Wondering if anyone (maybe east or happy) has any advice. Dd2 started vomiting this morning around 5.30am and hasn't really stopped since, as in every half hour or so Sad she's dozing on me at the minute. Kellymom says just give small feeds frequently and she's unlikely to become very dehydrated that way. Should we go to gp or ride it out a bit? Bit clueless as dd1 only ever had 1 very shortlived spell of vomiting.

MrsAukerman · 11/05/2015 09:35

Anything out of the ordinary happened? Solids? Sick people? Rashes?

As a non-medic I'd be worried it was symptomatic of a reaction to something, so would strip down and check for any other signs of illness such as a rash, check temperature, have a think about the last 24hrs and what you and baby have eaten (or licked!)

Greenstone · 11/05/2015 09:50

She had dinner at about 4.30pm yesterday, homemade beef and veg, which she's had before. Now, she did bring a little of it back up afterwards because she frankly gobbled too much then did some mat acrobatics so I figured normal enough (bearing in mind she has reflux too). Settled great for bed and was doing a really good night (by her standards ) til this random puking at 5.30.
No rash and apparently no temp. No diarrhea yet.

Greenstone · 11/05/2015 09:51

As for what she's licked - god knows, Dd1 is constantly shoving things at her

Greenstone · 11/05/2015 11:17

We took her to the GP in the end and just watching and waiting for now. Said to limit time on boob but it's hard, dd is suckling away here and it's the only way she'll really sleep. God this is horrible. Dd2 is really paying us back so far for.getting away so lightly with dd1!

catg83 · 11/05/2015 11:54

Good work haven't glad your plan worked

greenstone that sounds horrible. Hope baby feels better soon.

We haven't had a poo since Thursday mrsA. My DP compares it to waiting for the jump on a horror film. You don't know when it is going to come but you know it is going to be horrible!

Organised the fitting of carpet for DS' s room for Friday. We WILL get this sorted!

TwigletFiend · 11/05/2015 11:55

Oh Greenstone, how rubbish! Hopefully it's just a passing upset and she will be fine by tomorrow. As long as she's taking on fluids, even if in tiny bits at a time, she will hopefully perk up quickly. They are so amazingly resilient!

We have crawled this morning!!! Only two pushes before she fell flat on her face after forgetting to move her arms but I was Shock. I am not ready for mobile baby! Luckily I think she's still a way off confident crawling, her coordination is still not there thank goodness. But still... Eek!

Also having the solids poo arrival at the moment. Urgh. DD seems to be doing it in lots of little bursts too rather than one big poo as she was before. Undecided as to whether it's preferable or not - 5 dirty nappies over the course of the day yesterday and already 3 so far today! Grim.

TwigletFiend · 11/05/2015 11:58

I've just picked her up and realised she was chomping on a bit of hay that must have fallen off me when I got back from the yard this morning Blush

MrsAukerman · 11/05/2015 13:13

He pooed! It happened without a nappy on. Shock luckily it was on the changing table. I managed to whack an outer on for some of it but not all. Obviously it happened just as I'd hurriedly prepared some pear and plum puree and given him a couple of spoons and some paracetamol as well cos he looked uncomfortable.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 11/05/2015 13:31

Greenstone there is a tummy bug doing the rounds here lasting 48hrs and if breast feeding I would say keep offering as much as she wants and if formula feeds maybe little and often. If continues and you feel she isn't keeping anything at all down ie no wet nappies take her to doc. Hope she is better soon

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 11/05/2015 13:34

Green sorry just read your next posts to say been to gp- the advice for breast fed babies isn't to limit breast if unwell and it can actually help with tummy upsets. Most gp aren't clued up on bf they get no training around it and apply a common sense or experience approach in most cases so is really gp dependant on advice you get around bf.

Strawberryfield12 · 11/05/2015 18:02

Just wanted to thank the person (sorry, I don't remember who was it. Amazon's secret agent Anna? Grin) who recommended Funky Giraffe bibs on here. Got yesterday and they are amazing, DD already has almost got rid of the red spots on chest she had since started blowing raspberries.

For whatever reason it is very funny if I put DD's toes to her nose, she laughs her head off.

Greenstone · 11/05/2015 19:02

Thanks very much for the advice east. I've just been feeding dd whenever she cries for it (breast) so a fair bit. She is still puking but the frequency has slowed a bit though her last one was huge. Just one poo so far and while it was a bit grim it wasn't terrible. She doesn't really seem dehydrated, just miserable. No idea how the night will go! We've gone through so many muslins and cloths today we're screwed if dd1 starts too. Hope all the other babies are in rude good health!

Greenstone · 11/05/2015 19:04

cat I love your DP 's horror film analogy. Bit like that around here!

catg83 · 11/05/2015 20:18

strawberry that was me Grin I think they are brilliant. I went for loads of wacky patterns and colours that go with nothing but DS looks very funky.

He pooed and boy did he poo. Covered ankles to nipples. Stuck him under the shower and wiped down with an old towel. The baby wipes weren't cutting it.

happypotamus · 11/05/2015 20:25

greenstone sorry I didn't read your post this morning. As eastmids said it is recommended to keep breastfeeding on demand. Breast milk is absorbed so quickly that some should still get absorbed even if she is still vomiting. Keep an eye for signs of dehydration: Lethargy, sunken fontanelle, no wet nappies, no tears when crying, sunken eyes etc. I know this know, but when DD1 was about 8 months she vomited 15 times in 2hrs and we took her to A&E where the Dr said not to breastfeed her at all for a day and just give her dioralyte! Doctors often don't know much about breastfeeding. I really hope your DD is better soon.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 12/05/2015 05:21

Glad she seems to be improving green hope she is much better today.

We are back on 2 wakes a night well two feeds anyway other wakings happen but I leave him to settle self if he doesn't settle then that's when I feed.

Strawberryfield12 · 12/05/2015 07:24

Oh yes, cat they are brilliant! I got a set of 10 from Amazon, at the price they are such a good value and actually work. DD's dribble rush is definitely going. Shame they didn't have a single girls set without pink bibs, but still great. I like to dress DD without pink and it really tests people on prejudices. So often I get asked "how old is HE?" even when she has dress on.

Arkkorox · 12/05/2015 08:38

They're fab aren't they strawberry I love DDs ones. I can't remember who I reccomended them to but they love them as well. Nothing else seems to absorb dribble and keep dry underneath they all let it go through.

Off to a baby language and communication taster today, we've not been to many classes or anything so looking forward to meeting some more babies

strawberry yy. DS regularly gets called a girl if he isn't wearing blue. Not my fault he looks fabulous in purple and green. Is kind of our fault for giving him a name which is traditionally a girls' name. Grin

Annarose2014 · 12/05/2015 11:02

God I hate the gender bullshit with babies clothes. Trying to find anything for DS that isn't denim or has dinosaurs or tractors is impossible. The only permissable colours are blue, grey and green. I just want my child to look colourful! I want him to wear things like purple cardigans! Apparently thats not allowed for boys.

And you can't even sneakily use girls clothes as god forbid an item of girls clothes is without frills or bows or butterflies.

I think I'm going to try to knit a pullover. Might be easier if theres no sleeves, and I can use really funky wool. I just have to find an easy pattern!

Annarose2014 · 12/05/2015 11:09

Greenstone I hope things are better today. Huge hugs.

Greenstone · 12/05/2015 11:41

Better today. She slept on me /beside me for most of the night and managed to hold down her milk until 5.30 when she did another vom. Nothing since then and she's asleep at the minute. Fingers crossed. Probably safest to just stick with boob milk only for another day I'm guessing?

I love the way my friends dress their little boy - he is 2 but has been so cool since birth, loads of green, purple, red. I think he wears lots of H &M and baby tights and stuff.

Strawberryfield12 · 12/05/2015 13:10

greenstone good to hear she is better now, fingers crossed it goes away soon completely!

anna it's definitely the best time to try knit something for him now, while is small. Smaller size, more manageable and you will see result sooner and if it does not work out, it will not be a case that you have spent a bucket of money buying kilo of yarn which will never get used. Have a look at Ravelry website, loads of free patterns with pictures and good instructions and if I am not wrong you can also filter them by difficulty.

Because of that gender rubbish I like to buy baby clothing online, most websites offer to filter by colour, so I can skip "peppa the pig" stuff. While going to the shop means I get annoyed by all the electro pink paraphelia and never buy anything.

ladydolly · 12/05/2015 13:33

I had to come on the laptop - I was itching for baby photos! They're so cute!!

I'm so on board with the gender/colour issues, I hate pastels and pinks and I'm always being asked what 'his' name is. We did get a bright pink car seat but that's because it was half price vs the lovely green one.

Most of her clothes have come from my sister and she has very girly taste, lots of floral and frills. I also got lots from her from my nephew so lots of primary colours, dp gets annoyed that I make her look like a boy. Unfortunately (or fortunately for when she's older) she's got quite 'full' eyebrows so she does look like a boy.. but she'll give Cara Delevine a run for her money when she's older!

Here's a photo of her mocking me at lunch, she kept her mouth firmly shut and just laughed evilly cheekily. She then threw the entire bowl on the floor. Cue more laughter.
