the night which is why I have not worked too hard on lengthening the gaps. Ta for input...

cruisemum1 · 16/12/2006 20:34

just catching up in the gap between xfactor and xfactor results - dd is addicted.../ Cori - Dominic is 14 weeks. So about the age when your doc things they should go longer between feeds.

Coriander73 · 16/12/2006 20:49

cruisemum, I'm addicted too this series!! I really hope Leona wins (although Ben was my fav!!) but have a sneaky feeling Ray will get the popular underdog vote!

If Dominic goes through at night then hey, may be worth just going with it because he's obviously contented enough to let you sleep!! Maybe you should not feed him in the night if / when he wakes? Again my doctor (whether right or wrong) said that at 3.5 months they do not need feeding between 10.30 / 11pm until at least 6.30...Jack has done this off his own accord the past two nights for which I for one am hugely grateful!!

Hi All,
Haven't posted on here before, but my DS was born 8/9/06 weighing in at 7lbs 1oz and is now 10lbs 13oz at 14 weeks (boo and a hiss to reflux which has caused him to have v. slow weight gain and therefore a readmission to hospital), despite all of which he is a lovely cheeky chappy.
It's quite comforting to see some people going through the same as things I have "gone through" - sounds horrible phase as do love my DS, but it has been a hard adjustment.
Cruise - just wanted to say that I went though traumatic couple of weeks trying to get DS settled in cot with Baby Whisperer methods and really just went for something I read in her books where I gradually got him used to it. Sh pat never worked for me, but he is a great sucker, so I used a dummy (I know it's a loaded option!) or he sucked on my finger, while lying in cot and he gradually got used to falling asleep in cot. I then started to leave him to fall asleep last bit on own and gradually got to stage where I could put him down in his cot after winding after last feed and he will then settle himself. But, I do also have a muslin tucked in my bra at last feed, which I lay under his head to sleep on. He still only goes for 7 hours from 7pm before waking for a feed and it's hit and miss after that, but hey, that is 7 hours in a row! It took a few days to get this established and a couple of weeks before this really works most nights (unless he has a screaming reflux fit). Now just to work on the sleeping through - we've asked him for a full night's sleep for Christmas
Also, I found that moving his bath forward to 5.45pm really helped, so I was obviously keeping him up too late before.
Liquid - have you really found a dramatic difference with bottle feeding for reflux? I breastfed exclusively to 12 weeks and now top up with bottle (prescribed nutramigen) twice a day and am really suffering with huge guilt complex about not bfing exclusively (both DS and I enjoy it, so I'm lucky in that respect), but quite often my boobs just don't feel full, so I worry he's not getting enough. Anyone have experience of combining both? I worry that if I stop bfing, I won't be able to comfort him by bfing - aaagh, really am a worry wort!
Anyway, sorry to bumble on on first post, but is nice to chat to you all!
Jingle

JingleBelle · 16/12/2006 21:50

Should have said - I have to go to bed now to get a couple of hours in before he wakes, but will check in again tomorrow!

Marls001 · 17/12/2006 00:42

Welcome to Pistachio & Jingle!

Liquid - did find gro-bag to order on babywhiz.com ... awaiting one! Excited to see how it goes, after all I've heard!!

Redz - 10 days IS a long time!!! So please don't feel like you're whining!

Claire - they are extreme ... had never heard of anything like 12-year-olds (or even 3-year-olds) in parents' bed before moving here. These people are from all over, so it's not Arkansas. ... perhaps Houstonians are good disciplinarians? Not so much making that connection ... just that "babies/children are different" seems to be the excuse for so many parental inconveniences. I can't fathom why a six-month old wouldn't be able to sleep at least from midnight until 6am. Seems like there's so much of that here.

Very warm here now; broke record at 21C. Second warmest Dec. 16th was in 1956.

Less than 8 months from now, we'll be living somewhere else. Won't be sure until weeks before the move. DH's next position could be in Houston, Dallas, Austin, or Kansas City. Disconcerting to think about it, so I try not to ...

cruisemum1 · 17/12/2006 08:13

grrrrr - after extolling the virtues of my wonderous ds sleeping at night he woke at 8:15pm, 9:00pm, 10:15pm, 11:15pm, 5:am and then 7:45am!! . Fed every time. we are doing some visiting today and i feel shattered! I hate that!
more later....

compo · 17/12/2006 09:24

Morning everyone. Haven't time to read all the posts but just wanted to say it's a year today that we conceived dd

cruisemum1 · 17/12/2006 10:14

....and if you are anything like me it was the last time you wanted sex!

JingleBelle · 17/12/2006 11:12

Lol Cruise - think my DH would laugh in resigned humour at that one!
Compo thanks for making me realise now is about a year ago for us too - although if I mention that to DH he might be glad of the above, after the night we've had - why did I also have to proudly state that DS had slept through from 7pm for 6 hours every night for last few weeks - last night he woke at 10.10 (5 mins after I went to bed) for another feed and has just gone down for a nap after a very fretful 5 hours since waking for good this morning! - Aaagh, curse me. Although should at least be glad that he's napping today. Mind you also seem to have cursed the cricket today, as I went back to bed for a nap earlier and when I got up they were 260 for 3 and within 20 mins were 265 for 5 - oops!
Ho hum, DH is off to work in less than one hour, so must get on with stuff while he's still around and DS naps.

Coriander73 · 17/12/2006 11:54

compo, it's incredible to think that this time last year we were all conceiving!! I don't know which date I conceived as we did it 6 times before & after ov. just to make sure... Like you say crusiemum, until last week that was indeed the last time we'd had sex!!

Myrtle, Jack not great last night!! Fed him at 11pm (DH went to bed so it was left to me!) but he only took 3oz & I thought there is no way he is going to 6.30! How right was I? He woke at 2 for an hour & 10 mins as he kept on choaking etc - he has a really bad cough & what I need is for him to sick up all the phlegm but to no avail - then he woke at 4 & DD woke me at 5 with her teeth again....DH slept through the lot...grrr...so today am very tired & not entirely in the best mood!

Woodelf · 17/12/2006 17:36

Contrats compo! I think it was a year today that Alexander was concieved - quite an odd thought really when the little one is giving me knowing glances and smiles!

Alex is finding his thumb now but still misses the mouth a lot especially when tired. Usually takes seven feeds in a 24 hour period of 6 or 7oz depending on appetite. Still screams if gets windy, passes a poo or is hungry - other than that he is a lovely smiley chap who loves his mobile and bathtime!
Has his second jabs tomorrow and I hope he will be ok as he was the last time. First AF since birth so feeling so much better as the hormones come back into balance - had been feeling teary up to then!

Hugs to all
Woodelf

compo · 17/12/2006 19:23

Thanks for the congratualtions everyone It is a lovely feeling that dd has been 'alive' for a whole year today iyswim.
Cori - it does seem ages since we were on the conception thread together!!
Welcome to JingleBelle - looking forward to chatting with you lots
We finally got in the festive mood today and put the Chrsitmas tree and decorations up. And we also bought ds a potty - he sat on it before his bath so he obviously knows it's for sitting on from nursery!!

Myrtle1 · 17/12/2006 20:25

Cori - sorry Jack didn't nap so well last night, I hope it goes better tonight and you get a good sleep
Ned did the same again ish - 7:30pm, 12am, 5am then 8:15am. I always get a bit anxious in the evenings as you never know what the night is going to be like do you..? I'm hoping for an ok sleep as I've got friends coming round to dinner tomorrow night so need to shop, cook and clean tomorrow (i've probably just tempted fate now)
Signing off now til tomorrow

cruisemum1 · 17/12/2006 20:40

funny how we are all having bad nights wiht lo's now. My ds slept really badly last night (read earlier post) and has only napped for a total of 1hr 40mins alday. We were visiting friends for dinner and he fell asleep onthe way home in the car but has been awake ever since. I am exhausted with his bedtime antics and so frustrated. Why won't he sleep. Teh conditions are right, he isnever disturbed when he does nap and now he is so overtired that he could sleep on a washing line! But...... not in his cot - very frustrated and worried that this will never end......

Coriander73 · 17/12/2006 21:48

Yes compo, can't believe it really...it doesn't seem possible does it?! Now look at us two more lo's in tow!!! Good sign with the potty!!

Well, Jack is already being difficult - if that's the right word?!! He went down at 7pm as per normal & then he started cryng at 9 so I popped up trying to console him - alas no luck other than to put boob into his mouth! He was hungry after only two hours..fed for another 15 mins....do they have a growth spurt at 13 weeks??? Anyhow, I'm off to bed now & leaving DH with the 11pm bottle....please please sleep Jack...& you DD...

clairemow · 17/12/2006 22:21

just a quick one as my parents are here and I should go and socialise! Jingle and Cruise, re. your bf questions - Cruise, topping up with formula will affect your supply, in that DS will be drinking ounces that you aren't making so your supply will be less than he is actually drinking/needing if you see what I mean. So really it depends whether you want that to happen (e.g. I have now dropped mid afternoon feed and F has a formula bottle then. My supply now wouldn't be enough to feed him at that time anymore).

Jingle, my boobs aren't really engorged at all this time with DS2 - your breasts are never empty apparently, they are amazingly clever and adjust to supply just what your baby demands, and LO will always be able to get milk out. So don't worry!!

Goodness, I sound like a bf militant... I'm not, honest!!

cruisemum1 · 18/12/2006 10:25

jingle - ta for advice on putting ds down in cot to sleep. Nothing seems to work and last night after he had hardly napped all day (his choice not mine!) he didn't finally settle until he hd been rocked to sleep by dh after havig two attempts at sucking to sleep . He was so shattered. Ijust don't know what to do. Tbh, as I have dd who is still up at his bedtime I am finding it really difficult (havig not yet perfected the art of being in two places at once ) He eventully slept from 9:30pm tp 6:15am which is fine but the bedtime battle is exhasuting and time consuming.
again today he won't nap and he was crying so hard while i was trying to have a bath that dd got him up! stress city - not having much fun

liquidclocks · 18/12/2006 17:46

Marls - so pleased you found a gro-bag, hope they work as well for you as they have for us!

Cruise - so sorry to hear it's all ongoing. It doesn't last forever though. Is your HV at all supportive, I realise I'm lucky to have a good one but when they are good they can be a real support through sleep and feeding troubles.

Jingle - hi! Sorry to hear yours has reflux too - awful thing for such a LO to have. Have you seen this link? Lots of useful advice and info there - my DS1 had it too so we've done it all before. If you're enjoying BF though do keep doing it, reflux babies who are BF tend to be happier as the milk is much more digestable. The formula feeds you top up with could be converted to enfamil AR - see f you can get your HV/GP to prescribe it though as it more than twice the price of normal formula.

Has anyone's LO found a favourite toy yet? DS1 had a bunny at this stage and this afternoon DS2 was about to descend into his usual 4pm gripey mode and I gave him a really fluffy doggy and he calmed right down!

compo · 18/12/2006 19:19

Dd doesn't have a favourite toy yet but ds keeps giving her his Peppa Pig figures which she can't grasp yet so he just piles them on to of her in her bouncy chair!
Ds has been pulling his nappy and trousers down and sitting on the potty in the bathroom when I go to the loo today. He hasn't actually done anything in it yet but is still very pleased with himself! We're not going to use pants until next week when dh is home.

cruisemum1 · 18/12/2006 20:34

ds has a catterpillar from ToysRUs. it is really long and each segment is a different colour. It is really bendy so can attach to handles of car seat/buggy handles/bouncy chairs etc. It was only about 8 quid but he defo likes it. The face is big, yellow and smiley with wobbly tentacles. I would defo recommend one!

Coriander73 · 18/12/2006 20:40

All good signs compo!! Liquid, no fav toys yet...correction..Mummy's boob seems to high on the list.. What have you all done for their pressies? We got a squidgy car & a rattle for him for ELC....plus Baby Mozart DVD which DD had but broke!! She loved the Baby Enstein stuff so we're hoping Jack gets as much enjoyment out of them too. Still no joy on the babygym

Jack was supposed to have had his 2nd set of jabs today but the doctor said not to bother because it'll only make his chesty cough yuckiness worse (the one both DH & I have along with DD now too...arrgghh). That means what with xmas etc he wont be having the 12 week jabs until he is 15-16 weeks when he should be having the 3rd set! Doctor said these things aren't set in stone but I can't help wondering what will happen having them so close together?

redz · 19/12/2006 07:24

Morning all

Cant believe im up so early!! Ive already done the dishes done two loads of washing and fed dd (well I gave her a dream feed) and changed her just thought as im up might aswell cos when I do crawl back into bed she'll probably sleep till 11am now

Havent started her in her cot yet, the handy man didnt come to put the blinds up on saturday in her room he didnt even call to say he wasnt coming and its the third time he's put it off! So Im going to look for someone else.
But to be honest as dp away I'll probably keep her in with me untill he returns for the company

Cruise - sorry the sleeping not's getting better, all I can say is give it time Im sure it will get better.
Dd has been staying awake longer recently, even in the car when before all I had to do was turn the key in the ignition and that was it she'd be off! So hopefully as ds gets older his body will adjust and no matter how he fights it he will have to sleep (fingers crossed)x

Liquid - dd has a fave toy its her xmas pressie (well one of them) I couldnt resist showing her it before I wrapped it. Its the walking winnie the pooh it runs and walks and talks first time I showed her she couldnt decide whether to laugh or cry after about 15mins she was cooing with delight dont know which one of us loves it more!
Other than that I'd say it was the little teddies that hang from her bouncy chair they have little bells inside them she coos and laughs with them for ages and they can come off the chair we take them nearly everywhere with us.

Cori - sorry ds not well hope he gets better soon. Re the jabs, maybe they will just move them all back a couple of weeks so probably have the 12 week ones when he's 15/16wks and then his 16wk jab maybe have that when he's about 18wks?
I found with the 2nd lot dd was alot better more happy, the first set made her sleepy and she wasnt herself but the 2nd lot she was the same happy go lucky baby by the time we got home from the docs. Hopefully ds will be fine, just having them a little later.

Well Im going to make dd bottles and climb back into bed for a couple more hours, it looks so cold and frosty outside love being indoors when its like that outside.

Myrtle1 · 19/12/2006 11:31

Cori - DS's jabs have gone all out of sync as well. He had the first lot at 9 weeks cos we were away when he was 8 weeks and then the 2nd lot were meant to be this thursday but we are away again so he won't get them til he's 14 weeks. The third lot will be when he's 18 weeks. The nurse said it was ok as long as he had 4 weeks between each set of jabs.
