Crap night last night, after 2 nights of dummy helping it did SFA last night. She wasn't screaming just wouldn't go to sleep and very restless. Had to feed 3 times. So I think either tooth 2 is imminent (all signs are there) or else her dinner is not agreeing with her. Gave beef stew last night and wondering if that's too hard to digest. She's eating loads too but that ain't resulting in sleep!

Anna don't worry you'll hear ds if he needs you!

Strawberryfield12 · 28/06/2015 17:37

And then this morning I found an edge of the 1st tooth has cut through, no wonder nothing would help her sleep any longer...
The flight last night was ok, DD was fine with take off and landing, but had a meltdown, she was very tired, but could not manage to sleep bcs plane was freaking exciting and then a number of passengers cooing over her, so too many distractions till she broke in really bad cry. Had to take her at the back of the plane behind loos where nobody would bother her. She soon collapsed into so feel sleep, that even Ryanair's silly adverts would not wake her.

Arkkorox · 28/06/2015 20:57

Anna don't worry you will hear him I promise. I even wake up if dd sneezes!

Last night dd fought bedtime like I was trying to put her in a cot full of snakes, eventually fell asleep about 8:30 and did her first night of absolutely no feeds till 6 when I woke up and was convinced she was dead so went into her room think she would have gone longer if I hadn't woken her.

So I'm going to stop doing the dream feed when I go to bed and just see what happens! im far too excited about a possible 9pm bedtime

Still battling with this sodding jaw infection. Getting utterly fed up of not being able to actually eat anything.

ladydolly · 28/06/2015 21:30

What's everyone putting dc's in for night times in this weeks heat? Tonight I've put her in babygro with no covers...

Arkkorox · 28/06/2015 22:12

Last night it was just a vest and nappy ( though I put pj bottoms on her when she woke up)

Tonight it's cooler so she's got pyjamas and a light sleeping bag

haventgotaclue1 · 28/06/2015 22:24

Good question ladydolly. I've got the Grobag things and am sticking to what it says on the back of the room thermometer that comes with it. So last night she was in a long sleeved vest and the 1 tog bag. Tonight's cooler, so long sleeved vest and 2tog bag. Wednesday is meant to be baking, so think it's going to be short sleeved vest and 1 tog. Will also keep bedroom window closed, black out blind down and curtains pulled during the day in anaattempt to keep her room cooler (it's south facing and is forecasted to be 27 degrees during the day).

I've got a beginners question re how you fit everything in - I mean milk feeding, meals and naps. How do you do it? ??!!!! Currently dd wakes between 5.30-6. I bf her around 6.15. Breakfast around 7.30; 1st nap about 8.15; bf 10.30; another nap; lunch around 12.30; maybe another nap; bf around 2.30 / 3;just started to introduce 3rd meal today (dd is 7 months today) - if you count toasted tea cake - @ 4.15; bf @ 5.45 as part of bedtime routine.
So basically the day is made up of eating, drinking and feeding. ...is this what everyone else is finding?

MrsAukerman · 29/06/2015 02:51

Yes, very little free time yet I somehow manage to go to a group at least 2 or 3 days a week. I quite often eat out after a group though so take finger food for ds / share my food with him then he'll nap in sling on walk back. It was so much easier before weaning.

OP posts:
haventgotaclue1 · 29/06/2015 06:01

Oh that's a good idea MrsA - must do that (take food with us) as we also have 2 groups and swimming lessons that we go to. ...

We had a good holiday btw (was with extended in-laws for a whole week Wink) - dd was brilliant and also slept really well in her travel cot and strange place. Very nice to be just the 3 of us again though Grin. For the first time ever dd fell asleep whilst I was carrying her in the sling! FOR A WHOLE HOUR! !!! Must say, it was a lovely feeling (& she looked adorable Grin)

ladydolly · 29/06/2015 10:05

She finally gave me an easy night!! Down at 7 no probs, up at 1 and 4 for feeds (skipped the 10pm feed) and then in bed with me 6 til 7. She was bloody starving at 1am though so will need to factor this in when sleep training.

It was a massive shock to how much time weaning took up in the day!! I try and multi task. While she eats I wash up or put make up on. I also batch cook carrots, sweet potato, broccoli for the week. But even then I still have had to give up walking everywhere, I just don't have time now :(

She seemed a little cold in just her babygrow last night so stuck a blanket on her and she slept fine.

Strawberryfield12 · 29/06/2015 10:51

On a warm day DD sleeps in a vest and 2.5 togad sleepbag, on a hot one (around 30 degrees on a day) it would be a blanket instead of the growbag. Idea being that she needs the same amount of layers as us.
I am slowly giving up making any special food for DD, for two days she has been sharing food with me and seemed really content, grilled salmon and my mum's strawberries have been a huge hit.

Annarose2014 · 29/06/2015 15:50

Yes, the merry go round of feeding, milk and naps is very tough. If its not one thing its another.

We find finger foods help cos you can potter about beside them putting laundry on or washing up. We've just discovered potato farls cut into soldiers. So handy for lunchtime! He just amuses himself for ages with them.

We still batch cook veggies and fill ice cube trays (hes on 4 cubes for dinner now, the monster) but we're definately trying to share our dinners too as its more efficient.

ladydolly · 29/06/2015 22:03

Urgh. Been in to settle her 4 times since 7. Possibly the heat? She just has a quick cuddle and back to sleep.

Not that interested in her food today, half an apple slice and 2 spoonfulls of porridge for brekkie. Ellas pouch (jerk pork) for lunch, chunks of cheese, broccoli and sweet potato for dinner.

Realising what a terrible temper she has, I tried to help her with a slice of strawberry and she screamed and hit me away. What a brat! Grin

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 30/06/2015 04:27

Oh the whinning noise is certainly getting irritating although normal at 7mths.

I have given up on puree/mash at lunch and just bung food on highchair. Breakfast still is barely eaten.

Yesterday was weetabix with fruit, lunch was fish, twisty pasta, peach quarters and soft boiled carrot sticks followed by fruity custard, he had 1/4 raisin bagel mid afternoon, dinner was fish pie followed by oaty fruity custard then supper was crumpet and 1/2 flat doughnut peach.

If sleeping hasn't improved by 8mths will have to do some sleep training which I am not looking forward too yes ok I may get paid to do it for others but it's easier when not your own but cannot see how I can go back to my day job and still get up at night plus I would like to get back to some night nanny work before end of the year as I enjoy it and the extra money was my pocket money for nice fun things

Annarose2014 · 30/06/2015 16:34

Anyone else have a baby constantly grabbing at their face? Its getting old. Whenever he's near my face (i.e. All the time) he flails at it with his little claws and no matter how short I keep his nails he always hurts!

He actually drew blood on my inside lip earlier grabbing at my mouth.

Greenstone · 30/06/2015 17:11

Yes and my hair.
Anyone else have a non napping baby? Well as in short napping. Dd does 50-65mins in the morning but lately only 30-40 in the afternoon. Despite every nap-extending trick in the book Hmm

Apparently she should be getting up to 4 hours in naps at this age. Right now it's so not happening.

MrsAukerman · 30/06/2015 17:20

I think 7 months they reckon 2-3 hours of naps. Also that first nap is over 1 cycle but under 2. Mine very rarely does that. Today he slept 1.5 hrs before lunch then he slept again 2 hrs later and I moved him about 30 mins into his sleep and he woke up and that's it. I'm not beating myself up about it. Lower your expectations and you'll be chuffed.

Annarose2014 · 30/06/2015 18:59

Yeah our naps have gone to pot this week. Mind you, he is in a new growth spurt. We were really struggling with getting him down this afternoon.

Strawberryfield12 · 30/06/2015 19:56

DD has been grabbing people's faces and pulling my her for some time now. But this morning she did a proper go at my ear, was pulling it and picking my earring so diligently, that first time in my life I was delighted she saw my mobile and got distracted.

Last few days she has been sleeping until later (7.30am), so her naps have moved forward and she isn't doing the early evening one anymore. Less time for naps but longer nighttime sleep. I wonder if this could be something to do with the time difference between UK and Europe?

haventgotaclue1 · 30/06/2015 20:19

Yep plenty of face-scratching / hair-pulling / glasses being knocked off here too.

Length of nap times has changed over the last couple of weeks too. DD was having 4 short naps (30 mins) a day; but since last week or so, it's gone to 3 naps - tends to be a shorter one after breakfast of about 30-40 mins around 8am (she's awake about 5.30-5.45); around an hour or a bit more late morning (11ish - 12.30ish); and another hour around 2.30 - 3.30. Then that's it until she goes to bed for the night between 6.30 - 7. DD turned 7 months yesterday...

ladydolly · 30/06/2015 20:42

Dd seems to have entered seperation anxiety at full speed. She's never been a cuddly baby but she now only wants to be on me. Even at baby group (that we've been going to since she was 6 weeks) she had to be on my lap. Made for an interesting webex with work this afternoon.

Naps (and all sleep basically) have always been shit. 3 x 45 mins. 8.30, 1pm and 4pm. Ocasionally she'll bring the 1pm one forward if we go out in the car/buggy at around 12.

Sunday night was a fluke, last night she was up every 30 mins until I brought her in bed with me about midnight. Then awake from 2-4.30. She seemed to be desperately tired but just can't get herself off to sleep. Watching her flop her little head down only to bounce back up a minute later all frustrated, I felt so sorry for her.

Bloody hot innit?

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 30/06/2015 22:51

Yep we have face grabbing here actually any grabbing especially when feeding nightmare

Nap wise good days 3-4 naps of 30-45mins each bad days 1 nap. Ds 1 was such a dream sleeper 45mins am n pm plus 2hrs at lunch til 6/7mths then 90mins twice a day am n pm til about 13mths and then 2.5hrs at lunchtime til 3yrs when we stopped the nap and slept 11-12hrs at night from 15weeks we have done nothing different with ds2 although he had the tt issues and has silent reflux which has instilled some bad sleeping habits

haventgotaclue1 · 01/07/2015 05:11

Yeah ladydolly and meant to be even hotter today where we are but fortunately cooler tonight. Went to music group yesterday and you could tell who all the first time mums were as conversation was purely about what to put dds / dss in when sleeping Grin

Food wise we have now progressed to meat (which she had for the first time yesterday), fish (trying that today), & pulses (had lentils mixed with puree a couple of days ago). So far she's wolfed down everything - couldn't believe how much she had yesterday: breakfast was porridge with 2 strawberries and a couple of inches of banana mashed up in it (ate the lot); lunch was a carrot, potato and beef minced meat mixture (ate the lot) followed by a frozen cucumber stick, 1 strawberry and 2 segments of orange. Due to massive naps (heat?), didn't have tea until 4.45pm (an hour before I start the bedtime bf session) so just gave her a pot of fromage frais (again, ate the lot). Now I'm just waiting for the nappy explosion. ....Grin

MrsAukerman · 01/07/2015 07:28

Ooh talking of nappy explosions, ds hadn't pooed since Thursday then did a small one yesterday so I'm feeding him little bits of Ella's prunes and trying to avoid banana. Also trying to get him drinking water more and bfing a bit more cos of the heat etc. Any more ideas?

OP posts:
Annarose2014 · 01/07/2015 08:02

You could do tummy massage but the prunes will work eventually. I don't envy you when they do!

Been up since 6 and am knackered as I didnt get to sleep till 1. My Mum is going into a nursing home at 3pm today and I feel sick at the thought of it. We all know its for the best, she's adamant its the right thing......but we've all found that its all very logical in theory but utterly terrifying in practise. She said to me in a very small voice the other day "I just hope they're nice to me.....I feel so shy with all those strangers....Do you think they'll let me have a photograph of your Dad?" It broke my heart.

Needless to say we'l practically move in with her for the first couple of weeks so DH is rejigging his hours to take care of DS as much as possible so I can transition Mum gently and do a lot of hand-holding. Dreading today.

DH is still fast asleep in bed as he'll be on his own with DS all day. So jealous!

haventgotaclue1 · 01/07/2015 08:28

Oh Anna Sad - really thinking of you - I got goose bumps just reading your post and what your Mum said to you....

MrsA - didn't realise bananas acted like a bung...think I'll ease off those for a bit then! Wink

DD trying to have first nap of the day - lots of chatting going on, which is better than the crying from earlier on. Have just left her in her nappy as the room thermometer reads 26 degrees - it's not even 8.30am... oh, oh, crying started agin.....
