Wow MrsA it's an impressive list for one meal! DD fills up very quickly even with one product.

Strawberryfield12 · 29/05/2015 08:55

Btw, do your LOs drink water? I cannot get it in her.
Anna all toys are forgotten when DD sees iPad, although, she is not allowed to play with it, it does worry me. She also likes books or any colourful piece of paper. She shakes it like crazy, but have to watch her as she likes to put them in mouth. DD is getting play nest for her half birthday. Hope she likes it.

ladydolly · 29/05/2015 09:10

I went a bit mad at aldi and got the bibs (obv), beakers, more spoons, swim pants, soft ball, swim seat, mozzie repellent, blanket.

Dd loves the stacking rings (clearly not to stack just yet) and is still really into her lamaze toys. But her favourite things are the non toys. She's been under a chair trying to reach a bag strap for about 10 minutes this morning. The washing tub is awesome. A bottle of water? Hilarious. But of course the jumperoo is king. I highly recommend finding and nct sale and stocking up on plastic crap for pennies.

MrsAukerman · 29/05/2015 09:22

Yes, he has a tommee tippee cup and loves it to the point that it gets removed sometimes so he can concentrate on the food! He does at times fill his mouth with water then let it dribble out, I think he thinks it's funny.

DD had just fruit and Greek yoghurt for tea last night. Lamb shank and mashed potato the night before, pureed with a bit of baby friendly gravy.

Stacking plastic toys are our favourites too. I build the stack and she bashes it down. I spend most of my day stacking! She will crawl/drag herself from one stack to another though and I think it's really building her motor skills. We have stacking blocks, barrels and rings. She does also like the drawer handle on our coffee table a lot. It makes a bang when she knocks it, which she thinks is hilarious Hmm

CazY777 · 29/05/2015 10:01

Thanks for answering my questions guys. DD is back to waking twice in the night and last night stayed awake from 12-2 so I'm a bit slow witted at the mo and not great at searching out information. I am hoping that food will fill her up and make her sleep more but is that just wishful thinking? She loves drinking water, and bashing the cup against everything. Stacking cups a big hit here too, and last night she discovered splashing in the bath. Very funny to watch though I got soaked!

haventgotaclue1 · 29/05/2015 12:25

We seem to be a bit "behind" everyone else - DD is 6 months today Grin
Just moved onto blending purees, and having them once a day. Yesterday it was carrot and sweet potato (big hit), today it's cauliflower and sweet potato. Did venture to giving her the first bit of finger food yesterday - the end of a pear - which she gummed on with great gusto! It's given me the confidence to try other stuff with her, so am thinking of steamed carrot / broccoli, avocado pieces, hard boiled egg....

Also trying to figure out how to fit solid food around BF. Currently she feeds 4 times in 24 hours: 6.30; 10.30; 2.30 and 5.45 / 6.00. And also trying to fit it around the 4 naps she's having at the moment....so my time available isn't huge! For the time being she's having the puree around 12.30 - after she's woken up from her 2nd nap. Am thinking of starting breakfast over the weekend - will make that around 7.30 (just before her 1st nap which is normally around 8-ish).....it's a complete juggling act!!!

Strawberryfield12 · 29/05/2015 12:48

Congratulations havent! Are you going to have a little celebration? DD is 6 months next week and I am planning to make a cake as my sister and nephew will be visiting us.

DD likes to drink from cup, but as soon as she realises it's a water she makes a yuk face and it all goes down on her chest.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 29/05/2015 13:36

Babies should have pure unsalted butter not marg unless dairy intolerance then obv dairy free spread.

Found some fruit n oat desert pots by Heinz today that are dairy free which is good as feel he always has same pudding of fruit pieces or fruit puree.

Baby flapjack went down well, 4yr old said it wayuck yeah probably needs sugar but I have eaten plenty of it :)

happypotamus · 29/05/2015 13:51

DD appears good at drinking from tommee tippee cup, but actually dribbles all the water down her front rather than swallowing it.

No repeat of yesterday's vomit so we went to Aldi. We got bibs, vests, sleepsuits, new changing mat as ours is ripped, apple crisps for me not her, 70% dark chocolate for me, learning to tell time book for DD1, DH got some chocolate brioche. It seems you had to be there yesterday if you have a boy. There were only pink, girly vests, sleepsuits and changing mats left. I have a girl but I don't like girly pink. I wanted dinosaurs instead! We had the last mat with owls on which was a bit better than the remaining pinker flowery ones.

For lunch I gave her chicken. I don't cook chicken and it would be a waste just for her, so I buy the roast chicken breast pieces meant for sandwiches. She also had a large new potato cut in half which was a good size for finger food and some veg (Sainsburys do a small pack of broccoli florets, carrot sticks, baby corn and sugar snap peas in the right size pieces that I can just cook a few pieces of at a time). She was very happy with it.

Strawberryfield12 · 29/05/2015 14:02

She drank some water for lunch! Yay!! She must be secretly reading my MN posts :)

ladydolly · 29/05/2015 18:04

Dd had cheese for the first time today and seemed to really like it! That plus toast and parsnip and apple puree for dinner. Lunch was fish pie. Breakfast was weetabix and apple slices. She seems to like food but doesn't eat a huge amount?

omama · 29/05/2015 19:08

dont worry ladydolly her appetite will really pick up when she's more like 9 months. for now if you are doing blw its just more sucking & tasting than actual eating. I've also found dd's appetite is far smaller than ds was at the same age so am not worrying too much.

We're having a bit of a milestone week - yesterday she discovered how to properly blow a raspberry so has been doing that constantly, and today she has finally rolled over for the first time & also sat up for a minute unsupported.

Been looking at all of ds' lego on the floor thinking it wont be long til he cant play with it downstairs/on the floor anymore!

Annarose2014 · 29/05/2015 19:36

God, you're all so much better at putting food together than me. Blush

I've been relying on Ellas Kitchen almost exclusively. In my defense we seem to be living out of a suitcase these days. If we're not staying in Mums house (still waiting on the nursing home) we're off to the MILs. We're going there for the weekend tomorrow. I literally never unpack my toiletries! So pouches are so handy. At least he gets a lot of broccoli as they seem to all have that in them!

But yesterday Dh did say that the 6month+ pouches are getting expensive so we're going to have to pull the finger out and make things. I'm trying to remember all your tips! Good idea re: the frozen veg. I'm going to have to have a good root around "the big Tesco" near my MIL.

We're still only on breakfast and tea here though as I'm anxious he still has a lot of formula for the calories. Haven't a clue when you're supposed to reduce amt of formula but it can't be this early, surely?

Annarose2014 · 29/05/2015 19:46

Strawberry I'm a bit worried about the iPad too. Though then in a fit of desperation/exhaustion I'll put on Peppa Pig on youtube so I've only myself to blame. He loooooves Peppa already. Blush

In exciting news, DS SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT! 7pm-7am!

I wish I could tell you what did it but I haven't a clue. I do suspect its the accumulation of a good 5 weeks of solid food though as he's been less and less hungry at night for the past 2/3 wks. Also we're not doing BLW as he's too much of a hungry hippo so he gets a lot into him. Polished off an entire pouch for tea today.

So I guess no hunger = no waking?

Am a bit nervous what tonight will bring though! I'll cry if one night is all I get!

Greenstone · 29/05/2015 19:52

Ah it's early days Anna, I have to say I do find feeding the baby a huge pain when we're at the grandparents' so I get the needing something fast thing. Other than that I've got 3 years' practice putting stuff together quickly for dd1, you just get used to it after a while.

Dd2 had beef stew and mashed potato for dinner, loved it. I added a tiny bit of prune in case it was a bit heavy. Before I gave it to her on a spoon I gave her some chunks of boiled potato which she smushed and sucked. And for dessert she had a Liga dipped in warm oat milk to soften it before I gave it to her in her hand. I never would have given dd1 Liga though I'm sure I was weaned on the stuff! Turns out they're still yummy Wink

Greenstone · 29/05/2015 19:55

X post - omg wow well done to your ds!Star

I agree about the solids. Have helped dd2 a lot but only in last couple of weeks. It's helped not only hunger but has eased the reflux and therefore the wind. Still on 2 wake ups but that is fucking amazing around here!

haventgotaclue1 · 29/05/2015 20:49

As a FTM it's amazing how I can read something and think "oh no, DD isn't doing / eating that....am I doing something wrong?"...latest thing I read on the Weaning section was how many times a 6mo was being BF: 5 times during the day and twice at night. My DD is BF 4 times during the day. She doesn't feed during the night. So, illogically (she's on the 98th centile for weight FFS), I'm worrying that I'm not giving her enough...Hmm

Anna - YIPPPEEEE Grin - really hope it happens again tonight!

CazY777 · 29/05/2015 21:25

We were down to one feed at night and wake ups 4.30-6am, and then she slept through for two nights and I thought (hoped!) that would continue for a while. But then it all went to pot, she got a virus and wouldn't sleep in the cot, was waking up every 2-3 hours to feed and not going back to sleep for hours. She's still spending half the night in bed with me because she won't settle back in the cot after I've fed her in the night. So, I'm hoping solids are going to help her settle better.

ladydolly · 29/05/2015 21:59

haven't I did the same thing in reverse. dd feeds 7 or 8 times a day (incl nights) and I was worried she can't go longer than 3 hours without a feed. In fact I am still worrying a bit, she used to sleep 7pm til 1am but can't do that anymore. Hopefully when she takes more food (thanks *omama) she'll go a bit longer.

Chuffed for you though anna!!!

Annarose2014 · 30/05/2015 11:15

Well last night was ok. Not quite sleeping through but certainly pretty near. He woke for a feed at 11.45 and then grumbled and squirmed a couple of times at around 2.30 & 6. But I just had to pop the dummy in and he didn't actually wake up.

So that's not bad really. I forgot to say yesterday that one thing I've been consciously doing since he's established on solids is reduce the post midnight feeds. If he's hungry fair enough, but if he's not I stop immediately and use the dummy instead. Now he doesn't seem to look for bottle after midnight.

Strawberryfield12 · 30/05/2015 13:35

Anna that's a great news! Btw, have you tried pack of baby wipes or a nappy as a toy? (joke) We have a fight over used nappy every time I have DD on a changing table. Grin Babies probably are much cheaper than we would like to think buying all the Fisher Price etc gadgets.

DD had a buckwheat pancake and mashed up banana for breakfast today, some mozzarella cheese and mashed up prune with baby rice for lunch. No idea about dinner yet.

Since she has started to sit up for prolonged periods last week, jumperoo is a second choice pass-time here. She'd rather sit in the grass and clap her hands at the lawn now.

Annarose2014 · 30/05/2015 17:50

Yes to both! Thank god for baby wipe packets. And today I gave him my sock box to sort out and he spent a merry 10 mins dumping each pair out methodically. We've also taken the batteries out of an old remote control and he looooves that.

The MIL is one of those people who insists on a very fancy coaster under your mug. He's discovered how to nom on those today and leave them sopping with spit, much to her horror.

omama · 30/05/2015 18:57

lol Anna my ds used to love coasters too!

Latest toy recommendation: Tomy eggs - dd LOVES them! They are aimed at 12 months + but dd is enjoying grabbing at them & emptying the box. Way more interesting than freddie the firefly. Who'd think a box of plastic eggs could provide so much entertainment! She's also discovered she can bang toys on her highchair & smack her lips today. Loads happening this week!

Food wise dd has had porridge for brekky, cheesy lentil wedges & banana for lunch and toast & apple slices for tea. the lentil recipe was from the blw cookbook - it made loads & was bloody disgusting though she seemed to like it.Grin Grin
