Ark its quite normal for nights to go to shit between 4-6 months. We had it with ds - he slept through at 3 months then started waking again lots. DD hasnt slept through yet (last night very nearly) & her nights have been horrendous for months now.

Please dont think its anything you are doing wrong. They have several huge developmental leaps in a short space of time, plus teething, so you will get disturbed nights for a while regardless of hunger. Same when they start rolling over at night, or crawling, standing etc ....... there will be other times when her nights get disturbed. She's been a fab sleeper so far - in fact one of the best in the group so I'm sure she will start to sleep better again soon.xx

TwigletFiend · 01/06/2015 08:33

Waaaaah, DD only woke up once in the night! I am so relieved! That's the first time in I don't know how long, which was brilliantly timed as I was sick as a dog yesterday and was knackered from constantly retching. Feel much better today - mainly because the look of utter horror on DPs face when he asked 'Oh God, you're not pregnant again?' made me laugh all over again this morning.

DD has had toast and jam for breakfast again this morning. It's a bit of a theme but she seems to like it and it's very quick and easy. Will make the effort to do porridge tomorrow Blush

Ark, it will come. Tell your DM whatever she needs to hear to stop nagging and then just let it happen as it happens. Does DD sit with you when you eat? We just started by having her at the table when we ate and letting her squish/play with some of the food from our plates. After a while she started grabbing for it herself rather than waiting to be given it and it kind of rolled along from there.

Arkkorox · 01/06/2015 15:50

Feeling better about things today. Dd chewed on a bit of my pitta bread at lunchtime ( didn't swallow any but it was in her mouth ) I was holding it though. Is that wrong?

She also had some parsnip purée so there is hope lol. Also slept from 7 to 5 with a bottle at 10 when we went to bed. She hardly took any of it so I'm kind of tempted to not offer it tonight and see what happens. She did have 10oz at 5 and I think if she hadnt pooed she would have gone back to sleep.

Arkkorox · 01/06/2015 15:51

She's not 6 months till Friday. I think I need to stop worrying!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 01/06/2015 17:08

Ark sounds like she is doing great.

We seem to be back to 2 wake ups when he starts sleeping through again I am saying nothing!! Seems to be this stupid cough causing grief though.

We have bbq pulled pork in baguettes with roasted peppers and garlic potatoes for dinner so the boys have fish cakes seems ds2 is following ds1 in love for fish last night he sat and chewed on a giant king prawn.

Meals today have been weetabix with fruit, some pumpkin seed bread toast, lunch was blitzed up rib eye steak mash n veggies and tea was butternut squash curry n when we eat he will have some fish cake n roasted peppers to keep him happy in highchair.

Hoping the summer weather hurries up bored of windy rainy days now.

Gr33dyeggs · 01/06/2015 18:21

Sorry to gatecrash your thread but I have a question as your babies reach half a year Smile!
Did any of you use a Snuzpod and if so how long did baby fit in it?
TIA.

haventgotaclue1 · 01/06/2015 18:57

No GR33dyeggs, sorry, we didn't.

So, today we had our first swimming lesson! Big success (and huge relief!) Grin. Yesterday was the first time we took her to a swimming pool (cos i knew lessons started today and I wanted DH to be there for her first swim and was really nervous about the logistics of it all But don't know about this business of "oh, she'll sleep like a log afterwards"....er, not my DD...30 min nap and that was it Hmm

Food intake today: breakfast - greek yoghurt and apple puree. Lunch - half a mini Babybel cheese that she gummed on (then pulled a face and spat out when she actually got pieces of it in her mouth); couple of sticks of frozen cucumber which she gummed on (none eaten); and a pea and spinach puree mix (of which the majority ended up over me when she decided to blow raspberries.....). Ark my DD turned 6 months on Saturday so, like you, and thinking it's still early days....

Arkkorox · 01/06/2015 19:47

I just tried to look for a December post natal thread so I could read and see what those babies are doing and there isn't one Sad

Sorry I've been off the radar for a while, have been reading but not posting. All came to a bit of a head with Dp but I think we're on the right track now. Big argument lots of fucking horrible things were said but now we both know where we need to work and improve our relationship and how we work our situation at the moment.

Dd has been really quiet today. Went to bed without fighting It at all which isn't like Her. Really hope she's not coming down with something!

moggle · 01/06/2015 20:24

DD started clapping today!! I've been quite emotional about it, thinking of all the things we have to teach our children as parents and it all starts here. Gulp! It is very slow-mo and delicate hand clasping but it's definitely clapping :-) she likes to do it during meals which is messy!

We are slowly progressing with food- I think DD accidentally swallowed some cheese the other day instead of spitting it out, she looked very alarmed but since then less is being spat out and the nappies are getting more interesting!

Looks like the weather is going to get summery this week, I can't wait for some sunny trips out.

ladydolly · 01/06/2015 21:15

ark It sounds like you needed the space, hope it works out for you guys.

moggle amazing!! I think dd couldn't get her arms together over her chubbiness even if she wanted to!!

Weetabix for brekkie (ate maybe a quarter). Rice cakes with almond butter for lunch (which she loved and happily sucked on) and carrot puree. Toast fingers and cheese fingers for dinner (she loves cheese and does swallow parts of it, the toast maybe melts rather than chunks being eaten).

Have just made rhubarb and peach muffins for her using rhubarb from my allotment, am very much feeling like a one of those smug mums who never swear, feed their kids only organic homemade meals and don't run out of nappies/muslins/wipes. (all that from a muffin!)

Annarose2014 · 01/06/2015 21:32

Ark that sounds about right, food wise. Taking a mild interest is all you're going to have at that stage. Don't worry about holding food - they're crap at holding things so unless you want food on the floor, hold away! I gave DS some bread with almond butter on and watched it sail onto the floor a second later. I'm torn between wanting to promote independance and wanting the food to actually make it to the mouth!

I remember lying to people in the last couple of weeks before we weaned DS. I told them he was "starting to eat a few bits". He wasn't, I was just sick of the head tilting when you said he hadn't started yet.

Annarose2014 · 01/06/2015 21:34

I'm in awe of those if you on 3 meals a day, I honestly don't have the bloody time! Off again on the road for another 3 days tomorrow after arriving home from the MIL tonight. No point unpacking again. Poor DS is going to be sleeping in 3 different cots this week! I can't expect much from him!

happypotamus · 01/06/2015 23:00

We had a couscous, chickpea and tomato thing for dinner. No one really liked it, but DD ate some couscous and mashed chickpeas then some banana. She had avocado for lunch, some in slices and a bit squished onto a small piece of toast.

Greenstone · 01/06/2015 23:07

Weetabix with banana and oat mill for breakfast. Beef stew and sweet potato mash and broccoli for lunch. Potato with apple and cheese for dinner, also some of those organix carrot sticks with a dab of hummus and a handful of grated cheese on her tray to play with.

She napped well today but has woken up twice this evening. Just fed again sigh and trying to get her off. She's smothered with a cold, I guess that's why.

ark honestly you've all the time in the world for food!
east your meals always sound great, you must be a great cook! It sounds like your ds has come on so much sleep wise since the early days, do you think it was the dairy that made the difference or some other magic trick that you would like to tell me about
Dd had been doing a lot better but swings and roundabouts I guess.
Bank holiday here today and stuck inside with the dds from howling rain and wind. Not impressed.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 01/06/2015 23:45

Hi green no amazing cook just normal stuff really :) no magic tricks with the sleep and yes so much better than the hrly waking and 6-7+ Times a night silent reflux is a barstard and that and tongue tie issues just really set us back and caused some real sleep problems due to poor feeding, I think solids have improved sleep along with being in own room although up now feeding this cough is pissing me off so much be him.

We use an angelcare mat and will use until out of a cot so around 2yrs old. Gr33dyegg I would continue to use snuzpod if it doesn't cause any issues using it then don't stop just because 6mths.

Gr33dyeggs · 02/06/2015 07:15

Thanks eastmids. I'm currently pregnant and was just wondering if it really lasts til 6 months. OH spent 3 months on the sofa so I could come sleep with our ds, so looking for alternatives!
I've loved reading your weaning stories!

Strawberryfield12 · 02/06/2015 08:40

Gr33dyeggs I had to google snuzpod, we didn't use it, but had chicco bedside crib. Bed extension cribs are the best, liked so much that now when we moved DD to cot bed, we still made it as a bed extension while she doesn't start to crawl or pull herself up or sleep through and we can move her to her own room (ha!). We moved DD to bigger bed at 5 months, she could have still stayed there but not very comfortable and she had figured out how to switch on/off mobile with the foot. Mind you, she is a long baby, on 99 percentile, we are both short, so no idea where she gets it. So you could easily go whole 6 months if your baby is smaller. But even if she doesn't stretch exactly to that, those £150 will be very well spent. Most of the nights I was feeding her half asleep, without getting out of bed, it makes massive difference, sometimes next morning I could not tell how many times and when DD had woken up because I never woke up properly myself.

Strawberryfield12 · 02/06/2015 09:09

lady I so get your smug muffin face. I grow different edibles in he backyard garden between flower and have replaced shrubs from previous owners with fruit trees. Yesterday had first strawberry and we literally ate it in halves with DH as DD doesn't overly like strawberries yet. Will make rhubarb and white chocolate cheese cake for her 6 months birthday on Thursday.
Last summer while pregnant I had a massive spree of jam and preserve making for our new family. There is still stock of jars for next five years in the cellar. What was I thinking?! Grin

Strawberryfield12 · 02/06/2015 11:35

Anna just saw that on Amazon Ella's Kitchen baby food book is sold for £5 instead of £15, thought you might be interested once you have more time

MrsAukerman · 02/06/2015 13:10

Quick update.
Teething: hour long crying fit nightly 2130.
Nearly crawling so side back on cot, first nap like that happening now. Going to miss being able to whack a tit out and go back to sleep but think for the best.
Food intake definitely stepping up. Hope it helps sleep.
Off to France camping on Sunday. Think we're bonkers but should be fun!
Christening good, don't think I've got a suitable photo to share I'm afraid.

TwigletFiend · 02/06/2015 15:08

Glad it went well, MrsA!

No Snuzpod here either I'm afraid, but I reckon DD would still fit in one now at 6.5mo, looking at the measurements. She is in a 'mini' cot at the moment and still has a bit of room in that.

DD went through FIVE bibs yesterday just from drool and her lunch. Five! She must be getting her first tooth, dribble has almost doubled in last 48 hours. Food intake today: toast for breakfast (again!), nectarine and baby rice for lunch and we are having chicken and mushroom risotto for tea, which she will have some of.

omama · 02/06/2015 15:15

oh strawberry am jealous wish I had time for growing fruits, jam making & baking!

Amy glad christening went well. wow nearly crawling! dd has just about mastered rolling so think we're still a way off that. ds commando crawled at 9 months but didnt crawl properly til 12 months so hoping she follows suit as am not ready to babyproof!

boo for the rubbish night i sympathise as we had one too. no idea why but there you go!

had a bit of a scare at lunch - think she may be allergic to eggs as gave her omelette & her face broke out all red within a few mins, with nettle rash on her chin & all red around her eyes too. she's been itchy & irritable all afternoon but it seems to be settling now thankfully. another thing to exclude from her dietSad Sad

Annarose2014 · 02/06/2015 15:31

Strawberry thanks for that link! Will check it out now.

Another night sleeping through! apart from having to reinsert dummy about 8 times

But he didn't properly awaken once, slept from 6.30-6.30 when he started singing tunelessly to himself. I feel a bit more human today. Of course in my Mums house today, different cot/bedroom for the next few days so we'll see. But I'm just so relieved he's evolving all by himself. The dummy thing will sort itself out in time, I suppose.

Naps have started changing this last wk. He's awake longer. So he'll be up at 6.30 but not nap till 9, and sleep till 10. Then he's awake till about 3, and will sleep till 4 or even later. After that he's awake till bedtime. So two naps a day, sometimes 3 if he dozes off in the car. Big change!

catg83 · 02/06/2015 15:33

Gr33dyeggs DS lasted till about 5 1/2 in his happily. Only reason we moved him is because he worked out how to scratch the fabric sides to keep himself awake. x
