Oh, forgot to do a sleep update too!

Not a bad night. She went to bed a bit earlier than usual as she'd not slept enough during the day. She fed three times through the night. Not ideal, I really think it should be once or twice, but she settled quickly and easily after each one. She woke at 4.25, earlier than her usual 4.45 but that might be due to her going to bed early. I did manage to settle her though, and she slept until 5.25, I then had hard work to keep her in her cot until 5.45, but I did it!!! Grin

A partial success. Still a lot better than a week ago and showing signs of continuing improvement Grin

KitKat1985 · 02/05/2015 08:40

Good news on the sleep improvement Team. xx Just to say with the weight gain, I would be very sceptical of the scales showing a 3lb gain in a week. I suspect it's more to do with water retention or something. I think now that contributed to my poor weigh in on tues (ad then my period starting on thursday, so that answered that mystery). A lb is apparently about 3,500 calories, so to put on 3lb you would have to eat over 10,000 calories in excess of your required amount of calories in a week to have put that on. 3 minor chocolate indiscretions wouldn't put you anywhere near that! Hopefully you'll see the results of your hard work next week. xx

Baby slept well last night. But I woke at 4am to blood pouring out of my nose. Absolutely no idea why. One minute I was asleep, the next it was a case of "what on Earth is that?" as I put a hand to my face. This was followed by stomach pains so bad I had to breath through it, like when in labour.

We had chip shop for dinner last night, so I am thinking that is the cause of the stomach ache. No idea about the nose bleed though.

TeamEponine · 03/05/2015 07:07

Oh, FATE, that doesn't sound good. Hope you're feeling much better today.

Last night wasn't too bad. She did wake four times for feeding, which isn't great, but she settled well each time. She woke a fifth time, but didn't want milk. She couldn't settle so I gave her some nose drops and she zonked (she has a cold). She slept past 4.45 and didn't stir until 5.15, I managed to settle her and she slept until 5.30. Still made her stay in her cot until 5.45 though.

We are making progress, but I'm not too impressed with the number of feeds she had last night. I'll tackle that next, for now I'm concentrating more on self settling and the 4.45 issue!

DD seems to have had a cognitive leap this week as she's suddenly started doing lots of new things. It's such good fun.

I am quite worried that her name is about to become very popular. Sad

Acorncat · 03/05/2015 09:02

Well DS slept 5 hours without a feed last night which is the first time in months. He did have to be resettled by DH at the start tho. Unfortunately as he was sleeping in my bed and on my pillows I had to stay up until he woke at half 12 incase he suffocated. And he fed tons after that. Tonight we try the cot again!

Glad some of you are having more luck with the sleeping - it gives me some hope!

KitKat1985 · 03/05/2015 09:45

Oh dear Fate are you okay today?

Fingers crossed for some more sleep improvements for you Team and Acorn. xx

lilone1234 · 03/05/2015 13:07

Team - remind us of your DD's name? Is it because of new royal baby? Also, if she has a cold perhaps she is feeding so much during the night because she's thirsty due to being all blocked up? Hopefully will reduce once she feels a bit better.

DP left the house this morning in a huff for football. We are having to go up north for 2 nights tomorrow to go to his grandmothers funeral. She was very old (in her 90's). We could do it in a day which would be a lot less hassle but instead we have to pack the shit load of stuff a baby needs and pack my dog off to my brother. For my own mothers funeral
(a much sadder, sudden and younger death) we were there and back within a few hours as his parents were watching DD. We both agree it's a lot of hassle and unnecessary but it's what his mum wants us to do. I'm not pleased about it, but am not allowed to voice that. He's also annoyed I didn't sit and get drunk with him yesterday because I was busy doing other things (household chores and caring for our baby) while he sat and did fuck all as per usual. But it's my fault we don't spend any time together or have fun...

Sleep is my alcohol, has been for a long time now.

Much better now, thanks for asking. I think I must have eaten something dodgy. No idea what the cause of the nosebleed was though. hay ho, better now.

Got all broody yesterday, watching news coverage all day. Had to keep telling myself that Baby #5 is not ever going to be an option so I must get over it!

My eldest daughters name is in the running for the Princesses name. Fingers crossed for Alexandra. Her middle name is also in the running too, as it happens. Would be really odd if she has both first and middle name as my daughter.

TeamEponine · 03/05/2015 15:11

Yes, her name is one of the favourites for the princess. One of the things I like about the name is that it is well known, but not too well used.

FATE, would you really like a fifth?! I'm totally in awe of you having four. One is challenging enough for me!

Lil, sorry your DP is being difficult. They can be such children sometimes!

I do really like a glass of wine, but I stopped drinking vast amounts a while ago, mainly as I couldn't deal with the hangovers! I have a small glass of wine when I'm preparing dinner most nights, maybe once a week I'll have another small glass after dinner. (I did stop feeding before returning to my nightly glass of wine!)

lilone1234 · 03/05/2015 15:25

I'm excited to see what the new royal baby will be called - all the names in the running are lovely! Alexandra is a very pretty name Fate. Stress can cause random nosebleeds! Used to get them around exam time!

I'd also much rather sleep than get pissed too ladies! I don't know why he thinks it's feasible for us to both get drunk when we I have to look after DD.

Sigh. It's all stupid really as we're both annoyed at the same things, we're both feeling quite strained as life feels a bit relentless at the the moment and we both feel that we don't get enough time together doing anything nice and we both don't want to meet unreasonable family requests (which regularly come from both sides) but end up taking it out on each other. Really, I need to chillout a bit and be more flexible but in order for that to happen he needs to meet me in the middle and do a bit more to help get things done! We both agree on that too but somehow he still ends up sat in front of Sky sports or at football every weekend. Sorry for the ranting ladies!

jaykay34 · 03/05/2015 17:27

Quite a bit to catch up on, so will have a trawl through in a minute. Just read the last few posts...and I'm another one finding drinking hassle. I used to drink at least every Friday night as my Mum always had the twins overnight on a Friday...but since being pregnant, I have gone right off drinking. I am not in the mood for hangovers or going out or acting like an idiot anymore ! I used to love a night out and a drink...but it's like it's out of my system completely. I don't even miss it or feel as if I am missing out.

ApplesTheHare · 03/05/2015 19:04

I'm another one not so bothered about drink. After giving up bf I got so drunk one night just because I could, and DH looked after DD all the following day but it was still HORRIBLE having that hangover! Never again. DH and I have agreed that we'll take it in turns to have a few drinks so one of us can always look after DD. If we're at a wedding for his friends he'll have a few, and vice versa if it's an occasion from my side.

CumbrianExile · 03/05/2015 20:18

So, we are trying the sleep training tonight. I am currently sat listening to A crying and DH soothing and trying to stop myself going up and bringing him down. But its only been 15 minutes so I must stop myself.

I still like a drink, usually have a can or two of cider, but not every evening (although I will be later I think!) but dealing with a hangover and a baby is not fun!

We have our first tooth today, I was putting some Anbesol on earlier and he bit down on me, it was very sharp! Still not all the way through yet, but we are almost there. I think this may have been the cause of his sleep regression!

FATEdestiny · 03/05/2015 21:05

We had two of our worst nights ever with DD in the days following her first tooth. I hope things are better for your DS Cumbrian. It was short-lived though. We did two doses of ibuprofen and paracetamol through the night, but just for 3 nights.

Nazly · 03/05/2015 23:07

Anybody with laminate flooring here? What sort of anti slip solution ,if any, you have?

Topsyloulou · 03/05/2015 23:22

Good luck with the sleep training Cumbrian. DS's two teeth are very sharp, I try not to put my finger near them if I can help it.

We've got wooden flooring in the living room where DS spends most of the time. We've got a big rug in the middle of the floor & put some foam mats around it for when he goes on his rolling expeditions. We've also got socks & baby gros with the rubber dots on the bottom to help when he stands & you can buy baby gros with them on the knees as well to help when crawling.

I'm another one who's gone off alcohol. I had a glass of wine tonight but only because we've got friends staying. For me it's three things - the hangovers, not feeling in control & the empty calories impacting my weight loss. It's 6 syns for a medium glass of wine or 6 syns for a bag of crisps & a diet coke or only 3.5 for a mint viscount & tea. I'd rather save the syns for food. I'm going to a very boozy all day party next Saturday & i'm dreading it.

Thanks Fate and Topsy, it took 1 hour of settling before he dropped off, but he slept through. Hopefully tonight we will cut that time down, fingers crossed Grin

TeamEponine · 04/05/2015 10:06

Well done Cumbrian! The first time is the worst. Just keep with it.

FATEdestiny · 04/05/2015 15:05

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. It's nice, I like it. Smile

TeamEponine · 04/05/2015 15:52

Yes, a lovely name! I thought she would be either Charlotte or Alice. DD is Elizabeth Grin

Acorncat · 04/05/2015 17:17

Does anyone else's baby keep falling over from sitting and banging their head? And are you worried about it? I thought it was fine, part of learning etc but DH is more concerned he's going to do some damage to himself. DS was beginning to crawl but has decided that's boring and now just sits himself up from his front or back. Which would be fine except his balance is only about 90% so still goes straight backwards sometimes. Before I could leave him for a few seconds and he'd have moved, but was at least still be on his front. Now I have to hover about him. We have laminate floors which doesn't help.

We also have lots of head bumping and laminate floors. DD regularly falls/face plants/bounces off all sorts of hard surfaces and is fine. It happened when we were in hospital last week about her neck and the consultant was totally unconcerned, said it's a normal development phase. We have got a few squares of that interlocking foam play mat stuff scattered for the floors and that's great as there are fewer bruises but we've got it for hygiene as we have a dog plus lots of visiting dogs.
