Our babies are rocking and rolling, crawling and climbing into the second half of their first year.

Let the fun continue...

DD is a 3.5, but the lady at Clarks said that should give her a couple of months of wear. Considering the shoes were only a tenner that doesn't seem too bad Smile

jaykay34 · 18/06/2015 12:55

iate i find converse really small, J doesn't fit his anymore and they are meant to be size 2.

I'm starting to think J is a real titch compared to the others on this thread !! Smile

apples I got J a couple of Clarks £10 bargains too - one in his current size and the same pair in the next size up. Also bought myself a new handbag for £15 - it's big enough to double up as a small change bag too.

IAteSomeofthePies · 18/06/2015 13:35

I agree, he's still got a bit of space in the toes of the Cons, but because of their shape? not sure... they're such a faff to get on and off that we need the bigger size.

Topsyloulou · 18/06/2015 18:13

I bought DS his first pair of shoes from Clarkes today. He measured a 3 but ended up with 2.5, of course there were none in the sale in his size so ended up having to pay £26 ????. Was tempted to buy the next size up in the sale but I'll see how he gets on with these first. I love that they a take a photo & that you get 20% off full price stock every time you buy baby shoes.

Eatscones · 18/06/2015 23:35

Thanks Fate for not making me feel crazy for being broody already ... I wasn't at all broody today.

I haven't bought shoes for my DS yet but was given tons of second hand stuff from friends so he is usually sporting a pair of shoes when out but so far just the soft Velcro type - size 1.

Hope you are doing better Holls transitions are hard.

I'm planning to start working from home p/t again as MA will be up right away ... I'm a little scared of how I'll manage to carve time out of a busy day with baby & toddler to focus on work.

Nazly · 18/06/2015 23:45

I am really suffering Again with ds refusing to sleep.... Tonight hd just dropped now after a 3-4 hours battle... Help :(

FATEdestiny · 19/06/2015 11:14

I can't begin to imagine how faffy Converse must be to get on a baby. I have a tough time getting my 5 year old in his Converse and my 9 and 10 year olds often get frustrated getting theirs on themselves.

Nazly - Sorry sleep is rubbish Sad I know how crushing sleep deprivation is, especially once at work.

I am sure you have tried just about everything so forgive me if I repeat stuff you probably already are doing or have tried. Have you tried lying down with your DS as he goes to sleep? Is there a bed in his room or maybe a mattress on his floor for you?

DD is still in a cot in our bedroom. I don't lie physically with her, she's in her cot. But as part of separation anxiety (I think) she likes me or DH to stay in he room as she goes to sleep. That just means lying on my bed (playing with my phone) while she is in the cot, or I could even be doing stuff like putting washing away or stripping the bed as she goes to sleep. She just needs to know one of us is in the room and then she's fine.

nazly; we were finding it was taking ages to get ds to sleep as well. we were putting him to bed too early. he seems to be able to stay awake a long time. generally he naps 2.5 hrs after getting up, 2nd nap 3.5 hrs after 1st and bedtime 4.5 hrs after last nap.

holls2000 · 19/06/2015 19:17

today b was at nursery 8-3.15. bearing in mind he usually has 2 hrs nap at about 8.30 and then another 1.5hrs at about 2, he has had the grand total of an hour and a quarter all day. This could be interesting. Shock

Oh holls good luck with bed time!! Isn't it mad that the more tired they are the harder it is to get them to sleep.

Hope you're ok nazly and not tearing your hair out.

Topsyloulou · 19/06/2015 20:10

We had similar today Holls. 45 min nap this afternoon at the childminder rather than the normal 90min. He was so tired this afternoon but was determined not to sleep. DP did bed time as I was babysitting & DS screamed the house down for 20 minutes which is so not like him. Hope bedtime went better for you.

Nazly I hope you have a better night tonight.

holls2000 · 20/06/2015 14:11

He seemed wide awake but at 6.30 flagged and was asleep by 7. woke up crying (teeth) at 8 and then woke up at 4 and 5 but gentle soothing took us through to 7.30 so maybe I have been over napping him. who knows.

cookielove · 20/06/2015 16:12

I find that if E has very little naps he is ridiculously ratty hard to feed and is less settled when asleep :( the more he naps the better :)

His feet are 3 1/2 G the shoes I want are out of stock :(

Teething again so unsettled but he is ridiculously in love with his dad which is so cute :)

ApplesTheHare · 20/06/2015 17:13

Aw we've got the first word of 'og' for dog here Smile

Thanks Ladies, last night was a lot better and tonight was just about OK with 1.5 hrs instead of 3 or 4 !! I am still not sure if it is long naps or what
I know we have a round of going through nap times once a while, can we have another one now? - Given they are like completely another person ever month at this age- ?
Thanks Ella for starting - how long is the night time sleep and how long is each nap and how often please ladies? Does anybody wake their lo up if they feel oh that's too long of a nap ??

(fate, I not only sleep next to him, but co sleep and hug and rock and do anything, anything I can to get him to sleep some nights, I am past caring what is a good habit and what is not by that stage... )

We went to Clarks today, just because it is sales and you've all been... Not successful at all :( ds shoe size is 4.5 and a H; surprise surprise, it wasn't in sale. But when the nice man brought the only two ones they had in stock for that combination of size at full price, neither of them fitted !!! Blush So I went to their website to see if there is anything with another shape or form or larger that could be a fit but found nothing !!!! I didn't expect buying a shoe for ds to be a challenge ! He has fatty feet ! Just found out from hubby that he can not wear some style shoes either as his feet are wide and fat !!

Anybody has a walker as yet? Those they stand by and push it, not those they can sit inside which are not good for them... I can't find one that doesn't feel or look flimsy

Nazly · 21/06/2015 00:26

Am I allowed another post?
I missed the discussion on food as I was so busy then...

So here is how it goes :
Breakfast is a bit of cereal, plus toast with cheese and avocado.
Lunch and dinner are either from frozen batch cooking or from what we are having depending what we eat ourselves. Sometimes if I get 5 minutes I make omelette for him with things like spinach or courgette, or other veggies and he eats it with toast.

I do the batch cooking over the weekend. i spend around an hour or so for that, and I randomly make things depending on what we have around; (I am a bit like that, just mixing what is around instead of following a recipe) but my method is simple, mix meat plus starchy food plus veggie! Try for them to be almost equal portions, meat could be a bit less... Meat is either chicken legs or salmon or lamb leg steak; starchy is either potato or rice or pasta; veggie is what we have in fridge but it is normally broccoli, pepper, carrot, celery, courgette, peas, etc. I just cook them and then freeze them for the week....

Today we were out and ordered ds a penne pasta with cream and ham -in the cafe-restaurant we were- from the kinds menu; he ate almost all of it !! It was a big portion! He enjoyed it so much couldn't stop himself ! My mil said be careful he may get fat!!! Angry Agghh! I've learnt to ignore comments like that as if it was never said ; I'll worry about that when he is not a baby anymore, currently he is burning sth line unlimited amount of calories as he never stops cursing and crawling and moving around

Acorncat · 21/06/2015 07:15

We have 2 naps, of about 1.5-2 hours each, though can be just 30 mins. About 9am and 2pm but really depends when he wakes. Bedtime is between 7 and 8pm and he's up between 6 and 7am. He usually sleeps about 10.5-11 hours. His sleep is still terrible though, very restless and fed back to sleep usually 3 or more times.

I worry about portion size, especially things like pasta which he'll just be eat and eat. I'm sure I read it should be about the size of their first but he eats way more than that.

lilone1234 · 21/06/2015 07:49

Naps - 9:30am for about 1 hr, 1:30pm for 1-1.5 hrs, 5:30pm for 1 hr and bedtime at about 8pm. She wakes up about 7am, and sometimes a couple of times in the night but mostly self settles well. Our routine works well for us during the week but is usually disrupted at the weekend, leading to difficult Monday's! Sometimes she refuses a nap, it's becoming more frequently recently and I wonder if she may drop one soon, she still needs them all really! Last week she missed her morning nap and fell asleep while eating her toast at lunch!

Ah I'm reluctant to go to Clarkes yet as DD does not even stand yet but I can't get any shoes to stay on her feet, and socks even more so, she throws them all out the pram when I'm not looking! I often take her out with bare feet now because of that (or tights, life saver, but getting too warm!) but feel I get judged!

We are going for a picnic with DP's family for Father's Day, for his dad really. I would rather not but it's what DP wanted to do... Any plans for anyone else?

jaykay34 · 21/06/2015 08:43

Naps...what are they ? Grin

J only really has recharging naps, that last about 10minutes to half hour - usually one somewhere between 10am and 11am, and one at about 4pm. He is a very happy little man and just doesn't seem to need much sleep during the day.

Nazly · 21/06/2015 09:06

Oh interesting ...
Acorn , all, do you think I should worry about overeating and portion size now? I thought they self regulate for now and stop feeding when they had enough, no?
Ds has next to none formula intake too, so less calories there

When would you start cow milk I read 10 months somewhere but most people say 1yr

ApplesTheHare · 21/06/2015 09:23

Ugh, our naps were at 10 and 2 like clockwork but now DD's fully on the move she also seems to be dropping down to 1 nap anywhere between 11 and 2. She's cranky though so I think she could really do with 2!

Ella that's so funny that your DD says shoes, very sweet!

FATEdestiny · 21/06/2015 12:23

When would you start cow milk*

NHS recommend full fat cows milk from 12 months, but can be used in cooking from 6 months. Semi-skimmed milk I think is from 2 years old.

Anybody has a walker as yet?

I have various walkers stored from previous children. The Early Learning Centre Wobble Toddle is probably the most sturdy and useful of all the push-alongs/ride-ons I've had.

Any plans for anyone else?

We're having a BBQ later. His gifts from the children included: A clay pig DD10 made at Guides. A decorated tile DS5 made at school. A bottle of made from scratch elderflower juice that DS9 made on cub overnighter last night. All very lovely.

how long is the night time sleep and how long is each nap and how often please ladies? Does anybody wake their lo up if they feel oh that's too long of a nap ??

Ours seem to be like everyone elses - Around 9.30ish and 1.00pm ish. About 1-2 hours each. Sometimes a 5.30pm powernap. Bedtime 7-8pm up 6-7am. I wouldn't wake a sleeping baby unless I had to.

lilone1234 · 21/06/2015 12:35

Those sound like lovely gifts for your DH Fate!

I agree, would not wake sleeping baby unless necessary!
