We had to bring DD to A&E with croup tonight, have just got home. Was terrifying when she woke up in a blind panic struggling to breathe! We were at friends for a nct meetup and one of the dads is a GP so luckily we knew what it was pretty quick. She didn't get better even with standing outside with her for a while, so we came to hospital. She calmed down nicely and fell asleep after we got the steroids so hopefully she'll be fine now. There's a lot of it about at the mo - there were a couple of young teens in paeds a&e with it- never knew it could go on to that age!!

amy83firsttimer · 15/03/2015 03:49

ark and strawberryfield that sounds like a right pain! I'd definitely go to formula. I'm so stingy though but I'd love a night out!!! (still won't take a bottle properly....)

moggle ! Scary. Is she Ok now??

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 15/03/2015 06:34

Moggle hope she recovers quickly croup sounds v v scary and I have always advised under 1 get seen in hospital with it as often they need the steroids and most don't need to stay in once had n monitored.

Croup can be caught at any age although the airways aren't so narrow so shouldn't cause issues like for babies unless have other issues such as asthma.I had it when pregnant the cough was bloody nasty.

Strawberryfield12 · 15/03/2015 06:58

Oh god moggle, thank god there was a GP there! Didn't know about croup, makes me realise how much more there is what I have no idea, but what could affect our LOs.

Happy mothers day everyone! Somehow it never clicked to me that I am a mum and it's my day until got flowers this morning from DH and DD. Smile

Strawberryfield12 · 15/03/2015 07:05

amy at the moment I am still in the state of mind "it takes 5 mins to express and have it loads, why should I give formula instead", but not sure how long it will last. Also makes difficult to be out of home for longer than few hours as it's easier to BF than express in public.

Before I was thinking I would defo BF until introducing to solids and then would see what she wants, but now Hmm. At the same time she recognises when there is BM in bottle and when FM. Always makes that whee, it's disgusting face before having FM.

amy83firsttimer · 15/03/2015 07:50

I suppose if you have loads of free milk it'd be daft to buy formula!

Happy mother's day to you all.

DH is working 11.30 - 16.30 but I'm heading out for lunch with my parents, brother and SIL and 2x dNieces. I have a stinking cold and v sore throat but DH is doing his best to make sure all that I'm doing is feeding and drinking lots of Brew

Nice easy dinner has been arranged for after he finishes work. I hope you all have as easy a day as possible, especially Annarose Flowers

Greenstone · 15/03/2015 08:33

[floBrewwers]Cake to everyone especially moggle and Anna who have no doubt had long nights.
Dh is taking both dds out for a walk now. I am in bed with tea and toast. First time in 4.5 months!

moggle · 15/03/2015 08:37

Thanks all, DD seems much better today though the underlying cold is making her v snotty and she's coughing but it's not the croup cough thank goodness!
Happy Mother's Day all!! xxx

Annarose2014 · 15/03/2015 09:10

Croup sounds terrifying! I don't know anything about it so I'd better look it up!

Good news here, Dad slept all night as we obvs got the dosage of Quietapine right. Night nurse coming tonight anyway but how wonderful if we cracked the nighttime problem!

Happy Mothers Day ladies!

happypotamus · 15/03/2015 12:03

moggle hope your baby recovers quickly. Croup is scary.

anna glad your dad slept through and you have help sorted so you can sleep ( as long as DS lets you)

Happy Mother's Day everyone.
My Mother's Day has not been full of the joys of motherhood so far. From 3.30am onwards DD2 compelled me to 'sleep' sitting up as she screeched every time I lay down because she didn't want to lie down even if she had seemed fast asleep before I tried lying. Then there was a poonami at 7 ish with DD1 shouting from the other room because her duvet had fallen off while I was trying to clean up all the poo. DD1 cried and moaned because she didn't want any of the options available for breakfast, then bent my fingers back when I suggested turning off the programme she watching, which wasn't even in English, to get dressed. And my left breast is all sore and hard on one side too. Hoping for a better afternoon though DD1 still isn't dressed as I gave up on that and went to church with just DD2. I did get some nice presents though so I know DH appreciates me at least!

ladydolly · 15/03/2015 12:34

Happy Mothers day all!!

I had a bit of a sleep deprived melt down yesterday (triggered by dp saying 'lucky you' when I said I was going to have a 30 minute nap in the car - oh yes!! so lucky to be woken 6 time last night!!). Good timing though. When babydolly didn't want to sleep after her long feed and poonami at 5am I popped her into dp's room and went back to bed. I've never done that before. It was amazing. Now all she's done all day is a high pitched scream. Like a baby dinosaur. I've no idea what it means but wonder if its her teeth hurting her.

Missed my nephews last ever footie match this morning before he joins the mens team (weeps, how did he grow up so fast?!!) but now outside sister's while babydolly snoozes.

Roast being cooked for me later :)

amy83firsttimer · 15/03/2015 17:08

Gah! DS's present seems to have been making sure he's awake all day for me (except 30 mins in the car after lunch) Hmm

Turns out crying while he's crying doesn't help. Sad

Arkkorox · 15/03/2015 17:43

I tried that one on Friday amy it didn't make either of us feel better!

happypotamus · 15/03/2015 21:04

Spoke to my mum this afternoon to wish her happy Mother's Day. I jokingly said about my Mother's Day would have been better with more sleep. She, in all seriousness, told me I should feed DD formula at night so she sleeps through and put her in her own room so I don't hear her. She seemed genuinely surprised that a 4 month old isn't sleeping through the night despite having had 4 children the youngest of whom is only 17. She also thinks I should be weaning her on to food by now. I resisted te urge to either laugh at her suggestions or tell her to shut up with her stupid 'advice'.

Annarose2014 · 15/03/2015 21:41

I've started lying to people. "Is he sleeping through yet?" "YES, YES HE IS"

Cos I just can't deal with it. I think he's doing fine, he only wakes up twice these days - 11.30 and 2.30. I think thats pretty good, but when I've told the truth I get the head-tilt of pity, and the inevitable suggestion of baby rice in the bottle. Hmm

Annarose2014 · 15/03/2015 21:42

Oh and happy mine is FF and it makes damn all difference, you'll be glad to know.

omama · 15/03/2015 22:19

Happy Mothers Day everyone. Smile

happy - mine is FF too & she still wakes at night too!

Anna - glad you had a better night with your dad - hope that the night nurses provide some welcome relief & also hope that DS's teeth improve soon.

moggle - croup can be nasty - hope DD is feeling much better soon.

strawberry we are also finding dd is getting distracted during feeds (FF) so have to sit somewhere quiet. Remember this with ds but it passes so hang in there!

Well I got treated to a lovely 8.30am lie in from DD this morning & a lovely card DS had made for me at school & written in all by himself (he's 4). We've been out for a family meal today & DD barely slept all day & is exhausted but settled well at bedtime so hoping for a decent night tonight.

moggle · 16/03/2015 08:27

Phew we all went to bed together at 8.30 last night and were asleep until 7.30 this morning apart from midnight alarm call for dreamfeed and the last steroids dose. No recurrence of the croup cough thank goodness although she does have a nasty "normal" cough which is making her cry every time, poor thing. Haven't opened the curtains yet but think it's miserable out there so we'll be staying in today and watching TV / sleeping. Hurrah!

Anna glad you had a better night - hope last night was also ok.

Sounds like most of us had a nice Mother's Day! Those that didn't have a day quite as planned, never mind, there will be many more :-D

haventgotaclue1 · 16/03/2015 10:45

Morning everyone...
I know it has been an awfully long time since I was around (15 weeks and 2 days to be precise!), but does anyone mind if I rejoin you all?
It's been an "interesting" journey since DD was born 29th Nov, but I'm hoping to be able to contribute again now Smile.....

Annarose2014 · 16/03/2015 10:49

Night nurse was great, particularly as Dad is now too confused to ring the bell. She said he was pressing the wall thinking he was pressing the bell, so just as well she was sitting in the room. He's deteriorated so much it takes 3 of us to lift him onto the commode so I'm still having to get up but it was only once now we have his night dose is sorted. DH is helping with toileting during the day, which is above and beyond for your FIL.

He's deteriorated a lot over the last 48 hrs. He'll be going some time this week, I imagine. Sad

I'm MNing a lot just to distract myself. It helps, looking at peoples problems so very much worse than ours!

The teething flare-up has died down - now the next challenge is that he's grown out of his bouncer! Shock Not that he would stay in it anyway - he needs to be sitting up at the table all the time now. We're going to have to buy a high chair already!!!

Annarose2014 · 16/03/2015 10:50

Welcome back haventgotaclue!

OK, you have to spill about this interesting journey! Grin

haventgotaclue1 · 16/03/2015 10:57

Thanks Anna! Nothing too exciting...just found this being a mummy lark MUCH harder than I ever thought possible...but we're back on the straight and narrow now (I hope!) and progress is being made...including being back here as must admit, i haven't even been "lurking" so have no idea what's been going on but am sure I'll catch up soon! (after i just change another vinegar-smelling nappy....)

Greenstone · 16/03/2015 11:03

I'm glad to hear you have an extra pair of hands now Anna. Good to have somebody outside of the family, maybe it's easier in a way to sleep when you know there's somebody there whose job it is to be on duty?
It's so hard for you all.
by the way - your DS IS doing great at night, two wake ups over 12 hours is the bees' knees for a 4 month old sleep!

Welcome back haven't. Motherhood is unbelievablely hard isn't it. Impossible to know just how hard before it happens to you! Hope you've got support.

haventgotaclue1 · 16/03/2015 11:09

Yes Greenstone and so totally different to what I was used to....DH has been fantastic and tbh, so has my Health Visitor! Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn't go back - DD has changed my life forever Grin

Strawberryfield12 · 16/03/2015 11:11

DD during the day eats every 1,5-2 hours, so I have been told that my milk might not have enough fat and she doesn't feel satisfied for too long. So I gave a go to the bottle of formula to see if it really could be that there is not enough fat in BM. In exactly the same 1,5 hours she was hungry again. She the experiment was unsuccessful and the legend of BM fat content dismissed.
DD has added couple hours of sleep in a night now and has done 6 hours stretch in last few nights, but I think it is all down to her eating like a monster recently and putting on lots of weight since last Wednesday, so she has reserves to carry on for longer.

With all that expressing misery yesterday I decided that it was time to make feel better about myself and give a go to a proper postnatal workout DVD instead of postnatal pilates which I didn't feel much benefit. This morning my wobbly sixpack is really hurting. Must have done something right there! So I have decided to bet for DD's great love of TV and hope she will enjoy watching workout DVD while I do it on weekdays and weekends she can spend with DH. Fingers crossed...
