Cheesy lentil wedges sound ace.
Christening tomorrow and I'm so disorganised. Got the cake, ds's outfit and plastic forks/ napkins / plates sorted. I don't know what to wear and most of my nice dresses are not bf-friendly. Aaarrrgh.

Oh, ds tea was veg and haricot bean curry (ours from a few days back before and salt or chilli went in) plus cucumber and carrot sticks.

There's cake MrsA, sod everything else Grin

Dinner here was omelette and pepper strips. She ate none of it.

haventgotaclue1 · 30/05/2015 20:36

Love the cake MrsA Grin

Re cheap toys: try simply rustling a piece of paper / ice-cream wrapper in front of your DC - my DD finds this absolutely hilarious - laughed so much I thought she was going to fall out of her highchair!

We've had loads of chatter today basically hasn't stopped talking ALL DAY and she looked ever so pleased with herself Smile

Food intake today: Breakfast - apple puree (most of it round her face) and piece of banana (all mashed up in her hand - none actually eaten). Lunch - pea and broccoli puree (most of it on me after she insisted on blowing raspberries with the puree in her mouth Hmm) and a couple of broccoli florets that she licked and then threw on the floor. We've only just started breakfast today, so nowhere near dinner yet.... Oh, but she did drink some water from her beaker today - yay!!!

happypotamus · 30/05/2015 20:57

Great cake mrsA hope you have a lovely christening.

DD had scrambled egg for dinner. Ate the first 2 spoonfuls like she was starving, then cried and screamed inconsolably, pausing for half a minute when offered a slice of apple. She was exhausted, having declined to nap or been woke p by her sister every time she tried, and fell asleep before the bath was ready. She woke back up while I was getting DD1 ready for bed, and has only just given in and gone back to sleep. A similar thing happened last week and she slept even more terribly than usual because she was hungry and over-tired. Earlier DH helpfully said I should focus on trying to make sure she naps more in the day. I would like to see him try that with a sleep-refusing baby who only naps in my arms and a noisy attention-demanding 4yr old.

Greenstone · 30/05/2015 23:42

So much for better sleep. Dd on third wake up since bed at 8. Think it's a mix of teeth and a late evening nap. It's always the nights i declare I'm going to bed early she does this...

ladydolly · 31/05/2015 08:00

Just left dd and dp in bed together cuddling while I head into rainy London for a work. First full KIT day and the longest I've left dd. I spent 10 minutes at the station looking at photos of her. I need to get a bloody grip!! Only 2 months til I have to leave her every day. Sad

TwigletFiend · 31/05/2015 08:03

Gorgeous cake, MrsA! Hope all is a success, take a photo of DS in his posh togs please!

Poor DD has got another cold, so snotty and snortley this morning. Dosing her up on Calpol and wafting Olbas tissues at her on a regular basis. She woke up three times in the night which actually isn't bad for us. And she went back into crib each time with no fuss, luckily.

Food wise yesterday was apricot and Greek yoghurt for lunch followed by Ella's kitchen vanilla puffits. She's hilarious eating them - they get stuck to her lip and she wobbles them about trying to get them in her mouth, poking her tongue out and kind of licking them in! Dinner was a cube of roast chicken dinner that I had frozen and a bit of mango, apple and banana mush for pudding. Taking my gran out for Sunday lunch today, so going to take a fruit pot for DD for convenience and hopefully the veg will be soft and she can have a bit of that too. It usually is when you eat out!

How are everyone's LOs doing vocal wise? We now make a long ahhhhh sound regularly at the top of her lungs but that's the only sound she has other than the whinge noise. HV told me to 'encourage her to repeat anything that sounds like a word' Hmm Bit keen, she's not even 7 months old yet! Visited with a friend from NCT and her little boy sings! So cute! He's about a week older than DD and sits up like a champ but is utterly uninterested in moving anywhere, so she was thrilled he was 'finally doing something' in her words!

TwigletFiend · 31/05/2015 08:06

Ah lady, Flowers for you. It is hard but you will be amazed once your brain starts working how quickly the time goes! You can always ring and check on her, DP will understand I'm sure. Can't remember if you're still bf, but if so you can sneak off to express and ring home then!

ladydolly · 31/05/2015 10:04

Thanks twiglet, 1st meeting done, feeling better already. At least I'm only swanning round hotels today rather than actual taxing brain work.

Poor babytwig, glad she's well enough to eat.

babydolly has very confidently said 'mama' a lot this week however I think its just another sound rather than her calling me. She says it a lot more than (dada) though smug face and happy dance she also gives us baba and gaga, I think that's it. Tesco is her favourite audience, must be the acoustics.

Strawberryfield12 · 31/05/2015 10:19

Twiglet hope your DD is better soon. Ladydolly at least it's Sunday today and you could leave DD with DP instead of CM.

DD makes a lot of baby talk, but no words in specific yet. When she was around 3 months, she used to shout "Maaaam!" every time we left her lying on her own. DP was conveniently pointing out "She's calling for you!" with a big grin on his face.

Annarose2014 · 31/05/2015 10:43

Well done ladydolly! Its great to get you back into the mindset again without actually having to go back full time yet.

Well the universe gave a hefty "Ha! Fooled you!" at me last night when DS decided to be wide awake from 2.30 to 4.30.

In fairness I do think it was the strangeness of the room that was the culprit. Strange travel cot with strange blankets left over from a random cousin, one of which had all new flowers and elephants on it. I picked him up to rock him and he discovered that there was a big red light in the corner (the bloody TV light - we don't have a TV in the room at home) and this was the funniest thing ever. So I'm hoping he would have gone straight back to sleep at home.

Re: vocalisation. We've gone beyond Aaaaaaah and into Waaaahhh Wuuuuhhh Guuuuhhhh but thats about it. He does sing to himself in the cot though which is cute. He's been giggling like the little boy in the Cow and Gate ad for a few weeks and then yesterday my MIL put on a TV channel called "Baby TV" (never heard of it, she has 1000 channels) and he ROARED laughing. Full on HYUK YUK YUK! We all got a massive shock! It was like a 4 year old was in the room!

Arkkorox · 31/05/2015 12:00

Oh god you're all doing so much better with weaning than me Sad I don't think Dd is ever going to eat food. I'm really rubbish at this Sad

Annarose2014 · 31/05/2015 15:03

Does she just have no interest? It'll come!

haventgotaclue1 · 31/05/2015 15:12

Ark I really doubt that you are rubbishat this Smile. If it's any consolation I'm finding it really hard to and not particularly enjoyable ... I'm finding it difficult to work out what, when and how much to feed dd as well as trying to fit the weaning in with her ever changing nap times and when I bf her. Also, the majority of what I do give her ends up round her face or down her bib. She hasn't got the idea of opening her mouth for the spoon but licks it....

On a brighter note, she has started to become very vocal over the last few days (currently in cot bed ar-ing, blowing bubbles, and saying da da over and over again not napping like she's supposed to be doing - she was rubbing her eyes and staring before I put her to bed Hmm

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 31/05/2015 15:42

Baby still not 100% cough getting worse had gunky eyes for few days treated with breast milk, we had had 2 weeks of 80% time sleeping through 7-6/7 but last few nights up twice with coughing then crying although last night was up once but awake coughing lots. He went to bed at 6 though as very hot screaming tired and unwell so dosed up on meds and popped to bed.

He is 27 weeks been babbling the last 4weeks saying da da da and now says it to my dh makes lots of other noises as well, often in morning in cot he shouts da da da and when upset.

Food wise today he has had weetabix with mashed mango, toast fingers n potato cake fingers (not much eaten), lunch was butternut squash curry n rice wasn't overly impressed, a Heinz biscotti. Dinner will be roast pork with all trimmings Inc roasted apples blitzed up, then when we have dinner he will have some veg of some description on highchair.

Yesterday when out at leisure centre event was some health stands with fruit kebabs and a lady was shocked I was giving baby whole strawberries to eat he loves them they were really soft he had 2 huge ones then ate a whole butternut squash risotto pouch!

ladydolly · 31/05/2015 16:52

ark don't worry, they all do stuff at different times. Some days dd eats nothing, literally nothing, just breastmilk. Some days she wolfs it all down. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. She's not getting much down her via blw, mostly sucking and spitting. Have to say giving her her own spoon was a turning point for us, you'll find a similar revelation soon I bet.

I look back longingly on the easy bf only days. The amount of time it takes clearing up drives me crazy, especially the times she doesn't eat a damn thing but still gets it all over the floor. And that's without the meal prep and packed lunches. I was so excited to start weaning too...

Strawberryfield12 · 31/05/2015 17:53

ark your DD is one of the youngest on this thread, so it's just normal that at least one thing she is doing later than others here. She has been ahead of the others in many ways, you should not beat yourself up. If it helps I had a weaning anxiety yesterday. So old River Cottage program where they analysed what's in industrially baked bread and then we went to Tesco and DH pointed at rusks that a lot of babies have in here. They have 30% sugar content, 3 times more than what I use when make ice cream. With all that you are supposed not to give any good with salt or sugar. To be honest, with our food industry - no chance unless every single meal is made from 100% raw ingredients, specially for the baby. And then some people talking about the stages of weaning. Argh! So I told myself that the only thing what matters is whether she likes specific food or not, obviously has to be on a healthy side, varied and along the lines what we eat at home.
Have you tried baby rice? That was what generated interest in DD. sometimes I think she doesn't eat because of the food itself but all the dilly dally with spoons, bowls, bibs and sippy cups. It's just all good joke for her, and the fact she can now join us when we eat.

omama · 31/05/2015 18:53

Ark the ladies are right, your dd is one of the youngest so dont worry about the weaning - promise she will get there. Smile Smile My dd also seems far behind a lot of the others but she should have been a december baby so am trying to keep that in mind. We have been weaning for about 3/4 weeks now & she is only just getting the hang of picking food up in the last few days. Mostly she sucks or chews it but doesnt really eat much. She still wont open her mouth for the spoon & doesnt seem to like purees much (unless its stewed apple or porridge & even then she likes to hold the spoon herself!)

Today DD ate/squished the cheesy lentil wedges again & tasted pasta coated with bolognese sauce for the first time & seemed to enjoy it.

She isnt doing any babbling yet, she has just progressed from squealing & shouting aaahhh to blowing raspberries constantly. Mind, she'll be lucky to get a word in edgeways with ds about! Grin Grin

omama · 31/05/2015 18:57

Oh & in other news - dd slept 7pm - 6am with only one wakeup at 2.30am & for the first time ever - no night feed!!!!

This is amazing for her as we are usually up to her anywhere between 5-10 times in addition to 1 feed. Long may it continue!!!
Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Strawberryfield12 · 31/05/2015 20:06

Tonight DD had broccoli and ricotta cheese, then she was still up when we had our dinner. She started to moan for it, almost getting up from her bouncy chair. So I gave her some of freekeh grains and small strip of lamb shank. She ate it and asked for more. So I have put some of it for later tomorrow. Will try for breakfast tomorrow rye bread crumbs, prune and cinnamon soaked overnight in Greek yogurt.
DD just exited the 5th leap, but I can see how she literally by hours are learning new skills last few days, as if she's getting ready for her half birthday.

Arkkorox · 31/05/2015 21:06

Thanks girls. I know she's one of the littlest ones on the thread I think cause her night have gone to shit and I have my mum harping on about getting Her to eat I just feel like I'm really going wrong Sad

Strawberryfield12 · 31/05/2015 21:40

Ark just tell your mum that DD is downing whole carrots every day to get some peace and space and let the DD work out when she is ready and interested. It's probably the pressure what makes things difficult for you and DD feels that there is something odd going about it.

happypotamus · 31/05/2015 22:07

ark as others have said, weaning is not a race. They will all get there. My DD is over a month older than yours and she still has meals/ days when she is not at all interested in the food. Don't worry. Just keep offering her things and she will surprise you one day soon.

DH cooked us all a mildly spiced dahl and rice for dinner. DD liked it, but was less impressed with the bath afterwards when I tried to get the turmeric-yellow off her face, hair, eye brows ...
She had weetabix for breakfast and veg sticks and bread sticks for lunch. Yesterday in the reduced to clear area of the supermarket I got a 'fruit platter' which was a variety of fruits cut into baby-friendly shapes and sized pieces, so today she tried melon and kiwi as well as having the apple, pineapple and strawberry she has had before. I would never pay full price for it but it was a change from our usual fruits.
