How about strapping it to your back happy?! It could be a new fashion trend! Or could it go under your LO in the pushchair as a temporary cushion? Wink

Sleep all over the place here. We had two or three Okish nights and then last night he was up every hour from 12 and every half hour from 4. Love him.

catg83 · 27/05/2015 09:23

We are off to Aldi too today. The reuseable nappies looked good but the sizes are too small for my bruiser. But the swim nappies look good and who doesn't love a cruise round aldi? Wink

catg83 · 27/05/2015 09:48

Scratch that...Aldi baby event doesn't start till tomorrow.

ladydolly · 27/05/2015 10:24

Also on Aldi event countdown! Bought the exact travel cot last week though, dammit. DP suggests we go apocalypse on the nappies which basically means enough to keep us going even if there is an alien invasion.

thisis We are also miles from getting this sleeping malarky nailed. Up at 10, 12, 3 and then up for good from 5.30. If I go to bed early it's totally doable but I reeeeeally hope it improves before I go back to work! I console myself that she is a very happy baby these days compared to early weeks when she slept all night but cried all day!

Marzipanmodelling · 27/05/2015 15:05

Lots to catch up on, they're busy babies nowadays!
I'm in the same boat as you lady, DS has calmed down from lots of crying in the day as a young baby but nighttimes and evenings are still v disturbed. I can get him down for 6ish but he'll be up four times before 11 and then hourly from then on until 5.30 when he wants to fully wake. As I predicted (same with DS1) eating food is not really making a difference so will try protein and carbs before bedtime. I'm mixing between BLW and purées as he's on the little side so I want to make sure he's getting food in. Also he had reflux as a baby and seems to gag a lot on chunks of food-has anyone else had this?
Thanks for the Aldi tip!

omama · 27/05/2015 21:09

Marzipan my dd is gagging lots too & I seem to remember from doing this with ds that he got a lot better at eating actual solid pieces of food once he was more like 7/8 months so am hanging in there for her to get the hang of it.

Am struggling with the purees with dd though. She wont open her mouth if I offer her the spoon, so I'm loading the spoon for her, which was ok with her first tastes, but since we progressed from apple, porridge & carrot she's not really liked anything else very much. I know it can take many tries before they like something but its very different to ds who wolfed down most things I offered him!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 28/05/2015 10:13

Just made some sugar free dairy free flapjack for me and the boys not taste tested yet but hoping ok it's a rough recipe add as you please to it, 100ml boiling water, add 2handfuls dates or raisins and 2 chopped bananas blitz with hand blender, add 2 handfuls chopped apricots and enough oats that it's thick and stodgy about 5 handfuls, press into a greased tin and bake on 160 for 25mins.

Annarose2014 · 28/05/2015 17:22

I think DS has started to learn his name! Eveytime I say it to him he bursts into a big shy goofy smile. Its very exciting!

(Though has been undeniably a bit like training a dog to know its name, lol)

MrsAukerman · 28/05/2015 19:07

Ds knows his name but only if I say it, not dh. Poor dh.

Great invention yesterday. One egg, beat lightly in bottom of small / cereal bowl. Microwave on full for 1 minute. Turn out with knife and slice into about 5 slices. Great for blw, especially as veggie. Tonight's version had a little cottage cheese and grated courgette in.

CazY777 · 28/05/2015 20:46

I'm going to try that tomorrow MrsA, thanks for posting and I'd be interested in any more veggie ideas. I was getting a bit uptight about what to feed her but I think I'm just going to give her a bit of what I have. We're trying avocado tomorrow. I'm enjoying seeing her eating new things.

Our fire alarm just went off as DH is cooking and DD didn't stir at all. Last night she woke up when DH sneezed!! She also seems to know her name, which is surprising as I'm still calling her bubba!

happypotamus · 28/05/2015 21:01

I had an idea inspired by the regular 'What's For Dinner' threads on MNChat. We can each post what we fed our babies for dinner. We might ideas from each other as long as no one judges random uninspired meals.
Today is not much help from me though. DD had toast (which she didn't eat) and banana rather than proper dinner as she completely covered me and her in vomit this afternoon :(

omama · 28/05/2015 21:06

DD is recognising her name too. And if I ask her 'where's DS?' she looks round for him its really sweet. Grin

Nice eggy idea Amy I spose its a bit like omelette. DS used to love that as a baby but not tried dd on egg yet. One for next week perhaps!

DD has actually successfully eaten sticks of melon, bread, carrot, roast potato and a raspberry today! She is so much happier self feeding so looks like I need a few more blw recipes up my sleeve. Anyone got any recipes for lentils?

happypotamus · 28/05/2015 21:08

In other news I took her for another visit to nursery today. I left her for 10mins and she barely even noticed I was gone. This is great as her sister used to scream the whole 45mins I was out the room for weeks though she was ok once she actually started staying all day. The staff are not phased by a potentially dairy-free baby (apparently there are several there) or by a baby who will only nap in my arms (her sister was the same and they sorted her). DD1 did at least sleep at night though. DD2 shows no sign of sleeping more t Han 2hrs. I am exhausted.

omama · 28/05/2015 21:22

nice idea happy.

out of interest, how are you all structuring milk feeds around solids? are your babies still having the same volume/number of milk feeds in the day?

dd has milk feeds at approx 7, 11, 3 and 7 and im doing solids about an hour after but it feels like I spend all day feeding her! my friend used to do solids followed by milk but im not sure dd is really old enough to do that yet. her milk intake has already dropped a bit since doing 2 meals a day too, though she's still wanting a feed at night. bit concerned that if I swap to solids first she'll want more at night to make up for what she's not having in the day?

ladydolly · 28/05/2015 21:40

omama Yes! Also feel like feeding all day! I bf her to sleep though. So solids at 7.30, 12.30 and 5. Bf at 6.30, 10, 1.30, 4 and 7. Sometimes a bf 'snack' late morning and mid afternoon. Then night feeds at 10.30, 1ish, 4ish.

I normally give toast and fruit at dinner, today she had rice cakes. Lunch was sweet potato puree and cauliflower florets (which she was not interested in at all).

ladydolly · 28/05/2015 21:41

I should add that I thiiiiink she's taking the same amount of milk as before weaning...

ladydolly · 28/05/2015 21:57

happy A friend who had a baby a couple of weeks before me just posted on fb her dd went through the night last night. Before last weekend she'd woken up hourly for the past 3 months. So there's hope for us yet!!

CazY777 · 28/05/2015 21:58

Good idea happy, we've only really started properly with food as she's just 6 months (she's had some purees) so just having two meals a day at the mo but I'll start giving her dinner soon.
I'm a bit clueless about this, so can I ask - am I not supposed to give her tomatoes yet? She had a good suck on one today (not the first time) with me holding it. Also, toast - with margarine? Or butter?

catg83 · 28/05/2015 21:59

Brilliant idea for food sharing. I have been scouring the Internet. We were planning on giving DS just a bit of what we were having but we were having takeaway tonight so had to find something else. Ended up making savoury flapjack to use up veg. 200g each of grated carrot, courgette and cheese, a small onion grated, 200g porridge oats, 2 eggs. Smush it all up together and press it into a tray, bake at 190 for about 20 mins. Cut into baby friendly shapes. It makes loads. We had a taste and it was alright (needed saltWink ). Went down OK with DS. He spent most of the time breaking it up (we have only been doing BLW a week) but some went in.

catg83 · 28/05/2015 22:01

Also...Anybody been to aldi. We got a pack of bambino mio reuseable nappies, the reuseable swim nappy in both sizes and a tommee tippee cup. Had the travel cot in the queue when a friend tapped me on the shoulder and told me she had one I could borrow so that saved £20!

Greenstone · 28/05/2015 22:48

Dd had a ball at dinner today. She really enjoyed it. She had: 'medallions' of roasted sweet potato and a dab of hummus, followed by some baby rice cakes with a mix of banana and almond butter smeared on them, then I spoonfed her the rest of the banana /almond mix. Happy to say almond butter is fine for her.

Dh went to aldi, got The Bibs and also a random tablecloth and a jacket for dd1 Hmm which I secretly love

Greenstone · 28/05/2015 22:51

Tomatoes are fine Caz. They can be an allergen, some babies do get a bit red around the mouth after eating them but it's normal enough, you'd know if it was a proper allergic reaction. Toast with butter better than marge imo.

omama · 28/05/2015 23:27

Yes to toast with butter. I was allergic to tomatoes as a baby - bright red raw rash around my mouth and also in the nappy area too.

Dumb question - where do you buy almond or other nut butter (not peanut) from? Is it in the supermarkets? With the peanut butter? Blush I hate peanut butter so its not something I ever look at!

Annarose2014 · 29/05/2015 00:03

We got a few bits - vests in age 9-12 mths for later on, the food bibs, the wee socks (adorable!), and the sun shade tent thingy.

Might go back again and get the soft balls as DS is getting a big bored with our limited supply of toys. Thank god for the Jumperoo - all he wants to do is bounce. What toys are big with yours nowadays?

We are definately giving less formula. Not sure exactly, but no way we're still on the same quantity.

Strawberryfield12 · 29/05/2015 07:10

Yesterday DD had chicken tagine in purée. Talking about different versions of toast, DD likes toast with coconut oil.
Other day tried bits of roast pepper and sweet potato, but she was gagging on them. Blended with single cream and she loved it.
Also yesterday DD got a bit of a guilty pleasure. I was making woodruff ice cream and as it was relatively low in sugar and didn't have any offensive products, gave her a taste and she went mental for it. Must have helped with the teething or love for ice cream is genetic these days.
