OMG Shock.

TOP TIP: Do NOT just leave your baby in a nappy in their cot bed if you're expecting a poo explosion. No wonder poor DD been crying: managed to pull undone one of the side nappy tabs and had done a big poo....luckily, it was fairly solid (combo of the first meal of meat and lots of banana???) so didn't go everywhere, but very close shave Grin

Arkkorox · 01/07/2015 09:07

Oh my god havent that sounds like a nightmare poo situation narrowly avoided!!!

haventgotaclue1 · 01/07/2015 11:33

Absolutely Ark Grin

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 01/07/2015 11:54

Haven't wait til s he can remove nappy and smear it everywhere in cot heard many horror stories of this luckily ds1 never tried to take his off although he was bagged every night til 2.5yrs so prob why.

haventgotaclue1 · 01/07/2015 12:49

Really eastmids???? ShockShockShock

ladydolly · 01/07/2015 16:42

When my nephew was a toddler he pulled his nappy off and smeared poo all over the cot, when we found him he was chewing on the poo covered cot side (vom!). He gets reminded of this whenever he's being a stroppy teenager.

Arkkorox · 01/07/2015 17:39

Oh god the monitor is saying dds room is 32 degrees!!!!

haventgotaclue1 · 01/07/2015 19:51

Ark I feel your pain - ours is reading 29 at the moment Sad - DD cried for 40 mins before she eventually fell asleep (in short sleeved vest - have learnt from this morning NOT to leave her just in a nappy Wink) and really felt for her. Thing is, temperature is meant to fall to 16 tonight here, so will have to put a blanket over her at some point and hope not to wake her (so am not putting her in the sleeping bag)...

ladydolly · 01/07/2015 21:18

I read a top tip on here haven't that once they can take their nappies off, put them on backwards for night time!

Arkkorox · 02/07/2015 08:24

Well dd went 8-7:30 no wake ups. I feel like a new person! Luckily much cooler here today thank goodness. I quite litteraly didn't know what to do with her yesterday other than sit her in her mamas and papas chair in her paddling pool!

haventgotaclue1 · 02/07/2015 08:48

Snap Ark Grin - well DD went from 7.30-5.30 with no wake ups and is currently one hour into her 1st nap of the day Grin - much cooler here too, so hopefully will mean a better day. I also plonked DD into her new £12 Sainsbury's paddling pool (what a bargain!). She seemed very happy and it cooled my feet too Wink

ladydolly · 02/07/2015 08:49

It was hideous yesterday wasnt it? We went to the cinema, it was empty but was a genius move, I'd have paid £5 just for the air con.

Last night was awful. She went down ok but it was so hot she couldn't get comfy and was moaning and rolling around in her sleep all night. I nearly lost her over the edge of the bed despite being hemmed in by pillows.

Spare a thought for those without a garden. Roll on this bloody house move!!!

Arkkorox · 02/07/2015 09:18

Oh ladydolly that's rubbish, I couldn't cope with no garden what with the dog in and out all day.

Dd has just flopped asleep on my lap, oh no now I can't do the washing up. Grin

Annarose2014 · 02/07/2015 14:39

Nursing home is a success so far - staff can't do enough for us, food is fantastic and the room is bigger than first bedsit. I'm relieved, even though Mum is still very shy.

We've already hung all her paintings and photos on the walls and have all her own bedding.

All good except a 93 yr old resident told me I was lovely looking........."NOT LIKE THOSE SKINNY GIRLS!!!!!"

Blush

Must. Do. Sit. Ups......

haventgotaclue1 · 02/07/2015 15:23

Oh Ark, what a shame Wink

Really glad everything is going well for your Mum so far Anna...and it may be a complete presumption on my part, but did the 93 year old happen to shout this comment too??? Grin

ladydolly · 02/07/2015 17:01

anna that is great news, you're a lovely daughter you know.

I can't wait to be old and walk around being rude to everyone!

Annarose2014 · 02/07/2015 17:34

You would be correct! He also roared "I'M A DANCING CHAMPION YOU KNOW - YOU LOOK LIKE YOU ENJOY A DANCE YOURSELF!"

Cringe!

Strawberryfield12 · 02/07/2015 19:59

Anna did you ask/shout him to show off his best dance moves? Grin
Good to hear your mum is in caring hands.

haventgotaclue1 · 02/07/2015 20:07

What a huge difference a cooler day makes! Compared to yesterday DD has been a wonder-sleeper; fed like a horse; and been so happy and smiley it's ridiculous Grin - shame that it's going to be hot again tomorrow....

So, food-wise: breakfast - Porridge with mashed up strawberries and a couple of fingers of toast. Lunch - butter beans, parsnip and sweet potato. Greek yoghurt and mashed up banana for pudding. Tea - chicken and vegetables. Fromage frais for pudding.

Has anyone got some imaginative ideas for puddings? Think DD is going to end up looking like a piece of fruit / fromage frais at the rate I'm going...

MrsAukerman · 02/07/2015 21:39

Personally I would make as little effort with puddings as possible. If you don't eat them often why get baby used to them?
Having said that.....
I made frozen yogurts using the IKEA ice-lolly things. It was stewed pear and blueberry with Greek yogurt. They're a bit big though so if you could find mini milk sized ones they'd be better.

OP posts:
ladydolly · 03/07/2015 08:57

I don't give dd puddings, I never had them as a kid and I quite often incorporate fruit into the meal and I barely have time to make her main courses

Yesterday toast with peach slices for brekkie, lunch was butternut squash and mango curry, dinner was carrot and cauliflower pilaf.

We were supposed to start sleep training tonight but I'm worried about doing it in the heatwave, she's been restless at night and I don't want to not feed her if she's thirsty in the heat at night. We were going to do peekaboo, do you think I could just do it for bedtimes and nap times to start with?

Arkkorox · 03/07/2015 10:08

We have a tooth!! Thank god for teething gel!

Greenstone · 03/07/2015 10:14

Anna glad to hear your mum is settling. It must be such an emotional time, I can't even imagine. I hope that, after visiting your mum, you get to take an hour in a cafe with a nice coffee and the paper on your own while your DH is with DS. And if not you should!

I'm really pleased with DD2's eating, she's taking and tasting everything really well now, but because she had quite a strong gag relux I don't want to overfeed her too much of one thing - that can sometimes be overpowering.
So last night they both had lentil curry with tomato, spinach, carrot and cauliflower, and then I made them a smoothie of banana, coconut milk, dates, and almond butter which they were crazy about (I thought it could have been improved only with a dash of rum and some ice, but you know).

We don't normally do desserts here either but I have lately been spoiling the DDs rotten with all of the lovely summer fruit, strawberries especially. The other day they had Greek yoghurt with strawberries and Dd1 had some toasted almond flakes on hers. Somebody mentioned the doughnut peaches upthread - those are the best baby food ever, must try and get some! I think Lidl usually has some.

lady I don't know what peekaboo is, but IME if you work on the settling for naps and bedtime, that itself is a huge help. I really don't think dd2 could go 12 hours without a feed yet. obviously she wouldn't physically expire, but it would be an awful lot to ask of her. But she had a great night* last night, down at 7.30pm, just two very quick feeds at 11.30 and 4.50 and up for the day at 7am.

*Disclaimer: She did have neurofen because the second tooth is just cutting through..

Greenstone · 03/07/2015 10:20

Yay ark a tooth! I got ridiculously excited about the first one the other week.

DD2 has her 7-9 month check up next week. I really hope they're not going to do a cat's bum about her weight. She hasn't been weighed for ages so I've no idea how much she weighs. She is still a really petite baby but has delicious thighs now and is doing so well on food that I'll probably feel a bit irritated if they tell me to give her rice pudding after every meal (as they did with equally petite dd1).

happypotamus · 03/07/2015 11:15

anna glad your mum is setting in.

I wish we could have a tooth! She was 8 months old last week and still has no teeth. It feels like she has been teething forever.
Sleeping not too bad (comparatively). She has stopped crying for a hour or two at bedtime (for now at least), and I don't really notice her waking up much. The other day DH asked me what time I had bought her into our bed. I had no idea, didn't remember doing it at all.
I've been busy taking her to visit nursery and taking DD1 to visit her school. School has confirmed that their staggered start means that I will be going back to work the week she starts full time despite me extending mat leave to try and be there for her. Also, before school club is not available to new children 'until they have settled in to school.' I can sort of see their point there but it is still a nightmare for working parents.
