Also, anyone else taking advantage of dp's watching the boxing? 5am start? You'll be ok taking the baby at 6am then!! whoop whoop!

(totally sexist post, apologies to lady boxing fans)

I had a lie-in today. For the first time ever DH took the girls down and gave them breakfast. He also looked after them while I got to have a shower and wash my hair in peace.

I have put DD to bed on her side with a rolled up blanket behind her to see if that that helps. Last night she coughed and coughed every time I lay her down so ended up in my bed on her side. So I am trying on her side in her bed for a change. Probably won't make a difference but worth a try.

Thanks for all your support with my christening angst. I think it is too late now to change it, especially as the priest is very booked up, she won't fit in the christening dress which my mum made for my christening (I am in denial about the possibility she already won't) and my mum would go mad. My mum will help with food because she has experience of catering a lot of people anyway, and she might have DD1 the night before to free up space in my house and give e one less person to organise. DH has decided he needs to paint the landing and stairs before we have people round. This has needed doing since we moved into the house nearly 5 years ago but has suddenly become a priority.

Re weaning: I didn't bother with baby rice. We started with vegetables, then fruit, bread which she pinched off me. I got our long-sleeved bibs from aldi baby event a while ago and my mum bought one from Sainsburys I think.

happypotamus · 02/05/2015 21:11

I love the Idea of hiring a cleaner for Friday. I might actually look into how feasible that is (and how expensive)

Annarose2014 · 02/05/2015 21:21

Strawberry not a clue how long it'll take but for 1.50 I don't care!

Kicking myself I missed the Aldi ones, as I have an Aldi around the corner. Sad

Strawberryfield12 · 03/05/2015 08:14

ladydolly on Amazon most of the seeds are coming from abroad, mainly China. At least anything unusual and interesting, they send them in regular envelopes. Suppose seeds is nothing compared to all the stuff what can be bought online.

Our bad night has resulted in a more stable seating, she is now playing sit up slightly leaning with her back on something/somebody and managed to sit about half a minute unaided. But most of all I am over the moon she is sleeping in hotels standalone travel cot without any problems. I think it's time to move her into a cotbed and as soon as she sleeps through she can go to her own room. Last two night we have been back to two night wake ups for feed. Life's good... Tomorrow it's 5 months since I haven't had a single night of uninterrupted sleep. Thank you Darling!

catg83 · 03/05/2015 21:22

DS has refused naps all day. We ended up with 2 of 20 mins. He went down with a fight about an hour ago and just woke himself up coughing. He is now full of snot and little hot cheeks. We have given him 2.5mls calpol (most of it went in) and DP is trying to rock him back to sleep. Can hear the lullabies on the monitor. Have a feeling we are in for a rough night. Good luck to the rest of you.

happypotamus · 03/05/2015 23:04

DD has also barely napped. She had less than a hour this afternoon in the pram. She did try to nap earlier but DD1 would come along and rub her face or poke her while saying 'ahh, she's asleep, isn't she cute?' Or something, waking her up.
This evening though DD1 told DD2 a secret. She whispered it in her ear so I wouldn't hear. That was quite cute.

Annarose2014 · 03/05/2015 23:22

We had an Good day - DS was adorable, and we went all over town with him in the borrowed Ergo and he was deeply contented as he always is in it. Looking left and right with massive interest and smiling at every shop assistant. We actually ordered our own one as its such a success. We're both total converts.

We also ordered my belated 40th birthday present (cos my bday was when Dad was dying so it was a non-event). DH insisted on buying me an eternity ring! Blush I'm ashamed at how excited I am - surely I shouldn't care about such frivilous things? Surely I should be sensible and insist he use the money for something practical for the house, like carpet?!

BUT OMG I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT COS ITS SO SPARKLY AND SHINY OMFGAAAARRRRRGH!!!

Thisisimpossible · 04/05/2015 03:46

Stuff the carpet!! Lucky you!

DS is asleep (hooray!). Why am I awake??

Happy, hugs to you. It all sounds very stressful. I hope your PIL is ok x

MrsAukerman · 04/05/2015 07:14

Belated happy birthday to catg
happy I hope you get the christening sorted Ok and it's very cute your 2 DDs like that.

Another one with nap problems yesterday but it was inevitable really as dh was home and we were both busy with diy jobs so he spent most of the day in the baby jail play pen.
Most of the diy is done now and the hifi is baby proof thank goodness so a relaxing bank holiday on the cards. Hope you all get a bit of a break and some family time.

happypotamus · 04/05/2015 08:43

Yep, terrible sleep. I don't think she slept for 2hrs in a row at any point. On a good night I get a stretch of 4hrs+ if I let her sleep next to me. DH thinks I should take her to the dr to see if she has reflux and if she would sleep better if it was treated. She does intermittently have reflux, and we have got to the point of almost booking a GP appointment before but then she gets better.

Strawberryfield12 · 04/05/2015 08:54

Haha Anna I am sure you don't want carpet for your birthday. I can definitely picture you saying: "carpet my arse!". :)

ladydolly · 04/05/2015 10:52

Worth seeing the doc I reckon happy? and failing that maybe try a cranial osteopath? They can help with digestive problems too if its lower down?

dd has started getting really difficult to settle. She screamed for a good half an hour putting her to bed last night, I couldn't find a reason for it other than her teeth? She was then up for 2 hours at 1am and again at 5am, not screaming but not sleeping either. Gave her to dp at 7.30 only to be rewoken by her at 8.30 because the outfit I gave him for her 'had too many arms' (she hates having her arma dressed)... it was a vest, t shirt and cardigan.

Headed to the gym for relaxing swim, utter chaos. Pools was an angry soup of hungover hen dos, excited children, slow pensioners and people trying to ignore them all to do lengths (me).

moggle · 04/05/2015 20:40

Argh DD is growing out of all her 3-6m clothes (after only starting to fit them at last 4m)- she jumped from 35th to 52nd centile in the past 6 weeks. All the 6-9m stuff is proper summer stuff so think I need to go buy her some leggings and long sleeved tops and vests to get us through the next month. Shopping, shame!

So our trip to Marrakech was a big success. DD was amazing- no problems with the flights or the ridiculous 39C heat. Took it all in her stride. Also it was so nice being in a country where people are actually happy to see babies / little kids, and don't frown at you if you ask if it's ok to bring a pushchair into a restaurant. DD was ridiculously spoiled for attention from everyone she met. We went for a wedding and really enjoyed ourselves- the bride and groom had arranged a babysitter at the reception we could use (but didn't have to)- DD went to sleep at 8pm until 3am so we got a properly nice long evening together with our friends and even got to party with her from 3-4am(it was a very late one!) best of all, once we got back to the hotel and all fell asleep at 5, she didn't wake til 9.30 so we only felt slightly dead the next day, not completely zombified.

DH is already trying to plan the next foreign holiday but I have pointed out it will be a different kettle of fish when she's crawling or toddling....

Teething... How long are your babies takig from starting to show signs of it to actually producing any teeth?!

Arkkorox · 05/05/2015 06:49

Moggle your trip sounds fab! Bit jealous!

Dd is growing up too fast. The last two nights I've put her down awake and she's settled herself to sleep! And she did 8 hours straight last night after a month of 3-4am feeds and getting up at 6! She had a bottle at 5:45 and is sound asleep again!

OP posts:
moggle · 05/05/2015 08:26

Ark sounds similar to us- DD was terrible at night from 4-5 months but in the last few weeks is so much better. we can put her down awake with her dummy at about 7.30 and she's asleep usually in minutes. And since she started sleeping on her front the dummy hardly falls out so that isn't causing as many problems overnight as i'd anticipated.

Sorry sleep is rubbish still for most of the rest on this thread. And sorry I can suggest anything magic we've done to cause the change :-(

MrsAukerman · 05/05/2015 10:21

We had an okay night after an action-packed bhw. He's 23+1 I think but was 2 weeks late so yesterday I handed him some banana while out and it went in so as of this morning I'm starting blw for at least breakfast and lunch. He had some banana and fistfuls of porridge this morning and last night he had fingers of sweet potato and normal potato while I cooked dinner.
Lessons learnt this morning already are to put the bib on before you start not halfway through, to clean up before it all conceals and to not assume any wet patches are dribbled water from Tommee tippee cup as they could still be a leaky nappy!

MrsAukerman · 05/05/2015 10:22

Congeals not conceals!

ladydolly · 05/05/2015 10:33

After great success with baby rice and sweet potato over the weekend dd wanted nothing to do with either this morning, or pear, or water. Just not hungry maybe? She's then been massively stroppy this whole journey to London. Had to trick her into breast feeding by singing to distract her and slipping it in.

Where are these effing teeth?? I'm sure that's what's bothering her.

TwigletFiend · 05/05/2015 11:17

Hi all, trying to catch up with everyone!

Moggle, no teeth here yet though all symptoms of teething for nearly a month now. I am a convert to Funky Giraffe bandana bibs, they soak up loads of drool without getting clothes wet! Your trip sounds fab, glad it was a raging success.

Lady, sympathy for you, going through the same here. Praying it's just a phase.

Anna, definitely go for the sparkly option over carpet haha. Frankly, it would be madness not to!!

Happy, worth trying GP maybe? You never know. Are you trying solids at all yet? Sorry, am on my phone so scanning back through is hard work! If it is reflux, I think solids are meant to help? So fingers crossed it will settle down soon!

We have had five consecutive nights of terrible sleep now. I am at that level of tiredness where you don't feel sleepy, just no energy at all. DD will sleep next to me no problem but as soon as I put her down in her cot she howls like a demon. Unfortunately, she is waking five or six times a night even in bed with me and I only doze lightly even when she's asleep. Really hoping it is just a phase that will pass soon, I'm shattered! Tried giving her Calpol a couple of nights ago as she has had a bit of a cold and wondered if it was pain related but no change. Wondering if its teeth making her want to comfort suck. Wah!

Annarose2014 · 05/05/2015 12:06

According to the Wonder Weeks app I am 2 days till the end of the longest leap ever! And thankfully the last couple of nights have gone back to our old routine - feed at 11.30, then brief feed at 4amish.

We've pushed his bedtime to 7pm by having a nap at 4.30pm, and now he wakes for the morning at 6.45/7am. Touch wood it lasts now. God this growth spurt was grim.

moggle your trip sounds amazing. And so brave! Delighted it worked out.

No sign of teeth yet though he's been teething since 4 months. Hmm

We are stepping up the texture of foods now as he's ready. We're giving him porridge thats smooth but definately not pureed. Normal porridge, not baby porridge.

Strawberryfield12 · 05/05/2015 13:03

DD has been all extremes this bhw, from VERY active and bouncy to suddenly very tired and moaning and struggling to fall asleep even in sling. I think its the leap/spurt as can definitely see that she has grown while we have been away from home. She was not so very tired even on Easter weekend when we went away on holidays for the first time. Hope this goes away with the end of the leap or my summer travel plans will be compromised.
Moggle you are giving a hope to the rest of us! And yeah, very brave! I love Morocco and have been backpacking there in some places, but would be cautious going back with DD right now. I guess having friends there helps, but still!

Arkkorox · 05/05/2015 16:41

Thinking of putting DD in her own room tonight as well as in her cot. We keep waking her up when we come to bed. Bad idea? Shall I do Moses basket in the cot first? Arghh!

OP posts:
moggle · 05/05/2015 17:08

Ark we just put her straight in the cot but she'd been in a travelcot in our room on holiday in the week leading up to it. Also she'd been having her naps in the cot for a month or so already.

catg83 · 05/05/2015 18:29

Hi all. Very snotty DS here and I feel like I am coming down with it now. Rubbish.

We went to a sling library to return the mei tai (DP said it dug in round his tummy and felt straps were fiddly). We now have a beko gemini and a boba 4G to try for the next 2 weeks.
