team I spoke to a mothercare "expert" last week with regards to car seats with the new law being in forced (babies have to stay rear facing till 15 months) we have two options for E either hope that he still fits his stage 0 car seat at 15 months and than switch to the forward facing pearl or if he doesn't fork out for a whole new carseat that is rear facing at whatever age he grows out of his current seat.

Nazly · 12/04/2015 10:48

Team, not boring at all, really good post as I felt I should start doing something too. Well Done for an excellent first week

Car seat, agree it is a minefield; ds is more that 10kg now and current car seat getting tight and uncomfortable. Not sure what to get next. Got maxi cosi family isofix and prefer to keep using it if possible instead of paying for another one

TeamEponine · 12/04/2015 11:08

The three that I'm looking at are all extended rear facing, so until they are 18kg or four years. All are fine with the new laws. The joie stages looks good in terms of value as, although it is the most expensive, it goes to stage two, so will last the longest. Love the look of the cossatto though!

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2015 11:20

We bought a Cosatto Giggle Car Seat (Old Style - they have since updated it) which is 0+ so suitable up to 13kg. It should do us for a good while longer, as DS is only just over 7.1kg but long and skinny.

However I wasn't entirely happy with it and wasn't getting on too well with it for various reasons so we bought a Joie I-anchor as well as we have two cars. The I-anchor is certified to the new I-size safety standards, suitable up to 4 years old (or 18kg) rear facing (though you can use it forward facing later on if you want). It works with isofix cars or just with a seat belt. You need a base for it which means its not cheap, but I really recommend it. Its suitable from birth too (for any of you considering more).

Getting no where with DS's skin allergy. He has an allergy to the cream recommended by a doctor to help with his sore skin. Its affecting his sleep and feeding now and I'm struggling with both. I don't know what to do or try.

ApplesTheHare · 12/04/2015 12:37

Thanks everyone about the pill Smile KitKat hopefully it's just and adjustment phase like you had.

What are these new car seat laws that I've never heard of....??Blush Confused

Red the allergy sounds very stressful Thanks I've missed any previous posts about it - do you have any idea as to the cause?

Acorncat · 12/04/2015 14:34

I use the britax dual fix, have used it since birth though. It should do until he's 3 or 4.

Still some allergy going on here too, just his face really but I think he's being sick more too. I suspect it's either egg or beef but it takes a couple of days to affect him so could be anything really. He finally has his dietitians appointment tomorrow, not sure they'll be able to tell me anything I haven't already read.

Can I ask how many naps your babies are having now? We're still struggling with them which is ridiculous after 7 months. He seems to be having 2 of 1-1.5 hours but that means he's tired and cranky by 6pm when we're trying to get his tea. Or if I try and fit in an extra one about 5.30pm then he's still grumpy, sleeps too late but still wakes early.

FATEdestiny · 12/04/2015 15:51

I was reading a thread on here about the carseat changes only the other day.

It may be a hassle but rear facing car seats are safer for the baby than forward facing seats are. It's a hassle for us because I like to have the baby seat in the front and can't do that until forward facing because of airbags.

No one likes to think of the worse happening but although my others were moved into forward facing car seats when carrying the Group 0 was got heavy. DD will be staying in it until 9kg and then I'll be keeping her next sized seat rear facing too (it can be either) until 15 months as recommended.

I could never forgive myself if DD got hurt in a car accident and she wasn't in the safest position for the carseat.

Acorn DD often has a short 30 minute powernap around 5.30pm to get her through to bedtime. She has two longer main naps.

lilone1234 · 12/04/2015 16:52

I have the Britax Babysafe which can be used up to 13kg. DD is just over 8kg now, so should last a while yet...probably will narrowly not get to 15 months though...

Acorn - DD usually has two 1-1.5 hour naps (morning and afternoon) then a last nap that's generally no more than an hour at 6. She can refuse that at times now though and last (crankily) til bedtime, or she stays up longer between morning and afternoon nap so doesn't have that last nap. Your nap patterns seem to be missing the late afternoon nap but i've read that's the first one that gets dropped anyway so you probably would be fighting a losing battle with it if your DS doesn't usually have it. Have you tried stretching the time out a bit between the morning and afternoon nap?

Those links don't really contain any great tips to encouraging naps I don't think but they do all say the same about babies having 2-3 naps a day this age, so I don't think your DS is far off the mark.

Could you bring bedtime earlier or are you worried that will make him wake even earlier? Overtiredness leads to earlier waking so it might have the opposite effect.

ApplesTheHare · 12/04/2015 18:04

I'm so glad somebody asked about naps. Acorn I've been wondering about it too as dd is down to two 40-minute naps per day. She's sleeping for 12 hours at night so I'm assuming the minimal napping is enough, though slightly freaked out that her two-year-old cousin still has a longer daytime nap than she does!

Acorncat · 12/04/2015 18:10

Thanks for the links lil Smile. So 2 or 3 naps are right, that's good to know. Today for example he woke up about 7.20am, slept from 9.30-11am then 2-2.45 which is shorter than usual so he fell asleep in the pram while out for a walk 4.30-5.30pm. This is actually a good routine for him as now he's awake enough to get tea, bath and bed for 7.30pm. But unless I'm in the house all day it just goes to pot. I tried to get him to nap in his cot yesterday and he got so upset Sad it just felt like a massive step backwards as he's started falling asleep himself as long as I'm holding him.

lilone1234 · 12/04/2015 19:07

Your nap routine and waking up time is very similar to mine Acorn. She self settles quite well in her crib most of the time she's put down (white noise on) but it took a lot of perseverance and now similarly to you, she's having regular screaming fits being put down now. Developmental milestones throw their sleep off and this does seem a development rich time and I also think they become more aware and determined to get their way! If she doesn't want to sleep she'll start screaming as I lower her into the cot before her back even hits the mattress!

As they get older they'll naturally be able to last longer between naps but I think sometimes we get more into the routines than they do and still put them down at the same time. But then again, there's very often times I know she's tired when she's telling me she's not!

I have the same problem with leaving the house wrecking the whole routine!

lilone1234 · 12/04/2015 19:16

Apples - The sources i've read all say about 14 hours sleep across 24 hours at this age so if your LO sleeps 12 hours a night you're not too far off with two 40 min naps, but it's not great amount of time for you to get anything done in! My DD sleeps about 10 hours a night in comparison. Perhaps your 2 year relative may be sleeping less than your LO at night!

Beccus · 12/04/2015 20:44

mostly 3 naps here - 1 long (90-120 min) & 2 short (30-45). bedtime has had to be moved back from 7ish to 8ish as he can now stay up longer before needing to sleep. occasionally we get 2 long naps in or a super long lunch time nap (2.5 hrs) and can get away without a 3rd. still averaging 4-5 wake ups a night, although was only up twice last night, which was a miracle.

TeamEponine · 13/04/2015 09:48

DD is on three naps a day. About 30 minutes a couple of hours after waking, 30 minutes mid-morning and an hour after lunch. She's now pretty much dropped the mid afternoon nap now, although if we are out in the car or pram she might doze for 5-10 minutes.

She sleeps 6.45 until about 5.45 (albeit with a few wakings!), do she's getting about 13 hours sleep a day.

How about food routines?

DD is now on three meals a day, although she's not really having any meat/fish yet and she's not great with veg, so her diet has a base of banana, pear and bread/biscuit/rice. At every meal I'm adding in other things, so it is more balanced than it sounds! Water with every meal, and she's now quite good at drinking it.

She has breakfast at 6am, lunch at 11.45am and dinner at about 4.30. She's dropped one bottle during the day and one at night, and she's on 5oz bottles. Four bottles during the day (7.30, 10.15, 2.30 and bed) and 1-1.5 bottles at night (usually around 11 and 3).

I've only really worked on getting her into a proper routine, with things happening at set times, over the past week or so. I'm not too bothered about it, but with returning to work and DD starting nursery I'm trying to get a routine established already that will work with that and that fits with the routine they have at nursery. I'm hoping that if her nap and mealtimes aren't disrupted she will find it a little easier to settle in.

whiteblossom · 13/04/2015 10:57

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've been on here but wanted to say hi and it it seams that my ds is going through the same things are you.

Ds has two teeth and two more coming, goes through the night without a feed (still wakes due to teething) is yet to sit unaided, very frustrating for both of us!

Has/is anyone trying to get pg again? We are taking no3. ...Thoughts, I'm mixed up about it. Morning sickness with a baby, recovery, possible bleeding, coping afterwards.

As for pg weight, I had lost all but 2 lbs. ...then the shit hit the fan with my family, dh and two friends!!! (Not all linked I hasten to add ??) so I'm dreaded the scales but once school hols over ill be back on it, I hate being this big.

What gossip have I missed ?

whiteblossom · 13/04/2015 11:03

Team The spots on the pic don't look so bad... my ds has several all the way up to his eye but they come and go, I was told that babies do get spots...gp not worried but ds has skin issues and many creams. I suspect cheese may be connected though so holding off for now.

whiteblossom · 13/04/2015 11:07

OP posts:
ApplesTheHare · 13/04/2015 14:47

lil that's a good point! Also good to know 14 hours is about right.

Our routine here atm is roughly:

7am wake and 7oz bottle
8:30am breakfast
9am nap
11am 5oz bottle
12:30 lunch
3pm 5oz bottle
5:30pm tea
7pm bottle a bed!

At our NCT classes they told us that it was pointless and old-fashioned to try and get babies into a routine but we got to about 3 months and dd clearly needed one. Pretty sure she's happier for having it Smile

ApplesTheHare · 13/04/2015 15:07

holls what snacks do you find work well? I can't seem to find much in the way of snacks that is fairly clean to eat but also healthy.

TeamEponine · 13/04/2015 15:11

White - welcome back! Interesting to hear that your LO also has spots further up towards their eyes. That was one of the things worrying me as it it outside of the "dribble zone".

I think we did have a weight loss thread, but it never really stayed active. Maybe we can just restart that up?

TeamEponine · 13/04/2015 15:12

lilone1234 · 13/04/2015 15:34

Welcome back white! We discussed TTC again a little while back, a few people said they were planning to start trying around next January! Think that was the soonest anyone owned up to!

Our food routine:
7:30ish Wake up
8/8:30 Breakfast
9/9:30 7oz Bottle (usually leaves 1-2oz)
9:30/10 Nap
12:30 Lunch
1/1:30 7oz Bottle (usually leaves 1-2oz)
2:00 Nap
5:00 Dinner
5:30 7oz Bottle (usually leaves 1-2oz)
6:00 Nap
7:00 Bath
8:30/9 7oz Bottle (usually drinks all this one) and bed!

Her bedtime still needs to be earlier really but I have managed to get it down from 10pm! Any earlier won't really work until she's in her own room as she's too easily disturbed. She needs to move soon as she's outgrowing the crib and it will be unsafe for her soon.

Hello all.

Team was it you that was wondering about a bad dribble rash? Jessica has a similar rash to your little one (including being a bit outside of the 'dribble zone') but HV has just advised to put Vaseline on it, so will try with that and see how we go.

Saw HV today to get Jessica weighed and get some advice on weaning as she's still eating practically nothing as has turned 7 months now. HV says we are giving her too much milk and that may well be the problem, and that we need to gradually start cutting down her milk. Apparently with formula about 21oz a day is recommended for her age, but Jessica is having nearly twice that. Blush Bad mummy getting it wrong. I'm so used to feeding her on demand where she was bf for so long that getting down to about 3 x 7oz feeds a day as recommended is going to be a challenge....
