jay, great news re the sleep, what did u do differently? we r still averaging around 5 wake ups a night. ..yawn

TeamEponine · 23/04/2015 22:25

Today DD totally refused her afternoon bottle. I wouldn't worry too much other than she has cmpa, so can't have any dairy, so I'm not sure she will be getting enough calcium. Any suggestions for good non-dairy sources of calcium?!

TeamEponine · 24/04/2015 05:42

I. Need. Sleep.

That is all for now.

Sad
Acorncat · 24/04/2015 08:31

team calcium - I give readibrek and oatly milk, both have added calcium. Hovis best of both has tons of calcium, unfortunately it also has soya so we don't use it but if you're just dairy free then it's fine. Brocolli and spinach are good (kale also but haven't figured out how to get DS to eat that yet!). We have pitta and houmous (hummus?) too.

No help with the sleep though Sad

jaykay34 · 24/04/2015 09:38

beccus All I have done differently, is try not remove him from his cot when he wakes up. So I feed him in the cot. If I do need to take him out to change him then I put him back in the cot awake then just sit up so he can see me until he falls asleep.
Last night he woke 3 times and took an hour to settle the first time round, so not as great as it has been.
I am not feeling great for the extended sleep - I've got a dull headache and feel even more tired !

Beccus · 24/04/2015 14:31

thanks jay. we have been Co sleeping with cot next to bed and side removed, but I noticed he was stirring and settling in the early evening, so I wondered if the all night bar was the problem and evicted myself to the lounge sofa. 1st night was not too bad and last night was good. he sttn (5 hrs 8 mins) for the 1st time in months and am really hoping it wasn't just a coincidence.

TeamEponine · 24/04/2015 19:04

Thanks Acorn. She is soy free, so can't get the hovis but I've ordered some ready brek. I just use her neocate whenever I would use milk, and that has plenty of calcium in it. She will eat both broccoli and spinach, although she's not too keen, so I'll work on those more.

I was reading up on this and apparently haricot beans are very high. I'll get a tin of those and take the skins off the beans. I think the mush inside should be easy to mix in with her meals.

I'd think if she has ready brek for breakfast every morning, at least one of the high calcium veg and at least 18 oz of neocate that should be enough calcium for her.

She is allowed eggs, so we are trying that tomorrow for the first time.

Acorncat · 24/04/2015 21:50

Team - I find the soya free more of a pain than the dairy free. Both the paediatrician and the dietician recommended hovis best of both, despite just saying to avoid soya - clueless! I've not been brave enough to try egg yet, though I have no reason to suspect he'll be allergic. Paediatrician said try it first it something cooked (like a pancake) but dietician said give it cooked on its own Hmm. Have you seen a dietician? I got lots of leaflets though tbh there's better info online.

I'm a terrible cook, the closest DS has come to healthy haricot beans is baked beans Blush though I did buy a tin of cannelloni beans to try a recipe out and they'll probably sit in the cupboard till they go out of date

TeamEponine · 25/04/2015 07:05

Yes, I never realised how much stuff has soy added to it! We have seen a dietician and are due to see them again when DD is nine months to check out reintroducing dairy and soy. Similar to you though, they weren't really that useful, just lots of badly photocopied leaflets. Online has been far more helpful.

Week 3 update:

  • weight loss: 1lb this week, 4.5lb total (aim: 1 stone)
  • seven minute workout: everyday (aim: everyday)
  • walking: 37km (aim: 30km)
  • chocolate indiscretions: 2 minor incidents!

I'm pleased that I have lost this week, but I've been so good with exercise and I've had barely any chocolate, so I'm gutted it is only one pound. At least it is a loss though. Maybe I need to start being stricter with what I eat. Other than avoiding chocolate and not indulging too much, I'm not really doing anything diet wise.

I also just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you for indulging me and my weekly updates. A couple of times this week I've been tempted to have a bug bar of chocolate, or to skip my daily workout, but knowing I'm updating on here stopped me from doing it. I've never stuck to an exercise regime for this long before, so thank you! Flowers

jaykay34 · 25/04/2015 07:57

Team Well done ! As you are exercising, you may be gaining more muscle - which is heavier than fat - hence not seeing drastic weight loss. You will probably see more changes in body shape and clothes fit as opposed to weight loss
Also, you are doing it the right way - as if you lose masses quickly- it will go back on. Small and steady is the key to keeping it off.
Keep on going, sounds like you are doing great Grin .

LillyBugg · 25/04/2015 09:16

That's great team. The fact that you're exercising alongside the sleep issues is amazing to me! Dh is on a health kick at the moment. He's always trying to lose weight and nothing works because he doesn't stick at it or do it properly. He's decided to count calories this time and just do as much walking as possible. He's using an app, not sure which, but it does seem to be working. He has massive self control issues so being able to see how many calories he has left each day has really helped him decide if he can or can't eat something. I've been enjoying the extra walking to, as has DS!

I was woken up 3 times last night, and we had been getting to a pattern of only 1 or 2 times. Isn't it surprising how quickly you get used to something? I feel exhausted today! And yet I used to manage on two hourly wake ups for months on end...?

RedToothBrush · 25/04/2015 10:26

Team my fitbit is brilliant as its making focus on what I'm eating as well how much exercise I'm doing, but I believe it takes its data from myfitness pal.

I'm finding going veggie or having fish as an alternative to meat is making a massive difference to weight loss.

Also I don't think cutting out chocolate is the way to go if you are craving it that much. The mini kinder bars are great for rationing.

I've just been swimming. I am now breaking the diet for bacon butty with omelette. I am bad.

Plus its my reward for DS waking AT LEAST once an hour on Thursday night.

TeamEponine · 25/04/2015 13:29

Thanks all for the encouragement!

DD has quite a bad cough. She seems fine otherwise. No temperature and she's not snotty at all. Doesn't sound like a croup cough. She does cough a bit through the day, but it seems worse at night and it is keeping her and us up. Just wondered if you had any ideas as to what might be going on or what might help?

FATEdestiny · 25/04/2015 13:39

2nd night of 11 hours sleeping through. Brief cry at 4am this morning, thought I would need to feed. As I turned over to face the cot and re-insert dummy, DD had shuffled and settled back to sleep without it. Result!

I've had this before though. I think this is the fifth spell of fully sleeping through. Then something happens and she goes back to a night feed. Odds are that as soon as I stop taking a bottle with me when I go to bed, that she'll start wanting a night feed again.

TeamEponine · 25/04/2015 17:59

Oh, how exciting FATE! Fingers crossed for you.

FATEdestiny · 25/04/2015 18:13

I'm under no illusions, it's probably just a temporary (good) phase that will pass.

KitKat1985 · 26/04/2015 08:42

So, did she manage a third night Fate? x

Nazly · 26/04/2015 09:37

Finally - I think I caught up now... It is weird, I was thinking last night my feeling to this forum is like my feeling to a book, a story book you are reading and enjoying, so I can't suddenly miss a few pages in it , not knowing what went on(!) however tired I am with very little time!!!

Apple thanks x

Lilly I liked your previous user name but like your new one even more

Jay he is adorable - I like his outfit A LOT , such a poser... At this age :)

Red where do you get the colourful boys cloth that it is so easy? I like to have variety of clothes but I find the more practical more affordable ones are normally dull colours

Holls hope your ds is all ok now

Team WellDone ! & I mean it...

I had comments about every subject discussed in the past week but have forgotten now...

News here- have been really busy with work, working full time a lot of the days (but flexible hours) so have been working till 11-12pm, then sometimes trying to catch up on here but fell asleep after a couple of posts. Have given up on most other forums and online socialising now apart from here and one I have with high school friends...

Is it normal that sleep gets worse the more mobile they get? He immediately starts to move around as he is about to wake and wake himself up completely. A few night wakes here and most nights I am co sleeping from 1am or midnight as I just wont be able to manage it otherwise. We never had issue with going back to sleep, last night he was up from around 4am to around 6am aaaagh...

We lowered the cot yesterday as it was getting too easy for him to sit himself up and then he was trying to stand using bars too many times

Quite a few other things I wanted to share or ask but can not remember now, will be back soon I think

lilone1234 · 26/04/2015 11:00

Welcome back Nazly! How is DS getting on with nursery? Sounds like you are very busy with work!

I have found that DD's sleep has gotten worse. We're going to move her to her big cot in her own room soon (I keep putting it off!) but i'm putting her for naps there to get used to it and because she can roll over and shuffle around in it she keeps herself up much longer than if she's in her crib. The flip side of that is in her crib she's too big and tries to roll and ends up smushed against one side therefore waking herself up!

KitKat1985 · 26/04/2015 12:21

Sorry I meant to say above well done Team! Excellent progress! :)

Nice to hear from you Nazly. How are things going with nursery now? x

FATEdestiny · 26/04/2015 15:25

So, did she manage a third night Fate?

Well, erm, kind of. Not quite. No feeds again last night, but a few wake ups that I can remember where I had to lean over and re-insert dummy. So not as good as the previous nights. Everything is a phase, and all that.

Nazly - Great to see you back! I echo above, how is nursery going for your DS? Completely understandable that you will post less often now you are back at work and busy. Please stay in touch every now and again though.

I don't so much have problems with a mobile baby in the cot when awake, but for a few months now, since she's been rolling I have problems when she's asleep. She likes to sleep squished with her face down in the edge between cot side and base. The moment she moves in the night she whacks her head on the side of the cot. Most of the time it doesn't seem to bother her and she just shuffles and goes back to sleep, other times (like last time) I have to reposition her because she keeps hurting herself, banging her head every time she moves.

RedToothBrush · 26/04/2015 18:55

I shop all over the place. I have something of a yellow radar and always look out for it.

Today we went to my parents. My Dad was keeping an eye on DS and this was the 'conversation' I heard.

THUNK
"Oh that was just his head on the door"
"No not that. That's anti-freeze"
"No not that. That kills rats" My Dad works for a pest control company

Confused

DS has learnt the word Eh-oh in response to Hello in the last couple of days. And more worryingly he's just come out with "NO!" (Can't think why he is familiar with that one)

DS has got worse with sleep the more he moves. He has a tendency to wake up and start crawling or climbing with his eyes still closed and half asleep. It is partly why he's in the bed with us as it gives us more time to get him back to sleep before he wakes up completely.

holls2000 · 26/04/2015 21:11

Hi Nazly! How us nursery?

Was bs christening thus weekend which was lovely but v busy and b quite unsettled.

He woke at 5am both days, had a bottle and eventually went back to sleep till 8.30. However last night and today he has been crying in his sleep, I go in to soothe him but he is ok. Bit disconcerting, but I am hoping it is due to busy weekend and being out of routine.
