Our babies are rocking and rolling, crawling and climbing into the second half of their first year.

Let the fun continue...

I have gone back to work originally 4 days a week, but dropped down to three! Longer hours but more full days with E :)

Nazly · 07/08/2015 21:09

Kitkat I hope you don't mind me mentioning this ... I would never use the word "help" as he would not be helping you as you are not responsible for all those things, both of you are, so he would just start doing what he was responsible for in the first place...

You would think this is a small thing, but it makes such a difference... Once instead of using help terminology you start using did you do your job....

To be honest this was one or the first thing We discussed as a couple, I told dh we should do 50 50 and he agreed. We are not 50 50 right now in child care but we are half half on house work... When I become full time and dh finishes with one of his jobs then I hope we can fix thAt too...

TeamEponine · 07/08/2015 21:33

I agree with Nazly! It is not helping you unless it is doing something that won't benefit himself! We share about 35:65, with me doing more. But I only work part time and have barely any commute, whereas DH works ft and spends three hours a day commuting, so I think that's fair. We also have a cleaner for two hours a week, which is essential for marital harmony and my sanity!!!

ApplesTheHare · 08/08/2015 10:16

Oh KitKat that sounds like a nightmare. Can you ask him to split 50/50 when you go back? Housework and chores are a big worry of mine about going back full-time, and DH and I split stuff 50/50 and also have a cleaner 2 hours per week. Have to say we don't have a ton of money but the money we spend on the cleaner is some of the most worthwhile!

I work for a charity, so budgets are tight and I can't see there being much flexibility. I've decided to ask my boss to go back 4 days instead of 5 because I've been a bit of a wreck this week with just having done a keep in touch day and organising a big party for my friend. It's all felt really overwhelming and I did a settling in session with DD at the childminder too. I didn't think I felt that strongly about childcare but I feel so devastated at the thought of DD going now Sad

Nazly · 08/08/2015 22:41

First weekend birthday done :) I think ds quite enjoyed the day- this is what we've done:
Went out for lunch with immediate family, i.e us and grannies; after lunch went walking in a park and given it was a hot day ds played with water in the river or do you call it water channel? Those tiny rivers in parks? Then walked to an animal farm and ds met some of his favourite animals and got exited- on the way back he had a long nap so we stopped at a cafe and had tea ; then came back home and had a bigger cake and candle and coffee and tea and music, etc. He enjoyed the whole thing really; I am so glad I didn't even consider anything big; he felt very safe and loved as he was just with closest people around him and did what he enjoyed...

His actual birthday is on Wednesday and I feel really emotional already...

So ... I have been considering a cleaner for a while now; we could really do with it now we are both working; but I worked out it is going to cost us more than a thousand pound a year and gave up on the idea... But everyday That passes I think I should really reconsider... Can I have some help and opinions please? How do you go about it? i dont like agencies,,,

KitKat1985 · 09/08/2015 09:29

Thank you for your points ladies. You are right Nazly, I shouldn't ask DH to 'help' me as it implies it's my job. We have also had the cleaner discussion and have discussed paying towards a cleaner 50/50 as a compromise. Like you Nazly I estimate it would be £80-100 a month and that's basically our annual holiday money, so I feel quite torn. Confused

Nazly I'm pleased to hear your DS enjoyed his day. Can't believe we're at first birthdays already! Mad! x

KitKat1985 · 09/08/2015 09:35

Apples sorry I meant to say well done on making a decision on going back to work. I think 4 days is a good compromise as you will still be able to do the majority of what you did before. Also I can understand why you feel upset re: starting childminder but you will both adjust to it. I'm hoping in a couple of years when our finances are a bit better (we are in operation 'pay off DH's personal loan and credit card debt' which is going to take a couple of years) then hopefully I can go part-time too.

Zanashar · 09/08/2015 12:01

Hi everyone!
been a good while since I posted on here and I've tried to keep an eye on the thread but seem to have missed loads.
How is everyone?
Happy Birthday to all the LOs turning 1 already :)
DD is still almost 2 weeks away from 11 months so we've some time to go until the big day.

In the meantime she has finally got a few teeth (first one came through @ just before 10 months, complete with two weeks of diarrhoea and poorliness), two in the bottom centre and two fangs at the top (middle ones nowhere to be seen), so I've a baby vampire........
Crawling and cruising but not close to walking as shes scared of standing at the minute.

I'm back at work at the end of September and wanted to go down to 3 days p/wk at my previous branch, but my lovely employers have refused and offered me 3 variable days per week at 3 different branches, making a nursery place impossible. So i'm being forced to go back full time, and ive been really down and anxious about it as ive no idea how i'm going to get everything done Sad.
She will be at nursery 4 days and one day with my parents (which in itself is awkward as they still haven't met DH)
Looking for other jobs but there isn't much out there in my field.

Thankfully this face always makes me smile

Beautiful little girl Zana! Also, can't believe that's the working arrangement your work offered you, awful!

Nazly - Glad the weekend birthday celebrations went well, and we'll have our first actual birthday this week, wow!

ApplesTheHare · 11/08/2015 07:59

Nazly glad you had a good first birthday celebration! Ella your birthday plan sounds good. We were thinking about having a tea party for the family but it's got so complicated already Hmm

Zana I need to go on a computer so I can see your pic! Work sound really unreasonable offering you something you can't even get childcare around, poor you.

Is anybody else whose DD/DS is walking finding they've lost weight from it? Haven't been able to weigh DD but she's looking skinny Confused Blush

Topsyloulou · 11/08/2015 21:18

DS isn't walking yet but he's constantly on the move either crawling, cruising or climbing stuff! He's definitely looking skinnier. He also has the appetite of a small horse. He ate almost a whole child's portion of roast beef on Sunday!

KitKat1985 · 12/08/2015 13:53

Hi all.

Hoping you are all well.

Tues was an exciting day for me - finally hit my weight watchers goal! So lost 18 pounds with them, plus with the weight I lost before joining means I lost a total of 27 pounds. Lesson learnt though - if I ever get pregnant again I will not spend the whole time eating cake!

Jessica 11 months old today. In the past few days she's just started trying to take her first steps. DH saw her take 4 in a row yesterday but annoyingly I was in the kitchen and missed it. I suspect we've got a few bumps and bruises coming up though!

Jessica started dropping centiles when she first started crawling but now her appetite has just massively picked up and when I weighed her on Monday she's right back up again, so I wonder if it just takes their little bodies a while to adjust to the extra calories they need once they get mobile?

Lovely pic zanashar! Grin

TeamEponine · 12/08/2015 15:47

Woo hoo! Well done kitkat GrinWine

lilone1234 · 12/08/2015 16:48

I think it's Nazly's DS birthday today?! Happy Birthday!

Well done on the weight loss KitKat!
